IKF Fairfield, California, USA
This Saturday night, April 30th, LTD Productions and Channel Lumber will present yet another exciting night of IKF Championship Kickboxing at the Allen Witt Sports Center, Fairfield, California, USA. The night will feature amateur kickboxing and boxing. Topping the night off will be a Dual Main Event.

Two IKF Amateur titles will be up for grabs. Mike Fonseca of San Francisco, California will face Kurt Floyd of Modesto, California for the vacant IKF Amateur MTR West Coast Light Cruiserweight Title. also, Jose Palacios (Right) of San Jose, California will meet up with Johnny De La Cruz of Modesto, California for the vacant IKF Amateur MTR West Coast Welterweight Title.

IKF Simpsonville, South Carolina, USA
This week Charter Cable "Channel 10" (onTV10) in South Carolina, USA will be starting a new Kickboxing TV Show on, "Ringside with Stephen Thompson." The show will feature well known multi time IKF Champion Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson and local TV personality well known to the IKF TV Crew, multi-talented performer Tim Bachman as co-hosts.

This original series TV show will highlight past kickboxing championships of the Wonderboy as well as other IKF Kickboxing Champions in the sport such as Rebecca "Pitbull" Preacher, Peyton "The Artist" Russell, Dallas "Wildthang" Crowe and Shannon "The Cannon" Hudson.

"Ringside with Stephen Thompson" will be broadcast for no less than eight weeks with a new show produced each week reaching more than 200,000 homes in the Upstate, South Carolina area. Younger viewers can see the show on Tuesdays at 4:PM and the adult fans can catch all the action on Thursday at 10:PM. The first episode will air this coming Thursday April 28th at 10:PM on Charter Cable channel 10 (onTV10) and highlight one of the Wonderboy's first kickboxing title bouts, his PKC National Championship title. The series will also prelim the upcoming event "Martial Arts May-Hem - A Night of Kickboxing" at the Palmetto Expo Center. The event date is Saturday, May 21st. Doors open at 6:PM and the show starts at 7:PM. Tickets will go on sale May 2nd. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first serve basis. Upstate Karate will be the primary ticket venue and will handle all of the "Reserve" seating tickets. Call or come by to get your tickets at Upstate Karate, 129 N. For the past several months here at the IKF Headquarters we have had 2 different bouts that have been on our minds. The reason these bouts have been on our minds is because both were asked to be reviewed and have been several times. However, what took place today was a different review of these bouts by some very good boxing and kickboxing Officials who came to the IKF Headquarters for the sole purpose of offering their non bias review for us.

To begin with we have a bout that took place in South Carolina, USA last fall. The bout was a non title 7 round bout featuring Anthony Bartinelli (Left) of Phoenix, Arizona, USA against Zack Day (Right) of Augusta, Georgia, USA. At the event, these two went tow to toe for the full 7 rounds. There were no knockdowns or standing 8 counts however Bartinelli was penalized a point in round 6 for hitting Day in the back of the head. When the bout was over the judges scored it a majority decision win for Day. Judge 1 of South Carolina scored it 66-66. Judge 2 of Minnesota scored it 68-64 for Day and Judge 3 of Georgia scored it 67-65 also for Day. The decision had been questioned numerous times, even after we did our first unofficial review of the bout after the event. After discussing bout scoring with some other Officials of the sport over the next few months, we learned a lot about how to do reviews. So a meeting was set and the bout was reviewed again. However this time, we changed one major thing... We turned off the ringside commentary. In the end, we were very surprised that "ALL" those reviewing the bout, of which NONE knew who Bartinelli or Day were, all scored it "Exactly" the same. Here is how all the scorecards looked:

• Round 1: Bartinelli over Day 10-9.
• Round 2: Bartinelli over Day 10-9.
• Round 3: Bartinelli over Day 10-9.
• Round 4: Day over Bartinelli 10-9.
• Round 5: Bartinelli over Day 10-9.
• Round 6: Bartinelli over Day 10-9, but Bartinelli lost 1 point hitting behind the head making this round 9-9.
• Round 7: Day over Bartinelli 10-9.

Final score by all judges, Bartinelli 67, Day 65 and could have been a 68-65 if not for the point deduction. What we noticed ourselves was how much "Detail" you could see without the sound. Day was very busy in the fight, in fact he outkicked Bartinelli 82 kicks to 57. Bartinelli only scored 1 kick above the minimum in 1 round, round 4, the round Day won. However, what we noticed was "What shots were scoring" and this was where the major difference came. Day threw a lot but for every 5 that he threw Bartinelli scored with 3 solid shots. So what happens now? Well, after the review a vote was asked of the judges and they all voted unanimously to overturn the decision giving Bartinelli the win and Day a no contest. We truly hate to do this, especially so long after the bout. However, we all asked ourselves, "What is the right thing to do for the truth?" And the answer came easy. The change does not change Day's ranking. In fact, we will even go as far as saying we would accept Day as a challenger for Bartinelli's World title. The question now is, "Who wants to host it?"

There was another fight we reviewed today as well. This bout took place in Montreal, Quebec Canada this last December. Raoul Doucet (Right) of Hawkesbury, Ontario, Canada met up with fellow Canadian Serge Lafond. From what we knew of this bout, Doucet seemed to be winning all the rounds until a questionable call in round 7. With about 20 seconds left Lafond landed a light punch to the side of Doucet's head. The punch made Doucet lean over and he touched his glove to the ring canvas and the referee called it a down and proceeded to give Doucet a standing 8 count. This of course gave Lafond the round which, according to sources, Doucet had been winning up until that point. This seemed to be the difference in the bout as Lafond took a very close split decision win.

So, we presented the video of this bout to our same judges and "Again" turned off the audio. Again we were able to see a much clearer fight. Lafond did hit Doucet in the side of the head with a right hook in round 7, and it was a legit touch of the glove that does warrant a standing 8 count. However, Doucet was not only winning the round, he was winning the fight. When a fighter is dominating a round and takes a "1" shot that forces a standing 8 count, it is not always a clear 10-8 round. Thus the case here. Here is how "ALL" the judges scored this 7 round bout, and again note, ALL the judges scored it the same round for round as they did the Day vs Bartinelli bout.

• Round 1: Lafond over Doucet 10-9.
• Round 2: Doucet over Lafond 10-9.
• Round 3: Lafond over Doucet 10-9.
• Round 4: Doucet over Lafond 10-9.
• Round 5: Doucet over Lafond 10-9.
• Round 6: Doucet over Lafond 10-9.
• Round 7: Lafond over Doucet 10-9. - Remember, this was the knockdown round when Doucet was given a standing 8 count.

Final score by all judges, Doucet 67, Lafond 66. Just like the Day vs Bartinelli, Lafond kept busy, but Doucet was the one landing the power shots, especially his kicks. If not for the one shot that bent Doucet over just enough to touch his right hand to the mat, this bout would have easily been scored 68-65 for Doucet. On our kick count Doucet had 72 kicks to Lafond's 63, but Doucet's kicks were hitting and hitting hard when they did. In fact, we even had Lalond miss his kicks in both rounds 6 and 7, but we did not deduct the 2 points from the score above. This is because one never knows what a kick counter counts as a kick. In this case, it appeared Lalond was given a kick point every time he lifted his leg because in round 2 and 3 he almost missed his kicks too. So what happens here? Since the bout was so close in the scoring the judges ruled this bout a "No Contest" with a requested rematch.

Tomorrow, Saturday, April 16th, IKF Promoter Rob Zbilski (Left) and his Team Z promotional crew will host somewhere around 35-40 amateur kickboxers in the IKF North Central FCR Regional Seeding Tournament at the Regional Sports Center, Ridgefield Road, Crystal Lake, Illinois. the event will feature fighters from Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

IKF England: This Sunday night, April 17th, IKF Promoter Nigel Thompson (Right) will presents IKF Muay Thai at the Corn Exchange in St Pauls Square in Bedford, England. The event will feature 2 IKF East Area Thai Boxing titles. Juniot Herbert will meet up with Glen Daniels for the vacant IKF Pro IR Middleweight England Title. Ranjit Dheer and Scott Quigg will meet for the vacant IKF Pro MTR England Bantamweight Title. Dheer already holds the IKF England Southeast Area Featherweight title when he defeated Daz Mitchell by TKO at 56 seconds of the first round on April 14th, 2002 in Bedford, England.

IKF South Carolina, USA
If all goes as planned Martial Arts May-Hem will go off on May 21st at the beautiful Palmetto Expo Center in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. IKF Promoter Ray Thompson (Right) and his IronSpirit Promotions Team is set and itchin to get this show underway. There are just over five weeks till fight time and all is going as planned. Keep your fingers crossed and hope it stays that way. Most promoters are far too familiar with last minute problems that occur just before "show time" and the IronSpirit crew is hoping for smooooooth sailing.

To give you a taste of what is planned for this event let's talk about the amateur card. IronSpirit has four ladies on this card that promise to "rock the house" come May 21. Lori "Lil Bit" Burney, (3-2/1) from Ray Thompson's camp, Upstate Karate in Simpsonville, SC, will be fighting Cara "The Terror" Dickerson, who trains with IKF Regional Promoter and trainer Craig Smith from Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Terror has an undefeated record (5-0-1) which looks a lot better than Lil Bit's. Lil Bit has a couple black marks the first of which was given to her in her very first fight with eventual kickboxing and boxing World Champion Trisha Hill. That fight went toe to toe for the entire three rounds. Hill tried to KO Lil Bit but it was not to be. Her second loss was to a young lady from the Mike and Vicki Hollobaugh camp out of Bradenton, Florida. Mike has trained many champion fighters one of them being IKF Champion Erik Marshall. This loss for Burney was simply because she came in to light and her opponent was simply too big. Instead of not fighting because of the size difference, no fault to the promoter, and ruin the promoter's main event she fought anyway and gave the crowd what they came to see. A WAR!!

The next ladies bout will be between Becki "Bam Bam" Halloran (thanks Dan Stell for the use of the nickname) whose record is 3-1 with 1 win by KO/TKO vs 2003 IKF/TKO North American Champion Susan Wood (7-3/2). Becki also trains out of the Ray Thompson camp while Susan trains with husband and top IKF Trainer Mike Wood. Mike also trains 2004 IKF/TKO North American Champions Mark Adams and Billy Heslop as well as #2 ranked Rachelle Heslop. Susan comes from a fight camp that has a reputation for putting out top notch competition.

Becki's only loss was in her very first fight in the 2004 IKF/TKO NAC against Canadian powerhouse Desni Boisert (12-1/7) who in fact won the tournament and the prestigious 2004 IKF/TKO North American Title. Becki, in her first fight was far out classed but stood in and fought toe to toe with Boisvert. This has a lot to say about the heart of Halloran. The Wood/Halloran fight will be a "fight to see".

The first male fight we'll write about will be between Dallas "Wild Thang" Crowe, (10-6/2) from the Kevin Hudson Hurricane Camp in Lyman, South Carolina and 2004 IKF/TKO North American Champ Bobby Smith (3-0) who is trained by legendary trainer Ben Kiker from Dalton, Georgia. If you were around "back in the day" you might remember a fighter named Robert Harris. Robert was a Karate and Kickboxing Champion trained by Mr. Kiker out of the United Studios organization there in Dalton. Mr. Harris was not the only champion out of that camp. The fight between Smith and Crowe will be a rematch. Smith beat Crowe in the 2004 IKF/TKO NAC in Orlando, Florida. Smith is a clean, well schooled, and a sharp fighter that will be rematching the "Wild Thang" and the Wild Thang is simply "THE WILD THANG!" This promises to be a rematch you won't want to miss.

Meet Fight Sports Training Legend Gary Brown.
Gary has been a part of Kickboxing long before there was an IKF. He began boxing in 1951 and started studying Marital Arts in 1957 in his hometown of Columbus, Ohio. It was there he earned his first Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Mr. Brown trained and studied during this tour in Vietnam in 1970 with the Korean Rock Unit. He returned to Columbus and began teaching children boxing and Marital Arts at the Ohio Youth Commission. He also taught for the Columbus Recreation and Parks Depart and was an executive member of the Ohio Amateur Athletic Union boxing commission.

Mr. Brown himself, was a professional boxer from 1974 to 1977. He has trained numerous Champions including Bill Douglas, the father of Buster Douglas, former holder of the World Heavyweight Boxing Title, 2 time Former IKF World Champion Rick "The Jet" Roufus, current IKF World Champion Mark Selbee, Brad Hefton, Jerry Rhome, Jeff Gripper, Steve Shepard, Yves Sanake and many more including his work in bringing up top women fighter Trisha Hill

Gary came to Georgia in 1979 where he opened his studio, Eagle Karate and Boxing. He has trained nine World Champions in full contact Karate and Boxing. After over forty-five years in Martial Arts, Mr. Brown holds several black belts and is declared a recognized Master in several of these styles and systems. He has and currently does training for various law enforcement agencies such as GBI, GSP and other city/county agencies using his patented Flood System.

IKF Roseville, California, USA
There's an old phrase many of us have heard over the years... "Walk soft and quiet but carry a big stick." If one wanted an example of that phrase on Saturday, they would have seen it as clear as day. While Morello's Team and supporters were excited and confident, Anthony McGaughey and his trainer Scott Mincey pretty much kept to themselves and stayed calm and quiet all day long... That is, until the bell rang to begin their IKF Amateur World Title bout.

Some had predicted this bout to stop early while others just wanted to let it play out and hope for a good fight. Those simply "Hoping" got far more than they were hoping for and those predicting for a fast ending, simply picked the wrong fighter to end it... Several had thought Mike Morello of Santa Barbara, California, USA would put a stop to Anthony McGaughey's undefeated Light Middleweight streak and send him back to Norman Oklahoma in pain. (McGaughey's only loss came when he fought above his weightclass) However, it was not to be on this night at IKF Promoter Johnny Davis' event in Roseville, California, USA. In fact, after Saturday night many in the house wondered if McGaughey even knows what pain is.

Morello threw everything he had including several solid spinning backhands and some right hands that landed square on McGaughey's head. But McGaughey never even flinched. McGaughey took everything Morello offered and still averaged over 16 kicks per round compared to Morello's average kick per round of 7. Still, McGaughey was quick and smooth throughout the entire fight, never letting Morello's aggressive game plan take him out of his.

"I just told him to stick to the game plan." said McGaughey's trainer, 6 time Professional World Champion Scott "Conan" Mincey. That was exactly what he did too, he stuck to the basics. Simple side steps and counters that he played off of every Morello attack. He didn't just throw 1-2 in response to Morello, he often fired off 4, 5 and 6 shot combinations.

McGaughey won the kick count every round, 18-8, 15-7, 13-7, 18-6 and in the final round he shot off 20 kicks to Morello's 6. Still, Morello did enough in rounds 2 and 3 to win 2 of the 3 judges cards. To the surprise of many, after 3 rounds Morello was up by a split decision margin 29-28, 28-29 and 29-28. However it was McGaughey's experience and high physical conditioning that made him get stronger and stronger in rounds 4 and 5 to pull away for the big win.

Morello "Walked the Walk" against a fighter with 3 times his experience, but in the end, it was exactly that experience that won it for the Multi Time IKF Champion McGaughey.

Neither fighter seemed to ever be hurt in the battle (Easy for us to say from outside the ring...) but both left everything they had in the ring at the end of 5. when the scores were announced McGaughey had won the unanimous decision 48-47, 49-46 and 48-47 in a bout that appeared to many watching to not be as close as the scores. Still, Morello, as the true sportsman he always has been, insisted to Referee Dan Stell that he place the IKF Amateur FCR Light Middleweight World Title Belt on McGaughey himself, which he did. Our hats go off to both these gentlemen who were more than deserving of being in the ring that night. Deserving more so because they had something else going for them besides fighting skill in the ring, they were both Champions outside the ring as well.

Here is how the remainder of the card went.

1. IKF AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL RULES
   Charles Ceasar of San Francisco, California (2-1/0, 215, 6'1", 33) defeated Jerry Wright of Whittier, California, USA (0-3, 199, 6', 37) by TKO at 1:56 of round 1.
   
   
2. IKF AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL RULES
   Dogamaye Bonner of Sacramento, California, USA (1-0/0, 160, 6'2", 25) defeated Kenyan Atkins of Modesto, California, USA (1-2, 160, 5'8", 23) by unanimous decision 29-28 on all 3 judges cards.
   
   
3. IKF AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL RULES
   Betram "Baby Boy" Bunch of Santa Barbara, California, USA (2-1/0, 177, 5'11", 23) defeated Raymond Doxie of Yuba City, California, USA (0-2/0, 174, 6'2", 24) by majority decision 28-27, 29-27 and 27-27.
   
   
4. IKF AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL RULES
   In a very wild bout Eugene Ivanov of Roseville, California, USA (0-0-1/0, 147, 6'1", 17) and Dustin Akbari of Sacramento, California, USA (0-0-1/0, 145, 5'8", 17) fought to a majority draw, 29-28, 28-28 and 28-28.
   In the bout Ivanov was penalized a point for a low kick by referee Jon Schorle.
   
   
5. IKF AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL RULES
   Richard Houston of Whittier, California, USA (3-1/0, 185, 6'2", 34) defeated Justin Humphries of Modesto, California, USA (0-2/0, 187, 6'2", 27) by TKO at 1:41 of round 1 when Humphries was unable to continue due to a foot injury.
   Midway through round 1, Humphries kicked at Houston and his foot landed square on Huston's groin cup. After Houston recovered, Humphries went to fight but he could not stand on his foot which appeared to be injured from the impact of Houston's cup.
   
   
6. IKF AMATEUR FULL CONTACT RULES
   Marcus Crandle of Roseville, California (5-0, 149, 5'10", 19) defeated Eric Jones of Santa Barbara, California, USA (0-1, 146, 5'10", 35) by TKO at 1:21 of round 2.
   Crandle who was up on all 3 judges cards 10-9 after round 1 landed a strong right hand on Jones that dropped him to the canvas.
   
   
7. IKF AMATEUR INTERNATIONAL RULES
   Aaron Grewer of Roseville, California, USA (3-1-1/1, 169, 6'3", 23) and Luis Benevidos of Whittier, California, USA (4-2-1/0, 165, 5'10", 17) fought to a split decision draw, 29-27, 27-29 and 28-28.
   Benevidos was penalized a point for a low kick in round 2 by referee Jon Schorle.
   
   
8. IKF Amateur FCR Light Middleweight World Title
   Anthony McGaughey of Norman, Oklahoma, USA (27-1-1/16, 157, 5'11", 27) defeated Mike Morello of Santa Barbara, California, USA (8-6-1/2, 157, 5-10", 32) by unanimous decision 48-47, 49-46 and 48-47.

Tomorrow night either Anthony McGaughey of Norman, Oklahoma, USA or Mike Morello of Santa Barbara, California, USA will become one of only 6 IKF Amateur World Champions. So who else has accomplished this and how did Morello and McGaughey get to this point in their careers? Lets look at the IKF Amateur World title History first.

It was on April 29th, 2001 in Newcastle England when Craig Richardson (Right on Right) of England became the first ever IKF Amateur World Champion and the First IKF Junior Amateur Champion when he defeated Bruno Susano of Portugal by unanimous decision, 68-63, 69-64 and 69-64. Richardson won the IKF Junior Amateur FCR Light Welterweight World title and Yes, the bout was a 7 round bout.

On June 15th, 2001 Paul Middlehurst (Sorry, no photo on file) of Haydock, England became the second IKF Amateur World Champion and the second IKF Junior Amateur World Champion when he defeated another top Portugal fighter, Taigo Mendes by first round KO in Liverpool, England. Middlehurst won the IKF Junior Amateur FCR Lightweight World Title.

It wasn't until August of 2003 when the IKF Amateur World Titles were allowed in North America. Stepping up to the challenge was Trent "Thunderfoot" Tompkins of Waterloo, Iowa, USA. Tompkins had won the IKF USA National Amateur Tournament title in 2001. On May 11th, 2002 in Waterloo, Iowa, USA he won the vacant IKF Amateur FCR North American Super Heavyweight title when he knocked out Ivan Varga of Kitchener, Ontario Canada at :40 seconds into round 1 with a spinning hook kick. With a record of 14-0 with 8 KO's he was the first North American to step in the ring for an IKF Amateur World title. On August 23rd, 2003 in Waterloo Iowa, USA, Thompkins did just that and it didn't take him long to crush Rob Macdonald of London, Ontario, Canada at 1:35 of the first round by a roundhouse kick to Macdonald's head to improve his record to a perfect 15-0 and take claim to the IKF FCR Amateur Super Heavyweight World Title. With the win Thompkins became the first IKF Adult Amateur Champion. However after that bout, Thompkins has never fought again. Many looked forward to seeing him fight as a professional because many thought he was the next Dennis Alexio. However college, work and getting married changed all that.

Enter the "Wonderboy!" He was American Kickboxing's "Mohamad Ali, Mike Tyson, Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods and Joe Montana" all wrapped into one package. He was the Golden Boy with the million dollar smile named Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson!

A "3" time IKF USA National Amateur Tournament Champion and IKF North American Champion. He had fought everyone he and his trainer/father Ray Thompson could find to step in the ring against him. Thompson was a fresh young face of only 20 years old when he was matched up against another outstanding fighter, 2 time IKF National Amateur Tournament Champion Kevin "The Hitman" Engel of St. Louis Missouri on November 15th, 2003 in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. To this day it still remains as the most anticipated andtalked about fight in IKF history. Engel entered the ring that night with a record of 22-3 with 10 wins by KO/TKO. He was the older of the two at a mere 22 years old and was the 2002 & 2003 IKF National Tournament Champion. Across the way entered the "Wonderboy!" A Perfect record of 32 wins, no loses and 18 wins by KO/TKO. He was the 2000, 2001 & 2002 IKF National Tournament and 2002 IKF North American Champion. They both met for the IKF Amateur FCR Light Cruiserweight World title. In the end it would be the Wonderboy who took the win over Engel by unanimous decision in one of the greatest Amateur bouts ever, 50-42, 50-42 and 49-45.

Thompson retired his amateur title when he turned pro on May 15th, 2004 and has stayed successful as a professional fighter with a record of 3-0 with all 3 wins by KO/TKO. Engel has continued his amateur career and also added Mixed Martial Arts to his fighting career.

The next IKF Amateur World Title took place in Kings Hall Herne Bay, Kent, England on Saturday the 12th of March 2005. To say the least, it was a shocking upset of who many thought had the edge over his opponent. Englands Mark Epstein (Right) scored a TKO Victory at 29 seconds into the 3rd round over highly favored Alan Fenandes of India. We say "Highly favored" because Fenandes had been preparing for this bout for months while Epstein was booked the week of the bout when he stepped in to replace top contender Andrew Kypriano (Who is the current IKF European Champion) when Kypriano went down with Influenza. This was also the first IKF Amateur World Title won outside the Full Contact Rules division. This bout was the IKF Amateur Muay Thai Heavyweight World Title.

So the question is, will Saturday's bout between Anthony McGaughey and Mike Morello top any of these past IKF Amateur World Title bouts?

Well, maybe so or maybe not, but one thing is certain. As of today both Anthony McGaughey (Right & Below Left) and Mike Morello are in town and both are ready to Bring It ON!

So what roads lead these two to Roseville, California and the quest for this IKF Title? Anthony McGaughey and the IKF were first introduced at the 2000 IKF National Amateur Tournament in Council Bluff's, Iowa, USA. In his opening round bout he stopped Frank Glover of Lake Zurich, Illinois by TKO at 1:59 of round 3. In the final he faced the highly experienced Marc Mayfield of St Louis Missouri who had an impressive record of 17-5-1. McGaughey stopped Mayfield by TKO at 1:22 of the 3rd round to win the 2000 IKF FCR Light Middleweight National Title.

At the 2001 IKF National Amateur Tournament in Olathe/Kansas City, Kansas, USA, McGaughey defended his title when he defeated Jeff Bederd of St Louis, Missouri (23-2/12) by unanimous decision, 30-27, 30-27 & 29-28.

At the 2002 IKF National Amateur Tournament in Davenport Iowa, USA, McGaughey successfully defended his Title when he defeated Neil Halmstad of Wrenshall, Minnesota, USA by unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards.

At the 2002 IKF North American Amateur Tournament in Simpsonville, South Carolina, USA, McGaughey defeated last minute replacement fighter Shaun Gay of Valdosta, Georgia, USA by TKO at 1:02 of the second round.

Back again to the 2003 IKF National Amateur Tournament in Davenport Iowa, USA, McGaughey again successfully defended his title when he defeated Shannon Hudson of Greer, South Carolina, USA (18-8/8) by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27 in a bout that was closer than the scores sound. The win gave McGaughey his 4th IKF National Tournament Title. He may have won 5 if not for the late move of last years IKF Tournament from Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Orlando Florida. He had planned to attend in Iowa but the change of venue did not allow their team time to fund-raise to make the trip. McGaughey's only loss came when he took a fight he had to step up in weight for. Stepping up in weight is already enough to ask, but stepping up to fight none other than Kevin Engel (Read above) was not one of his better moves. McGaughey had planned to turn professional last year but just never made the move. With an amateur record of 26 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw and 16 wins by KO/TKO, it's clear he will have experience on his opponent.

However Mike Morello (Right & Below Left) of Santa Barbara, California, USA is not planning to rely on his past to get him the IKF World Title. Morello says he is "Hungry" for this win and he may be more hungry than McGaughey. No offense intended towards McGaughey but look at what he has accomplished. Will McGaughey have any problems getting motivated for yet "Another" title? We don't think he will have any problem at all, so this being known, Morello needs to be at his best, and for the best. But isn't that what a World Title is all about... Finding the BEST!

So how does a fighter with an 8-5 record find himself entering the ring for a shot at an Amateur World title? Well, the numbers may not show it but Morello is a far better fighter than his 8-5 record. Keep in mind most all his loses were in leg kick styles. such was the case at his first ever IKF National Amateur tournament in 2002 in Davenport, Iowa, USA where he lost his opening round bout in the International Rules division to eventual champion Oscar Montano of Surprise, Arizona, USA by unanimous decision, 29-28, 29-28 & 29-28. He didn't make it back to the IKF Nationals in 2003 but he was there in 2004 in Orlando Florida, USA. There Morello entered into the FCR Light Middleweight division... Yes, the same division McGaughey would have come to defend if he made the trip to Orlando in 2004. Without McGaughey there the division was open and anyone could win and no one would have any bye rounds. In the opening round Morello faced and defeated Ryan Hayden of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, USA by unanimous decision 30-27, 30-27 & 29-28. Later that same day Morello faced and defeated Travis Jones of Dalton, Georgia, USA by majority decision 28-28, 29-28 & 29-27. The Finals on any Sunday at the IKF Tournament are never easy, but Morello didn't expect to meet one of the best IKF amateur fighters ever, Shannon Hudson (Left) of Lyman, South Carolina, USA (25-10/11). Talk about a WAR! Hudson entered the Tournament having already won the IKF East Coast Light Middleweight title back on May 15th, 2004 in Simpsonville, South Carolina, USA when he defeated Steve Mann of Richmond, Virginia, USA, (14-4/4) by unanimous decision, 50-45, 50-45, 49-46. He won his other previous to this, the IKF Amateur South East Super Middleweight title by forfeit when his opponent, Rob Llaneza failed to show up for the bout. However in his first defense of this title, He lost to Steve Hall on August 23rd, 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia, USA by unanimous decision.

The Hudson - Morello bout was already being talked about by the end of prelims on Saturday night last year. As was expected, it was a WAR! In the end Morello squeaked by Hudson by unanimous decision 29-28, 29-28 & 30-27. This was one of the Greatest bouts in IKF Tournament History and could have easily been for the Worlds title. However, McGaughey deserved the shot here since he was still amateur and his resume confirms it. Morello got the opportunity because he won the IKF North American title this year.

Hudson still holds his IKF Amateur FCR South East Light Middleweight title and although national tournament titles have eluded him, you need to know, he didn't lose to just anyone. At one of the National Tournaments he lost to none other than Anthony McGaughey by unanimous decision, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27. Adding to that meeting with McGaughey the year before Hudson met up with Kevin Engle in the final who beat him by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27 & 30-27. So it's not like Hudson has lost to stiffs and bums which means Morello didn't have an easy opponent either in his Championship bout at last years 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic. Hudson has fought THE BEST and done well against them too and Morello beat him. So toss the coin when Morello and McGaughey meet tomorrow night and guess who will be looking to challenge the winner... We don't think we need to tell you.

Morello is also the current IKF International Rules West Coast Light Middleweight Champion, but he may stick to Full Contact from here forward, and tomorrow night in Roseville, California may have a lot to do with that decision. Current IKF pro Super Heavyweight Muay Thai World Champion Matt Skelton of England became the new WBU Pro Boxing World Champion this last February 25th (Right) when he stopped Fabio Eduardo Moli of Villa del Rosario, Córdoba, Argentina (32-4/19) in the 6th round of their bout held at the Wembley Conference Centre, London, Wembley, England.

Skelton, the British and Commonwealth champion, totally dominated an opponent who out weighed him by 26 lbs. Reports said that Skelton's ambition and superior conditioning took him to his 16th straight win since switching to professional boxing in September 2002 after a career as a martial arts fighter in Japan. Moli who was floored three times in round six before referee Dave Parris called a halt with 44 seconds of the session left. A big right to the side of the head, quickly followed by a left to the chin, put Moli over by the ropes the first time. Climbing up, he waved Skelton in but it was nothing more than bravado and another crude right to the head put him down again. Still the Argentine was not finished but Skelton would not be denied and he hurled everything at Moli as he went down for the third time. Once more he clambered up but a resigned look of defeat towards his corner said it all and Parris waived the fight off.

Julius Francis, the former British and Commonwealth champion, is still the only man to have taken Skelton the distance and the cattle rancher from Argentina who claimed to have been knocking out bulls and cows after scaring off sparring partners with his power, rarely looked capable of doing that. A record 34 victories from his previous 37 fights flattered Moli, who had been knocked out inside a round by Wladimir Klitschko - younger brother of WBC heavyweight champion Vitali - when he last attempted a step up in class in October 2003. Although Skelton could not match that this was another impressive performance by a man on a roll which he hopes will quickly take him to a genuinely prestigious version of the world title.

At 37, Skelton knows he does not have time on his side. Next up could be a first defense of the WBU belt against fellow Brit Danny Williams, who knocked out Mike Tyson last year before succumbing to Vitali Klitschko in six rounds in his world title bid. Skelton said: "I will fight anyone they put in front of me. I want to fight for a major version of the world title by the end of the year and if I am offered the opportunity to fight Klitschko I will be ready for it. The critics have doubted my boxing skills but nobody can doubt my ability to fight. I am always in the gym and I am ready for anybody. I want to go as far as I can in this game."

Skelton improves his pro boxing record to 16-0 with 15 KO'TKO's along with his kickboxing record of 63-8 with 57 wins by KO/TKO. He won his IKF World Title when he stopped Jeff Ford of Kansas City Missouri, USA at 1:51 of the second round in North Hampton, England on November 26th, 2000. He defended the title on November 18th, 2001 in North Hampton England when he defeated Peter Varga of Budapest, Hungary by TKO at 53 seconds of round 3.

IKF Valdosta, Georgia, USA: The 2005 IKF South East United States Regional will be held again at the Lowndes County Civic Center and Fairgrounds in Valdosta, Georgia, USA. The South East Regional Tournament will feature fighters from Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama and Florida. Last year 22 Amateur Kickboxers attended from the State of Georgia and 12 from South Carolina. However of the 220 Amateur Kickboxers in North America who qualified for the 2004 NAC Finals, none qualified from Alabama or Florida. To see the numbers from each region Click HERE.

The IKF along with other sponsors host the yearly Amateur North American Kickboxing Tournament that can be liken to the "National Golden Gloves of Kickboxing." This is a true North American Amateur Kickboxing Championship Tournament for bona fide titles in kickboxing. This year there will be "4" rules styles (Adding San Shou this year) featured at the Finals in Orlando Florida, August 19th, 20th & 21st.

At the South East Regional there will be 3 Rule Styles, Muay Thai, International, and Full Contact (or American rules as some call it). Over 200 competitors fought in last year's 2004 IKF/TKO North American Tournament which was also held in Orlando Florida. Fighters who plan to attend the North American Tournament can attain a higher seeding in their weight and rule division if there is a Regional Seeding Tournament in their area such as the South East Regional. All potential contenders for the Finals in the South East must go through the South East Regional to be seeded at the finals.

This year's South East Regional promises to be as well attended as in the past, previous to last year. due to scheduling issues, there was no South East Regional in 2004 and it was surly missed. The kickboxing tournament will commence about 8:AM on June 18th. An evening fight card will feature selected amateur finals, pro kickboxing matches and ISCF mixed martial arts action. Valdosta's own World Champion fighter Jonathan Wiezorek, also the ISCF Pro U.S. Super Heavyweight Champion will be the main event fight on the evening card.

Wednesday, April 6, 2005, Milwaukee, WI USA: In November of 1999, 4-Time World Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion Duke Roufus (Right) travelled to the northern Italian resort town of Trieste to face Sinisa "Thunderman" Andrijasevic, (Left) a tough opponent who represented Croatia's best. From a country long known as a superpower in Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts, Andrijasevic embodies the same Croatian fighting spirit that is recognized worldwide and exemplified by Pride superstar Mirko "CroCop" Filipovic, the inaugural K-1 World Grand Prix Champion Branko Cikatic and K-1 star Stephan Leko. As well as, Andrijasevic comes from a strong athletic family, his brother Stipe is a well known professional soccer player in Croatia. They would battle for Andrijasevic's WKA World Heavyweight Title in a bout that had a well prepared Roufus controlling the fight from the onset, but ultimately losing in the end.

In the 2nd round, a frustrated Andrijasevic employed an illegal judo style, hip throw and flung Roufus to the canvas where he landed with a solid thud on his back and injuring him. A confused referee was starting to give Roufus time to regain his senses and recover - and take away a point from Andrijasevic for the illegal move - when, after some commotion at ringside, the referee suddenly changed his call and started a 10 count on the fallen Roufus. Roufus gathered himself as much as possible and staggered to his feet by the count of 9, attempting to soldier on. Seeing that his stunned opponent was unable to get off any shots of his own, Andrijasevic pounced on Roufus like the wounded prey he was, forcing the referee to call a halt to what had been a promising outing for the American Kickboxing star.

Now, almost 6 years later, Roufus has the chance to come out of retirement and settle the score with his old adversary Andrijasevic, who is also a 4-Time World Champion. To make things even better, Roufus, 35, gets a chance to do it in his own hometown of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, when the premier match-up headlines the Heavyweight Gladiators "Return To Colosseum" IKF Pro Kickboxing and ISCF Mixed Martial Arts card at Friday, June 3, 2005 in Milwaukee's Ramada Airport Convention Center Grand Ballroom.

"In my mind, this is a vendetta I've wanted to settle ever since that fight. I don't mind losing. I've lost to some great fighters in my career, but I don't like losing that way," Roufus said. He continues, "I'm not going to let the referee or judges have any part of this one. I expect the same roughhouse tactics from Andrijasevic again. If he wants a street fight, he's got a street fight, Milwaukee style. The fans are going to see a Duke they've never seen before. He may have laughed first, I'm going to laugh last. We're going to war!"

Roufus has fought eight times in Milwaukee as a professional - the first appearance in his hometown was on July 20, 1989 which marked his second pro fight of his career. On December 4, 1998 Roufus won the IKF Super Heavyweight Muay Thai Rules World Title with his Unanimous Decision victory over New Zealand champion Hiriwa Te Rangi.

Roufus successfully defended his IKF title in Milwaukee on March 19, 1999 when he dropped a first round KO bomb on Australia's Grant Barker (In Middle at Right with Trainer Robert Wilesmith at Left, Roufus Right). Then on October 23rd of the same year, Roufus put on a clinic against K-1 star Dewey Cooper winning their fight by a landslide Unanimous Decision victory. The last time Roufus fought in Milwaukee was on September 29, 2001 when he stopped Mexico's IKF Heavyweight Kickboxing Champion Pedro Fernandez by TKO at the end of the third round.

Roufus lamented, "It's been a great run of fights for me in my hometown of Milwaukee. All the fights I've had here are each special in their own way, especially winning the IKF World Championship and defending it successfully in my own town. But this fight is much more intense than any other fight I've had here. All the others were for sport and business like, but this one is personal."

Roufus' record in Milwaukee is 8-0, with 4 knockouts. "Return To Colosseum" will feature a total of seven pro Kickboxing and MMA bouts, including appearances by women's pro MMA star Greta "Mo' Betta" Hicks (Right) of Milwaukee, Heavyweight Gladiators Horace "The Real Deal" Craft, Cudahy, WI, "Bam Bam" Bryce Franck, Rockford, IL, and "Big" Ben Rothwell, Kenosha, WI, plus MMA Gladiators Jeb "The Butcher" Bloomquist, "B.O.B." This weekend, April 9th and 10th is the second fight camp at Progressive Self Defense Academy (156 N. Adams, Old Alley Mall) in Carroll Iowa with Team Sinto's Dean Lessei (Right). Lessei (Right with his 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic Champions and Fighters) is the owner and Chief Instructor of the Dubuque Martial Arts Group - Team Sinto located in Dubuque Iowa. D.M.A.G. has been in operation since 1990. Dean began his formal martial arts training back in 1982 with Tae Kwon Do. Remember all of these Night Time finalist had to win throughout the daytime event to get to the night time finals. There were some daytime winners too. Due to the amount of fighters registered we had to have some finals during the daytime events. Here they are:

10. Tony Mon Monaco (Junior Division) defeated Christopher Meeks.
11. Jonathon Schwenfuss (Junior Division) defeated Stryder Jackson.
12. Cody Freeland defeated Travis Dallos.
13. David Thomas defeated Tyrone Cave.

There were many more fights as well, many fighters whom fought their Hearts out may not be listed due to the fact that these results are only the Winners of the brackets. This Years event surpassed last years registrations but participants were less than last years participants. We had about 95 fighters. Some did exhibitions and some neglected not to fight due to some reason or another. Last years participants was 106. Next years event will be the best yet, we have much more planned.
