Undefeated as an amateur, his 13 wins and no losses will be challenged by another one of California's tough contenders. (opponent not determined at press time) Elledge who's only eighteen years old, trains out of IKF Middleweight Professional World Champion Dave Marinoble's gym, also of Roseville.

Approximately nine other local men, women and juniors will be "squaring off" in the 20' boxing ring against opponents from across California. Some of them include, Derek Burnsed, (Left with belt) Mike Nap, Dion Pimento, Mike Marinoble (At left in center with hat) and others from the Placer County area. (Northern, California) "This will be a first class event with lots of action, lights and music and it will be a real treat for local fight fans," says Davis. He continues, "Plans are to have the event shown delayed telecast on a local cable station. Some of the footage may also be shown on the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Series. We would like to get local businesses involved to help sponsor the event. I'm confident we can fill the venue to capacity!"

This is only one of several events Davis is planning in the coming months and getting set for a busy 2004. He's anticipating larger professional shows in the near future but wants to move gradually and cautiously to assure each event's success.

Castillo And Loyce
Compete For Attention As Main Event On Born to Fight III

-With So Many Great Fights, Several Could Have Been The Main Event!-

Last night, July 26th, IKF Pro San Shou World Champion Cung Le and his Cung Le Promotional team hosted an excited crowd to 9 Amateur San Shou bouts and an exhibition bout at Born to Fight III at the Mt. Pleasant High School in San Jose California, USA. The full day event featured a limited contact daytime tournament followed by the night time full contact event. However, from what we saw at the day event, there was plenty of up and coming talent there and some appeared more than qualified to be on the night time full contact show. We are sure to see some of these individuals in the full contact ring soon.

The night time event started off with an exhibition bout which was followed by 9 real bouts. Although the main event was to be the top bout of the night between a top amateur woman's MuayThai fighter and a top amateur woman's San Shou fighter, some of the other bouts were just as exciting and could have also been billed as the main event.

CORRECTIONS MADE ON 7-28-03: One of the first of two that come to mind was the bout that matched up IKF Amateur San Shou California Cruiserweight Champion, Brian Madigan of Oakland, California, USA (14-5/0, 189, 6'1", 28, Brent Humby) against James Fanshier of El Dorado Hills, California, USA (9-1/4, 183, 5'10", 31, Cung Le). What made the bout more special was Fanshier took the bout on 48 hour notice when Madigan's opponent from Holland informed the Le camp that he could not make the event. Fanshier looked as if he had been training for the bout for months. This was a rematch. The two fought in Atlanta about a month ago to make the USA San Shou Team in a traditional San Shou bout fought on a let tai platform. In that bout, Fanshier defeated Madigan. (Please see below on this page on 7-17-03 the headline, "Love and Hate")

The always in shape Fanshier had a war on his hands since Madigan was primed and ready. For 3 rounds the two went toe to toe which was highlighted by a blasting head kick by Madigan that dropped Franshier to the canvas in round two. He beat the count and continued strong until the end. In the end, Madigan marked up close split decision win.

The other bout that stood out was between one of Cung Le's top coaches at his school, Ed Carpio (10-4/0, 134, 5'5", 30, Cung Le) and Duncan Duffin of Wyoming, Michigan, USA, (7-5/1, 133, 5'6", 34, Douglas Duffin). These two put on an exciting 4 rounds of San Shou action and had the crowd on their feet. Carpio though had little trouble dominating when he needed to, never losing a single round to Duffin. Carpio took the win by unanimous decision.

The main event of the night was the fight that matched up two different rule styles against each other... well sorta. In one corner stood top amateur woman's MuayThai fighter Lynda Loyce (Right) of San Francisco, California, USA (10-3/1, 125, 5'4", 26, Jongsanon & Boonkerd Fairtex) and in the other corner was top amateur woman's San Shou fighter, IKF Woman's Amateur San Shou U.S. Champion, Jenna Castillo (Right) of San Jose, California, USA (12-0/2, 121, 5'2", 21, Cung Le) It was clear to us that this was the bout the majority of the crowd had some to see. We said "Sorta" above because this was not exactly two rule styles against each other. Although the two excelled in different rule styles, this bout would be fought under only one of them, San Shou rules. The San Shou rules not only added an unfamiliar element for Loyce to deal with (Throws) but also take away one of her strongest weapons, her knees. So why would Loyce agree to such a bout? Easy answer, the two promised no matter what the outcome, to rematch in September under MuayThai rules.

Since this was under San Shou rules, it should have been all Castillo, but Loyce had no such plans. Although the frustration was obvious on Loyce's face when dealing with the throw attempts, she never backed down and held her ground pretty well against Castillo. The throws was what many thought would be the difference. They were in many spectators minds, Castillo's main weapon and strong point.... Ahhh... at least that was what we thought anyway. Calling us wrong, it was not Castillo's throws that stood out, it was her boxing! Yes, her BOXING! There were numerous times her hands lit up Loyce, even dropping her with a straight right in one round, which was probably a surprise to Loyce as well. But Castillo could not control the bout as many thought she should or would. Loyce did an excellent job of mixing up her attack and strategy on Castillo as well, taking her out of her San Shou focus and forcing her into her game of leg kicks. But to the surprise of many, when it appeared Loyce attained the level of control she needed, now it was Castillo who would take her out of her game with a throw or her boxing.

Leg kicks never played a major role in this bout. Both took them and gave them without a blink. In the end, Loyce proved she could hang in another rule style. Maybe not win yet, but she took the fight to the end and made many respect her ability because of it. Castillo proved she was not afraid of anyone in any rule style... well, at least for now. Come September, we will all see if taking Castillo's throws away will change her game much. Loyce is looking forward to the opportunity to introduce her knees to Castillo in "HER" game of MuayThai. It will be interesting to see what strategy the still undefeated Castillo brings to the ring in September. As for Loyce, we can pretty much figure whats on her mind, "Knee! Knee! Knee!" We look forward to the rematch. Castillo will take the win this time but not unanimous, it was a majority decision since one judge, Ray Belowitz scored it event at two rounds each while the other two judges gave it to Castillo 4 rounds to none and 3 rounds to 1. Here are the results of the nights other bouts:

  1. Robert Cornejo (UsH, San Jose, California, USA, 3-1/0, 157, 5'11", 18, Cung Le) defeated Dominic Ollhoff (Bellefontaine, Ohio, USA, 9-5/0, 153, 5'9", 21, Scott Sheeley by unanimous decision.

  2. Sarah Ponce (Houston, Texas, USA, 7-1/2, 126, 5'7", 26, Mike Altman) defeated Beth Wolfe (Oakland, California, USA, 3-1/2, 130, 5'5", 37, Brent Hamby) by unanimous decision.

  3. Brian Kuhn (San Jose, California, USA, 5-3/1, 194, 6'3", 33, Self) defeated Jeff Gonzales (UsH, San Jose, California, USA, 3-2/0, 187, 6', 21, Cung Le) by a questionable split decision.

  4. Geraldo Aguilar (West Valley College, San Jose, California, 7-0/1, 163, 5'11", 23, 12-27-79, Brian Kuhn) defeated Andras Gal (New York, New York, USA, 3-2/2, 164, 6', 27, David Ross) by unanimous decision.

  5. Max Chen (New York, New York, USA, 18-5/2, 154, 5'10", 10-12-80, William Chen)) defeated Chris Aldea ( San Fransisco, California, USA, 2-3/0, 158, 5'8", 23, 6-8-80, Jongasanon Fairtex) by split decision.

  6. Russ Middleton (Oakland, California, USA, 16-4/2, 175, 5'9", 27, Brent Humby) defeated Richie Council (Bellefontaine, Ohio, USA, 5-3/1, 177, 5'9", 25, Scott Sheely) by unanimous decision.

In attendance as special guest were 5 time world kickboxing champion Kathy "the Punisher" Long (Right), former IKF USA National Amateur Tournament Champion and current K-1 Pro North American Champion Carter Williams (Right) and Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, a top contender for the Pride MMA tournament.

IKF/CSS TV Program Ready For You!

Starting Friday, September 5th, the IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program will bring Kickboxing action to TV for 17 straight Friday nights in the South East region of the U.S. The region includes 9 states Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina & North Carolina. The viewer subscriber list totals nearly 4 million (See below right) while the viewers are estimated at well over 10 million. Our first program date is approaching fast and we have been extremely busy around the IKF Headquarters here organizing fight footage, editing fight video, writing scripts for the in show segments, meeting with post production programs, talking to potential sponsors and on and on. To say the least, we have been VERY BUSY! Not to mention all the work with our yearly USA National Amateur Tournament.

With all that being said, we are making the first announcement as to where all of you associated with the IKF fit in to the new IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program. In the past there have been several different Kickboxing TV Programs done here and there on TV. Some have been great to watch while others, well, you know what we mean. When these programs were on, what was missing were the faces of the sport. Sure we saw the fights, but who are these people? Adding to this, the fights we did see were only those filmed as a major production. What about the fights we never see on TV such as the "MANY" Great Amateur bouts (Headgear and all) or the pro fights not professionally filmed?

Well, the goal of the IKF is to create stars of the sport and sometimes, those stars will come from some of the most unlikely places around the globe. Top fighters do not always come from the largest of cities and fight in the largest of events. Our goal is to discover as much talent in our sport as possible and put it on TV! Whether amateur or pro, young or old, small or big. Whether from the small town grass roots locations around the world or the major cities, the fact is, "Talent comes from EVERYWHERE!" For this reason we are making this request to EVERY person associated with the IKF ANYWHERE in the World. "We Want To Make You STARS!"

Currently the IKF is working with several post production companies in putting together various segments of the first several programs. These segments will include the opening and closing highlights of the show and various in program segments that will feature fighters and faces from around the IKF world. Where you can help will be two areas.

FIGHT FOOTAGE
The first will be video footage of great bouts, hits, knockdowns, kicks etc. of your fights, fighters and events. The IKF needs as many great hits as you can send them and if you think you have one of the greatest bouts ever fought in the sport, send us the whole bout! All of you have seen shows like "Funniest Home Videos" where viewers send in their personal, sometimes blurry and often unprofessionally filmed footage. Well this is the same concept. Don't get us wrong, if you have professional shot fight footage, this would be even better of course, but we know this is not always the case. This footage could be used in several areas. The opening highlights of the program, the closing highlights or in our special in show segment section called "Hits and Highlights". The "Hits and Highlights" segment will surly turn out to be one of the most popular of the program. This segment will air at the end of the program and have a run time of between 2 and 3 minutes and will be fast action clips of the Best Hits and Highlights we can attain.

As far as what footage and how to send it, we can only use footage from IKF Sanctioned events only. Although legally, IKF owns all fight footage of any IKF Sanctioned events, (See IKF Sanctioning) if we decide to use any of your footage we will want to attain a release form from you for use of the footage. We would need these signed forms from you, the sender and all the individuals who appear on the footage. We will have a page here on the site for you to print out soon, but for now, just send us your footage ASAP so we can get some of it on the first few programs.

When you send in footage, keep in mind we will accept any type of basic video (USA - VHS Format) up to top level Digital or Beta SP, which is the very best. When sending in your video, if you want us to see a certain part, please have that part Q'ed up for us so we do not have to spend time searching for it on the video. Include with your mailing a description of what you want us to focus on so we know what to look for. Also include the names and any fight stats you can of those in the spot you want us to view.

If you want to be a part of any of the first 4 programs, we need you to EXPRESS Mail your footage NOW! We go into the post production studio on August 6th and we will need to review your event prior to selecting it for the program. If you are sending footage from outside the USA make sure the footage has been transferred to USA - VHS Format already.
Send all footage to:

Attention IKF/CSS Kickboxing Program

SPONSORSHIP: The next area you can assist in will be in the attainment of program sponsorship. Although we will have some commercials that are not directly associated to IKF Kickboxing within the program during commercial breaks, our main focus is to feature those companies who are in some way associated to our sport. Since the start of the program will be in the South East region of the United States (See map above right and city subscriber list at right.) those of you in the South East may want to talk to some of the businesses and companies you associate with there about becoming a program sponsor. If you are not in this South East region, you may have a national company in your hometown or better yet, the headquarters of a National or International company local to you that does business around the nation, including the South East. Here is a list of the various segments and sponsorship opportunities available listed below:

  • MAIN EVENT - DESK TALK
    • This is the most visible sponsorship of the entire program because we will continue to come back to the desk throughout the program. There are a total of -4- desk segments totaling 4 minutes and 30 seconds of program time. Sponsors name and or logo will be displayed during sit down desk portion of the program. The name/logo will either be displayed on the front of the desk or as a backdrop to the desk set itself.

  • CORNER TALK
    • 3 Minutes: This is special interview with a fighter, trainer, promoter or other associate of the IKF. It could be a sit-down talk show format with highlights or an interview at an event or at the individual's gym. It could also be a segment featuring training ideas as well by a trainer or past or present fighters showing their favorite techniques. Whatever the segment will be it will be named after the sponsor. Sponsors name and or logo will be displayed at the bottom, side or top of the screen during the entire segment.

  • ON THE ROAD - WHERE ARE THEY NOW
    • 3 Minutes: This segment will vary week to week and will feature current and local fighters, trainers and legends of the sport. "On the Road" will feature those current in the sport who are up and coming stars as well as already established individuals. "Where Are They Now" will take a look back at the past legends of our sport. Who they were, what they accomplished and where they are today. Sponsors name and or logo will be displayed at the bottom, side or top of the screen during the entire segment.

  • INDIVIDUAL FIGHT SPONSOR
    • Segment time will vary depending on the length of the bout shown. This sponsorship will include the sponsors name on the tale of the tape and "On the screen during the entire bout".

  • HITS & HIGHLIGHTS
    • 2 -3 Minutes: This may prove to be the most popular segment in the program. It will feature footage of bouts collected by our programming staff from events we have been a part of as well as bout footage sent in by viewers. Fast clips of exciting fight action this segment may grow so popular it could very well be extended in time in the future.

  • FINAL ROUND SPONSOR SEGMENT TIME:
    • 2 Minutes: This segment will be the final sit down segment of the program and as they say in the fight game, "The last bout is what everyone remembers most!" This will review the entire show and look to the future of the sport. Fights we would like to see as well as fights that have taken place in the past. We may also discuss upcoming events in this segment as well as show clips of some great fights of the past, recent IKF Titles won around the world AND some great KNOCKOUT WINS!

With your assistance, it gives us the opportunity to keep our work closely associated with those associated with the IKF and better yet, it's also a great way for you to make some extra money as well and help the IKF/CSS Kickboxing too. Anyone who brings in program sponsorship will of course be paid a percentage for their work. Who knows, your next calling could be as an advertising agency for IKF Kickboxing around the world. So if you have some connections out there with some South East companies, national companies, or possibly even your own company (Kickboxing clubs in the South East for example) we want to hear from you! For segment rates or other questions please contact the IKF at main@ikfkickboxing.com or by phone at (916) 663-2467 and one of our associates will get back to you ASAP to see where you can help out and again, possibly make some extra cash doing it.

PROGRAM INFO
The IKF/CSS Kickboxing program will start on the first Friday in September (September 5th) and will air IKF Kickboxing on a weekly basis at 11:PM to nearly 4 million households. Our first series will air for 17 straight weeks and run until December 26th featuring an hour program of IKF Kickboxing! During the run, there is a very good possibility of some "LIVE" event broadcast but most of the programs will feature tape delay of past IKF Kickboxing events. Some of the bouts featured may be IKF Sanctioned action from years ago to remind everyone of some of the great IKF Championship bouts few may have seen. Programming for the first couple of shows will feature the IKF Amateur program and amateur bouts. After the first couple programs we will feature both IKF Pro as well as specially selected IKF Amateur kickboxing bouts from IKF Sanctioned events and of course, IKF Tournament action from around the world.

What will make this program more exciting than any other past programs for the sport of kickboxing will be the shows format. Not only will the "Weekly" programming be a first for the sport since the 80's, the format will bring more attention to those individuals involved in the sport. The show segments will include things such as fighter profiles, training tips, special guests, gear and product reviews, gym visits and of course, plenty of exciting IKF Kickboxing Action!

CSS, a partnership between Comcast Corporation and Charter Communications, launched September 3, 1999 as a 24-hour regional sports network. CSS programming includes live and re-aired NCAA football, basketball and baseball games; weekly coach's and preview shows; minor league hockey and baseball; stock car racing; outdoor shows, ESPN NEWS and now, IKF Kickboxing. Currently, CSS has approximately 3.9 million subscribers across nine Southeastern states.

Elledge Claims Another While
Savoy Gets First!

Fairfield, California, USA
IKF Promoters Dan and Tim Stell of LTD Productions were once again happy with the results of their IKF Fairfield Fight Night event Saturday night, July 18th at the Allan Witt Sports Complex (Fairfield Sports Center) in Fairfield, California, USA. The event was co-hosted by LTD and the City of Fairfield Community Services.

The event had 2 co-main events and both featured vacant IKF amateur California Title bouts. The first of the two was a rematch for the Vacant IKF Amateur IR Light Heavyweight California Title between number 6 IKF Ranked Glen Haley (5-1-1/4) of Santa Clara, California and number 7 IKF Ranked Floyd Savoy (Left, 5-1-1/3) of San Francisco, California. The two fought to a split decision draw earlier this year on May 31st in Fairfield. However this time Savoy had no plans of keeping it close. He came out more aggressive than last time while Haley seemed to start out a bit on the cautious side. A scare came across everyone when Haley took a headbutt that split a small cut around his eyebrow, but it wasn't as bad as it first appeared.

The two had some rounds where they went toe to toe on exchanges but in the end, Savoy took the title. However it wasn't unanimous. Judge Susan Gitlin Thomas scored it 39-37 for Savoy, judge Allen Reyes scored it 40-36 for Savoy but judge Dan Stell scored it 38-38 even. Savoy took the majority decision win and the IKF Brass home this time!

Haley now needs to focus on yet another goal, the upcoming IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament. Savoy will be unable to attend the Nationals but Haley will be there in an attempt to take home another piece of IKF Brass, the National Tournament Title.

The other main event featured 2 time IKF USA National Amateur Tournament Champion and 2003 IKF North American Tournament Champion, Robert Elledge (Right, 13-0/4) of Roseville, California in a rematch with Jose Paez' (4-2/0) of Concord, California, USA. Elledge had defeated Paez' earlier this year at a smaller "In Gym" event but several had claimed that Paez' should have won the bout. In the rematch here they would fight for a little more. This time on the line was the vacant IKF Amateur FCR Light Welterweight California Title.

When Elledge fights, he sometimes appears to be a bit wild and uncontrolled, but as someone pointed out, he's just avoiding getting hit, which he does a great job of. In round 1, he took on that wild scamper around the ring look, picking and landing his shots and slipping away from danger before it had a chance to show up. In round 2 he started to calm down and set in on his punched a bit more. We were looking for this one to heat up in round 3 but Paez' somehow hurt his foot and was unable to answer the bell for round 3. In the end, Elledge took the title by TKO win. Elledge will focus on defending his IKF USA National Title this August.

Here are the results of the rest of the nights Kickboxing action:

  1. IKF Amateur International Rules
    Yoshi Takamashi
of San Francisco, California, USA (1-0/1, 155, 5'8", 23, 6-4-80, Jeff Chow, (415) 752-5551) looked great in his debut fight as he took it to Paul Powers of Fairfield, California, USA (1-2/0, 15-, 5'5", 22, Randy Bussart, (707) 761-0187). After a successful round 1, Takamashi put a stop to it at the 7 second mark of round 2. Takamashi win by TKO at :07 round 2.

  2. IKF Amateur Full Contact Rules
    Dion Pamento
of Roseville, California, USA (3-5/2, 170, 6', 31, 3-9-72, Dave Marinoble (916) 768-0333) defeated Justin Pollard (167) by TKO at 1:58 of round 1. Pamento, like Elledge now sets his sites on this years IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament.

  3. IKF Amateur International Rules
    Derrick Burnsed
of Roseville, California, USA (5-1/1, 171, 5'8", 23, 6-9-80, Dave Marinoble (916) 768-0333) defeated Jeremy Flanding of Concord, California, USA (5-3/0, 169, 5'9", 26, 5-22-77, George Tsutsui (925) 934-9898) by unanimous decision, 30-27 on all 3 Judges cards. Burnsed makes the third fighter from Marinobles camp preparing to "Walk The Walk" at the IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament next month.

Love and Hate
US San Shou National Team Trials
(The Good, The Bad, and the UGLY)

By Rudi Ott, IKF Pro San Shou World Champion

Whats love got to do with it? Everything. Love for our art, love for competition, love for living in the present and being at our best. Love is what makes us put in hours in smelly gyms and starve ourselves to near unconsciousness. Love gets us through aches and pains, bumps and bruises. Love picks us off the matt and continue to fight win or lose. Love is the core of our being, our very existence. Love is why I'm writing this letter, because I don't want my love to turn to hate.

As a fighter I have been very fortunate in the fact that the love growing inside me manifested itself into the drive and desire to surpass my potential and conquer my limitations. As a coach I hope that the same internal mechanism transform itself into a greater good, serving others. I have always felt coaching is more strenuous than fighting itself. You not only live through your students but are also a direct reflection of them. If you have done your job right then they are prepared for any obstacle they might encounter. Day to day you work on them physically and mentally and hope you have given them your best. So what happens when all the hard work is put in and the goal is achieved but the result is not what is deserved? The answer...hate.

Hate seems to be the culprit at the recent USAWKF US National SanShou Team Selection on June 28th in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. For a little history I have been a team member in 1997, 99, and 2001 and my coach Cung Le(IKF Pro San Shou World Champion) in 1995, 97, and 99. And each of those years we have had team mates and students on the team as well. For Sanshou in the US it has been a benchmark for top fighters. The Head Coach of the Team has always been Shawn Liu and for the USAWKF probably always will be. We (we as in the sanshou community) have always had a good relationship with Shawn Liu but have never been happy with the USAWKF's inability to support their athletes in anyway shape or form. Unfortunately now our relationship with Shawn Liu has deteriorated and he has sided with the USAWKF.

San Shou has come along way in recent years. This is a credit to what is coined the Big 6 or the top six teams in the country; New York, Boston, Ohio, Oakland, Houston, and San Jose for producing quality fighters year in and year out. It has also grown in notoriety thanks to its top fighter Cung Le (L) and the exposure he has brought to the sport. Shawn Liu also did a lot for the sport early on. He was the first to hold all sanshou tournaments and brought teams from China over to compete with American athletes. Without a doubt, this raised the bar of our fighters, I myself competed against a fighter from the Chinese military team in my first tournament. But Shawn Liu has also been ineffective in pushing sanshou to the main stream and has been mired in outdated principles and fighting formats which showed itself again at this years Team Trials.

To put it bluntly the trials were a disaster. It started with the date being put way to close to Cung Le's Born to Fight (July, 26th, San Jose California USA) which all the top teams and fighter had already committed to. It continued when the New York team was banned from the trials just for voicing opposition. It culminated the day of the event. In all the years the team trials have existed this had the lowest participation, only the teams that wanted to deal with all the bull were even willing to make the trip.

This is when hate began to raise its ugly head, and direct itself at the UsH Fight Team. It is common knowledge that Cung Le and myself have publicly denounced the leadership of the USAWKF (Anthony Goh) for some time. Other teams have done the same and boycotted their events while others just try to be diplomatic for the sake of their athletes. Well, our opposition was soon to be thrown back in our face. There are only 5 spots allowed for each team out of 11 weight categories and six fighters won their division.

So now there is a dilemma. Now the team must be decided by criteria. Albert, Mike, and Max have all been previous team members so they are essentially in. Russ Middleton won this years USAWKF Nationals so he would be the next likely candidate. It came down to James Fanshier and Patrick Barry. James has a USAWKF National Title from 2000 where he beat Russ Middleton. Patrick Berry lost this years National to Brian Madigan (Of Oakland, California, USA, IKF San Shou California Cruiserweight Champion, not to be confused with Pro IKF MTR Champion Brian Madigan of Ohio) who incidently James beat in the finals of the Team Trials. So James beat the guy Patrick lost to and has a title from the teams organization. James should be the one selected right? Wrong, Patrick Berry was chosen. Oh, did I forget to mention James is a member of the UsH Fight Team and Patrick is a student of Shawn Liu, uhmmn.

The criteria itself would have selected James but the powers to be in the USAWKF, Anthony Goh and Shawn Liu chose to override the selection process that they themselves predetermined. The Criteria goes as follows in descending order:

  1. US Team fighter who has placed in at least one of the previous 3 World Championships.
  2. Fighter that has been on US Team for 2 consecutive terms.
  3. Former US Team Member.
  4. Former USAWKF National Champion - this is where James Fanshier falls.
  5. Former USASKF Title winner - made for Patrick Berry & Shwan Liu's own organization.
  6. Former US Open Title winner

I know many of you are reading this and thinking well Rudi is biased, well yes I am, I cant help but be. I gave up my spot so James would have a real chance to make the team. If I claimed my spot it would be mute for James or Parick. It is very sad that we have all come to this. It would be great if we had a team united ready to take on the world, but politics have tarnished another form of artistic expression and lowered the standard of those artist. It would Help if we had an organization that was truly interested in growing our sport and supporting our athletes, but we don't so we must rely on ourselves if were are ever going to make something great of the sport we love. I know we all have our own agendas and all want our team to be the best but together the competition will make us greater as long as we are playing on the same field. Our common denominator is the love we share for the art we chose to compete under and that is greater than the hate any one person or organization can hold over us. Peace.... UsH! ( Unity Starts Here) Rudi Ott

IKF Point Kickboxing© Grand!
$$$$ Point Kickboxingã takes another step forward! $$$$
Cash Awards * Team Competition * Fourth Place Awards

Johnny Davis and his A. K. Promotions company are taking the IKF Point Kickboxing© tournaments to the next level in making it more like the traditional point karate tournaments. Not in style of fighting but in the awards. The next installment of PKB will be held October 4th, in Roseville CA. However, this time competitors will not only compete for nice trophies but also have the chance to win Grand Championship CASH! That's right… CASH!

There could be approximately $1000 dollars in cash prizes at this event depending on participation. To make this tournament even more unique, it will feature Team Competition that will allow groups of three (3) in a specific division (Women, Men and Juniors) to win trophies and CASH ! Fourth Place Awards will also be awarded, giving almost everyone a chance to win!

Back in May of this year, the PKB tournament was held in conjunction with IKF Pro FCR World Champion Dave Marinoble's Martial Arts tournaments. However, this time the entire venue will be dedicated to the PKB tournament giving the ability to run up to four rings at a time. (normally only two floor rings are used) The Marinoble Kickboxing training facility is located at 600 Commerce Drive in Roseville, CA 95678. It's over 6000 square feet and seats up to 400 spectators with a ring. It is a perfect venue for IKF Point Kickboxing© and small amateur full contact events.

The PKB tournament will have divisions for beginners and advanced competitors. Anyone with under four years experience will be in the beginners division. Those holding the rank of Brown /Red belt or above will be in the advanced division regardless of length time in the martial arts. Davis notes "what we have found is the experience below the brown and black belt level in Karate type style matters some but really doesn't give the competitor much of an edge in PKB tournaments. However, after the brown belt level there seems to be a noticeable gap when a brown or black belts competes against a beginner Kickboxer." He continues, "since we have been doing the tournaments we have seen black belts lose decisively to a beginner Kickboxers, but we want to err to caution and keep the tournaments as safe as possible."

All competitors are reminded that contact is strictly enforced in these tournaments! The cash awards should not be seen as an incentive to go full contact. It is a semi-contact continuous sparring event and KO's and TKO's Are Not Allowed! If you knock someone out, you will be disqualified. "The PKB tournaments were designed to assist the beginner without the fear of KO's and to give the more experienced competitor an opportunity to spar diverse competition. If for some reason you or your school sees this competition as something other than the previously stated, its not for you," says Davis.

October 4th PKB Advanced Registration Is Now Open! For those that like to save money and time, you can pre register for the October 4th event by sending in your $25 pre-registration fee and application before September 20th and Save $10. ($35 at the Door) Send to: A. K. Promotions, 2230 Sunset Blvd. #142 Rocklin, CA, 95765 - Team Registration is also available. To register, CLICK HERE! For more information, rules, dress codes Click HERE! For additional information contact PKB Director Johnny Davis at A. K. Promotions (916) 780-7483 or by email at johnnyd@netwiz.net. IKF Point Kickboxing©... Your first step out of the gym! PKB Footnote

Special Note: Point International Rules (PIR) will replace (PMT) Point Muay Thai Rules on the October event. Davis decided to make the change due to the previous low turnout for Point Muay Thai divisions. Other IKF Point Kickboxing© Tournaments like Professor Carlos Navarro's event September 6th will have a Point Muay Thai division.

Makes Salt Lake City HOT!

By Kwame Stephens, IKF Utah Representative

IKF Salt Lake City, Utah, USA
It was a great show put on by the MuayThai Institute of Kunponli where the crowd was treated to upcoming amateur talent in the Muay Thai division. Trainer and promoter Sakasem Kanthawong had the crowd entertained with some good matchmaking. All participating gyms came to fight and really showcased their young talents. Participating gyms were Saekson Janjira Muay Thai of Plano, Texas, SideKicks Kickboxing of Nampa, Idaho, Muay Thai Academy of Casper, Wyoming, Walt Bayless Jiu-Jitsu and Provo Muay Thai. Here are the nights results below.

  1. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Bianca Solis of Nampa, Indiana, USA (3-0, 95, 4'11", 12, Chris Reyna, 208-463-9999) defeated Jimary Marquez of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (0-1, 100, 4'11 12, Sakasem, 801-474-3136) by unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27 and 30-27.

This TKO has taken Bell out of the 2003 IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament due to the 45 day medical suspension rule.

  3. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Andrew Goldthwait of Plano, Texas, USA (1-0, 170, 6'3, 18, Saekson Janjira, 972-769-8663) defeated Josh Goldberg of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (0-1, 165, 6'2, 22, Sakasem, 801-474-3136) by unanimous decision.

  4. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Robby Wyatt of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (1-0, 156, 5'7, 23, Sakasem, 801-474-3136) defeated Dan Montano of Nampa, Idaho, USA (0-1, 154, 5'9, 20, Chris Reyna, 208-463-9999) by unanimous decision.

  5. IKF Amateur MuayThai

  7. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Cody Mejia of Nampa, Idaho, USA (1-0, 158, 6'0, 17, Chris Reyna, 208-463-9999) vs Matt Irving of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (1-2, 156, 5'8, 24, Sakasem, 801-474-3136). This bout was declared a draw.

  8. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Arsen Mkrtchyan of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (1-0, 208, 5'9, 25, Sakasem, 801-474-3136) defeated Jared Nab of Casper, Wyoming, USA (7-2, 197, 5'9, 25, Jared Nabb, 307-472-3350) by 2nd rd TKO.

  9. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Joe Cunliff of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (0-0, 220, 6'4, 28, Sakasem, 801-474-3136) vs Mike Flores of Nampa, Idaho, USA (1-0 , 230, 6'0, 18, Chris Reyna, 208-463-9999) NO CONTEST.

  10. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Anthony Njokuani of Plano, Texas, USA (6-0, 4ko 171, 6'0, 23, Saekson Janjira, 972-769-8663) defeated Mickee Porritt of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA (8-1 8ko, 170, 6'1, 30, Griffin Reynauld, 801-942-6903) by unanimous decision. This was undoubtedly the fight of the night. It was your basic technique & speed vs raw power and will, which always makes for an entertaining fight. Anthony Njokunai scored with quickness and movement while Mickee Porritt constantly came forward as the aggressor. Hats off to these 2 athletes for giving such a great bout.

  11. IKF Amateur MuayThai
Dan Green of Provo, Utah, USA (1-2 1ko, 185, 6'1, 26, Self, 801-687-7071) defeated Jason House of Plano, Texas, USA (6-0, 4ko 190, 6'0, 26, Saekson Janjira, 972-769-8663) by 4th rd TKO. Another great bout of the night. You knew when this bout started that it was not going to decision. Both men traded with Dan Green moving constantly. Good kicks and punches were traded by both fighters but unfortunately one has to win and one has to lose. Good fight guys

By the evenings end, there wasn't a disappointed fan in the house. Good job by Sakasem and the Muay Thai Institute for providing action for the Salt Lake fans. Lets hope we see some of these fighters at the 2003 IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament in August! Are They AFRAID Of Him?

Well, it's seems that way. Or maybe we just haven't found that one Amateur Super Heavyweight Fighter willing to step in the ring with him and is qualified enough to contend for the vacant IKF Amateur Super Heavyweight World Title! Maybe it's his ring name that has kept opponents away, or better yet, how he earned it. The name "THUNDER FOOT" speaks for itself! On November 23rd of last year, IKF Representative and World Ambassador Brooks Mason described Tompkins bout with Matt Levins these words, "Trent scored a knockdown with a right hand at the start of the round but that's not what the crowd came to see. It's those legs baby. How do you fight a kicker like that? For the second fight in a row, Tompkins dispatched his opponent with a spinning hook kick to the chin in the first round. There is no doubt in my mind that Tompkins will be the next Super Heavyweight Champ of the World. Winner of the fight. Tompkins by horizontal tango."

Trent Tompkins (Right, 14-0/8, 1 no contest, 6'1", 217, 20 years old) of Waterloo Iowa USA has been training and waiting and training and waiting to see who, if anyone in the Amateur Full Contact Rules Super Heavyweight division will step up to meet him in the ring. However, we have had NO CREDIBLE OFFERS! NONE! Sure, we have had a few fighters with less than 5 fights offer to step in against him, but no fighters who are Qualified for an Amateur WORLD Title! At least an IKF Amateur World Title.

As we pointed out in an article earlier this week below, Trent is well known to the IKF Amateur ranks. He has never lost a bout and like other undefeated amateur fighters like Stephen Thompson, of South Carolina, USA, opponents are getting harder and harder to find. Tompkins won the 2001 IKF USA Super Heavyweight National Title in Kansas City, Kansas. At the Nationals that year he won his first round prelim bout when he defeated David Hampton of Calmet City, Illinois (10-3-2) by TKO at 28 seconds into the 2nd round to advance to the Final. In the final he defeated the defending National Champion, John Lenamon of Abilene, Texas (6-3/5) by unanimous decision, 29-28, 29-27 & 29-27.

Tompkins went on to win the IKF North American Title on a regular event on May 11th, 2002 in Waterloo Iowa when he defeated Ivan Varga of Kitchener, Ontario Canada by a spinning hook kick KO (Right & below Left after the bout with his father -L- and trainer, Russ O'Connell -R.) at 40 seconds into the first round. Before his win at Nationals he won won the IKF Amateur FCR Super Heavyweight Iowa State title in April of 2000 in Waterloo, Iowa, USA when he defeated Jason Fulcher by KO at :35 seconds round 1. He later defended his state title in a challenge bout on February 16th, 2001 in Davenport Iowa over Kenny Nyquist of Davenport, Iowa by KO at :35 seconds into round 1.

In his last bout this past April his opponent, Jason Ransom of Beloit Wisconsin, USA (10-2) pulled out the week of the event and a fighter named Rick Bloyer stepped in to help out on two days notice. Since the weight was so far off, this was just an exhibition bout for both. Too bad Ransom isn't scheduled to "Walk the Walk" this year's USA Nationals taking place in his backyard. We would have loved to see him fight. Same for Bloyer as well.

So the question remains, are there ANY CREDIBLE CHALLENGERS for Tompkins? If so, we want to bring you to Waterloo, Iowa on august 23rd to meet up with Tompkins for the vacant IKF Amateur FCR Super Heavyweight World Title!

Any interested trainers with fighters or fighters, please contact is here at the IKF at main@ikfkickboxing.com. or contact the event promoter, Russ O'Connell at at (319) 233-8975 or by e-mail at Tkdoc07@aol.com

PART ONE
WHAT CHAMPIONS?

What IKF Amateur Champions Are Going To Nationals?
What IKF Amateur Champions Have Been To Nationals?
What IKF Amateur Champions Are Staying Home For Nationals?

And What IKF Title Holders Are Soon To
Vacate Their Titles.

Someone recently asked a very good question on the kickboxing message board. "I see alot of regional and state champions listed on the rankings page any of these champions showing up to walk the walk in Iowa? " We thought the question was so good that we wanted to know ourselves. We wanted to also know what IKF Amateur Champions are just sitting on their titles and have never defended them. Surly there were a lot, but mainly because no one has ever challenged them. Still, we wondered what was stopping them from taking that next step to be a National Champion.

What we found out was that some are not even fighting anymore. These fighters are soon to have their titles retired/vacated to provide other fighters the opportunity to fight for them. Some of the IKF Amateur Champions of course have either already been to an IKF National Tournament while others are scheduled to "Walk the Walk" this year. Some will be seeking to win their 3rd and even their 4th IKF USA National title.

Over the next few days we will post up the various amateur champions in each rule style for everyone to see. Take a look at when and how they won their titles and if they have ever "Walked the Walk" at the IKF Nationals. As well, see which state and regional champions will be "Walking the Walk" this August in Iowa at the 5th annual IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament and what champions are being looked at by the IKF to be vacated for lack of activity.

IKF National Tournament Champions not listed. Only State, Regional or non tournament continental title champions.

Mike "Walked the Walk" in 2001 but lost a very close bout in the opening round to Tim Mazurkievicz of Roscoe, Illinois by unanimous decision. However, the bout had an "Official IKF" protest since 2 of the 3 judges were from Mazurkievicz hometown and 1 from his gym. The head of IKF Officials protested the bout after discovering this and disciplined the judges because they failed to leave their judging position and be replaced for this bout by neutral judges. Because of this, a protested review via video of the bout gave Marinoble the win so a 1 round fight-off was fought and Mazurkievicz won to advance to round 2. Mike won his title above on June 26th, 2000 in Sacramento, California, USA when he defeated Pete Garcia of Redding, CA, USA by unanimous decision, 40-36, 40-36 & 40-36. Registration Strong
& On Schedule For
2003 IKF/TKO
USA Nationals!

By July 4th of last year we had a little over 150 fighters registered for the 2002 IKF USA Nationals. That goal is clearly within reach as we approach Friday with already 83 Registered Fighters as of press time (2:45 PM) and we haven't picked up todays mail yet. Expect plenty more to be added later today, tomorrow and Friday (Not to mention those registering late that will come in between Friday and August 1st) for this years IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament. Last years 2002 IKF USA Nationals we had 244 fighters registered but only 200 showed up in Davenport Iowa to "Walk The Walk". This was no surprise as we have seen fighters pull out before the event in the past due to the many various reasons. For the 2001 Nationals there were 265 registered fighters but we only saw 207 show up in Kansas City, Kansas to "Walk The Walk". The year before in 2000, 145 fighters registered but only 116 showed up in Council Bluffs Iowa to "Walk Thew Walk!"

The only year we saw close to a 100% show-up rate was our first year, 1999, where we had 89 registered fighters and 85 showed up (Some of the 'Class of 1999' at right which includes some, not all, of the 1999 Champions, Fighters and Trainers) in Council Bluffs, Iowa to "Walk The Walk!"

Bozada by Knockout!
And The Rest Of The St. Louis Results!
St. Louis, Missouri, USA

IKF/ISCF St. Louis, Missouri
On the hot humid banks of the Mississippi River, Lucky's on the Landing was packed to the seams with eager fight fans wanting to see a night of action. Finney's heated the St. Louis night up even more than it already was. The fight card started out with a bang and continued through the night. Here are the nights results.

In the opening bout, Finney's Dylon Leonard squaring off against Waterloo, IA's Matt Bedard. Leonard came out a little slow, which gave Bedard a chance to set the pace. Both fighters were landing good combinations. Leonard picked it up with a minute left in the round to take Round 1 on all three judges scorecards.
The second round had Bedard coming out fighting, Leonard once again weathered the storm and turned it back on in the last minute, cornering Bedard and picking his punching. Again Leonard took round 2.
The final round was all Leonard. He came out looking to end this with a knock out. Bedard showed heart and kept fighting back, but Leonard was too much in the third. Leonard won this one by unanimous decision.

The second fight of the night was a rematch. St. Louis's Matt Taft and Cedar Valley, IA's Nick Anderson. This fight was one of the best, if not the best fight on the night. Both fighters came out ready to bang. Anderson stuck with his kicks and stayed on the outside, while Taff tried to get inside and work his combinations. Round 1 went to Anderson and all scorecards.
In round 2, Taft came out with vengeance. Landing great punches and kicks. Anderson held his ground. Round 2 was given to Taft on all scorecards.
The third and final round was nothing less than exciting. Both fights were giving it their all, this showed in the last :20 seconds when both fighters laid on each other against the ropes in exhaustion. Taft won the round, but didn't get his kicks in which cost him a point deduction and the fight, as this one ended in a draw.

The third fight was a special ProAM "Exhibition" fight. Its hard to find something wrong with the way Kevin Engal fights, the only thing that trainer Jesse Finney can find is he is too good! No one will fight him. With nationals a little over a month away, Finney didn't want Engel to have 3 months of inactivity going into the tournament. So he scheduled an exhibition fight with Ray Darden, of Detroit, MI. Darden is a current North American Light Heavyweight Champion in another organization, and has amazing hand speed. This is something even Engal noticed. After the Exhibition that's all Engal would talk about, this coming from a person who beats all of his opponents to the punch in all his fights. As far as the Exhibition went, the two fighters set a good pace and showed everyone how two top fighters can still get in the ring and bang, even though it was an exhibition. Many thanks to Ray Darden for filling in.

The first on the ISCF fights brought Finney's Mike Green back to the style he started at. Green has been training and fighting FCR with Finney's for awhile, but his love still is NHB. His opponent was St. Joseph, OK's Manual Salato. This fight didn't take long to develop. Green came out using some of the stills that he has learned since training at Finney's, LOW KICKS. Green landing more than 5 low kicks in the first 30 seconds. This made Salato start looking to take it to the ground. Salato shot on Green, and neutralized the takedown, following it up with a back leg round kick that landed on Salato's forearm. Salato quickly dropped in pain, which made the referee step in and stop the fight. Dr. Dori Boyer examined Salato, and put is arm in a cast. Salato broke is arm in 2 places. Our best wishes go out to Manual Salato.

The fifth fight of the night was nothing short of exciting. Marc Mayfield (L) received an injury 6 months ago while training. After sitting out the 6 months that the doctors requested, Mayfield jump back into the ring. This time it was against a bigger and Heavier Dwight Davis, out of Detroit, MI. Mayfield came out looking like times of old, pressuring his opponent. The first round was all Mayfield as it looked like Mayfield wanted everyone to know that he is at 100%.
The second round was a little more cautious by Mayfield, taking his time and picking more of his punches. Davis came on in the late part of the round, but Mayfield countered with punches and kick combinations.
The third round was more exciting than the 2nd. Mayfield started landing a lot of body punches and followed with vicious upper cuts. Davis wasn't done either. Davis landed a side kick to Mayfield face, which staggered him for a minute. Then Mayfield came on harder as to almost say, "You need more than that to take me down" Mayfield wins by decision.

The last ISCF fight was Deryck Ripley, Marshall, MO. against Mike Rothmeyer, of St. Louis, MO.
When the fight started Ripley shot immediately on Rothmeyer and took him down with a single leg. Rothmeyer quickly got Ripley in the guard. Ripley started throwing punches, that landing and split Rothmeyer's eye, and looked as though Rothmeyer was out. The referee stepped in an broke them up and had the doctor look at Rothmeyer's eye. Then he started them again, standing up, where Ripley shot again and Rothmeyer got him in a guillotine for the win. This fight was filled with questions by some watching due to the stoppage that gave Rothmeyer time to recover but the referee saw no fault and made the decision to allow the fight to continue.

The main event had Kevin Bozada, returning to the ring after a short lived retirement against Ken Keiser of Ontario, Canada. Keiser, who is mainly a muay thai fighter, came out landing hard kicks. Bozada stayed calm and worked to different angles to land punches. Bozada also showed that he has added a lot of kicks to his training. The first round went to Bozada.
In round 2, Bozada was ready to go to work. After getting all the cobwebs out he started picking Keiser apart with his combinations and finally dropping Keiser late in the round with a left hook to the body. Bozada takes round 2.
In the final round Bozada was ending the fight one way... KNOCK OUT! Landing any punch that he wanted he put Keiser on the canvas again. Keiser beat the count and Bozada moved in like a lion after a wounded deer dropping Keiser again. This time the referee stepped in and called the fight. Bozada by Knock out.

The Heat Is On Fight Night
Merseyside Kickboxing - June 29th, 2003

IKF Barcelona, Liverpool, England: Once again the Barcelona, Liverpool puts on a Great night of Amateur Kick and Thai boxing. The original fight card a week prior to the show was blighted by injury/accidents with 3 fighters unable to fight, which reduce the fight card to eight. BUT what great fights, to entertain the crowd. Here are the bout by bout results below.

  1. Junior 3 X 1½ International Rules
Jay O'Connell, 24 Kg, Liverpool Hope Kb vs Danny Seary, 26.2 Kg, Kirkby T B, Liverpool: This was a great bout to start the show with two 8 year old's determined to win. Both fighters tried so hard that all three judges scored a draw between these to local lads.

  2. 3 X 2 International Rules
Kieron Burke 72.9 Kg, Merseyside Kb, Haydock vs Steven Moorland 73 Kg, Aberdeen, Scotland: This was a great fight between 2 novices. Burke had his first fight on the previous Barcelona show and it was the first time for Moorland, but you would not have known this as they competed like seasoned fighters. Moorland's original opponant pulled out a few days prior to the show due to and accident at work, which was to be a Thai boxing bout. Burke offered to take the fight and both camps agreed to change to International Rules, as Moorland had trained hard for the show, and Burke being a low kick fighter.
Round one - Moorland came out throwing good punches and inside thigh shots. Burke retaliated with good punch combinations and kicks to the left thigh of Moorland targeting the same area. First round to Burke.
Round 2, Moorland came forward closing down on Burke in the corner. For some reason Burke stayed in the corner, but came back with good kicks and punch combinations making the round even.
Round 3, both fighters wanted to win both throwing kick and punch combinations. As the round came to an end Burke's straight punches were on target catching Moorland. Burke took the final round on all 3 judges score cards. Result unanimous points decision win for Burke.

  3. Junior 3 X 1½ Full Contact
John Gilbert 47.3 Kg, Merseyside Kb, Liverpool vs Tahak Miah, 45.4 Kg, Don's & Fury, Coventry: The bout had been arranged as a low kick fight, but it would have been Miah first fight at low kicks. Gilbert experienced in both low kicks and full contact agreed to compete under full contact rules, it did not worry him as he loves to compete whatever the style.
Miah kicks were tremendous to his great flexibility, and seemed to be kicking for fun. This did not intimidate Gilbert as he came back with great punch combinations to the body and head, but just making the 6 kick rule.
Round 2, Gilbert's corner must have seen this with both Miah and Gilbert throwing a variety of kicks through out the round.
Round 3, Gilbert continued to push forward and with Miah tiring Gilbert appeared to be the stronger of the two winning the bout on a unanimous points decision.

  4. 3 X 2 Thai Boxing
Chris Bigden, 60.7 Kg, Ai Martial Arts, Cleveleys, Blackpool vs Brian Creighton, 58.5 Kg, Kirkby T B, Liverpool: Bigden & Creighton were fighting a return bout as they drew on the last occasion they fought. We are sure that both fighters had studied the video of their last bout as both fighters had different game plans this time. Both fighters fought determined to outwit the other, but it was not to be. They drew again! Both fighters need to have a couple of different opponents before meeting up again - a bout which we will all look forward too.

    Demonstration Thai Boxing
    Colin Farricker,
Liverpool Hope Kb vs Dean Robinson, Kirkby T B, Liverpool Robinson's opponant was injured, and we were informed just before the show. This was to be Robinson's first fight in the ring, and was obviously disappointed, so Farricker, current IKF champion, stepped in to do an excellent 3 round demonstration, allowing Robinson to show off his skills, and experience the ring in front of his home crowd.

  5. Junior 3 X 1½ International Rules
Marc Kieman, 54.7 Kg, Merseyside KB, Liverpool vs Kieron O'Brien, 52.9 Kg, Kirkby T B, Liverpool An excellent bout between to up and coming fighters. Both fighters had a wealth of punch and kick combinations, but Kieman just seemed to have the edge over O'Brien winning the bout on a unanimous points decision.

  6. 3 X 2 International Rules
Chris Dooley, 92.5 Kg, Merseyside Kb, Haydock vs Ross Pointon, 94.4 Kg, Burslam K B, Stoke on Trent: Everyone was looking forward to this bout with 2 heavyweights looking very fit, the first time for Dooley and Pointon with one fight under his belt. It was obvious from round one which techniques each fighter excelled at, Pointon with his punches and Dooley with his kicks. Pointon came out with some great punch combinations catching Dooley. Dooley retaliated with great kicks, taking Pointon off his feet sending him crashing to the floor. This continued through the second round, and took a brave referee, Mike Fowles, to step in for the breaks between these strong determined lads. This was a close fight, but Dooley's kicks in the 3rd round began to pay off, forcing Pointon to clinch. This gave Dooley the edge in the final round winning on a majority decision by one point. This will make a great return fight, maybe on Pointon's own turf next time

    .
  7. 3 X 2 International Rules
Darren Schofield, 63.3 Kg, Ai Martial Arts, Cleveleys, Blackpool vs Matty Smith, 65.7 Kg, Liverpool Martial Arts. Both fighters were up for a great fight, and started in the first round throwing great kicks and punch combinations. The round was scored even by 2 judges. The second round started at the same pace, but Smith began to emerge the stronger fighter, with Schofield starting to run out of steam. Following a combination of punches and kicks from Smith, Schofield stopped exhausted, and unable to continue. TKO 1 minute 4 seconds into the 2nd round a win for Smith.

  8. 3 X 2 International Rules
Mike Gore, 73 Kg, Merseyside Kb, Haydock vs Anthony Owens, 70.5 Kg, Liverpool KB Academy. Both fighters having had one fight each, with both being stopped in their first fight started the 1st round a bit apprehensively. This was not to last long, as Owens' up the pace taking the fight to Gore, who seemed to spend the round defending and weighing up his opponent. Round one went to Owens.
Round 2 carried on much the same way, Gore just did not seem to have the urgency to take the fight to Owens. Owens being quite happy to pick off his opponant at his pace, taking the second round.
Round 3. This time Gore realizing he was behind by 2 rounds, started to take the fight to Owens putting him under pressure, but unfortunately it was too late, the round went to Gore, but Owens won on a Majority decision.

Carter Williams
Wins Another Tournament!

But Who Knew About It?

We here at the IKF find is a shame when a fighter such as Carter Williams (Right), or better yet FIGHTER'S fight their hearts out and in the end, no one hears about it. Such is the case with a recent event held in Villa Park, Illinois, USA where 8 American Heavy and Super Heavyweights hooked up to "Walk The Walk" for a major Grand Prize. A prize larger than May's K-1 event. "$10,000.00!"

However, despite the final prize, as we mentioned, "Who knew about it?". As one person recently wrote of his accounts of the event, "Promoters, Too Famous Inc. were the latest addition to the Hall of Fame of failed events. With a marketing strategy lifted from the storyline of Filed of Dreams, they built it.........but nobody came." This was a shame considering those who fought in the event. The same person went on to say, "The fact that the event suffered two major delays before beginning did not seem to anger the two hundred or so hard-core fans that actually found out about the event and then actually found their way to the venue."

Although few were there to witness it, we here at the IKF would like to congratulate Carter on yet another Tournament win and wish him the best of luck in future bouts. We would also like to give credit to those other fighters who fought and received no recognition. Here were the results of the 8 man tournament, bout by bout.

(Canada) defeated Mark Miller (Pennsylvania) by 2 knockdown rule.
