        The cut was not initially reported to the doctor at post bout evaluation when the doctor inquired if he has any pain or injury in his feet or other parts of his body.
        During the 5th bout, the fighters corner/trainer returned ringside to report the incident and stated that the cut occurred during the fight due to a kick to his opponent's mouth.

Well done to Promoters Leon Parsons from Wolfpack & Martin Ward from Na Fianna, two rival clubs in Athlone that joined forces to co-promote this great event and showing first hand that co-operation is the way forward. Both men put a lot into these championships and both provided a boxing ring each and two matted areas for the younger ones. Their crews worked hard together setting up the whole event. Huge praise must go to Leons lovely wife and better half Eva for her great organizational skills and ability to remain calm under pressure.

Huge thanks to all the clubs from all over Ireland that came along to support the championships and make them a true Nationals and a huge thanks to all the Officials that worked hard all day to make it such a success for our fantastic young talent which is the future of Kickboxing in this country. It was particularly nice to see all the officials in Official IKF Uniform and a lot of newly qualified officials got fantastic experience in the field.

IKF Ireland held an IKF Officials seminar back in August and almost 80 new officials were certified as Referees, Judges and Timekeepers.

IKF Ireland keeping it real. If you weren't there, you certainly missed out. The championships will be in Galway next year so get your fighters ready. Most of the divisions were stacked and titles were hard earned.

    NEW IKF Amateur Lightweight World Champion
    • Due to the defending champion Paul Huish, from Galway Black Dragon Gym failing to make weight at the advance 24 hour weigh-in for the "Clash In The Clayton 6" promotion on Sunday 24 September, IKF Ireland stripped him of his IKF Amateur Unified Rules Lightweight World Title and the mandatory challenger Edward Smith, from Star Kickboxing in the UK, was handed the belt after stepping on the scales at 60kg even.

      Smith of course came to fight and was very disappointed to win the title in this fashion and within hours, an offer came in from a promoter in the UK to re-schedule the fight for February 2017. A stipulation however is that Huish's weight must be monitored on a weekly basis and if by the first week of January, he's any more than two kilos over the limit, the fight will go to the next challenger. This is down to health & safety reasons as he had to be brought to the hospital for rehydration due to leaving it too late to cut weight. Kudos to Edward Smith and his camp for agreeing to this as they must have been gutted that the fight didn't go ahead after preparing for do long.
