This encounter was straight out of the top drawer as two of Europe's most skilful fighters squared off for the IKF European title. From the first bell the exchanges were fast and furious with neither man giving ground. But it was Kalem John who was stronger and applied more pressure. This came in the form of counter combinations. Abou Ka would deliver a quality three shot combination which John would respond with five or six at a time. Throughout the contest John's counter work rate was higher, and each time Ka attempted to pressure his man, John would catch the kick and counter, or step off and straight back in.

Each round was close but fairly clear as Kalem John built up a commanding lead. Abou Ka knew from the 4th round that he needed a stoppage and applied pressure accordingly. But John went with him and simply stepped up a gear to finish the contest as clear winner and new Champion!

IKF Promoter's Kristina Raper and Jose Perez held a benefit event for the Lowndes Police Athletic League this past Saturday, December 8th, 2018. "The Fight for Valdosta" featured a great card of IKF amateur kickboxing including a brilliant match between two highly ranked IKF amateur kickboxers. Even the wet, cool weather couldn't keep local fans away from this great show at the White Tiger Martial Arts Academy. The Azalea City fans where present by the hundreds, along with fans from as far away as California and North Carolina. Established kickboxers had great showings and new stars rose.

Number 10 IKF ranked contender, Mikey Shaw (IKF Rankings) and his entourage flew in to South Georgia to face former 2017 IKF World Classic International Rules Champion, Sebastian Rivera. Muay Thai specialist Shaw dominated the last two rounds following a back and forth 1st round. Characteristic of a great sportsman, Rivera congratulated Shaw hardly at the end of the match.

This was Rivera's second defeat in his last two outings having lost to Anthony Saeger by unanimous decision back on the IKF sanctioned "229 Fights Round 2" on June 23rd of this year in Valdosta, Georgia.

For Shaw it was part of his comback bid after having lost in his last two bouts. His last was earlier this year to former 2017 IKF World Classic Muay Thai Champion Andrew Capurro (Oakland, California, USA, 13-9-1/5) by KO at 1:52 of round 1 back on February 25th, 2018 in Oakland, CA on the IKF sanctioned "Triumphant - Muay Thai Series 3" event. Capurro who was also won the IKF Amateur Full Muay Thai Rules California Light Welterweight title on the IKF sanctioned "Bay Area Challenge Muay Thai Series" on November 22nd, 2014 in Petaluma, California (Defeating Raheem Davis of Vallejo, California, 5-1, by TKO at 1:54 of round 4) made his Pro debut on the IKF sanctioned "Triumphant - Muay Thai Series 4" this past May 27th, 2018 in Oakland, California defeating Zach Ungureit of Hawaii, USA by unanimous decision. Shaw's other loss ws on the IKF sanctioned "Muay Thai Global 11" way back on January 28th, 2017 in Elk Grove, California to undefeated number 4 IKF ranked contender, Mike Martinez (IKF Rankings) of East Los Angeles, California (12-0) by by split decision.

Shaw hopes to have made quite an impression to the Georgia fight fans and by getting back on a win streak hopes to have his hand raised many more times. Maybe we will see him at an IKF World Classic soon.

Local stars, Austin Williams and Jake Lyons, had an excellent showing in their freshman IKF outings! Valdosta City Fireman Williams gave an aerial athletic display until IKF Referee Josh Rutgers stepped in to save his opponent from a flurry of punches. Fireman Jake Lyons displayed great intestinal fortitude to overcome adversity and stop his talented opponent via powerful body shots when his opponent submitted between rounds due to rib injury.

Local MMA pioneers James Marino and Shawn Snow participated in an exhibition match. The semi-contact match was a treat to Valdosta-area fight fans. Snow and Marino graciously volunteered their services to benefit the Lowndes Police Athletic League.
