The IKF Sanctioned "Mayhem In Meath 4" Full Contact Kickboxing, Boxing & K-1 event promoted by Mr. Mick Burke (Proprietor of the PMA Gyms in Ashbourne & Navin Coi. Meath) was a resounding success despite some last minute pull outs due to a car accident. (Thankfully no-one was badly hurt). The show had a good mixture of styles to keep all disciplines happy. Three excellent title fights, an exciting "Pro Rules" K-1 bout and the Venue was packed to the doors with enthusiastic and extremely vocal but sporting fight fans.

"IKF JUNIOR
KICKBOXING"
August 18th, 2013 - Waterford, Ireland
Great Junior Kickboxing show this past Sunday at the Raging Bull WKA Gym in Waterford. The event, was promoted by Waterfords top coach, the charismatic Master Billy O Sullivan and Sanctioned by the IKF. It was well supported by gyms from all over Ireland and gave the upcoming talent an excellent chance to gain some invaluable experience ahead of the IKF Junior Nationals in Kilkenny in October.
It's shows like these that show who's interested in bringing our future superstars a further step up the ladder in their chosen sport. With that in mind, the IKF and Master O Sullivan would like to thank all those who attended. We are all looking forward to the next Junior Event with more exciting action.

"A NIGHT OF KICKBOXING & K1"
July 27th, 2013 - Dublin, Ireland
The very first IKF Promotion in
Irelands capital city of Dublin was held on the 27th July in the Wright
Venue in Swords. the event was promoted by the well known Mr. Damian
Crowther who is the chief coach of "Siamo Kickboxing".
With 14 fights on the card, the enthusiastic fight fans certainly got their moneys worth. The only sad note was that the scheduled main event was cancelled due to one of the Pro fighters coming in 1.3kg heavy (Almost 3 lbs). Because of this the semi main event, the IKF All Ireland Welterweight Title Fight, was upgraded to the nights Main Event! This came as a bonus to the fight fans as this bout proved to be a stormer between the defending IKF Champion Peter Mc Cabe and KBI Champion and challenger Stephen Mc Afee.
Mc Cabe took the win after a tough five rounds and retained his IKF title. The semi main event was the IKF Super Middleweight Eliminator bout fought over four rounds. Justin "The Joker" Downey from Siamo Kickboxing easily defeated Shane Gethings from Elite Martial Arts with a third round stoppage. This win paved his way for a crack at current IKF Champion Alex Teminkov from PMA in Meath. This showdown has been scheduled for December 7th, 2013 in Galway.

IKF
CHAMPION
Gary "Slick" Manogue
Set For IKF World
Title Showdown!
As many are aware, Ireland's Full Contact Rules fighter Gary (Galway, Ireland, 22-1) went the whole 5 round distance and defeated Kilkenny fighter Kayne Nelson, a veteran of over 30 fights at the time, for the IKF All Ireland Title on May 15, 2010 in Leisureland, Galway. He later fought Nelson at 72kg (158 lbs) and knocked him out in the 2nd round. Having problems finding anyone in Ireland to defend his title to, in 2010 he accepted a challenge to fight Sam Allen (Sam later turned Pro and recently won two professional World Titles - one as recently as last Saturday) for the vacant IKF 5 Nations Title in Telford, UK. Later in 2010 Sam got injured and pulled out so Gareth Porter who had just won the WKA World championships in Italy was drafted in and Gary knocked him out in the second round. Gary defended his 5 Nations belt to unbeaten Welsh fighter Mike Sandford in December 2011 in Galway. After a tough 5 rounds he emerged as a unanimous decision winner handing Sandford his very first defeat. Garys only loss was to 8 time IKF World Tournament Champion Nathan Key (CLICK - Augusta, Georgia, USA, 33-3/17, AMMA: 6-1) in the final of the 2012 IKF World Classic Championships in Orlando, Florida USA. Taking nothing away from Key, but Manogue had to fight in the weightclass above his desired weight of Super Welterweight (147.1 lbs - 153 lbs. - 66.9 kg - 69.5 kg) because his team-mate, Charlie Ward wanted to fight at Super Welterweight. So, Gary moved up to Light Middleweight (153.1 lbs. - 159 lbs. - 69.6 kg - 72.3 kg) where he eventually fought Key for the title. Still, a loss to someone like Nathan Key is certainly
no disgrace. |
||
Like a true champion, Gary didn't dwell on the loss but concentrated on his next big challenge which was against Romain Beranger from France for the vacant IKF European Super Welterweight Title at the Black Box Theatre in Galway on November 24, 2012. In front of a huge crowd and incredible atmosphere, Gary stopped the game Frenchman in the third round to claim the IKF European title. Then on May 26, 2013 Gary defended it against teak tough David Blais from Nantes in the North West region of France and once again took a clear unanimous decision. Highlights of which were shown on national TV. Just last year he travelled to Sunderland and fought British Champion Dean Petty who he knocked out cold in round two in front of a thousand fight fans. Earlier this year, he headlined a big show in France where he knocked out the local hero in the very first round. After much discussions with IKF World President Steve Fossum in California the hunt was on to secure Gary a World Title fight in the Super Welterweight (147.1 lbs. - 153 lbs. - 66.9 kg - 69.5 kg.) division where Gary is ranked number 1 and holds the IKF European title. The first choice was number 2 ranked FCR Super Welterweight - Marco Capabianco (Oakville, Ontario, Canada 22-5 - Click for Photo). There is quite a bit of history between Capabianco, Key and Gary. Capabianco had fought and lost a 3 round decision to Key back in 2010 at the 2010 IKF World Classic. Capabianco came back to the 2011 IKF World Classic, winning the title at Welterweight (143 lbs. to 150 lbs. - 65 kg. to 68.18 kg.) That same year Key fought and won the Light Middleweight (153 lbs to 160 lbs. - 69.54 kg. to 72.72 kg.) title. Capabianco repeated and defended his title at the 2012 IKF World Classic. That same year was the bout we spoke of above, Manogue's only loss to Key in the Championship bout at Light Middleweight (153.1 lbs. - 159 lbs. - 69.6 kg - 72.3 kg.) With all the history, Capobianco seemed like the best possible opponent for the World title. However, Capobianco's trainer won't be available for the bout date (Attending the WAKO tournament in Turkey) making Capobianco unavailable. Gary had already defeated number 3 ranked Romain Beranger and since number 4 ranked Charlie Ward (Galway, Ireland, 15-5-1/4) trains with Gary and of course, has the same coach, he of course was not a match. Number 5 ranked was Mouim Issahili (St Martin, France, 22-5) but he is now concentrating on International Rules & K-1 rules so he said he no longer wants to fight above the waist, Full Contact Rule Style. None of the remaining contenders had the records to secure a World Title request so the search went outside the IKF World Amateur Rankings. Finally, an opponent was secured and signed off by the IKF World Headquarters Office. He could well prove to be Garys biggest challenge to date. His name is Roy Wishman. Wishman (Bergen Full Contact, Norway, 30-16) is a veteran of almost 50 fights and he hails from Bergen in Norway. He fights out of the highly regarded Bergen Full Contact Camp and his coach Baard Trones is one of the most respected trainers in Scandinavia. The fight has been
set for December 7th, 2013 in Leisureland in Galway

They will bring their best talents to test their skills in full contact Modified Muay Thai Rule, high and low kick International styles. MMA Fighters wanting to do stand-up and Kickboxers regardless of affiliation are welcomed to participate in fact, its highly recommended the more the better the competition!
President of AK Promotions, Johnny "Superfoot" Davis (Right) was delighted about the new relationship with South of the Border and knows that this event will be a success and a great form of entertainment for the entire family in the region! Davis is a former two-time world champion Kickboxer and promoter who recently relocated back to the Southeast to be closer to family. He also noted "The East Coast Kickboxing community has always been loaded with great fighters in areas like New York, Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and even Alabama and Mississippi and therefore the event is expected to be well attended! I'm ecstatic to have the opportunity to bring the Fight Sport industry to the area. Moreover, this event is a great precursor to bigger events we plan to do at South of the Border and surrounding cities in 2014." If Davis, who also promotes music, festivals and comedy events has his way, South of the Border will feel a little like Las Vegas in the not so distant future.
Over the past 23 years while in California, Davis built his AK Promotions company to one of the top promotions in California. He and the IKF also promoted the IKF West Coast Classic in 2011 that registered 180 fighters and was the largest kickboxing event ever held in California. More information click HERE.
The International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) will be sanctioning and assisting with coordinating the event. The IKF is known for administering strict safety regulations to protect participants. The event will have some of the top officials in North and South Carolina like: Chief Referee for South Carolina and Georgia, Mr. Blake Grice. Also top referee and champion fighter Mr. Dale Frye of North Carolina, both champion fighters. Other officials such as Shannon and Kevin Hudson of Limon, South Carolina will be on board. At press time, Mr. Scott McMillan of Morehead City, North Carolina, Former fighter Terry Rich, Former Fighter Anthony Thompson, Mr. Ray Thompson and Chief Referee for the IKF Dan Stell are just a few of the top officials who will be on board that weekend to assure all fights are judged fairly. More officials to be named soon.
South of the Border is an excellent destination for the entire family and The IKF East Coast Muay Thai / Kickboxing Classic. South of the Border has something for everyone!
