Johnny Davis' AK Promotions
Next Event Announced....

Friday, June 29th, 2012, Doubletree Hotel, Sacramento, CA, Doors 6:PM - Fights 7:PM

Coming up Friday night, June 29th, 2012, Johnny Davis' AK Promotions will host yet another IKF World Championship Promotion. The event will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento, California. The show is set up in a Las Vegas fight night environment and along with the great Muay Thai Kickboxing action, the night will also offer great drinks, food and music.

The main event of the evening will be the always exciting
IKF
Amateur Full Muay Thai Rules
Light Middleweight World Champion

Ed Abasolo
(Left, Vallejo, California, 9-0, 5'10", Trey Howard)

His challenger will be Top Contender

Aleksandar Naumoski
(Right, San Jose, California, 9-4, 5'9", Derek Yuen )

This matchup will be one of the best fights of the year! Many are aware that Abasolo is extremely talented.... However, so is his challenger! Naumaski who sports a mohawk, is a serious, take no prisoners type of fighter and is not only coming for revenge, but to set the record straight as to who is the best Light Middleweight Muay Thai Fighter in the World!

At last Novembers IKF West Coast Classic Tournament, in Sacramento, Abasolo defeated Naumaski by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 & 28-29. Some at ringside saw it closer, while others even thought Naumaski should have won. Regardless, BOTH will be coming to set the record straight this Friday night and only one will walk away with the IKF Gold around their waist!

AK Promotions has also been trying to match up IKF Women's West Coast Classic Tournament Champion Cat Feeley of San Francisco for another shot at IKF Gold but no challenger has stepped forward as of press time.

However, Sacramento's own bantamweight rising star, Aber Bouttavong (West Sacramento, California USA, 3-0, 122, 5'6", 10-26-92, Andy K) is confirmed for his shot at IKF Gold when he steps in the ring against eager and tough Anthony Aurellio (Concord, California, USA 3-2, 122, 5'6", 6-2-87, Trey Howard ). Bouttavong and Aurellio will be fighting for the vacant IKF Amateur Muay Thai Rules California Featherweight title.

Look for additional bouts and possibly another title to be announced on the IKF News page here soon!
As for now, here is the current fight card:

Friday, June 29th, mark your calendar and plan to be at the Doubletree Hotel's Grand Ballroom in Sacramento, CA early to get the best seats! Why? Because you will be one to witness what could be one of the most heated battles in IKF Full Rule Muay Thai Kickboxing in years between two very talented and determined fighters! These two young men will be displaying the best of LIVE Muay Thai Kickboxing in front of what is expected to be a full house of fight fans!

Yes, we are talking about the world title defense of the always exciting and highly skilled and undefeated Ed Abasolo of Vallejo, California, USA. (9-0) Abasolo is a standout in any arena. Charismatic, sharp looking with a swagger, Abasolo is the man to beat and knows it! Not only is he a very nice person but carries himself well and loves his family as he and his wife's affection for each other is often displayed on their Facebook pages about their close relationship and their love for their fairly newborn child. Abasolo who won his IKF Light Middleweight World title back in January of this year with an excellent display of technique and in the end knockout out power to finish Damien Earley (12-1-5) of Arizona in the final round of the action - packed fight!

He did so just as it seemed that Earley was getting stronger but instead, it was Abasolo that dug deeper to show why he deserves to be a world champion. The crowd, mostly part of Abasolo's huge following that he has built in route to achieving his world championship status went absolutely wild with exuberance as you can expect they will again be in abundance for his upcoming bout!

This past November, 2011 was one of Abasolo's strongest tests, and a taste of what's to come this Friday night came at the 2011 IKF West Coast Classic Tournament (held at the former Radisson Hotel but is now called the Woodlake Hotel 500 Leisure Lane) in Sacramento, CA. This event had 185 registered fighters with some full eight men brackets in an elimination where the best becomes champion and would be a major test for any true Kickboxer. When Abasolo's day was done at the end of the tournament he was crowned the champion of his division bracket that had some of the most talented fighters in the tournament. It was from this event that Abasolo proved that he deserved the world title opportunity a few months later against Damien Earley.

Abasolo's toughest fight at the West Coast Classic was his Championship bout... Meeting him across the ring was yet another man who wanted it as badly as Abasolo and in the end of their toe-to-toe battle, many were confused about the decision and some were flat out disappointed that Aleksandar Naumoski of San Jose, CA, (Abasolo's challenger for his World title this Friday night) was not the winner. (Left Abasolo lands elbow Strike)

Before Abasolo and Naumoski met in the Championship bout, Abasolo had already defeated undefeated Jordan Decker of Mesa, Arizona, USA, (Now 5-1) by TKO at 1:25 of round 1. Naumoski also made quick work of his opponent in defeating Kevin Bee of Costa Mesa, California, USA by TKO at 1:35 of round 1.

When Abasolo and Naumoski met up on Sunday, both were well rested and ready for battle! In the opening round it was clear that Naumoski had Abasolo's number and did not give in to the flashy and cagey moves that Abasolo normally displays in his exciting fights. Instead, Naumoski stood in front of Abasolo, occasionally pinning him on the ropes and bombarding him with rapid elbow strikes...some landing and some missing the elusive Abasolo who will sometimes drop his hands and challenge his opponents to hit him as he plans his counter attack! Their match was exciting to watch and one of the best fights in the tournament!

Immediately following this epic fight, talks of a rematch was in the air. In the end, Abasolo held his own and with a calm coolness and techniques executed beyond his years, he won over the judges by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 & 28-29. However Naumoski and others felt they had won the match and this is why his team is anticipating this rematch with every ounce of their being...and the fact that it's for Abasolo's newly won IKF World Title just adds more fuel to the fire and Naumoski is looking for full redemption. If Naumoski were to pull off an upset victory, we are pretty sure there will be a trilogy to ultimately prove who is the best between these two West Coast talents and who will move on to bigger things to come.

Finally, Naumoski's trainer, former multi time kickboxing champion Derek Yuen of San Jose, CA says his fighter is biting at the bits to take full advantage of this opportunity and is confident that his guy can take out Abasolo. Abasolo is talented! Naumoski is skilled, tough and very determined! He will be a very dangerous opponent and some feel that Abasolo's title and undefeated record may be in jeopardy. Some have even brought an age old saying, "It's easier to go after a title than to defend it..." Something former IKF World Champion Jon Pryor discovered last year when he lost his first World title defense on October 8th, 2011 in Oakland, California, USA to Skylr Pena by unanimous decision, 48-47, 49-46 & 49-46.

Those fortunate enough to get to Sacramento on June 29th, will witness a candidate for fight of the year in this main event of the evening...no joke!....Don't take a chance...get your tickets now and you will see an exhibit of full rule action every minute of their scheduled 5 rounds! Tickets www.AKPromotions.org!

Interview with Ed Abasolo on Phillipine TV

Anthony Aurellio
Concord, California, USA

3-2, 122, 5'6", 6-2-87, Trey Howard

Aber Bouttavong
West Sacramento, California USA

3-0, 122, 5'6", 10-26-92, Andy K

In the semi main event, Aber Bouttavong (Left) of Sacramento, CA who trains with former fighter Andy Khensamphaph (Andy K) head trainer and owner of Muay Thai Lao will be taking on Anthony Aurellio of Vallejo, CA. Aurellio, like Abasolo is trained by Kru Trey Howard also of Vallejo. Aurellio may be talented and coming to do damage to Bouttavong but those who have witnessed Bouttavong in the ring...well, it's like another day at the office. Never will you witness a young fighter as this with such calm and calculated skill that keeps you at the edge of your seat as you wonder what will he do next? Bouttavong, is not a one dimensional fighter as he seems to be more versatile than the traditional Muay Thai fighter.

In any case, the undefeated Bouttavong brings a complete arsenal of techniques and the confident Aurellio will need to be ready for anything on this night if he is to claim the prize of the IKF California Featherweight Championship that's on the line. Aurellio is coming in Bouttavong's back yard and will have yet another disadvantage as Bouttavong's league of followers has been growing at a rapid pace. Aurellio, will not be alone, though being apart of the Warriors Gym which has teams in Sacramento and Vallejo, CA and will have his as well as Abasolo's fans cheering him to what they hope will be a victorious night! This match-up will be a good one too and one that fans will be talking about months later!

Results From Johnny Davis' AK Promotions'
"IKF Muay Thai / KICKBOXING"
June 29th, 2012 - Sacramento, California, USA

June 29th, 2012 marked Johnny Davis' (Right) - AK Promotions' "37th" Amateur Kickboxing event... "37". However, it's the last 17-18 events he will be most remembered for! As with the previous 17 events, this one was no less filled with lights, cameras and plenty of exciting Muay Thai Kickboxing ACTION! A good size crowd saw 11 exciting bouts at the Doubletree Hotel Ballroom in Sacramento. Three of which were IKF title bouts. One of course was the one many had been wanting to see since the end of the 2011 IKF West Coast Classic (WCC). A Rematch of the WCC Championship bout between WCC Champion and current IKF World Champion Ed Abasolo and challenger Aleksandar Naumoski as the Main event of the night for Abasolo's first defense of his IKF Light Middleweight World Title. Abasolo won the title on January 15th, 2012 in Sacramento, California, USA when he defeated Damien Earl of Phoenix, Arizona, USA, (12-2/5) by TKO at 1:04 of round 5.

This is one of those times when two challengers meet who are from the same state, but BOTH, TRULY deserving of the World title shot. Unlike other promotions or so called "Sanctioned" title fights, this bout was justified by the ONLY Amateur Muay Thai Kickboxing rankings in the world, the IKF World Amateur Rankings. Abasolo and Naumoski are ranked in the IKF Amateur Men's Muay Thai Rules World Rankings. There were two fighters ranked ahead of Naumoski, 2011 IKF World Classic Champion Nathan Key (Actually, 4 Time WC Champion) of Augusta, Georgia, USA (29-2/15) and IKF Intercontinental Champion Peter Arbeau of Calgary, Alberta, Canada (29-9-1/5). Davis and the IKF went through the official process of determining Abasolo's challenger. Key was contacted first, but he was already scheduled to challenge for yet "Another" IKF World Classic Title on July 20, 21 & 22 in Orlando Florida so he couldn't take the bout and opted in hopes of fighting the eventual winner later down the line. Arbeau, like several of trainer Mike Miles' champion Fighters was booked for several top bouts through the summer so he couldn't take the fight at this time either.

Surprisingly the unavailability of the number 1 and 2 contenders brought Aleksandar Naumoski into the picture and his hopes of a rematch of his loss to Abasolo at the 2011 IKF West Coast Classic (WCC). were now in sight! To a lot of California Fight Fans, this was a dream match many thought they would never see. "MANY" choose not to attend the WCC so only those die hard fight fans saw their match-up there which was one of the most exciting bouts of the tournament... Now to the action...

As we have already said, this was the first defense for current IKF World Champion Ed Abasolo of Benicia, California, USA (*9-0/3, 158.6, 5'10", 10-25-86, Trey Howard) IKF Amateur World "FULL" Muay Thai Rules Light Middleweight World Title against Aleksandar Naumoski of San Jose, California, USA (*9-5/1, 159, 5'9", 4-2-80, Derek Yuen) for a scheduled 5 rounds.

This would be Naumaski's second shot at an IKF World title. His first was against Jon Pryor of Sacramento, California, USA on April 30th, 2011 in Lincoln, California, USA. In that bout Pryor defeated Naumaski by unanimous decision, 48-47 on all 3 judges cards to win the vacant IKF Amateur Modified Muay Thai Rules Super Welterweight World title. (Photo)
(*) Records BEFORE this bout.

In Round 1 both fighters showed respect for each other as they established what their overall strategy would be for the next 4 rounds. Although uneventful this seemed like a round that the judges would give to Champion Abasolo... Or at least we thought they would do so...

Round 2 had them both pick up the pace. However, what we didn't see was a relaxed and free flowing Abasolo that we had seen in every bout of his prior to this one. It was as though he felt he had everything to lose and nothing to gain. Siding on the side of caution rather than his usual aggressive and explosive attack style we say last year when these two met at the WCC. In fact, it wouldn't be off at all to say that their fight at the WCC started and even ended more explosive than tonights bout. Sorry, but we just had to say it... This was a bout where Naumoski was HUNGRY for revenge and Abasolo on the other hand was in more of a passive protective defense. we said it in the article leading up to this bout and we will say it again... "Sometimes It's easier to go after a title than to defend it..." A feeling a lot of Champions tend to have after winning a "WORLD" title. Having reached the top of the mountain while eager, hungry and even a little wild throwing caution to the wind, in their first defense, we too often see one of two reactions... One, a feeling of "I've done it, no need to do it again?" which we are sure was NOT Abasolo's feeling. or two, a feeling of "Now that I'm the Champion, I have to be careful, not to make a mistake here and lose the title." This is where we thought Abasolo was. He had seemed to lose his "Wild hunger". The same style of fighting that helped him pack the house with Abasolo fight fans on this night and many before. Heck, like most Champion fighters, Abasolo most likely wasn't even aware he was fighting like this until after he saw the fight himself...

As round two came to an end, Naumoski caught Abasolo with a "SHOT" of a right hand that landed EXACTLY at the bell. The shot CLEARLY rocked Abasolo, something we had never seen before. Legs wobbly, he made it back to his corner, but it was clear to everyone that if there was ever a definition of being "Saved by the Bell", this was indeed one of them.

Round 3 started with Naumoski acting like a hungry wolf that smelled blood. He knew he had Abasolo hurt and he went after him. He landed yet more and more solid right hands and Abasolo continued to look anything but the relaxed and smooth fireball we all knew him as. All three judges gave round 3 to Naumoski.

*Round 4 Both were clearly winded from nearly being beat to the canvas by each other up to this point. This round would surly be a survival of the fittest. It was also the most questioned round. Many we talked to at ringside and fight fans had it very close as round 4 started. Naumoski looked more tired than Abasolo in this round but he also seemed to be the more aggressive or at least seemed to be. Simply put, round 4 was close, but because Abasolo fought so much on the ropes, it most likely swayed the judges towards Naumoski.

*Round 5 was where neither wanted to be. The 5th and final round of what now turned out to be a war between two Gladiators who were NOT going to give in! In round 5 though we saw a change in Abasolo. It was as though he was revived by his trainer in the corner and informed, he needed to step it up if he was going to win this fight. Although Naumoski was still firing, he now looked a little winded as it was Abasolo's turn to fire back some bug shots. This round was probably the most exciting round as each one had impressive moments of glory! Towards the later part of the round, Abasolo was landing uppercut after uppercut followed with some combinations. However it was the long uppercuts that were doing the damage on Naumoski. As round 4 was coming to an end many thought Naumoski could go down as Abasolo continued to land shot after shot. Like Abasolo found in round 2, the bell here truly saved Naumoski in this round.

(*) 7-9-12: We apologize that we had these two rounds (4 & 5) mixed up. The round action is correct now.

As the final bell rang, both warriors gave their respects while the crowd stood to their feet and praised them both for a GREAT FIGHT! One that was looking like it was going to be less exciting than their match in November, turned out to be a little more in different ways.

As the scores were read, all 3 judges had it 49-47 for Naumoski (which meant they must have had at least 1, 10-10 round in there). Aleksandar Naumoski of San Jose, California was crowned the New IKF World Champion on this night in a war among two Gladiators that are also two CLASS ACTS! The IKF has been proud to have BOTH as IKF WORLD CHAMPIONS!

Naumoski's win makes their meetings tied 1-1. Of course everyone now was wondering when the Rubber match"" will be? Well, a third meeting might not be as simple as one may think, which we will talk about in the article following all the nights results below...

Here are the results of all the remaining bouts below as detailed by our friends at QuestionableStoppage.com fight sport website.

  1. IKF AMATEUR KICKBOXING: 127.1 - 132
    Adam Smith, (Chico, California, USA, 1-2, AMMA: 1-1, 131.4, 5'7", 5-13-84, Eddie Cole, (530) 354-0361)

QS Report: First fight of the night had Adam Smith taking on Sebastian Dezon at the 132 pound limit. Smith spent the entire fight moving forward, he pressed the action and controlled the pace of the fight. Dezon preferred to stay evasive, pick his shots, both punches and high kicks. Dezon made Smith a lot, but Smith's relentless attack and dogged pursuit was rewarded on the scorecards, with Smith claiming the win with scores of 29-28 on all three cards.

  2. IKF AMATEUR KICKBOXING: 142.1 - 147
    Carlos Galvan, (Concord, California, USA, 3-0/0, 146.2, 5'10", 6-22-90, Angel Fortes & Caley Scott, (925) 586-4744)

QS Report: Next up we had a fight at 147 pounds as Carlos Galvan took on Raymond Cabanos. Galvan run his record up to 3-0 as he consistently picked Cabanos apart with high kicks and punch combos. Cabanos had little in reply and seemed to spend most of the fight back on his heals. Galvan takes the decision, 30-27 on all cards.

  3. IKF "JUNIOR" AMATEUR KICKBOXING: 70 - 75
    Jordan Spears, (Sacramento, California, USA, 1-0, 71.8, 4'6", 10-7-02, Paul Matsumoto, (415) 516-8588)

QS Report: The Juniors got into the action next and Jordan Spears, 4'6" of fighting fury was able to edge out Sammy Sosa in a split decision, 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28.

  4. IKF AMATEUR KICKBOXING: 132.1 - 137
    Benjie Bernardino, (Hayward, California, USA, 3-2/1, 135.2, 5'7", 7-30-86, Evan Esegura, (415) 740-7841)
defeated Dai Nguyen, (Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, 1-3/0, 135, 5'7", 5-25-84, Airr Phanthip, (702) 372-8088) by TKO at 1:32 of round 2.
QS Report: Dai Nguyen of Las Vegas, NV took on Benjie Bernardino of Hayward. Bernardino proved to be the faster fighter, beating Nguyen to the punch and forcing the stoppage. Bernardino wins by TKO 1:32 of the second round.

  5. IKF AMATEUR KICKBOXING: 159.1 - 165
    Harley Maldonaldo, (Fresno, California, USA, 4-1, 161.2, 6'2", 7-9-93, James Contreas, (559) 346-7371)
    defeated Timothy Kamal, (San Jose, California, USA, 2-3, 163.8, 5'8", 6-3-88, Eddie Cole, (530) 354-0361) by unanimous decision, 29-28, 29-28 & 30-26.
QS Report: Timothy Kamal took on Harley Maldonaldo at the 165 lbs class. Maldonaldo won this one throwing a variety of snappy kicks and landing hooks to the head of Kamal. Kamal would charge in, bull-who-sees-red style, but would never do more than hug and clench one he got there. Maldonaldo wins by scores of 29-28, 29-28 and 30-26.

    VS

  6. IKF "JUNIOR" AMATEUR MODIFIED MUAY THAI RULES
    CALIFORNIA JUNIOR CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE: 90-95

    *Juan Barajas, (Sacramento, California, USA, 2-0, (S: 24-4) 92.6, 5', 6-17-99, Jeff Baca, (916) 320-6322)
defeated Jason Raceles (Sacramento, California, USA, 3-1 (S: 15-4) 94.6, 5'3", 4-9-99, Paul Matsumoto, (415) 516-8588) by unanimous decision, 29-28 on all 3 judges cards.
QS Report: The Junior Cruiser-weight Title (that's 95 pounds) was up for grabs as Jason Raceles took on Juan Barajas in the kind of wild brawl one would expect from a pair of 13 year olds. After three round of under-sized action, Juan Barajas takes all three cards, 29-28, and a shiny new belt, one of many I'm sure he'll get before he's done.

QS Report: The second title up for grabs Friday night was the IKF California Featherweight Belt, with Anthony Aurellio battling Aber Bouttavong for the honor. A contrast of style between to sound fighters Aurellio was light on his feet, staying mobile and looking to evade attacks, while Bouttavong was less mobile, almost still, blocking or simply shrugging off attacks before exploding into combos of his own. Bouttavong was able to put together the more convincing offense and claimed the majority decision and the belt, with scores of 48-46, 48-46, and 47-47.

IKF AMATEUR FULL MUAY THAI RULES
LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE **DEFENSE: 153.1 - 159

  11. IKF IKF AMATEUR FULL MUAY THAI RULES
LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD TITLE **DEFENSE: 153.1 - 159

    Aleksandar Naumoski, (San Jose, California, USA, 10-5/1, 159, 5'9", 4-2-80, Derek Yuen, (408) 605-0596)
defeated **Ed Abasolo, (Benicia, California, USA 9-1/3, 158.6, 5'10", 10-25-86, Trey Howard, (707) 373-4125 ) by unanimous decision, 49-47 on all 3 judges cards.
QS Report: The Main event of the night saw Ed Abasolo defending his IKF World Light Middleweight Title against Aleksandar Naumoski in a five round battle. This main event lived up to the hype as the two fighters battled in an absolute war. Abasolo dispense with his usual flash and show-boating, which would be simply too dangerous against a fight as tough as Naumoski. Abasolo chose to stand and trade with Naumoski and the two fighters traded leg kicks and punch combos. It was clear in the first three rounds that Naumoski was matching the champ, blow for blow and even giving better than he got. Naumoski's finest round was the fourth, he pinned Abasolo in the corner and battered about the head. But Naumoski seemed to tire in the fifth round and Abasolo stormed back, giving Naumoski a pretty good beating of his own. But Abasolo could get the finish and was behind too far from earlier round to catch up. The judges score it 49-47 for Naumoski on all three cards. Naumoski is your winner and new World Champion.
IKF head Steve Fossum spoke of an Abasolo-Naumoski rematch, which QS heartily endorses. If that fight happens, you will hear about it here on Questionable Stoppage first. Thanks for reading fight fans.
