In What Was His Final "Big"
Event As A Promoter, An enthusiastic 'post' lockdown crowd, packed into this iconic venue to show support for a promoter who has constantly worked to improve quality and standards. It was fitting that many of the coaches in attendance this evening, started their careers on Colin Paynes early events and have gone on to produce quality competitors of their own. Across the levels this evening, the standards were once again very high, and to single out any particular fighters, although resonating around the social media platforms, was this between Bran-don Elliott and Tim Tucker, certainly two to watch for the future. Carla Hesselgrave made a fairly comfortable defence of her IKF British title, but Jessica Fleisher stood firm and dangerous until the final bell. It was also good to see old enemies Craig Doughlin and Glen Merritt square off again, this time the spoils going to Doughlin. We wish Colin Payne good luck for the future and Thank Him for his service and support to the IKF! IKF

HEADGEAR
/ SHIN PAD WAIVER FOR NO HEADGEAR BOUT APPROVAL
If you claim to have 3 or more bouts even if some of them were not on IKF Sanctioned Events, and you Do Not Want To Fight With Headgear and Shin Pads you must submit to the IKF an IKF PAST BOUT HISTORY / EXPERIENCE FORM: CLICK HERE.
As many here reading this info who are associated with the IKF know, here in California, all Amateur fighters, OVER the age of 18, have a chance to not wear Headgear as well as Shin pads. Actually, this IKF Rule applies around the world "IF" a State Athletic Commission also has the same option rule which is basically;
If an Amateur fighter can PROVE they have fought in 3 or more bouts and their opponent can prove the same, both fighters do not have to wear headgear or shin pads.
Now... This seems pretty simple. However, a vast majority of fighter's and trainer's don't fully understand what kind of PROOF we here at the IKF are allowed to accept. For many who desire to shed the headgear, it's almost like they do not want to do the work, make an effort, put in the work to try and find 3 bouts they fought in.
The IKF website has always been a great way to find fight results and prove a fighter's bout claims because the IKF documents every IKF bout. These result are found listed somewhere on the IKF website..
It may indeed take some work to prove your experience but the IKF is not going to stick their neck on the line just to take off headgear. IF a fighter who did not wear headgear were to get hurt, the main two questions all the doctors, lawyers and commissions will ask the IKF are;
You see, we CAN'T approve a fighter with just paperwork or just on someone's word. We may very well believe you, however, **rules are rules and we and every other sanctioning body and or State / Province Commission are required to follow such rules. Especially when it concerns the health and safety of a fighter.
Our suggestion to you is to DOCUMENT EVERY BOUT you fight in. Have someone film it, keep press clippings, copy web articles, keep ANY and ALL physical evidence of your bouts that you can, because they won't only help you in the case of headgear, but if you ever want to fight for a title, you will be asked to prove your fight record for that too.
(**) MY PERSONAL THOUGHTS HEADGEAR IN GENERAL
I personally never wore headgear in any of my Amateur bouts, and I turned out fine. Today's modern MMA {Mixed Martial Arts} fighter, even an Amateur with NO Bout experience who has NEVER had any style of full contact fight in his entire life (Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA), can step into a cage or ring with NO Headgear and depending on the state, only wear 4-6 ounce gloves with VERY LITTLE Padding and fight without headgear.
In EVERY Other Full Contact Fight Sport,
(Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai)
EVERY Amateur Fighter is wearing at
the very least, 10 ounce boxing gloves that are heavily
padded at the striking surface.
So tell me, WHERE is the health and safety logic in that? And we wonder why MMA is such an exciting sport to watch, even at the Amateur level. Even Amateur boxing now has set up a special division where amateur boxers are allowed to shed their headgear, even in the Olympic games.
Don't get me wrong, I get it, all the health and safety claims. However Headgear does NOT save a fighter from traumatic brain injury. In fact, it may increase head trauma and brain injury because the fighter wearing the headgear is more apt to think he or she is safe so they just take the blow.
I could write a book on this topic. Mainly so because of the research I've done on the topic over the years. I've witnessed several traumatic outcomes from full contact fighting, even death. However, I've witnessed death from fighter's wearing headgear and fighter not wearing headgear.
However, regardless of what I've witnessed, it is my obligation as a regulatory body, as well as others around the world, to follow the rules and regulations required of myself and our sanctioning organizations (IKF, ISCFMMA,IAB Boxing and IKFPKB) in every region around the world overseen by the various government athletic commissions that are required to regulate health and safety. Who knows, maybe someday we can do away with the mandatory headgear rule for Kickboxer's and or Muay Thai fighter's with 2 fights or less - Meaning if you can only prove 2 fights, you still need to wear headgear for the next one. If a vote came up, after all I've seen, researched, etc. I would say headgear should only be required at these times;
What are your thoughts, at least those of you who made it
this far.
Headgear or no headgear?
