A look back at the event from Promoter Colin Payne

So…KOMBAT ZONE last night.
Some know of course that we had LOADS of issues in the run up to the show, so has to be top 5 I guess all time problem show…however on the night it went brilliantly, a top 5 all time KOMBAT ZONE event I would say or damn close anyway.

The thank you part of this will go on a bit, as I do have a lot of people to thank for helping me out along the way, so let's start with the action…which was I felt brilliant! Some great match ups and some that surprised on the night with how good they were.

Gasan Gindra (combat academy) v Tommy West (assassins), brilliant display of Junior K1… Sham Singh (TKO Elite) v Arjun Rai (Storm) got us underway with a very nice fight, great way to start…..James Kelly (Black Dragon, Ireland), the punch of the night and I have to say massive kudos to George French (HKA) for stepping up to take this fight, be proud of yourself mate….Tyler Hughes v Sam Beal (TKO Elite), a nice fight, Tyler pushed him all the way….Safeerullah Safie (TKO Elite) was fast off the blocks in his boxing fight and caught a very brave Luigiano Wills (PWA) with a good shot in the second and that was it, but well done to Luigiano who stepped in at short notice for us…Matt Geere (Locks MA) kept his title with a very controlled performance against Dan Wright (HKA) who couldn't quite get to grips with Matt's Kicks……Seth Housley (Combat academy) v Luke Wallace (Falcons), brilliant and very close British Junior title fight, I was downstairs sadly for most of this one but could hear the noise clearly, brilliant atmosphere, well done to Luke who took a close decision….another close match up followed with Shane Nolan (Semtex) taking the area K1 title against Marlon Gillett (Double K) a tough fight, close decision….Simon Medhurst (FCA) scored his second win at KOMBAT ZONE with a stoppage against Lewis Corps. Lewis has come through an amazing journey to get back in that ring, he's someone I consider a good mate as well as my fighter and I'm very proud of what he's done, just wasn't his night

Our international team challenge was fantastic!!..could not have gone better. MASSIVE thank to our new friend Maxence Lamouret and his team. Fight 1 Liudas Prusinskis Jr. and Rahman Tsobelev, a great junior K1 fight, very close, but 1-0 to France….A big stoppage win for France's Issam barak in the second match up over Nick Lelliott (HKA) and 2-0 France…then the home team came back.. Charlie Stone (TKO Elite) boxing Florian Leuleu scored a third round KO after a brilliant and very tough fight, Charlie boxed to orders, did fantastic and well deserved win for a hard working member of our team… Phoebe Cumiskey got our next win, who can doubt her?!, another great performance, the girl gets better all the time and will be back at KOMBAT ZONE next February…and so the final match between Tony Dewaelle and Kyle Payne would decide it and after a shaky start Kyle was back to form and took a clear win over a tough opponent. Great win and real pleasure for me and Kyle to have Simon Marsden in the corner with us. Great to see you there mate, words can't do justice to your loss, but you face it with a bravery and dignity to be proud of. It meant a lot to Kyle I know as it did for me for you to work with us and hope we can look forward to seeing you again.

World title fight
A win and world title for Alex Hook, a win and title well deserved for a lad who I've been proud to have played just a small part in his development since he fought on early Battle of Kent events through to promoting him at KOMBAT ZONE. Big congratulations to coach Lewis Pears who has done great work with him and his other team of fighters and have become one of the most successful gyms on the circuit in such a short time. Corey O'Malley came to fight and it was great contest as he pushed Alex all the way before Alex got the stoppage win, a nice way to win a title.

An outstanding Team, outstanding fans and outstanding fighters this past weekend in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA for Mr. Dan Jakrapop Ruangrit King's IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Sparring Tournament … made for an Outstanding event as well!

It takes a great team to build a solid business and its clear that Mr. King and his wife Ying have done a great job building solid team and it shows in the success of their Martial business that teaches Muay Thai! We had the opportunity to work with their seasoned team this past weekend and they showed that they are professional, kind and highly respectful! All of the aforementioned attributes made for a smooth running IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Sparring Tournament and everyone in attendance seemed to have had a great time!

Fighters traveled from North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Washington and did their thing in providing great entertainment for the packed house of fight fans! From the Medical Staff, Officials and other volunteers, everyone did a superb job!

Saturday, Sept. 9th, marked another successful IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing Sparring event hosted by Mr. Byran Keith and Former multiple time World Champion Mr. Manu Ntoh! To put it simply…it was a marvelous display by all involved especially the Trainers, Fighters and Fans that filled the Madhouse Gym in Smyrna GA!

The event was also a small fundraiser for Mr. Nathan Waddle who was injured in Kickboxing event but had participated in an IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing event in the past. Those in attendance along with the promoters of the event raised another $230 to go along with other donations they have made to Mr. Waddle's GoFundMe account.

The next event which will include a Full Contact Fight Night hosted by IKF Promoter Mr. Bryan Keith ( Blackeye Athletics) on November 17th followed by another IKF/PKB Sparring event on the next day ( Saturday, November 18th) will be another fundraiser for Mr. Waddle to assist him with some of his medical expenses…every penny counts!

Special Thanks to the Bunker Muay Thai Team out of Atlanta, Georgia for getting the Most Participants Award! They had a very enthusiastic group and some talented fighters… Congratulations!

With this being the first event with IKF Full Rule Muay Thai, the crowd got a special treat and really enjoyed the action! There were several notable fights on this quaint card and all fighters gave a great showing! In the main event, Amanda Anderson of Athens, Georgia won the IKF Georgia State Bantamweight Full Rule Muay Thai Title with a Unanimous Decision win over tough Chloe Greeley of Atlanta, Georgia! Congratulation to both ladies for a great showing!

The IKF Muay Thai / Kickboxing show will return at the Athens Arena on Friday, December 1st, 2017.

Did You Know...
This Incredible Ride Started Just Over
25 Years Ago...

The very first IKF Event was on August 1st, 1992 at the Roseville Fairgrounds, in Roseville, California, USA. IKF President Steve Fossum was the promoter and the plan was for Fossum to host 3 IKF events to get things kicked off, which he did.

However, he didn't have to because the new ideas on how to run a sanctioning body brought new light to the world of Kickboxing.

So, who might you know from that first event? Well, the very first IKF bout was won by a fighter named John Haun when he defeated a fighter named David Griffiths by unanimous decision, 30-26, 29-27, 30-27. Haun was trained by a well known boxing and kickboxing trainer named Nasser Niavaroni.

In bout two was a fighter named Mike Kollin. Mike fought the second IKF bout ever and defeated Ethan Nutter of Sacramento, CA by unanimous decision, 29-28, 29-28, 29-28.

One of the Judges on that event, and was also the first trainer of a well known world champion you may have heard of, Dennis Alexio was a judge named is Eugene Ray.

Referee Jon Schorle was appointed by the California State Athletic Commission for that event and he did pretty well, considering it was his first ever job as a referee for kickboxing. Jon had been a boxing referee, but doing kickboxing was new to him. He did so well, he worked the majority of the IKF event for years.

As a trainer, Dan Stell welcomed the first title bout win of one of his fighters as his top dog Jim Brown defeated Ken Morgan by TKO at :56 seconds of round 3. Jim become the very first IKF title holder.

SECOND IKF EVENT...
Surprisingly it was a PRO Kickboxing event. After that first event and the distribution of what would be known as "The Book" of kickboxing, which was a book that was created by Fossum for the monthly IKF ranking and news booklet. After amateur kickboxers were ranked into the book, Pro kickboxers started making calls asking how they could get into the book. What followed was the IKF's second event on October 16th, 1992 in Honolulu Hawaii. On this event, Ramona "EAGLE" Gatto of San Jose, CA, USA (25-1) won the IKF Woman's Pro International Rules World Featherweight Title to become the first IKF Woman's Champion, the first IKF PRO Champion and the first IKF World Champion when she KO'ed Debbie Page of Albq, New Mexico, USA.

THIRD IKF EVENT...
Well some of you may know a guy today as "Stitch" Jacob Duran... Well, before he was a famous cutman, Jacob was a trainer and promoted his first event as an IKF sanctioned event.

"Fireworks in Farifield" by Jacob Duran was held on October 17th, 1992 at Solano College in Fairfield, California. One of Duran's fighters, Mike Kollin fought on that event too collecting his second win in a row when he defeated Darren Cromwell by TKO at 1:52 of round 1.

Another one of Duran's fighters, Randy Bussart started his IKF career on this event. Randy was already 4-1 as a kickboxer and collected his first piece of IKF Gold on the event as he won the IKF FCR United States Light Middleweight Title when he defeated Noe Apilado of Concord, California by TKO at :48 seconds of Round 2.

The referee for that event was someone well known to the Strikeforce kickboxing crew with Hall of Fame promoter Scott Coker, Tony Thompson.

Believe it or not, these first IKF bouts were 25 years ago, making 2017 year the 25th Anniversary of when Steve Fossum and Dan Stell created the IKF. The IKF has been blessed to see a lot of Super Stars all around the world and they continue to be blessed with their work today.
