Pete and Pam Peterson did it again with their fourth Roundkick Rumble. The event honoring America's Troops was held at the Carroll, Iowa National Guard Armory to a near sell out crowd. New and experienced fighters from Iowa, Illinois and Minnesota displayed their talents in several exciting Muay Thai and International Rules matches that left the crowd anticipating the next card. Here are the nights results below:

1. Men's Amateur IR Super Heavyweight Exhibition
   Kenny Hansen, Audubon, IA, USA (0-0, 252, 6'0", 19, 08-02-86, Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178) versus Jared Hansen, Audubon, IA, USA (0-1, 252, 6'0", 18, 08-23-87, Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178).
   The first fight of the night was an exhibition match between brothers Kenny and Jared Hansen. Kenny opened the bout with a strong roundkick to Jared's side and then an exchanged of punches and kicks ensued. It was easy to tell the brothers knew each others' moves and were not afraid to take a swing at each other. In the second round Jared began throwing the stronger techniques. As the round continued Kenny dug deep and began generating more power. Both could take a hit and were more concerned with striking each other than not getting hit. In the final round there were courteous exchanges and either one could take the round. Kenny backed Jared across the ring until Jared circled back and moved Kenny around the ring. It was a solid display to open the fight card.
   
   
2. Junior Boy's Amateur MT Bantamweight
   Miguel Cruz, Hinsdale, IL, USA (3-1, 123, 13, 08-24-92, Ricardo Perez, (630) 640-2686) defeated Chad Jones, Cedar Falls, IL, USA (0-1, 120, 5'3", 15, Andy Uhlenkamp, (712) 790-7120) by TKO.
   In the only junior bout of the night, Miguel Cruz met Chad Jones. At the opening bell, Jones came across the ring swinging with a fury intending to overwhelm Cruz and end the fight early. Cruz was able to maintain his composure and responded by knocking Jones down with a punching combination that earned Jones an 8 count. Jones, undiscouraged, rebounded quickly and again attacked ferociously. However, Jones overzealousness was countered by Cruz's experience as Cruz lands several unanswered punches to Jones earning Jones another 8 count. Jones again fought back hard and bravely, but in the end he was defeated as referee Carl Duncan stopped the bout at 1:06 in the first round.
   
   
3. Women's Amateur MT Welterweight
   Ann Graff, Carroll, IA, USA (3-2, 146.5, 5'8", 18, 10-12-87, Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178) defeated Sarah Kennedy, Minneapolis, MN, USA (0-1 152, 5'6", 30, 01-09-76, Diana Rathborne, (612) 821-6800) by split decision 28-29, 29-28 & 29-28.
   The first of two women's matches of the evening demonstrated the skills of two strong ladies. Graff struck first, but Kennedy struck hard using both hands and knees in the opening round. Graff stayed focused on the center line of Kennedy's body and head. Kennedy preferred to fight in the clench as Graff had to adjust her positioning inside due to her height before she was able to fight in close. Both Graff and Kennedy were ready to start the second round. After a clumsy opening, Graff was able to use more of her strategy to score. Undaunted, Kennedy kept with her attack plan of trying to get inside and working the clench. Graff was able to keep Kennedy at a distance for long periods of time. Both fighters recognized their strengths and worked for a win. In the final round, both fighters continued working hard and didn't let fatigue get in their way. Kennedy pushed in close as Graff tried to keep her at bay with jabs. Kennedy then began working Graff's legs but lowered her arms allowing Graff to land a strong right to Kennedy. Kennedy responded by forcing a clench. The fighters were tired but in the final 10 seconds they were able to turn up the heat and empty their tanks. Graff won the split decision.
   
   
4. Men's Amateur IR Light Cruiserweight
   Michael Hynes, Iowa City, IA USA (1-0, 185, 5'10", 25, 02-16-1980) defeated Able Mohaffy, Des Moines, IA, USA (1-1, 186, 5'11", 27, 08-08-1978, Matt Finch, (515) 238-7619) by TKO.
   This fight started and ended with a lot of energy. Both fighters were fit and intense. Hynes moved quickly around the ring throwing fast strikes and Mohaffy covered and countered. Mohaffy appeared to be testing Hynes's techniques as Hynes was trying to wear down Mohaffy with multiple punches. Hynes was able to back Mohaffy into the corner with several unanswered punches before Mohaffy was given an 8 count. In the second round, Mohaffy and Hynes exchanged blows, strong punching to the body leaned Mohaffy forward offering his head to Hynes. Mohaffy was overwhelmed by the strikes to his head and was given another 8 count. Hynes was energized, but Mohaffy still had some fight in him and another exchanged occurred. In the end, Hynes again backed Mohaffy into the corner and Mohaffy couldn't respond. Referee Mike Storm stopped the fight at 1:18 in the second round.
   
   
5. Men's Amateur MMA Exhibition
   Eric Schroeder, Coon Rapids, IA, USA (1-0, 186, 25, 03-31-1980, Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178) vs Mike Duffy, Minneapolis, MN, USA (0-1, 196, 31, 01-01-1975, Diana Rathborne, (612) 821-6800).
   The second exhibition of the night opened with quick jabs followed by a failed takedown attempt by Schroeder. Schroeder was able to land two good punches to Duffy's head getting the crowd excited. Duffy recovered while in a clench at the rope. The exhibition was stopped at 2:13 of the first round.
   
   
6. Men's Amateur IR Super Middleweight
   Aaron Olsen, Breda, IA, USA (0-1, 168, 6'0", 15, 04-02-1990 Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178) was defeated by Will Buelow, Minneapolis, MN, USA (1-0, 165.5 6'0", 21, 06-11-1987, Nat McIntyre) by TKO.
   Both first time fighters began round 1 confidently with solid skills and good ring generalship. Buelow pushed Olsen back with a kick to the abs. Olsen, a little shaken, received an 8 count after getting punched in the face, turning away and not fighting. In the second round, Olsen evaded a roundkick and delivered one of his own to Buelow only to be countered by a Buelow sidekick. Olsen aggressively tried to make up for the 8 count in the first round. However in his attempt he often walked into or reached in too far as Buelow was able to land superior body shots. Eventually, Buelow delivered a front kick to the abs which doubled Olsen over and lead to an 8 count. A second 8 count was given to Olsen when a final bodyshot convinced referee Carl Duncan to stop the fight at 1:47 in the second round.
   
   
7. Women's Amateur MT Light Welterweight
   Marie Sturm, Lake View, IA, USA (1-0, 140 5'4", 23, 01-03-1983, Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178) defeated Katie Vogel, Minneapolis, MN, USA (3-2, 140, 5'6", 26, 11-03-1979, Greg Nelson, (763) 560-5696) by split decision 28-29, 30-27 & 29-28.
   The second women's fight of the card also started out strong. Vogel tried to use her reach advantage to keep Sturm away and then throw an overhand right. Sturm was able to swipe Vogel's hand out of the way and respond with upper cuts and jabs to the body and head. As the round continued, the fight got closer with short clenches with a lot of knees. Sturm was able to stop Vogel with push kicks twice before the bell. During the second round Vogel used her height more effectively and attacked to the head. Sturm answered with a leg attack. Vogel fought solidly even though the crowd shouted "Roo" in support of their hometown favorite. Round three began fast with Sturm landing a spinning backfist to Vogel's head. Vogel then tried to regain control with knees in the clench. Combinations dwindled to single techniques until half way through the final round when both fighters turned up the gas. The last 10 seconds left both ladies fighting for the win. Katie Vogel and Marie Sturm fought in what was the closest and most evenly matched fight of the night, the split decision was given to Sturm.
   
   
8. Men's Amateur IR Light Heavyweight
   Jeff Cunningham, Boone, IA, USA (1-2, 174.5, 28, 07-30-1977, Pete Peterson, (712) 792-8178) defeated Langdon Stahle, Minneapolis, MN, USA (0-1, 171, 5'11", 30, 08-23-1975, Rudy Rogers) by TKO.
   The fight opened with a flurry of punches by both fighters with Cunningham's being more effective. Stahle was knocked down and received an 8 count. Again, a flurry of punches ensued and again Stahle dropped to his knees from the strength of Cunningham's strikes. Referee Carl Duncan stopped the fight at :33 in round one.
   
   
9. Men's Amateur MT Heavyweight
   Rudy Rogers, Minneapolis, MN, USA (4-3, 210 5'8", 34, Rick Faye (612) 821-8600) defeated Trirata Earmsmuth, Chicago, IL, USA (1-3, 210 6'0", 34, 04-06-1971, Kafnjak Sor Pleoncait (708) 895-6542) by split decision 29-28, 29-28 & 28-29.
   This was a much anticipated fight as Earmsmuth's intensive Muay Thai training was matched against Rogers' variety of art styles. The first round began slowly with both fighters wary of the others power. Earmsmuth started with kicks to the body as Rogers attempted to trap and counter. Earnsmuth threw a round kick followed by several jumping punches landing on Rogers' head. Earmsmuth continued to be the initial attacker throughout the round as Rogers used his evasion skills to counter attack. In the second round, Rogers took kicks from Earmsmuth and was able to get inside to land several blows to Earmsmuth body. Earmsmuth stopped the onslaught by establishing a clench. This pair used knees in the clench to demonstrate the best muay thai fighting of the evening. After the clench was broken, three front kicks by Earmsmuth grazed Rogers as Rogers parried and countered right punches to the body. Rogers controlled the remainder of the second round by staying just inside Earmsmuth's optimum range leaving Earmsmuth's attacks ineffective. The final round opened with Earmsmuth landing a strong leg kick. As Earmsmuth threw a roundkick to Rogers' head, Rogers kicked Earmsmuth supporting leg. Again, Rogers was able to diffuse Earmsmuth's superior height advantage with blocks and evasions. Rogers was able to land a kick to the body and a hook to the head before a clench and the end of the round. The win was given to Rogers in a split decision.
   
   
10. Men's Amateur MT Light Middleweight
    Jason Skow, Decatur, IL, USA (4-1, 161.5, 5'6", 21, 09-05-1984, Bradd Bragg, ( ? ) 429-5508) defeated Andy Uhlenkamp, Cedar Falls, IA, USA (2-3, 159.5, 6'0", 19, 05-09-1986, (712) 790-7180) by TKO.
    The main event for the evening was a rematch from a March 2005 blood bath. During the intermission before the fight, a video of the previous fight between the two was shown to the crowd where Uhlenkamp was victorious. The crowd expected nothing less for the rematch. The fight opened with Uhlenkamp throwing a front kick to Skow's body and Skow having to get up from a flash knock down. In the clench, Uhlenkamp used powerful knees to slow down Skow. Unfettered after the clench, Skow bridged the gap in their distance with leg kicks and hooks eventually causing another clench. Once in the clench, Uhlenkamp maintained the necessary room to throw knees to Skow's body. This scenario repeated before Skow was able to throw numerous punches to Uhlenkamp's head. Uhlenkamp stayed in the game with leg kicks. It appeared the crowd's hope for repeat battle would happen. Unfortunately, Uhlenkamp complained of dizziness and blurry vision before the start of the second round and was not able to continue. Skow won the fight by TKO. The judges scorecards showed two judges giving the first round to Uhlenkamp and one judge for Skow. We will look forward to Skow vs. Uhlenkamp 3.

WOW! is what sums up the Midwest Fight Fest this past Saturday night. Shamrock Promotions rocked the house at the Stratford Inn once again. In the first of many fights to be held at the Stratford Inn, the crowd was entertained. Starting out with the boxing match to start the night with a big knock out, the rest of the fights followed. New comer Adam Cella (Finney's) made a big impression for his first time in the ring, scoring a big TKO. Up and comer Titus Taylor made quick work of his opponent, and recorded another win for his record. Defiantly keep your eye on him! To pick one fight to really talk bout would not be fair to the rest. Every fight was action packed and full of emotion. The unlikely big fight of the night, was the exhibition between Kevin Engel and Dusty Miller. The fight was back and forth both landing great combinations and counter punches, leaving the crowd to ask themselves... if this was a exhibition how would it look if they fought a regular fight. "Midwest Fight Fest"
St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Tonight, Shamrock Promotions and Finney's Championship Kickboxing brings another Midwest Fight Fest to St. Louis. This fight will be a change from previous events. The venue has changed and kickboxing has resurfaced on the fight card. The Stratford Inn is where the action takes place. The doors open at 6:PM, with the fights starting at 7:30 PM.

This event has been sold out for 3 weeks, and is said to be the second hottest ticket in town this weekend, second behind the Friday night Rolling Stones Concert. The fight card has presented some problems for Match Maker and Promoter Jesse Finney. A team had issues getting a vehicle and Early Friday morning (1:AM), a team from Tulsa, Oklahoma called to inform him that they had car troubles and were 4 hours away. In a late night scramble of phone calls to hotels, rental cars companies, and even the Greyhound, Finney was able to get them transportation to the weigh-ins later that same day. Thanks to Conan (Scott Mincey) for all his help and stepping up.

The fight card is packed with action. 1 Boxing, 5 NHB, and 5 Kickboxing. It is true, Kickboxing has made a comeback in the St. Louis fight scene and is looking to stay that way for the future. A couple of notable fighters seeing action are NHB Veteran "Mean" Mike Green, New Comer Titus Taylor, and in a special exhibition match will be Kevin "The Hitman" Engel. AKP Press: January 24th, 2006, San Francisco, CA, USA: We recently had an e-interview with Christian Gonzales. We ask him a few questions on how he felt about his upcoming bout with 2004 IKF North American Champ Nathan Smith of Modesto, CA next Friday night February 3rd? His answer was clear and precise "Losing is Not an Option!" Moreover, after speaking with one of his managers Ken Baldwin, it was clear that the entire Fairtex Team is taking this fight serious. They are pushing the event very hard in their huge organization and word has it - they will show up in big numbers to support their fighter! They know that big support from screaming friends and family will be a big motivator for Christian and are taking no chances of fallen short on this one! There are a lot of questions to be answered and no matter what is said here, the truth will be told when these two combatants step into the ring!

Its evident in reading the answers to the questions below that Christian is very confident about winning his big fight at the Radisson Hotel come Friday, February 3rd! Clearly in his comments below, he does not feel that he really lost the first bout with Smith and is coming to prove his point with a subtle prediction of a knocking Smith out! His 'take no prisoners attitude' is apparent in his training says Baldwin "He is training very hard and we have him wrapped in a bubble to make sure he is there and ready to give 100% to bring the IKF West Coast title back to San Francisco!"

Rumor has it that this fight has gotten so much hype, that is may be moved to the semi main event of the evening behind pro boxing sensation Christian Cruz of Sacramento, CA but that remains to be seen. Either way, fight fans should be prepared to see a war! The comments below are the exact words of Gonzales with little or no editing.

ROCK THE HOUSE!

When the smoke cleared this past Friday night, it was clear that everyone at Z's "Clash Of The Titans" at the Crystal Lake, Holiday Inn, in Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA knew they saw one of the greatest 12 rounds of Kickboxing they had ever saw. For those who saw Bobby Campbell (Right) of Long Island, New York, USA (Pro: 12-3-1 - Amateur: 16-5) and Tommy Bach (Left) of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, USA (Pro: 14-2-2/4 - Amateur: 8-3/3) go "Toe to Toe" for the first time it was Awesome.

However, for those who saw their first meeting (A draw decision), many of them could not rank one meeting over the other. "These two were just as exciting the last time they met!" said IKF Ring Announcer Kieron Davis. Davis, like many in the ballroom had the pleasure of seeing both meetings between these two top fighters. In fact, there is already discussion of a possible THIRD meeting, and if it happens, do your best to make it because it will be a shame to miss it!

So what did you miss? well for starters, you missed Bobby Campbell throwing over 120 kicks over 12 rounds while Bach returned with just over 100. While Campbell was more busy with kicks, it was Bach who returned back whit his boxing skills to match the explosive kicker Campbell. Although Campbell threw an average of 14 kicks per round over the first 3 rounds, as round 4 came around his kick pace slowed down allowing Bach to move in with his own combinations. By the end of 3, Campbell lead on all 3 judges scorecards 29-28. Bach came back in rounds 4 and 5 to bring the judges scores to 48-47 Campbell on one judges card and 48-47 Bach on the other two judges cards. Campbell was able to make it all even by the end of round 6 as all three judges had their total scores 57-57.

Round 7 was a great round for both and the judges cards proved it. One giving the round to Bach, the other Campbell while the third judge had them even at 10-10. Campbell stayed with Bach until round 8 where he was busy handling Bach's combinations. In rounds 8, 9 and 10 we saw an advantage and it was Bach who seemed to have more flurries and stronger combinations in these three rounds that placed him ahead on the cards after 10. Judge Tony Storm of Nebraska had him up 96-94. Judge Shawn McCarthy of Wisconsin had Bach up 96-95 and Judge Mike Storm of Nebraska had him up 97-93.

Watching them over the entire fight, Bach seemed to grow stronger round by round where as Campbell seemed to have explosive spurts at different intervals of the bout. Round 11 was one of those rounds where Campbell turned it up again winning 2 of the 3 judges nods. However Bach put an end to Campbell's strong finish as he himself turned it up again to win round 12 on all three judges cards. In the end, Bach successfully defended his IKF world Title over a STRONG Challenger, Bobby Campbell by unanimous decision. Judge Tony Storm of Nebraska had Bach for the win 115-113. Judge Shawn McCarthy of Wisconsin had Bach 116-113 and Judge Mike Storm of Nebraska had Bach at 116-112.

It doesn't get much closer than that. If you saw it, you would see why some are talking about the THIRD meeting of these two. The jury is still out for Bach who had talked about this bout being the end to his great fighting career. However, if the money is right, we may see them together again because one thing is for sure, Campbell made it clear that HE'S IN! So the only question is, "Who will face Campbell for that IKF World Title he has been so close to in TWO back to back WARS!"

     Jeff Ostrinski of Buffalo Grove, Illinois, USA (1-0/1, 172.2, 5'10", 27, Burt Witte) took the second round win over
     Emil Goldowski of Palatine, Illinois, USA (0-1/0, 167.6, 5'11", 21, Kyle McElroy) due to Goldowski being disqualified for grabbing Ostrinski around the legs. Goldowski had already taken a standing 8 count in round 1.
     
     
  6. PRO FCR Fernando Callaros of El Paso, Texas, USA (Pro: 30-8/16, Am: 10-1/7, 5'8", 180.8, 31, Self) defeated Danny Griffin of Davenport, Iowa, USA (Pro: 2-1/0, Am: 7-1/4, 179, 5'11", Rob Zbilski) by unanimous decision 48-46, 50-43 and 49-45.
     • Callaros was scheduled to face Charles Baron between 150 - 155 lbs. However, Callaros had not lost the weight thinking he and Baron were not confirmed. Coming in at 180 took Baron out of the bout and forced matchmaker Rob Zbilski to find a fighter for Callaros or Baron the night before the event. In the end, Zbilski confirmed Griffin on less than 24 hours notice.
     • Griffin had not fought in over 2 years. Ours cheers go out to Griffin for stepping up on such short notice to help the show. He was the 2001 IKF USA National Tournament Champion. At the Tournament he had defeated Chris Terry of Phoenix, Arizona in the opening bracket by unanimous decision, 30-16, 30-26 & 30-26 to advance to round 2. In round 2 he defeated Shannon Hudson by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 & 30-27 to advance to the Final. in the Championship bout Griffin defeated Zach Day of Georgia, USA by unanimous decision, 29-28, 30-27 & 29-27 to win the 2001 IKF FCR national Amateur Super Middleweight USA Tournament Title.
     • Callaros is still the IKF Pro IR Super Welterweight World Champion. He won his title on June 26th, 2000 when he defeated Miguel Reyes of Tijauana, Baja CA, Mexico, by unanimous decision, 96-92, 97-91 and 97-91 in Sacramento CA, USA. He is scheduled to fight for another organizations World title this May in England against George Pattison.

Ott's Grand Opening A Big Hit!

This past Saturday, January 21st, IKF Pro San Shou World Champion Rudi Ott (Right) held the Grand Opening of his Unlimited Kickboxing Training Center by hosting an exciting IKF sanctioned smoker featuring Muay Thai, San Shou, and MMA bouts. With over 300 spectators in attendance the Bay Areas top teams all showed up in full force to support Rudi in his new venture.

Team USA showed that they are one of the top Muay Thai teams with great performances by all of their fighters. American Kickboxing Academy showed its versatility with strong showing competing in Muay Thai and MMA. Cung Le's Ush Fight Team also showed its versatility and excellence with fighters competing in each style; Muay Thai, San Shou, and MMA. Omie Kung Fu and Reys Muay Thai participated with a strong showing as well.

Rudi also announced the inception of his team the South Bay Fight Club and looks forward to producing new talent and champions. The night was a fantastic beginning for the Champions new roll as Coach and Teacher. When asked about his future fight plans he remarked, "I look forward to getting in the ring and getting my 30th win this year. If it will be San Shou or MMA I don't know but the gym and my students are the priority now. My fight career will have to work itself around the greater need. At this point everything is coming together so we will just have to see!"

Rudi went on to thank his family for love and support, his Coach Cung Le for his guidance, and the IKF for the titles he won.

The British Are Coming
Bimpson & Fowles Plan To Bring A LARGE Team From England To The
IKF World Classic!

IKF European Director Alby Bimpson (Left) and IKF European Coordinator Mike Fowles (Right) have told us they have put together one of the strongest British teams to take on the rest of the World at the 2006 IKF World Classic Tournament in Iowa, USA. Alby told us, "Don't think we are just putting together a scrap team because we are bringing the best IKF competitors from our shores with us!"

Along with Trainer/Promoter Mike Fowles, Bimpson's team will also include Master Ronnie "Machine Gun" Green. Green in also a 5 Time World Kickboxing Champion. "I can assure you we are not coming to see the sights. We come to win!" Said Bimpson.

The team will consist of between 20 and 30 competitors in all styles and maybe even more. Bimpson told us they are all looking forward to seeing their American allies, and building on a the great friendship our countries have. See you all at the IKF World Classic.

In addition to Bimpson's Team we have also received notice that other England Teams plan to attend. These others will add to World Kickboxing Champion Trevor Ambrose's Norway Team and other Teams from across Europe who have verbally confirmed their attendance to the 2006 IKF World Classic Tournament!

I sat in my seat of the Boeing 767 waiting for everyone to hurry and stow their carry-ons and grab a seat so we could start what I was sure to be a long, uneventful flight home.
With the huge capacity and slow moving people taking their time to stuff luggage far too big for the overhead and never paying much attention to holding up the growing line behind them, I simply shook my head knowing that this flight was not starting out very well. I was anxious to get home to see my loved ones so I was focused on my issues and just felt like standing up and yelling for some of these clowns to get their act together.
I knew I couldn't say a word so I just thumbed thru the "Sky Mall" magazine from the seat pocket in front of me. You know it's really getting rough when you resort to the over priced, useless sky mall crap to break the monotony. With everyone finally seated, we just sat there with the cabin door open and no one in any hurry to get us going although we were well past the scheduled take off time.
No wonder the airline industry is in trouble I told myself.
Just then, the attendant came on the intercom to inform us all that we were being delayed. The entire plane let out a collective groan. She resumed speaking to say "We are holding the aircraft for some very special people who are on their way to the plane and the delay shouldn't be more than 5 minutes."
The word came after waiting six times as long as we were promised that I was finally going to be on my way home.
Why the hoopla over "these" folks? I was expecting some celebrity or sport figure to be the reason for the hold up... Just get their butts in a seat and let's hit the gas I thought.
The attendant came back on the speaker to announce in a loud and excited voice that we were being joined by several U.S. Marines returning home from Iraq!!!

Just as they walked on board, the entire plane erupted into applause. The men were a bit taken by surprise by the 340 people cheering for them as they searched for their seats. They were having their hands shook and touched by almost everyone who was within an arm's distance of them as they passed down the aisle. One elderly woman kissed the hand of one of the Marines as he passed by her.
The applause, whistles and cheering didn't stop for a long time. When we were finally airborne, I was not the only civilian checking his conscience as to the delays in "me" getting home, finding my easy chair, a cold beverage and the remote in my hand.
These men had done for all of us and I had been complaining silently about "me" and "my" issues I took for granted the everyday freedoms I enjoy and the conveniences of the American way of life.
I took for granted that others had paid the price for my ability to moan and complain about a few minutes delay to "me" while those Heroes were going home to their loved ones.

I attempted to get my selfish outlook back in order and minutes before we landed, I suggested to the attendant that she announce over the speaker a request for everyone to remain in their seats until our heroes were allowed to gather their things and be first off the plane. The cheers and applause continued until the last Marine stepped off and we all rose to go about our too often taken for granted everyday freedoms.

I felt proud of them. I felt it an honor and a privilege to be among the first to welcome them home and say "Thank You for a job well done." I vowed that I will never forget that flight nor the lesson learned. I can't say it enough, THANK YOU to those Veterans and active servicemen and women who may read this and a prayer for those who cannot because they are no longer with us.

The first Friday night of the new year, found Pure Force "The Beginning" rocking Tinley Park, Illinois, USA with a night of sensational IKF kickboxing and ISCF MMA matches!

HCExtreme promoters, Ron Hill, James Hill, and Brian Thompson began 2006 with a BANG! ALL 13 fights were nothing short of awesome! I have seen many, many events, and this one was right up there with the best of them. Great job guys!!

1. IKF Kickboxing, Full Contact Rules, Super Middleweight Division
   Greg Johnson (0-4, 6'1", 172, 29, 8/13/76, HCX Mixed Martial Arts, Joliet IL) VS Scott Bresnahan (1-1, 5'10", 167, 27, 8/1/78, Mark Caruso, Romeoville IL)
   Johnson opened up round one pressing the action forward. He was throwing wild hooks but landing them. Both fighters were kicking actively and had no problems filling their requirements. Johnson landed a few hard shots forcing IKF referee, Al Wichgers, to give Bresnahan a standing 8 count.
   In round two, Bresnahan turned the table on Johnson, giving him a standing 8 and by the end of the round, Johnson's tank had run empty. Bresnahan took advantage of the position and continued to score. This fight was stopped at the end of Round Two.
   Bresnahan won by TKO.
   
   
2. ISCF MMA Light Heavyweight Division
   Joshua Langer (0-1, 6'1", 185, 24, 1/7/81, Independent, Chicago IL) VS Tony Everett (1-0, 6'1", 205, 38, 3/15/67,Self, Round Lake Beach IL)
   Everett shot in and took Langer down early in round one and quickly had him in a choke but Langer was wiry and escaped. They were at a stalemate on the ground so ISCF referee Al Wichgers stood them back up. Both fighters were very active during this round, and the end of the round gave Everett another chance as Langer tried ending the fight with a "Ground & Pound" from the mount position.
   Round two gave the excited crowd a little stand up action before Everett scored the takedown. Everett got Langer in his guard and locked on an arm bar, forcing Langer to tap out.
   Everett won by submission at 1:49 of round 2.
   
   
3. IKF Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Super Welterweight Division
   Nam Do (1-1, 5'10", 153, 23, 01/20/82, Ryan Blackorby, Peoria IL) VS Matt Determan (1-0, 5'9", 154, 21, 12/1/84, Andy Grahn, Brooklyn Center MN)
   Round One saw both fighters hesitant at first, feeling the other out. Determan opened with two very strong front kicks, and Do answered back with a well executed 6 count combo. The rest of the round was non-stop with Do a little busier and scoring more.
   In round two, Determan turned it around with constant forward pressure. Both fighters looked awesome; great display of Muay Thai skills! Determan scored a solid kick to the head which seemed to daze Do, but did Do came back strong, not requiring any count from the ref.
   Round three was more of the same. Determan proved to be a little stronger then Do and landed several knees and hard kicks. Do still fired off 6 count combos, but Determan was the stronger fighter this match.
   Determan won by unanimous decision, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28.
   
   
4. IKF Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Featherweight Division
   Kyle Dietrich (1-5, 5'8", 127, 17, 9/11/88, Pekin Martial Arts, Pekin IL) VS Chad Monyelle (17-4, 5'7", 123, 16, 11/8/89, Craig Monyelle, Beloit WI)
   Great fight! Dietrich was looking to even the score with Monyelle this night! Dietrich came out the first round connecting flying jump kicks and following them up with jabs and crosses, but Monyelle wasn't going to stand toe to toe. Monyelle pulled Dietrich into a clinch several times, unloading knees to the body and legs. Monyelle's knees won him this round of Muay Thai on the judges cards.
   In round two, Monyelle was trying to make sure and not leave it up to the judges. Landing a spinning back kick to the body of Dietrich should have affected Dietrich, but Dietrich kept coming and continued to pressure Monyelle with busy hands and foot combos. Dietrich evened the scorecards with this round.
   Round three told the tale. Both fighters continued to exchange punches and kicks until Monyelle, seeing an opening, scored two unanswered spinning back fists, one of them forcing a standing 8 count on Dietrich, cementing the win of this fight. 29-27, 29-27, 29-27.
   Note: I have seen Dietrich fight three times now, and each time he has fought either older or far more experienced opponents. Don't let the record fool you, this kid is going to go far, he has great potential and doesn't know the meaning of the word "quit".
   
   
5. ISCF MMA, Welterweight Division
   Leo Perez (1-10, 6'0", 170, 27, 4/21/78, Charles Wilson, Plainfield IL) VS Adam Kelso (3-0, 5'10", 170, 21, 1/30/84, Don Richard, Holly MI)
   Both fighters went back and forth on the ground in this battle. Perez had Kelso in a triangle choke and an ankle lock two different times, only to have Kelso reverse each time. This was great action, as both fighters exchanged attempts at various submissions, but at 3:52 minutes of round one,
   Kelso won by submission as Perez tapped out.
   
   
6. IKF Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Women's Welterweight Division
   Lisa Dzik (0-2, 5'7", 145, 26, 5/3/79, Self/Brian Strick, Madison Heights, MI) VS Katie Young (1-0, 5'9", 149, 20, 9/15/85, Andy Grahn, Brooklyn Center MN)
   Dzik and Young both went after each other right away. Dzik had quick hands and flurried well, but Young was too powerful. Young pressed forward landing heavy hands and hard kicks throughout the round, not giving Dzik a chance to answer.
   Round two was much of the same. Young landed several more punches and a solid kick to Dzik's head, resulting in a standing 8 count for Dzik. After the 8 count, Dzik acknowledged she was done and IKF referee, Al Wichgers, stopped the bout.
   Young won by TKO at .49 of round two.
   
   
7. ISCF MMA, Welterweight Division
   LaQuinn Swift (1-0, 5'8", 160, 20, 1/17/85, Joseph Billups, Chicago IL) VS Darren Matthews (2-2, 5'7", 167, 18, 1/8/87, Bryce Franck, Rockford IL)
   Matthews went for the take down right away but Swift reversed it once they hit the ground and ended up in Matthews guard. Matthews had Swift in a guillotine choke, a triangle choke, and an arm bar as various times throughout the round and Swift escaped all three, ending the round with a body slam on Matthews.
   Round two the action was just as intense. Very fast paced and exciting! Swift was deducted one point for throwing a knee to the head, which isn't allowed under the rules of the Illinois Athletic Commission. Round three gave fight fans a little more stand up action and Matthews landed a kick to Swift's face, bloodying his nose. At the end of round three, all three judges saw the fight as a draw and it went into a fourth round, much to the pleasure of the crowd!
   Swift went to work fast in round four and got Matthews back. He unloaded numerous head and body punches.
   Swift controlled position the majority of this round and earned a unanimous decision 38-37, 38-37, 38-37.
   
   
8. IKF Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Super Welterweight Division
   James Lyons (6-0, 5'11", 151, 23, 2/13/82, Ryan Blackorby, Peoria IL) VS Timothy Riordan (4-5, 5'10", 154, 21, 4/17/84, Kevin Dulli, Whitewater WI)
   Lyons set the tempo from the sound of the bell and controlled the round with solid head kicks, and 6 count punch combinations to Riordan's head and body.
   In round two, nothing changed. Riordan landed a couple of punches to Lyons head before being overwhelmed by Lyon's constant pressure. Riordan received a standing 8 count in this round.
   The last round was again, controlled by Lyon's great ring generalship. Riordan began dropping his hands to taunt Lyons, and Lyons continued to score and earned an unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26, 30-26.
   
   
9. ISCF MMA, Lightweight Division
   Nate Weitzel (0-1, 5'10", 147, 27, 11/27/78, Independent, Roscoe IL) VS Charles Wilson (3-0, 6'0", 151, 36, 12/16/69, Gia Wilson, Plainfield IL)
   This bout ended fairly quickly. Wilson managed to get control of Weitzel's back and throw several hard punches and palm strikes to Weitzel's head and body. One of them caused an eye injury The ring doctor stopped the fight at 1:17 of round one after examining Weitzel's eye.
   Wilson won by TKO.
   
   
10. ISCF MMA, Middleweight Division
    Drew Reed (0-4, 6'1", 173, 20, 8/9/85, Self Trained, Pittsfield IL) VS Calem Willis (3-3, 6'1", 173, 22, 8/1/83, Don Richard, Holly MI)
    Willis didn't waste any time this fight. Willis took Reed down and unloaded a barrage of hands almost as quickly as the round started. The Ground and Pound tactics proved victorious as Reed tapped out at 1:49 minutes into the round,
    Leaving Willis the winner.
    
    
11. IKF Kickboxing, Muay Thai Rules, Light Cruiserweight Division
    Bryan Kovar (4-2, 6'0", 186, 23, 1/11/82, Ricardo Perez, Rolingbrook IL) VS David Eustice (2-0, 6'3", 185, 22, 5/25/83, Andy Grahn, Brooklyn Center MN)
    Eustice had a reach over Kovar which boosted the confidence of Eustice and make Kovar a bit hesitant to unload. Both fighters threw combos and solid leg kicks. Eustice controlled most of round one, but Kovar got in the last word with a solid head kick.
    Round two was in favor of Kovar as he came out more prepared. He landed several head kicks and decent combos.
    Wow, round three was non-stop exchanges. Kovar landed another head kick, but Eustice dominated in the clinch with solid knees.
    In the end, Eustice won a split decision 29-28, 29-28, 28-29.
    
    
12. ISCF MMA, Middleweight Division
    Ross Grady (1-2, 5'7", 182, 23, 11/10/82, HCX Mixed Martial Arts, Joliet IL) VS R.D. Tondini (0-3, 5'7", 185, 20, 4/5/85, Tony Everett, Joliet IL)
    This was another quick fight. Grady scored the takedown and began to set up Tondini for the arm bar and a couple of exchanges later, he got it.
    Grady won by tap out at 1:11 of round one.
    
    
13. MAIN EVENT: ISCF Pro MMA, Middleweight Division
    Billy Stamp (6-4, 6'1", 170, 26, 5/16/79, Ryan Blackorby, Peoria IL) VS Andre Garcia (1-3, 5'9", 170, 25, 4/16/80, Don Richard, Holly MI)
    Stamp proved to have superior ring generalship both standing up and on the ground. Stamp landed several leg kicks and punches before Garcia shot in for the single leg. Stamp reversed position. Both fighters attempted submissions and when Stamp was in the position to strike, he made sure to take advantage of it.
    Both rounds one and two went to Stamp as he controlled the tempo, landed more shots, and continued to advance position.
    In round three, Stamp must have known he was ahead, because it he seemed to coast and not advance, rather he held Garcia in his guard nearly the entire round. This round went to Garcia.
    Stamp was right and won an unanimous decision over Garcia, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

Cope
Retires Amateur Title

For the past three years IKF California Muay Thai Cruiserweight Champion Chris Cope had trained with one of the best fight teams around, Team Morello out of Santa Barbara California. Under Team Morello Cope had a perfect amateur fight record of 7 wins. Cope won his title in his last amateur fight in Fairfield, California on 26th, 2005 when he defeated David Denison of Santa Rosa, California by unanimous decision 39-37 on all 3 judges cards..

Since then Cope moved to San Diego and started training at a new facility where his plans now are to make the transition into mixed martial arts. "I feel that I am done with kickboxing and need to retire the belt in order to give others the chance to fight for it." Said Cope. "I feel this is the right decision, because my heart lies more in mma now. I appreciate all the memories that your sanction has provided me and I hope the best for everyone in the IKF."

We would like to wish Chris the best of Luck in his MMA fighting Career.

Triple F Kickboxing Teams Up
With Uppercut Promotions

Boxing Promotions company Uppercut Promotions in association with A.K. Promotions who specializes in Kickboxing entertainment will be presenting the Ultimate Boxing and Kickboxing Extravaganza on Friday, February 3rd. The event will showcase some of the best up and coming professional Boxers and amateur Kickboxers in the area!

The exciting show will be held at the beautiful Radisson Hotel at 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento, CA 95815. This is only one of three events planned for 2006 by Uppercut Promotions out of Roseville, CA. The Kickboxing portion will be headlined with the IKF Amateur West Coast Super Welterweight Title in the Muay Thai division which incorporates leg kicks and knees (elbows are not allowed in California) with exciting boxing techniques.

The bout will feature 2004 IKF/TKO North American Champion Nathan Smith (left) of Modesto, CA who will take on tough Christian Gonzales (right) of San Francisco, CA.

At the 2004 IKF/TKO North American Tournament Smith first defeated Mike Baldwin of Denver, Colorado, USA. Baldwin had won the vacant IKF US title on a regular event on April 3rd, 2004 in Denver, Colorado, USA. He defeated Ryan Farthingham of Wyoming, USA at :53 seconds into round 1 when Baldwin landed a high head kick on Farthingham for a first round KO. Smith next defeated David Knaggs of Monroe, Michigan, USA by KO at 1:34 of round 1 to win the 2004 MTR North American Welterweight Title. In his return to the 2005 IKF North American Tournament, Smith did not fare as well, losing in the first round to James Bleau of Marquette, Michigan, USA by unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards. Bleau went on to win the North American Title

Smith Vs Gonzales will be a rematch! In their first meeting, Smith pulled off a close decision but Gonzales is promising a different outcome this time around!
