IKF Appoints Mostafa Sabeti As New
IKF Iran Representative

With the rapid growth of the IKF this past year, the IKF has been making appointments of leadership in various regions and countries. The most recent appointment is the appointment of Mostafa Sabeti as IKF Iran Chief Representative.

Sabeti of Tehran, Iran has some great ideas for his plans to grow the IKF Iran organization which was a strong part of his appointment. Also assisting him is the fact that he's worked with the IKF since 2010 with him and his fighters participating in the IKF World Classic Tournaments. Sabeti himself is a former kickboxer having close to 100 bouts in his career.

Within the coming weeks Sabeti will begin his own process of selecting his new associates with the blessing on IKF President Steve Fossum and the IKF World Office. "What needs to be done when the beginning team is selected is to schedule a country forum so that everyone can see first hand both the short and long term goals for IKF Iran." says Fossum. "Sabeti has already presented us with a general outline as to how he wants to do this and were in agreement with his idea."

Review as well as further education for coaches, fighters, promoters and event officials are all a top priority for IKF Iran's new structure.

Sabeti also has plans to eventually host a provincial championship following with an Iran National Championship tournament much like the IKF started doing with the current IKF World Classic when it started as the USA National Tournament.

Sabeti and the IKF organization also look forward to working with the Iran Martial Arts Federation who assets with regulation of the sport of Kickboxing through the Iran Government.

The next questions are, "Where are you now?" Have you started your fight career? And if not, "When and Where will you begin?"

With less than 7 days left before the First Deadline to Register for the 5th Annual IKF East Coast Classic, these are questions you may want to ask yourself because the IKF Tournaments are a great way to start, and next up is the 2017 IKF East Coast Classic!

AK Promotions pushed the first deadline forward one day...since the "Big Fight" is this weekend...so you will have until the End of the Day on Monday, August 28th to get registered at the $55 Rate and possibly Get First Seeding Position!

As in previous years this event is held in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on October 6th and 7th, 2017. there will be limited Divisions after Monday as only 4 Fighters are allowed per bracket.

There will be Three Rule Styles, Modified Muay Thai, International and Unified Rules for Men, Women, Juniors and those over the age of 40 (Require Advanced Medicals) can win beautiful belts and championship cups as everyone leaves with some kind of an award

As noted above, this is a LIMITED enrollment Tournament which is limited to a maximum amount of fighters.

IKF East Coast based Promoter Johnny Davis Is Setting The Record Straight
As He Grows Kickboxing & Muay Thai On The East Coast USA!


"We Are Not Afraid of Elbows…We Respect Them!"

I just wanted to say that we at AK Promotions and the IKF are not afraid of Elbows! Not at all!
However, we and let me speak for myself, www.AKPromotions, has a tremendous amount of respect for the Elbows and what they can do if they land in the right spot!

I often hear on social media like Facebook and especially since www.AKPromotions has been back on the East Coast where there was no Muay Thai / Kickboxing to speak of for many years…that many wanted to do elbows right off the bat. Well, the reason why I did not push this early on is because although you have several gyms that teach elbows effectively…too many gyms did / do not at least to the point of competition. Therefore, I took and continue to take great caution before allowing elbows. It does not make sense for a few to do the elbows with serious intent and far too many others only play with them…that is a remedy for someone to get seriously injured as we have seen in some other events.

It's been about 5 years since AK Promotions has been back East. as time moves forward we plan to do a lot more Muay Thai & Kickboxing and Elbows are something that we will again start, but slowly implementing into events but with great CAUTION! In fact, we recently approved Full Rule Muay Thai Fight ( with elbows / padded ) between two qualified ladies out of Georgia who will be fighting for the IKF Full Rule Muay Thai rules Georgia Bantamweight title on September 1st, in Bogart, Georgia at the Athens Arena. More to come on that…

But the point is my promotions company ( www.AKPromotions ) has had several fights sanctioned by the IKF that had elbows and we have crowned several full rule champions! Our 2011 IKF West Coast Classic that we and the IKF did in Sacramento, California had a very successful division of Full Muay Thai rules bouts. The IKF is doing a ton of Full Rule Muay Thai Fights in California…and have for a very long time! And even more around the world. It just sounds strange when I see someone say things that suggest that our organization ( IKF ) does not support the sport fully.

As a promoter, I feel obligated not only to host exciting events and give fighters a platform to showcase their skills but also, I feel that I must help them look out for themselves. Entertainment and competitions is great…but safety is paramount in my mind. To me, it does not make sense for fighters to get busted up…at all…but we know that it's part of the game. However, we need to be careful not to start them to quickly before their defense is properly developed, etc. as the cuts that one might obtain in these bouts could make for a very short career…elbow pads or not.

This is just who I am…if you are willing to take this cautious walk with me…It is much appreciated as we are starting to re-implement elbows into shows but trust that it will always be with the utmost caution in approving or hosting such bouts. So if you want them…start sharpening those tools! Thanks in advance! Forward March!

A sold out crowd braved the South Georgia, USA, heat and humidity for another great IKF Kickboxing and MMA card from IKF Promoters Scott Harper and Jeremy Fuller. They delivered another great mixed martial arts show featuring IKF kickboxing action. The unpleasant conditions did not deter over a thousand fight fans from attending the "Armbars and Guitars" event at the scenic Southeastern Arena in Nicholls, Georgia.

The Coffee County, Georgia, event began a bit earlier than usual. Then, after 4 fights, as the sun dropped in the sky to the west and became directly visible beneath the Arena canopy, a string-based band serenaded the audience to the eastern side of the arena until the sun fully set, at which point the action resumed. IKF action featured the fight of the night. Kristopher Boyd (brother of IKF knockout artist Keegan Boyd) was the victor of that match.

    This was the fight of the night of all the matches at this event INCLUDING 2 Pro MMA title fights. Metheny exhibited a great deal of prowess in the Unified Rules style. He had excellent leg kicks and knees. However, Boyd was too strong for him. Metheny took a Standing 8 Count from Referee Kemp in Round 1 after receiving a spinning back kick to the body from Boyd. Later in Round 2, Boyd hit Metheny with a tremendous body hook that resulted in Referee Kemp stopping the match for Metheny's safety.
    WINNER: Kristopher Boyd by TKO at 0:49 of Round 2.
    REFEREE: Jeff Kemp
    Metheny was issued a 45 Day medical suspension by the IKF until cleared by a physician for possible rib injury.

Kru Pol of Nine Limbs Strikers of New Bern, North Carolina pulled out all the stops for her IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Sparring Tournament this past Saturday!

We knew in advance that the tournament would be a success based on all of the pre-registered fighters but it did not stop there! Men, Women and Juniors from 5 years old to over 40 lined up at the door that morning to add their names to the pile of those that would compete that day for nice awards and the opportunity to test their skills!

Kru Pol, not only has a very nice facility but a wonderful staff that assisted with the event and helped make it a tremendous success! The event would get started on time with a detailed safety rules' meeting and a Wai Kru Dance performed by Kru Pol and one of her top students that set the tone for a wonderful event to follow! Kru Pol is also proving that she really knows the sport of Muay Thai well as her fighters are showing enormous improvements in their skills as evident in the awards they took home this past weekend! In other words, she is making it clear, when you come to New Bern, NC, you better bring your "A" Game!

We also would like to thank the house full of exciting fans that cheered on all the fighters and had a great time watching all of the action! Our IKF/ PKB Officials did an awesome job calling the matches and we are thankful for their professionalism and time! Multiple World Professional Champion Mr. Dennis Lane and Chief IKF Official Mr. Scott McMillan along with assistance from some of the trainers Mr. J.T. Smith of Lake Norman Muay Thai in Mooresville, NC and Mrs. T.K. King of United Muay Thai of Raleigh, NC …all did a great job!

I would be remiss not to mention that it was great meeting WKA President and trainer Mr. Brian Crenshaw of Richmond Virginia who not only brought a couple of talented fighters but also spent much of the day assisting with judging and I even saw him picking up chairs and trash at the end of the event! Now that was classy, Thank you Sir!

It just goes to show…if we let our passion for the sport shine and be at the forefront that we can indeed work together in taking our sport to its deserving magnitude! We have to get some of the backbiting and disrespect out of the sport in order for us to begin to rise! We must stop talking down on a promoter who is committed to giving their all to this sport we all love.

Everyone… take a step back and ask yourself if you are serving the sport well or only your selfish desires! We recognize that some of us do this as a business but I truly believe with enough respect and communication that we can have our regions, dates and events and those of us that do a good job in treating fighters and trainers well, can survive in this game and do so…without trying to squash everyone else!
