"IKF
Kickboxing"
February 19th, 2012 - Galway, Ireland
Galway Kickboxer Gary Manogue won the "Last Man Standing 4 Man Event" at the Menlo Park Hotel on Sunday, February 19th. Manogue first won the semi final win against Barry O Toole from Wicklow over 3 rounds and a final win against Darryl Orr from Donegal over 4 rounds. Both fights went the distance and were stand up wars. The final was one of the best kickboxing fights of the last ten years - a real classic. The last fight of the night saw IKF European Champion Eric Daly make a mandatory first defence of his IKF title to IKF English Champion Garthy Shove from Kent. This was a very technical affair with all 3 judges scoring it a draw as Daly retained his belt. The Menlo Park was rocking with asthenosphere and all the fights were well matched. The promoter would like to say a big thanks to all the fighters & coaches who travelled from all across Ireland and also of course to our visitors from TKO academy in Kent. Also a big thanks to sponsor Sally Longs Bar. Another Thanks goes to all the judges/referees who did a fine job, the event MC Alan Mc Nevin, glove runners, kickcounters, DJ Pa Murphy, corner staff, Dr. Maura Grummell, Order Of Malta, Menlo Park management & staff, the fight fans, Stephen Kenny DVD and of course to the very professional set up crew who did a fine with the ring. A professional DVD of the show will be available soon and you can order from "ONLY" Stephen Kenny on 087 0910660.

Xavier Vigney
Leaves No Decision For The Judges!
And Good Thing He Doesn't As
Excellent Production
Took Some Hits By Questionable Decisions...
While some of the bouts ended in questionable decision last night, Super Heavyweight Xavier Vigney did exactly what every trainer tells their fighter as they enter the ring, "Don't leave it to the judges!" Vigney went into the ring Sunday night as a slight underdog to 6'6", 251 lb Leagh Rogers of Woodruff, South Carolina, USA, (12-3/7). Rogers is trained by former professional World Champion Kickboxer Kevin "Hurricane" Hudson. Before retiring in 2003, Hudson also won the IKF Pro United States Title. Simply put, Rogers had plenty of fight experience working for him in his corner.
This past July, Rogers made a strong statement at the 2011 IKF WORLD CLASSIC Championship Tournament in Orlando, Florida, USA. Rogers entered the tournament as the 6th seed in the 6 fighter - International Rules Super Heavyweight division. In the opening bracket round he defeated Jeremy Snider of Orange Park, Florida, USA by TKO at 1:24 of round 3. Later that day he Knocked Out Ryan Weatherwax of Brooksville, Florida by KO at :48 seconds of round 3. The next day, Rogers took the title when he defeated Arthur Tapusoa of Independence, Missouri, USA, (11-1/7, AMMA: 9-1/6) by TKO stoppage at :51 seconds of round 2.
Prior to Rogers celebrating his World Classic victory, young 21 year old Xavier Vigney was on a hot streak in redeeming himself after suffering his first career loss. To give you some background history, Vigney's first loss was to John Hurny on October 8th, 2010 in Sacramento, California, USA. The loss was in a 4 fighter qualifying bout for the IKF Super Heavyweight Muay Thai United States Title. Hurny defeated Vigney by TKO at :59 seconds of round 1. Some had questioned the referees decision in not giving Vigney an 8 count after being rocked by Hurny instead of calling the fight over so quickly. Regardless the victory advanced Hurny to fight for the vacant IKF Super Heavyweight USA Title which he won on January 16th, 2011 in, Sacramento, California when he defeated Manuel Mancha by Head Kick Knockout at 1:44 of round 3.
After his loss, many thought Vigney's loss was his end. In his loss to Hurny, the 6'7", 235 lbs, Vigney looked as though he couldn't coordinate his long arms and lack of distance and timing to land a straight jab. Some thought he was uncoordinated, slow with little power and oddly so, just too big to transition into a top skilled fighter...
However Promoter Johnny Davis still believed something was there, and so did his veteran trainer Dan Black. Three months later, Davis got the approval from the IKF to give Vigney what could have been his last shot to prove himself. On April 30th, 2011 at the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln, California, Vigney stepped up to the challenge... It was like he ad been listening to the opening of Eminem's famous song ''Loose Yourself" with the opening lyrics saying, "Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment Would you capture it or just let it slip?". From the opening bell, we saw what was to be the "NEW VIGNEY!
His 6'2", 268 lb opponent Manuel Mancha didn't seem to have an answer for pretty much everything Vigney threw at him. Keep in mind that Vigney is so tall that he enters the ring by stepping over the top rope. He had a huge reach advantage and used that advantage to great effect. Mancha was taking repeated punches as he moved forward but proved to have an anvil of a head, pressing gamely forward despite the punishment Vigney was dealing him. In the end, Mancha had no answer for Vigney's reach and referee Dan Stell called the action at 1:17 of the round 4. The impressive win set Vigney up for a challenge of Jon Hurney's IKF US Super Heavyweight title that July.
Fast forward now to July 1st, 2011 in Sacramento, California. It was Vigney's chance to redeem himself in his only loss of his career. Champion John Hurny had not just took a title from him, but also left many questioning Vigney's true skill and fighting ability. Once again, Vigney heard those words... "Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity To seize everything you ever wanted in one moment Would you capture it or just let it slip?" Vigney had too much to risk to fall again, and once again, we saw yet an even MORE Improved Xavier Vigney!
From the opening bell, many at ringside were looking to see if Vigney's jaw would survive the hard shots we all knew Hurny would throw. However, the even more improved Vigney was composed and more so, ACCURATE! He never seemed to get winded and always seemed to find the target he was looking for on Hurny. By the time this bout hit the final round, Vigney had it in the bag. Still, he didn't just run away as some may have done to secure the title. He went after Hurny, forcing referee Dan Stell to give 2 standing 8 counts in the final round. Throughout the 5th and final round, Hurny kept throwing his bombs that some thought, if landed, would be the game changer. However, none of them even came close. Even if they did, Vigney was so relaxed and composed, he simply slipped them by. As the final bell sounded there was a "NEW" Champion by unanimous decision, 49-44 on all 3 judges cards and his name was Xavier Vigney!
After the bout Vigney's trainer Dan Black asked if it was too late to send him to the 2011 IKF World Classic Tournament. Sadly though, the final deadline had past, so we would not see Vigney at the big show. Instead, it would be 7 months later that Vigney would enter the ring and get yet again, another "Ultimate Shot!"
Now the stage has been set. It would be a "David meets Goliath" bout on paper as 6'6", 251 lb Leagh Rogers representing Goliath would travel across the country 3,000 miles to meet 6'7", 229 lb. Xavier Vigney face to face in the ring. Within a year Vigney was no longer the, thought to be, uncoordinated tall and thin Super Heavyweight. His work ethic and disciplined training from trainer Dan Black had brought him to his own "Goliath". Still, it would be Rogers who would get the Goliath tag from his past experience and performance at last years IKF World Classic Tournament while Vigney would walk proud into the ring as the so called "David" in this battle of Giants!
Running through Vigney's mind was more than the thoughts of "Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity..." unknown to all of us as well as Rogers was something else that would motivate Vigney on this night... He had just lost one of his closest friends the week before and his loss was still fresh in his mind. Vigney had clearly come of age as a fighter, so it wasn't like he needed an additional motivator to help him perform. Still, the power of the mind can propel an individual to great heights, as long as those emotions are channelled in the right direction. Trainer Dan Black knew how to do so, and do so he did, and now it was time to prove to the world that there was a new Super Heavyweight Muay Thai star on the planet, and his name is Xavier Vigney!
As the opening bell sounded, both started slow, giving each their due respect. When most at ringside expected Rogers to be the one to pick up the pace, to all our surprise, it was Vigney who would shift it up a gear. What we have noticed more and more over the last year has been Vigney's improved quickness and more so, the accuracy and strength of shots like his once slow and off-time jab. Within a few seconds Vigney caught Rogers with something we had never seen from him in previous bouts, a solid left hook. The shot caught Rogers as he was coming in and slightly buckled his knees as he fell forward, onto Vigney as both giants went down. Because both fell, referee Dan Stell choose not to give any 8 count and quickly got both fighters back up. However, it was like Vigney was a wild wolf now and had smelled Rogers blood. He had found a weak spot where Rogers would drop his right hand and Vigney wanted another shot at it. Within a few moments he saw it, took the shot and landed his bomb on the right side of Rogers cheek. Down went Rogers as Stell moved in. A quick look into Rogers eyes proved the end, asking Stell where he was and what happened. Stell waived the bout done at 1:35 of round 1.
It has been a journey of a Giant named Xavier Vigney that all of us had been proud to watch. He had came to this game as a boy and now with a World Title strapped around his waist, takes his place where other Giant of Men have stood. At the top, looking down at others around him. Xavier Vigney was the new IKF World Champion. Proud, humble and quietly explosive, he now walks through the valley of Champions. Beside him walk his believers from his trainer Dan Black to his ever noticeable father who has stood beside him from the beginning. You have a lot to celebrate Vigney Family, and you too Mr. Black. We here at the IKF are so very proud of what you have accomplished in such a short time.
As Vigney walked out of the ring, he left both AK Promotions Johnny Davis and the IKF wondering, "Who's next" to step into the ring and challenge this gentle giant? Time will answer that question, but for now, there is only one phrase that needs to be written....
Ladies and Gentlemen,
the new
IKF Amateur Modified Muay Thai Rules
Super Heavyweight World Champion is
Xavier
Vigney
of Concord, California, USA!
Still, there may be one title Vigney still needs to
hold to gain the overall respect to make him undisputed. The 2012 IKF World Classic
Tournament Title. Rogers was clear after the fight that he
will be in Orlando this July to fight for what would be his second
IKF
World Classic Tournament title. He of course hopes that it will be
Vigney across the ring from him come July. It's February now gentlemen,

So How Was
The Rest Of The Show...
Despite some questionable decisions, last nights AK Promotions event was once again another EXCELLENT production by Johnny Davis and his AK Promotions staff. However, taking some of the shine out of the event was some questionable decisions by the judges of the California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). "It's not a personal issue because none of these judges have any interest in any of the fighters or the promotion or anything to gain or lose in their decisions." Said IKF President Steve Fossum. "All three of them have served as judges for the CSAC for years and been very good, and still do good jobs as judges. However when it comes to Muay Thai, every once in awhile, there comes a very questionable decision. I believe it's more to be the lack of proper training for CSAC Officials that create these questionable decisions."
We here at the IKF would like to address those fight fans, trainers and fighters who were walking the venue last night cursing the IKF and Promoter Johnny Davis about the questionable judges decisions that ended up as a loss for fighters you know. We need to point out that you were more so preaching to the same people who were thinking EXACTLY what you were. WE TOO were not happy with several decisions of last nights event, and several other events here in California.
Let us make it clear that judges Michael Tate, Susan Thomas-Gitlin & Marty Sammon had some very close fights to judge last night. For the most part, they were on track for the majority of their decisions. However there were indeed a few that left many wondering that ever so famous comment, "What fight were they watching?" which is a question asked on at least 1 bout on every event in the world. On the plus side, both referees Dan Stell & Edward Collantes did a Great job as the event referees.
Sadly, it's not just here in California where these questionable decisions happen. It seems wherever we travel to, wherever we sanction an event that is overseen by State Commission Officials, we see the same things. Boxing judges who are simply placed in to be a Muay Thai Judge... Boxing Referees that are placed in to be a Muay Thai Referee... MMA judges who think they know how to judge Muay Thai, but haven't a clue, or MMA referee's who feel, "Oh this is easy cause there is no ground fighting" etc. etc.
Believe us, it's time to address this openly and in doing so, we are preparing an article that we will post soon in regards to the lack of proper training for CSAC Officials. We will also voice our opinion as to what a JOKE the recent CSAC Muay Thai officials training was last month in Southern California. When you hear who taught the seminar and what was taught, you will have a better understanding as to why the CSAC Officials are still lost when it comes to proper Muay Thai judging techniques.
Here are the results of the remainder of the bouts from last nights AK Promotions event:

"A Pittance of Time"
Remembering Those Who Protect Us All...
No Matter Where They
Serve or What Uniform They Wear...
On November 11, 1999 a singer/songwriter named Terry Kelly was in a drug store in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At 10:55 AM an announcement came over the store's PA asking customers who would still be on the premises at 11:00 AM to give two minutes of silence in respect to the veterans who have sacrificed so much for us.
Terry was impressed with the store's leadership role in adopting the Legion's "Two Minutes Of Silence" initiative. He felt that the store's contribution of educating the public to the importance of remembering was commendable.
When eleven o'clock arrived on that day, an announcement was again made asking for the "Two Minutes Of Silence" to commence. All customers, with the exception of a man who was accompanied by his young child, showed their respect.
Terry's anger towards the father for trying to engage the store's clerk in conversation and for setting a bad example for his child was channeled into a beautiful piece of work called, "A Pittance of Time".
Terry's is from Newfoundland Canada and the song features the Canadian Army. His own story is one that has inspired many. At the age of one, he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a cancerous condition that left him blind. Yet this didn't stop Terry... - a natural athlete from becoming a double-silver medallist at the 1979 Canadian Track Competition, from being a member of the Canadian Track Team that competed in the 1980 Paralympics. Not impressed yet? He became the third blind person in the entire world to run a sub five-minute mile. He is best known for his music. With six studio release since his debut album in 1985, he has won seven East Coast Music awards and has been nominated for four Canadian Country Music awards and a JUNO. He made music history with the release of his 2002 album, The Power of the Dream. It was the first music CD in the world with Braille liner notes.
How popular is this song? Run a Google Search on "A Pittance of Time" and you will find close to 3 million sites of the song itself to stories about it...

Stephen
Thompson
Moving On To UFC 145
In Atlanta
Stephen Thompson Vs. Matt Brown - UFC 145, Atlanta,
Georgia, USA
Former IKF Champion and now pro MMA fighter Stephen Thompson (Right) already has an invitation back to the UFC Fight Stage. Thompson will almost be fighting in his backyard as he takes on Matt Brown at UFC 145 in April in Atlanta, Georgia. As many here know, Thompson made his UFC debut a little over a week ago, knocking out Dan Stittgen with a head kick in round 1. The win improved his MMA record to 6-0, 1-0 in the UFC.
The critics are already at it on various MMA news pages claiming Thompson had it easy in his win over Dan Stittgen. Writers are already making it clear that Thompson will face a much more experienced fighter in Brown (13-11, 6-5 UFC) who defeated Chris Cope (5-3) by second round TKO on the same night Thompson made his debut.
However Brown has went 2-4 on his last 6 events dating back to March of 2010. He went winless in 2010 losing all 3 bouts by submission. He stayed out of the cage from November 2010 till June 2011 when he came back and defeated John Howard by decision, only to turn around in November of 2011 and lose to Seth Baczynski by submission.
The articles out in the MMA world are claiming that Thompson will most likely want to keep the fight standing, feeling he's "Just a kickboxer with no ground game." Thompson though is eager to show the MMA World his ground game if need be, but the truth is, if he doesn't have to, "Why go to the ground?" Besides, it's VERY CLEAR to everyone watching MMA today that the "Stand-up" portion of the sport is what's exciting the crowds. This is most likely why Kickboxing and Muay Thai events are showing larger crowds then 5-10 years ago. The question is, "WHEN will TV take notice and get Kickboxing and Muay Thai on main stream TV?"
The comments of Thompson's critics are nothing new and almost expected by those who don't know him. As with anyone, those who don't know Thompson and doubt him are the first to say Stittgen was not that good, and will also be the first to say neither is Brown if Thompson comes away victorious. Sadly, we live in a world of "Negative news gets more read than positive." Because of this, there will be those who want to jump on Thompson and say he's not all that, etc... We have watched Thompson since 2000. We have seen him grow up, not only as a fighter but as a bright, respectful and honorable young man. If or when the times comes that Thompson is on the losing end one day, you won't hear excuses, cries, etc.. "You will hear a man simply admit, his opponent was better on this day or night, but another day will come, and it will be my day..." to Thompson's critics, an answer like that is like smiling at a person who curses you out to your face and then just walking away... and that alone will be yet another victory for the "Wonderboy!"

Stephen "Wonderboy"
Thompson
Says Hello To The UFC
In The Best Way Possible!
A
Right (FRONT LEG) Roundkick
KNOCKOUT
Of Daniel Stittgen At
UFC 143
Seem like you viewers here were not the only ones reading the opening line in last months Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, article, but for those who missed it, it read: "Abraham Lincoln once said, "I will prepare and some day my chance will come."...
Well, for former IKF World Champion and multi time IKF Tournament Champion (Among MANY other Kickboxing Titles) Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, that time was this past Saturday afternoon at UFC 143!
Thompson of Simpsonville, South Carolina, USA made sure he would not be forgotten as just another UFC debut fighter that simply won his bout and moved on. For over 4 minutes of the first round, it appeared Thompson was never even touched by his opponent, 31 year old Daniel Stittgen (7-2 Pro, 2-0 Amateur MMA) of Schaumburg, Illinois as Thompson seemed to land his strikes at will. Just after the 4 minute mark of round 1, Thompson picked up his "Front" Right Leg and slapped Stittgen across the neck and jaw (1) (2) and dropped him like rock. Referee Josh Rosenthal was quick to stop Thompson from moving in and good thing he did as Stittgen was OUT COLD at 4:13 of round 1.
The win brings Thompson's Pro MMA record now to a PERFECT 6-0 which when added to his kickboxing record of 51-0 brings him to a perfect 57-0*.
According to Fightcove.com, Thompson's purse was $12,000 (Includes $6,000 win bonus) and he also received a $65,000 bonus for "Knockout of the Night." Fabricio Werdum, Roy Nelson and Dustin Poirier also took home an additional $65,000 in the form of post-fight bonuses at UFC 143. Dustin Poirier for submission of the night, and Fabricio Werdum and Roy Nelson for "Fight of the Night".
It was first reported that Thompson was to face Ultimate Fighter' competitor Justin Edwards. However on January 19th, Thompson's opponent changed to Daniel Stittgen instead of Justin Edwards. The reason for the switch was and is still unknown. Thompson amassed an incredible 57-0 record as a kickboxer with 40 knockouts to his credit, but a knee injury forced him to the sidelines and that's where his attention turned to MMA.

WEDNESDAY, February 1st, 2012, AT 10:35 AM/ PST Xavier Vigney's Turn to
Take the Test!
In just a few weeks IKF Super Heavyweight United States Champion Xavier "Sagat" Vigney (L) of Concord, California and 2011 IKF World Classic Tournament Champion Leagh Rogers (R) of Woodruff, South Carolina will get there "One Chance" to go to the next level. Simply put, one will succeed and one will fail! The big question is who will give in to the will of the other? Who will decide in the midst of the storm to go in for shelter? Or, who will decide that no matter the pain, anguish and difficulty of the battle, they are in it to win! That my friend will determine our new IKF Amateur World Super Heavyweight Champion! It has been said that the "proof is in the pudding." However, the real proof is in the act of eating the pudding and there you discover the proof to whether its good or bad. There are few people who have seen the tremendous comeback of Xavier Vigney and not be impressed. After a devastating knockout by the hands of former IKF United States Champion John "Big Sexy" Hurny of Dublin, California, Vigney with his confident trainer Dan Black of Concord, California at his side, returned to the ring in his next matches with an unstoppable killer instinct. As part of his come-back he left no questions as he displayed a real beat-down of Hurny in their rematch this past summer in Sacramento, California. Hurny was almost out on his feet in the fourth round taking a standing eight count but managed to hang in there to finish the grueling fight and survive the onslaught of the very aggressive Vigney who was on a mission! Today, Vigney who has also ventured into amateur boxing...is a new man. He carries himself like the champion he is. Because of his 6'7" well conditioned frame, when he's around, you notice. However, these days, the difference is that he knows what he has accomplished and knows what he has to overcome when he meets the determined 6'6" Rogers who will bring his full arsenal including nice kicks and knockout power to the meeting! On Sunday, February 19th, 2012, the 230lbs former football star and graduate of De La Salle High School will have the opportunity to make yet another mark in the City of Concord, California. Vigney will be facing 6'6" Leagh Rogers (12-3 with 7 KO's) of Woodruff, South Carolina for the Vacant IKF Super Muay Thai Heavyweight Championship. This will be no easy test for either man. Rogers has had a string of victories and finished his last opponent in only one round with a devastating one punch knockout! His trainer, former Kickboxing Champion Kevin Hudson of Simpsonville, South Carolina speaks with great respect for his fighter and feels he is just one step away from capturing one of his life's dreams. Here is one thing for sure, Vigney will not be offering gifts on this Sunday afternoon. Already an imposing figure with great lungs and reflexes, Vigney knows that this too may be his only opportunity to shine and like Leigh, would love to add the words World Champion to his resume especially being an IKF World Champion which is certainly one of, if not the most recognized Kickboxing and Muay Thai sanctioning body in the sport today. This meeting of will power, guts and skill can only be negotiated in one place...The Ring! Two really big men square off to prove supremacy over the division. Thousands of fans will witness the agility, quickness and power with over 500 pounds combined with exciting Muay Thai Kickboxing techniques! One word comes to mind...Explosive! Yes, California is not expecting any earthquakes but expect a lot of shockwaves inside The Oakland Convention Center at the Marriott City Center on Sunday, February 19th, 2012! Doors open at 3:30 PM and the first of a scheduled 15 fight event will kick off at 5:PM on this President's Day Weekend, which means a three day vacation for many. Come early and enjoy great food, great drinks, great music and great Muay Thai Kickboxing action!
