Galway Black Dragon Kickboxer Eric Daly from Gort won the main event on Sunday at the "MIdsummer Madness" Full Contact Kickboxing promotion in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway. His win added the IKF All Ireland Light Welterweight belt to his collection with a unanimous decision over Waterfords Sean Barrett.

Both fighters weighed in at 64 kg (one pound under the limit). Although Barrett put up a brave show he never once troubled Daly who was in control throughout. Dalys next outing is in Gort on September 18th and negotiations are underway to fly in British Champion Howard Hogg from Cardiff for Dalys second defence of his IKF Super Lightweight 5 Nations Title after which he hopes to move back up to Light Welterweight.

IKF European Super Middleweight Champ Cathal Manning defeated Corks Toby Belmueller on Sunday by unanimous decision (Belmueller was penalized for failing to make the mandatory kick count in Round 3) and Manning is also moving up in weight to campaign at the Light Heavyweight division.

IKF Junior All Ireland Champ Charlie Ward was also in action in the Menlo Park and he took on Joshua Ferry from Dungannon in a scheduled 3 rounder. Ward was on fire and he had the fight fans buzzing with an electrifying display of kickboxing which saw Ferry retire on the stool after the second round giving Ward the victory.

Ezra Nolan from Clarenbridge took on Waterfords Sean O' Neill in an Eliminator fight for the IKF Irish Middleweight Title. O'Neills experience showed and he took the win and he will now face Kilkennyman Clayton Delaney in Kilkenny on September 26th for the title.

IKF Australia Loses
John Michael Davidson

From Kru Robert Wilesmith
IKF AUSTRALIA REPRESENTATIVE

As of 9.30pm Monday 30th August 2010, my best mate & work colleague John Michael Davidson (DOB: 18th March 1961) passed away quietly after having his life support switched off by his loving family bedside at Ipswich Hospital. Although the cause of death is "Suspicious", there will be an Autopsy & an investigation pending to confirm or deny a suspicion that he was injected a lethal dose of drugs by an "associate". The Brisbane Police will do a thorough investigation & the findings of the report are pending.

On Thursday 26th August 2010 at approximately 2pm, an Ambulance was called to a premises at Wolloongabba (Brisbane QLD) for an "Unconscious" 49yo male in his home. The caller "Mysteriously" took off from the scene of the crime & was never heard from again. John was found not breathing. The Ambulance officers revived him & immediately took him to the PAH Hospital emergency ICU ward. Within 24 hours, the Hospital discharged him & transferred him to Ipswich Hospital (Some 30km away) because of bed shortage. The man is dying, yet the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) decided to transfer John to another Hospital miles away, miles from his family & friends. The PAH Hospital commented: "This is procedure for when we are busy". The "Mysterious caller" is known to be residing in the Kangaroo Point area (an inner city suburb of Brisbane).

John Michael Davidson, survived by his 92yo mother & brother Stewart (From NSW), nephew Jesse from QLD & his love of his life Kitty (His partner). He was only just setting himself & Kitty up with a great life & family together. John also had a son years ago but his then estranged wife took him from John & was never heard from again.

John was an "Official" Judge for the IKF, with a passion for Martial Arts & self defense. He was looking at doing great things with the IKF, here in Queensland Australia & assist me at the IKF, South Pacific Head Office here in Brisbane. He loved to share his knowledge of Nutrition, as he completed his Masters Degree in a Victorian University. He also recently completed his Level One Sports Trainer & Advanced Sports tapping courses with SMA (Sports Medicine Australia). Its a tragedy to see someone with so much energy & knowledge to be taken away from us all. He had so much to give. He never asked for anything or expected anything in return when he did something good for someone. He was the most unselfish person I knew in recent years.

John, you are loved by all that you came in contact with, who learned by your words of wisdom. John was a gentleman, and although he didn't have much, what he "Did" have, he unselfishly shared with all those included in his life. He had an infectious laugh and a smile that would bring any sad person to laugh with him. He was a perfectionist who took pride in all tasks that he applied himself to. He loved his family, his good friends and his partner Kitty (Who he was setting up his future with).

John, the IKF, SMA, the sporting world, your family and friends are morning your loss today. You were like a brother to me, and my door was ALWAYS open for you. You will surely be missed. The Kickboxing, Sports Medicine & Nutrition industries have certainly lost an icon, a light that we ALL need in our lives on a daily basis. John my friend and brother, you are gone but not forgotten. I will miss our coffee's together at "The Cliff's Cafe" at Kangaroo Point Park. You are at peace my friend. One day soon I'll be there with you. Have a Cuppachino with 2 sugars waiting for me...

California Black Belt League...
Forges On...

The Merfuentas brothers have again laid down the foundation for their growing IKF Point Kickboxing divisions in their new Black Belt League that was held this past weekend in Salida, CA. Andy K's Muay Thai Lao located in Sacramento, CA brought his team out to support the BBL and it was much appreciated.

As a traditional Muay Thai Trainer, Andy K likes the concept of IKF/PKB and often brings his competitors to test their skills. With other gyms in attendance, fighters provided the fans with some excellent bouts demonstrating how fun and exciting IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing is and that it will continue to grow in this new league. With more promises of more fighters for future events, the BBL will become a hot league to test your skills in one of the fastest growing semi contact divisions in the country!

    • WRITE UP BY Jon Swenson ( jon@sharkspage.com ) - www.sharkspage.com
In the co-main event IKF North American Super Welterweight Champion Skylr Penna met IKF West Coast Champion Jon Pryor in a distinct clash of styles. The World Team USA trained Penna out of SF held a significant height and reach advantage, and he used it effectively to create distance and set up strikes early. In the first round Pryor had problems adapting to Skylr, who was landing effectively from outside and dominating the clinch.
The domination continued in the second round. Pryor checked several knees inside, but absorbed a lot of damage in the process. When there was an opening, Pryor tried to land hard, looping hooks to the head. The tide turned for Pryor in the third round despite a large San Francisco cheering section ringside. Pryor shortened up his punches, and started landing effective strikes of his own from outside. Several hard knees to the midsection finished off the third, earning the Sacramento native his first round on the Sharkspage scorecard. Pryor backed Skylr Penna to the ropes in the fourth with a solid left hook to the head, but Penna came back with a withering clinch attack to the body. The Robinson Taekwondo trained Pryor was gassed in the fifth and final round. Skylr Penna effectively worked inside and out, and earned a 49-46, 49-46, 49-46 Unanimous decision win for his efforts.

A technical Van Soest tee'd off with a heavy high kick to the head. It was blocked by Jenna, but still registered. Van Soest also scored a trip takedown, but towards the end of the round an awkward collision forced an injury timeout. Castillo was checked for shoulder damage, but she was deemed fit by the ringside physician and allowed to proceed. San Diego's Sean Ueda was forced to stop an earlier fight early in the first round with a torn bicep. It was in the back of the audience's mind during the stoppage. The ref re- started the fight, and Jenna Castillo landed a hard hook to the head a second or two after the horn. "Time Bomb" shook it off and returned to her corner.
In the second round a relentless Jenna Castillo kept coming forward. Hard hooks to the head stunned her opponent, and hard knees to the body in the clinch slowed her down. Blue Ocean trained Tiffany Van Soest was wobbled with 30 seconds left, but head movement and good footwork got her out of danger. The movement continued for TVS in the third, but a counter-punch low kick combination backed her into a corner. Two extended flurries punished Van Soest until she was forced to take an 8-count. The flamboyant San Diego native slowed down considerably against her larger opponent in the fourth, and a pair of trip takedowns in the fifth punctuated the end of the fight and a 50-44, 49-45, 49-45 unanimous decision win for Jenna Castillo.

  2. IKF PRO WOMEN'S MUAY THAI
Jacqueline Chestnut (Guadalajara) managed by IKF Lightweight Mexican North Coast Champion Carlos "Scorpion" Navarro showed clear superiority in the ring by defeating Maria Isabel Gabriel (Puerto Vallarta ). Jacqueline, thanks to her greater stature, used the elbows well in her attacks to Isabel's head and body. This bout was stopped after 1 minute and 30 seconds of the third round.

  3. IKF PRO MUAY THAI
Making his return after 6 years was IKF Welterweight Mexican Champion Rafael "El Veneno" Ponce ( Puerto Vallarta). In his return he was not as lethal as he would of liked to be in a losing effort by decision against Carlos Zepeda from Irapuato. Although Veneno did not come away with a victory, he was pleased with his performance after such a long absence from the ring.

  4. IKF PRO MUAY THAI
Jesus Téllez (Puerto Vallarta) defeated Alfredo González (Mexico City)

  5. IKF AMATEUR MUAY THAI
    LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT MEXICO TITLE BOUT

Cristian "Baby" Muñoz defeated Carlos Hernandez (Tepic Nayarit) to become the new IKF Light Middleweight Amateur Mexican Champion by split decision. This was a close bout and in the end, two of the judges gave it to Muñoz and the third judge had it a draw.

  6. IKF MAIN EVENT
IKF Featherweight and Lightweight Mexican Champion Gregorio "The Dragoncito" Gabriel (Puerto Vallarta) defeated WBCMT Lightweight Champion, Hugo Solorio also from Puerto Vallarta by TKO AT 1:30 of the first round. This was a non title bout and was an awaited rematch. They had fought twice before, each wining one.

All in all it was a great night of Muay Thai. Special thank to Mr. Manuel Galindo, Commissioner of Box y Lucha and Combat Sports in Puerto Vallarta and referee Armand (el rudo) Tapia who did an excellent job as referee and would have surly made IKF President, Steve Fossum proud.
