Despite 'Charley'...
The 2004
IKF/TKO NAC Sets
NEW FIGHTER ATTENDANCE RECORD!
4:15 AM Orlando Florida, USA: Todays headline in the Orlando Sentinel reads "CHARLEY RIPS ACROSS FLORIDA". However, it seems it will take a lot more than a punch and a kick by some unknown fighter named Charley to hold back North America's Greatest Amateur Kickboxers!
Starting at 9:30 today, a record setting 217 (Revised today 8-14 when Indianapolis, Indiana Team showed up) Amateur Kickboxers (Breaking the previous record of 206 actual fighters who will fight during the tournament) will begin their quest to be called the "Best Amateur Kickboxer in North America" in the 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic taking place at the dynamic Wyndham Palace Resort and Spa in the Walt Disney World Resort. The actual number that showed up though were 215 fighters. However opponents for both Adrian Turpin of Anderson South Carolina, USA and Charles Pemble Marquette, Michigan, USA failed to show leaving them with no bout.
Although other headlines will read things like 'Hurricane Charley Devastates Western Florida' all of us here had our attention on something more than an out of control Hurricane. One by one fighters registered and ALL MADE WEIGHT as they prepared for the event of the year. On Saturday there will be 66 full contact rules preliminary bouts and 27 Muay Thai and International Rules bouts. Come Championship Sunday a total of 60 IKF/TKO North American Champions will be crowned. Of them, 35 will be in the Full Contact Rules division while 25 will be under MuayThai and International Rules.
Some other stats to look at, only 1 Junior fighter failed to show at registrations, 4 Adult Women and 18 Adult Men. Of them, only *2 properly notified the IKF they would not be able to attend. Here below are the fighters who were "NO SHOWS" at the official Registrations & Weigh-Ins.
Well regardless of who didn't show, one things for certain...
213 of North America's Greatest Amateur Kickboxers will be "Walking The
Walk" this weekend with a superior Team of Event Officials and Event
Staff. Simply put, "There is going to be a PARTY at the
Wyndham
Palace Resort and Spa in the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida, USA
and too bad some of you couldn't make it...
Look for a late update tonight
as well as a link to the IKF Radio/TV
Broadcast of the days bouts on Internet Radio.
THURSDAY, August 12th, 2004, AT 10:00 AM, PT
IKF Orlando, Florida, USA - 1:00 Florida Time: Like many others, we here at the IKF Headquarters in Orlando Florida are watching the news in relation to the coming tropical storms very closely for this years 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic here at the Wyndham Palace Resort and Spa in the Walt Disney World Resort. From what we are told, there is no real worry here in Orlando since we are so far inland. Yes, we "ARE" getting some big rain bursts but that's nothing new since it rains here in Orlando every day. However, no one we speak to around the city here and from what we see on the local news are too worried about any major weather problems. However, we will keep you posted as we are updated.
Even though Orlando Airport has told us today that they do not expect any flight delays, we want everyone to know that "IF" your flight is delayed due to storm related conditions here in Orlando, we will work with you and allow late registrations and weigh-ins. All we ask is that you call the hotel to inform us of your possible delay and direct your message to IKF Kickboxing.
Other than that, many of the fighters and trainers have already started to arrive here and as we have noted on the Message Board several times, we are here with all the awards and ready to "Walk The Walk" with everyone else. See you all soon.
PS: Full updates will be given daily on the IKF Classic Radio program on Saturday and Sunday nights. Look for the radio site (Which will be available in video streaming too) address to be posted sometime tomorrow.

IKF Pro
World Title Bout
Added To Corley's
BATTLE OF ATLANTA
IKF Atlanta, Georgia, USA: IKF Promoter Joe Corley (Right) is ready to bring back some of the greatest memories of kickboxing. Corley will once again bring back PKA KICKBOXING, (Promotional company, not a sanctioning body) when he features the quest for the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Super Heavyweight World Title as part of his main event lineup for the famous BATTLE OF ATLANTA coming to Atlanta, Georgia, USA this September 10 & 11.
"Atlanta's Mark Selbee (6'4", 215 lbs. 20-0, 18 KO's and #1 World Heavyweight contender) will be facing Montreal's Raoul Doucet (6'5", 225 lbs. 14-2-1, 7 KO's and #1 World Super Heavyweight contender) for 12 rounds of PKA KICKBOXING to fill the vacant IKF World Super Heavyweight title", Master Corley explained.
" The Battle of Atlanta has been the breeding ground for many of our world's greatest champions, from Bill "Superfoot" Wallace to Joe Lewis and Jeff Smith", reported PKC (Professional Karate Commission) President Glenn Keeney (Left). The Battle has also been home of some of the most historic kickboxing matches of all time, from the first title defense of Corley vs. Wallace, Smith vs. Slocki, Rhome vs. Hefton, Theriault vs. Thurman and where Rick Roufus won his first world title.
"We are proud to be a part of Mr. Corley's event" Said IKF President Steve Fossum (Right). "For those who don't know, Mr. Corley brought kickboxing to TV in a big way. We first worked with him back in 1994 at Caesar's Tahoe in Nevada on a live Showtime PPV event. We co-sanctioned the event that featured Rick Roufus and Juan Torres fighting for World Titles. The event also had Dennis Alexio on it. We look forward to supporting 'ANY' plans he has with the sport."
Atlanta's Mark Selbee and Canadian Raoul Doucet should make for this same kind of excitement. With 450 pounds of black belt intensity, 37 wins and 25 knockouts between them, it should be a BATTLE OF ATLANTA classic knockout event! "This matchup is part of a double main event the other half of which features Corley's PKA WORLD POINT FIGHTING CHAMPIONSHIP.
"NASKA has now rated the top ten Point Karate fighters in the country based on their head-to-head results over the past year(s), and they are every bit as dynamic as their predecessors of yesteryear. They will be joined by 6 Battle of Atlanta champions and fight down this night to the BEST OF THE BEST!" explained Corley.
Speaking of the BEST, Atlanta's travel expert Lynn Gregory suggests that you go to www.airtran.com and www.delta.com for the best airfares available. "It's a great one day sale, with fares as low as $49", she reports. "Check it out and make your reservations for special Battle hotel rates as well on line at the Battle site (look under Quick Facts and save BIG $$ per night at Hyatt Regency Atlanta)." For more info on this event please call (770) 998-4610 or E-mail Mr. Corley at pkajoecor@aol.com

Another
Reminder For
JUNIOR FIGHTERS
Coming To
THE CLASSIC!
This is A FINAL reminder
for all Junior age fighters and their parents and trainers coming to the
IKF/TKO North American Classic in August in Orlando, Florida. As in the
past, "ALL" JUNIOR Division
fighters (Ages 8-17) are required to bring a COPY
of their birth certificate or a STATE PHOTO ID
to be shown to the IKF Registration staff
at Friday's Registration to CONFIRM their age. A "Copy" of a Junior
age fighters birth certificate will be accepted,
a "State Photo ID" would of
course be much better and greatly appreciated by those providing them.
As brought up recently on the
Message Board:
As for the worry of someone making changes to their child's/students birth
certificate just so their child/fighter could fight younger, less experienced
fighters is simply the lowest thing we can imagine. We can only hope here, in
the IKF that no parent or trainer would
stoop so low. We can only hope that "HONOR AND HONESTY" are
still apart of our sport.
If they do not have a birth certificate or other form of LEGAL
ID stating their legal age at registration and we cannot confirm their LEGAL age
by any LEGAL document, they will be dropped from the
Tournament.
PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE
AND PLEASE PASS THIS INFO
AROUND.
Sincerely
IKF Headquarters

A Final
Look At The Numbers
For The 2004
IKF/TKO
North
American Classic!
Here below is a final look at the Numbers for the 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic Tournament before we depart for Orlando tomorrow on Sunday, August 8th. Remember, the "ATTENDING" record is 207. So we would need to lose a lot of fighters between now and weigh-ins to not break that record which was set in 2002 in Kansas City.
For those who have had to make the decision to pull out, please don't feel like you have to apologize to us here at the IKF. Please save your apologies for your opponents in your divisions. Some have suggested certain fighters have pulled out of the event to hurt the IKF. Hey, here's a 411 for those thinking this... "You are not hurting us any, you are only hurting yourself and the fighters in your bracket!" You see, we plan to be in Orlando this next weekend with a lot of fighters and trainers who will be "Walking The Walk" for the Sport of KICKBOXING! We will be there whether there is one bout or 181. We will have with us 62, 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic Title Belts to award to 62 North American Champions. These Belts are done, packed and ready to go to Orlando along with the medals, certificates and much more!
This event is much bigger than the letters IKF. This event represents the "SPORT
of Kickboxing!" If anything, we feel sorry for those who cannot
make it to the event because we have seen what you will be missing out on. We
have seen it for the last 5 years and each year it keeps getting better and
better for everyone. So if you can't make it to "The Classic", take a moment to explain
yourself to those in your division, maybe even use the
Message Board. Some won't be there because we
had no match for them while some had other personal things that got in the way.
Regardless, don't just "NO SHOW" without explaining yourself
to others. The Message Board. is a great place for this, make
use of it the best you can.
In closing... We feel sorry for all of those
who won't be at the Classic this next weekend because they are going to miss the
Greatest Amateur Kickboxing Event of the year. We plan to be
there no matter what, and we hope to see you there too!

Changes
& Reminders For
THE SHOW!
Time is ticking everyone and it will soon be GO TIME
for
"THE SHOW!"
Here are some CHANGES and
REMINDERS for this years
2004
IKF/TKO North American Classic in
Orlando Florida.
WEIGH-IN &
REGISTRATION
START TIME HAS CHANGED!
2:30 PM - 7:PM
The beginning of weigh-ins was
originally scheduled for 12 noon however, due to some circumstances the start
time for the official weigh-ins and fighter/trainer registrations will begin at
2:30. So, don't expect to come weigh-in and register at 12 noon. We will be
setting up the venue at 12 noon - 2:00. We will see
you at 2:30. IKF World
Ambassador Brooks Mason
(R) will weigh-in all fighters. Oh and for those who care to lend a
hand, we will greatly appreciate all the help we can get. To read more in
regards to the event weigh-ins CLICK HERE.
Upon completion of your
registration and making your weight you will be given your Official Fighter
Pass. DO NOT LOSE THIS PASS! To read more
about the passes, CLICK HERE.
RULES & WELCOME MEETING
7:05 PM - 7:50 PM:
Immediately following
the weigh-ins and fighter registrations will be the MANDATORY
Fighter/Trainer Rules & Welcome Meeting. This will begin at
approximately 7:05 PM and will take place at the end of the Empire Ballroom.
Speakers will be using the ring without the ropes on it as the stage so everyone
can easily see them. We need to STRESS
that this meeting is MANDATORY
for ALL Fighters, Trainers & Event Officials. Those not in
attendance will be DROPPED from the event unless they have made other
arrangements with us here at IKF
Headquarters.
EVENT OFFICIALS MEETING
8:15 PM - 9:30 PM:
ALL Event Officials and any
fighter, or trainer with an official
2004 event pass are welcome to attend the event Officials Seminar following the
Rules & Welcome Meeting. This Seminar/Meeting will review all scoring and
rules with those in attendance to assure all are up to date and ready for the
event. The most important message we have for all of our event officials is to "Stay
Focused on each and every 'MOMENT' of fighting. To
us, we will see over 150 bouts, but to each fighter and trainer, only ONE
counts." If you wish to attend this meeting you will need to
request invitation at fighter registration with Mr. Dan Stell. This
meeting will be run by IKF Head of
Officials Dan Stell, IKF Chief
Official Mike Storm and IKF world
Ambassador Brooks Mason.
This meeting will take place in the West Minister Room which is outside
the Empire Ballroom
AIRPORT SHUTTLE

For those using "MEARS
TRANSPORTATION" Airport Shuttle, you need to have a coupon for the
$5.00 off per person. MEARS has given us a coupon for the event and you
can attain one by printing them off. To go to this coupon page

FIGHTER PHOTOS
If by the
end of today you still have a "NEED PHOTO"
in RED listed by your name on your fighter
registration page (Men, Women, Juniors) you will be paying for your photo to be
put on your Fighter Pass. If you have a "Passport Size"
headshot, already cut at about 1 & 1/4 inches in size, you will pay $10.00.
If we have to take your photo, your pass will cost you $15.00.
COACHES - CORNERMEN
HEADSHOT PHOTO
Like every year, there are
a lot of people who try to sneak into these events claiming to be assistant
trainers etc. etc. For this reason we charge for an Official IKF Finals Tournament Event Cornerman/Trainers
Badge. The other reason for this is to police each fighters corner so that only
Registered Cornermen and Trainers are in each fighters corner in the
ring area. Only registered cornermen will be allowed into each fighters corner
and in the ring area (The PIT!) as well as the locker room area. The
cost of each Official IKF/TKO North American Classic Event Cornerman/Trainers
Badge for the entire weekend is $10.00 and
you MUST HAVE A HEADSHOT PHOTO OF YOURSELF
no larger than 2 inches X 2 inches. If we have to take your picture for
your badge the fee will be $15.00.
Cornermen and Trainers will register on Friday during the hours of 2:30 PM and
7:PM with all the fighters in the Empire Ballroom. For Badge info
EQUIPMENT
TKO
Sports is the Official Main Event Sponsor of the
2004 IKF/TKO
North American Classic. TKO is also the Official Sponsor of
Golden Gloves Boxing. TKO has provided us
once again with all the fight gloves for the Tournament.
TKO
has also provided headgear and shin pads for fighters to use that do not have
these items. This is an IKF Sanctioned
event which means ALL Amateur Fighters wear headgear and since this is an
amateur event, ALL the fighters will be wearing headgear.
HEADGEAR:
Please keep watch of the "Style" of headgear some fighters
have been wearing in Amateur
competition. As many here know, it is illegal for an IKF
Amateur fighter to use any "Training" style headgear. This has
always been described as headgear with a jaw bar across the front of the jaw.
However, there are other headgears that are NOT allowed in IKF Amateur competition. Headgear that are sold with
the word "Training" in there title are not legal "Competition"
headgear for IKF Amateur Kickboxing. (Just
like they are not allowed in USA Amateur Boxing) The issue with "TRAINING"
Headgears is that they usually have the large ear padding or the jaw bars. When
you look at the LEGAL Competition Headgear you will notice there is no Jaw Bar
and the Ears are far less padded. Training Headgear range between 16 - 18
ounces depending on the size while Competition headgear is 10 ounces.
Here
are some photos of both styles.
NOT |
LEGAL |
FIGHTERS MUST HAVE
All
Fighters must provide their own Mouthpiece, Handwraps, Groin or Pelvic
Protector & Shin Pads. Shin pads should be taped with "WHITE"
athletic tape ONLY over their straps to
secure their fit. All Full Contact Rules fighters must have their own
foot boots that completely cover the heel and cover over the top of ALL of their
toes and are taped with "WHITE" athletic tape ONLY to secure them to their feet.
IKF HOSPITALITY SUITE
Like
every year, IKF World Ambassador
Brooks Mason
(R) hosts several private and public meetings in the official IKF Hospitality Suite. This year
Mr. Mason
will be in the Hotel's Townhouse Suite located on the lobby level of the
Hotel. To find out when Mr.
Mason's doors will be open please get in touch with him during
the event.
This should cover the basics for everyone as of now.
Look
for more updates as we get closer to event time.
OUT OF OFFICE
We
need to remind you all, don't bother calling the IKF Headquarters after tomorrow (Saturday,
August 7th). We will all be leaving for Orlando on Sunday afternoon and
arriving there Wednesday so we won't get any phone messages after Sunday until
we return to the IKF
Headquarters on August 30th. So if you need any assistance, please e-mail us at
main@ikfkickboxing.com
WEDNESDAY, August 4th, 2004, AT 11: 55 PM, PT POWERHOUSE IKF
Phoenix, Arizona, USA: Josh Pickthall was going to fight Shane Brenner from Camp Verde, Arizona, but the promoter was called at 4:PM and was told that Shane injured his ankle just this last weekend playing basketball, so he could not take the fight. The obvious question here is "Why wait until only three hours before the fight to make such a call?" So on last minute notice, Arturo Ortega from the Hard Knocks Gym who had not been Kickboxing for two years, took an exhibition match with Pickthall. Efrem Martinez had two fighters pull out on him, however Daniel Baxter step into the ring after not training for a year and a half to do another exhibition match. Richie Hightower was going to fight Steve Steinbeiss from ACS but he pulled out for unknown reasons. Todd Whitmoyer jumped in after not training for a year and a half to help out the event. All three exhibition matches had the fans on their feet the whole time. Thanks guy's for a great Show. Multi time IKF National Amateur Tournament Champion Alyssa De Fazio came to help also, by doing a Boxing exhibition match with Linda Soto. It was a great match and Alyssa looked outstanding as always. They also had three other boxing exhibition matches. Now on to the fights that counted. The semi main event was for the IKF Light Heavyweight IR Arizona State Title with Christopher Terry Vs. Oscar Montano. It started out fast and furious with Terry coming out hard and hurting Montano with a combo, but Montano showed us why he was the National Champion. He came right back and landed a combo of punches and a right roundhouse kick to the head of Terry and down he went! But Terry got up at the count of seven and the round ended. That was the beginning of the end for Terry. He tried to come back hard in round 2, but Montano would just pick up the pace more and Terry went down again in the second round too. The third round Montano ended the fight for Terry with a combo of punches and kicks and down Terry went with his corner stopping the fight. Terry wanted to go on, but his corner said No. So the New IKF Pro IR Arizona State Light Heavyweight Champion is Oscar Montano. Now to our Main event with IKF Light Middleweight World Champion Anthony Powerhouse Bartinelli Vs. Shannon The Cannon Ritch. The Cannon came out hard after the Powerhouse with some hard kick to the head and some jumping Right hands to Bartinelli. But Bartinelli took his time and shot down the ring on the Ritch and hit him with some combo's, then hit the Cannon with a right uppercut and straight right hand and down went the Cannon. Ritch got up at the count of eight but was doing the wave on the ropes and the referee stop the fight at 1:32 of the 1st round. It looked like the uppercut broke the Cannon's nose. So the Powerhouse moves his record to 12 - 0 with 11 KO's. Bartinelli said after the fight, "It felt great being back in the Kickboxing ring and I'm looking forward to another World Title Fight." For more info please contact Mr. Clement Vierra at (602) 722-3216 or by e-mail at HARDKNOCKSGYM@aol.com MONDAY, August 2nd, 2004, AT 9:00 PM, PT Lets Try This AGAIN...
