FRIDAY, December 30th, 2011, AT 9:00 PM/ PST IKF
Ireland Wishes... A huge thanks goes to all our hard working promoters & officials who put on some great shows & exciting fights in 2011. These individuals brought the sport of Kickboxing in Ireland to an even higher level. Also a huge thanks to all the fighters, coaches, set up crews, sponsors, medical staff etc. IKF Ireland sanctioned no less than 20 shows in the last 12 months including Fifteen All Ireland Titles, Four "5 Nations Titles", Three European Titles, Three World Titles and several Eliminator fights as well as the IKF Junior Open All Ireland Light Contact Championships. These events took place all over the country in Galway City, Kilkenny City, Waterford City, Ashbourne, Co. Meath, Portlaoise, New Ross, Co. Wexford, Mountmellick, Co. Laois, Gort, Co. Galway, Carrick An Siur, Co. Tipperary, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, Ramelton, Co. Donegal, Claremorriss, Co. Mayo and Thurles, Co. Tipperary. We hope to make 2012 an even bigger and better year. Already several shows are booked in around the country and any new promoters looking to come on board should contact Pete Foley (IKF Ireland Representative) on 087 8119227. We are holding an IKF Promoters meeting on Sunday, January 22nd in the Menlo Park Hotel, Galway, Ireland at 12 noon and should be finished by 2:PM at the latest. All IKF Promoters are urged to attend so we can set out our calender for the year ahead so we don't clash with other promoters. We would like everyone to be there by 11.45 AM if possible so we can start on time. There will be finger food and we ask that each club have no more than two representatives. Please let us know if you are coming or not so we'll have an approximate number for the hotel. Thank you all for taking the time to read this post and I look
forward to working with you all in the new year.
We here at the IKF Headquarters also wish everyone a Safe & Prosperous New Year. |

New Black Belts At
Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym
Galway, Ireland
The bi-annual end of the year grading at the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Gym turned out two new Black Belts for the club. In the photo at the right, Master Pete Foley (Center, 7th Dan Black Belt - Examiner) is pictured with on the right, Karen Coffey from Monivea was awarded her 1st Dan after six years or regular training. Karen is an assistant coach at Black Dragon & current P.R.O. for the club.
In the photo at the right, on the left, Adam Keane from Tuam has been involved in Kickboxing for over eight years but took some time out for study & college etc. He had a successfully graded for his Junior Black Belt in 2006 but due to his time out the grade was terminated and his certificate was void. However he re-tested this time around and showed a very high standard to pass with flying colours.
This is part of the terms of grading for a Black Belt as if the hours are not constantly put in, the standard drops so a person who gets a Black Belt through Black Dragon must keep training at a Black Dragon registered club or their certificate becomes void.
Below a happy group of Junior Kickboxers
from the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club
are pictured with Master Pete Foley and their certificates after
successfully moving up the ladder in their chosen sport.
Below are the Senior members of the Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing Club who successfully passed their grading test under 7th Dan Black Belt Master Pete Foley.

A Champion's Heart
Ed Abasolo's
Quest To Become A World Champion
Muay Thai / Kickboxing
Sensation!
It would not take a rocket scientist to see when one is talented beyond the normal scope. IKF United States Light Middleweight Champion Ed Abasolo of Vallejo, California, USA, 8-0) is on a quest to show the world his tremendous talent and heart. Those who have seen Abasolo at work all agree that there is something special about this kid. He is trained by Trey Howard of Vallejo, California, USA who has a stall of young, hungry fighters waiting to burst on the scene. Howard is confident in his fighter stating, "Yes, Ed is special and I feel that he will be a major player in this sport for years to come. He trains hard and is very disciplined." In today's environment of Mixed Martial Arts, Muay Thai Kickboxing has taken a back seat in hopes that it will one day be thrust into the spotlight along with other high profiled contact sports. Techniques used in Muay Thai / Kickboxing - Boxing, kicks, knees and elbows are in many cases what makes MMA the popular sport it is today. In a general discussion with most MMA fans, they love the stand up part of this sport more than anything. What that says about the sport of Muay Thai / Kickboxing is not only that it is a viable sport but is only a few steps away from being back in the spotlight. (Abasolo pictured left landing elbow on opponent) Highly skilled fighters like Abasolo are the type of fighter's that could help propel the sport to where it deserves to be. He is indeed one of the best technicians in the game! With a Sugar Ray Leonard like edge and fighting style, Abasolo mesmerizes fight fans with signature spinning elbows, strong kicks, impressive and slick boxing techniques combined with well-timed gut-busting knees! He takes a few shots buts gives a lot more making his fights that much more exciting! One might go as far as saying the beautiful black and gold cape and essentials to his wardrobe he wears entering the ring, gives him a sort of super hero persona but of course his legacy remains unproven as he is only in the infancy of his career. Just recently, his participation in the IKF West Coast International Kickboxing Classic held in Sacramento, California, USA, he was the talk of the event. Not only did he have one of the toughest divisions in the entire tournament, one of his fights, he blew through formerly undefeated Jordan Decker (5-0) of Mesa, Arizona, USA by 1:25 of round 1. In his Championship bout he faced Aleksandar Naumoski of San Jose, California USA (9-4) who he had to show what he had inside to dig out a close unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28 & 28-29. Either way you look at it, when it was time for him to pull out the additional tools needed to get the win, he dug deeper to do so. Still an undefeated fighter at 8-0, we are not sure of his seemingly endless arsenal but for sure we will see a lot more of Abasolo especially if he can get past Damien Early of Arizona.(Right) Early has built a solid reputation in his area racking up a 12-1 record. In speaking to some from the Arizona area, they report that Early is highly skilled and has a very good chance of beating Abasolo. Lets just keep it real, beating Abasolo is no easy task! Almost everyone who has seen him fight, has pretty much said the same, "This kid is a beast in the ring!" However, if Early can pull this one off, no doubt, he will deserve the title of World Champion. By the way, if there were a common opponent it would be the very tough Alexander Naumoski of San Jose, California, USA. Word has it that the only loss on Early's record was handed to him by Naumoski. As noted above, Abasolo and Naumoski fought in the IKF West Coast Classic a few weeks ago. Naumoski gave Abasolo all he could handle on Championship Sunday, but Abasolo was able to weather the storm enough to impress judges to get the win. Most observers said it was a very close fight. Although Abasolo pulled out the victory when Early could not, it basically shows that all of these guys are perhaps in the same skill bracket and who knows who may walk out a champion. The real answer may only lie deep within each of the combatants...In a word..."Heart"... The question is, WHO has the most and who wants it more? We can't wait to find this out! (Right, Abasolo shows off his kicks) Ed Abosolo is fully supported by his wife Bernedet who also trains in Muay Thai. He is a father of one, great big bother to his little sister and two little brothers and has a belief in God that will pull him through any situation.. He will have to call on all of his tools and faculties on Sunday, January 15th, 2012 at the Doubletree Hotel in Sacramento, California, USA. If he can take out Early in impressive fashion, fight-world look out! Abosolo's charisma, skill, humility and great personality will take the world by storm and gladly induct this future super star to the real and exciting world of celebrity sports entertainment!

Sacramento, California, USA
Don't Forget coming Sunday, January 15th, 2012, IKF Championship Muay Fights are back at the Doubletree Hotel in the Grand Ballroom! Doors will open at 3:30, fights start at 5:PM. It will be a full night of Las Vegas Style fights complete with great music, great food and drink! Main events will feature rising star and current IKF US Light Middleweight Champion Ed Abosolo (Left, 8-0) of Vallejo, California, USA taking on top contender Damien Early (Right, 12-1 with 5 KO's) of Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Both men are hungry and very talented. However, only one of them will walk out as the Dee Alhadi of San Jose, California, USA will take on Alec Gonzales of Vallejo, California, USA. This should be a war as Alec has proven he is the man to beat with a big win of IKF Champion Eric Luna at the IKF West Coast Classic. Alhadi will have his hands full! Plus, on a side note, Trainer and now again...fighter, Ivan Ramos of San Leandro, California, USA will be stepping back into the ring to take on experienced Phil Devera of San Jose, California, USA. This will be a 5 round bout and looks like and even match on paper and could go either way. This fight should be great entertainment for those attending! AK Promotions will also feature a junior bout between 9 year old 4'6", James Rodriquez of Sacramento, California, USA, fighting 9 year old 4'5", Sammy Sosa of Brentwood, California, USA. These two did an exhibition at the recent IKF West Coast Classic and it was a great way to kick off championship Sunday! It should be a great fight between these two future champions...The only difference....this one will count! There will be a full evening of exciting bouts and one of the best shows ever to kick off the 2012 Fight Year! Tell your friends to plan for this one! |

"IKF
Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing"
November 19th, 2011 - San Diego, California,
USA
In the first presentation of IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing in the San Diego area, several fighters showed up to demonstrate their skills but many of them where at different weights and skill level. Therefore, IKF Point Kickboxing Representative Daniel Hodges decided to do a round robin event where basically everyone got to compete and everyone walked away with a prize.
In the future and as more gyms in that area become familiar with the popular IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing movement and the great benefits to fighters and the sport, we are sure many more competitors will show up for future events. A big congratulations to all fighters, coaches and gyms who showed up to support the event! Additionally, a big shout out to Team Quest Encinitas who came in numbers and demonstrated impressive Muay Thai skills!
There was a great performance by
There was also an awesome female bout between Alexis Reyes and Poala Ramirez. Other female fighters showed up but this time around did not have an opponent but gave notice that they will be back so female fighters get ready to rock San Diego.
Moreover, there were some junior fighters that showed up ready for battle and did not have opponents this time around. Again, this should give notice to other gyms that there is action waiting for your club for future IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing tournaments in your area and we are looking forward to seeing more gyms for future events. Big thanks to everyone who came out to support Kickboxing in San Diego county, lets get the word out that IKF PKB is HERE and looking for talented Muay Thai Kickboxers!
The above report was submitted by IKF PKB Representative Daniel "Hitman" Hodges who also won his division in the IKF West Coast Muay Thai Kickboxing Classic the following week with three big victories over the weekend! The welterweight division had some of the toughest competitors in the entire tournament.

"IKF
Fight Night In Waterford"
December 10th, 2011 - Waterford, Ireland
IKF Promoter Mr. Billy O' Sullivan held a Full Contact Kickboxing show in the Rainbow Hall, Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford last night. The main events were two IKF All Ireland Title fights. The undercard was to be made up of nine exciting fights including a K-1 fight but one of the fighters never showed so it was down to eight.
The evening started at 7.30 PM and was all wrapped up by 10.15 PM. The two Title fights were worth the admission fee alone. Sean O Neill made a mandatory first defence of his IKF Amateur FCR All Ireland Middleweight crown to stylish Wicklow fighter Simon Alvey. Alvey pushed O Neill all the way and forced a decision but it was O' Neill's hand that was raised after the final bell. Although Alvey was very accurate with his jabs and sneaky well placed kicks, O' Neill landed the bigger bombs. Alvey lost some points due to leaning on the champion several times during the fight and forcing his head down. A rematch would make for a cracking contest as Alvey showed he can certainly mix it up with the best.
The final fight was for the IKF Amateur FCR Junior All Ireland Super Lightweight Title. This was between local hero Dylan Moran from Kilmacthomas and AKAI Champion Dylan Wallace from Cookstown Mugendo. This fight started off with both young men seemingly looking for an early finish as they exchanged leather at an incredible rate. However Moran was on fire and although Wallace tried his best, it all came to an end at one minute & thirty two seconds of round three with Wallaces corner throwing in the towel. Moran was crowned IKF Champion of Ireland and a new superstar was born.

Results From Pete Foley's
The Annual "Seasons Beatings" International Kickboxing promotion in the Packed Menlo Park Hotel on Saturday night, 3rd December, 2011 proved to be a real Christmas cracker for Galway fight fans! The action was second to none and with three major IKF Titles up for grabs between six well matched fighters, it was always going to be a war. The promotion was fully sanctioned by the International Kickboxing Federation and all safety measures were in place with uniformed medical staff, proper ambulance facility, certified doctor at ringside who gave all fighters a stringent pre-fight medical and of course the show started pretty much on time and finished just before 10 PM. The main event featured Galway superstar Gary "Slick" Manogue making a mandatory first defence of his IKF 5 Nations crown against unbeaten Welshman Mike Sandford from Swansea. Although Manogue earned a hard fought unanimous decision to claim victory, great credit must go to Sandford as he left nothing in the ring and the fight went right down to the wire. Manogues record now stands at 13 -0. Oughterard hard hitter Bryan "Mayhem" Merrigan took on Muay Thai specialist Josh Tannian from Spartans Thaiboxing Camp in Cork for the vacant IKF All Ireland Super Welterweight Title. This was shaping up to be a cracker between two tough guys until midways through the very first round Merrigan caught Tannian with a vicious inside leg kick which dropped the Corkman. Tannian was unfortunately unable to continue and Merrigan had become champion of Ireland in the very first round. Tannian was gracious in defeat and Merrigan & his coach Pete Foley offered Tannian and his management the very first defence early in the new year. One of the big success stories of the year came when 38 years old mum of two Yvonne "No Mercy" McNevin took on Waterford lass Geina McGrath for the vacant IKF All Ireland Flyweight title. Both girls went at it from the bell but McNevin was relentless in her attacks and she sent McGrath to the canvas twice for 8 counts before the end of the first round. However McGrath came to fight and made it to the bell. The second round was a bit closer but McNevin always looked that bit stronger. In the third she broke through McGraths defence yet again and forced another standing count. McGrath was in trouble now and Yvonne seemed to be getting stronger and stronger and the writing was on the wall for the Waterford fighter. McNevin teed off on her in a savage attack that saw the opposite corner throw in the towel. Galway once again had a brand new IKF All Ireland champion by TKO in round 4. Results as Follows:
