Only ONE
Word... AWESOME!
Only one word can describe this years IKF
North American Classic Amateur Kickboxing Tournament... AWESOME!
It was an outstanding weekend of great kickboxing!
As IKF Ambassador
Brooks Mason
explained two years ago, On Any Given Sunday "The
saying in football is that on any given Sunday any team can win. The champions
of our sport will have no easy time at the IKF Championships as the best of the
best come to meet the challenge. Fighters rise to the task when faced with great
talent and our returning champions surely provide that. Don't hand out the belts
quite yet as new talent will certainly emerge and increase the field of fighters
to watch. I am positive there will be great fights for all the belts and we will
enjoy the best tournament in America. Looking forward to seeing all of you." Uncle Brooks
However, this year, due to some personal reasons, Brooks
was unable to make it, and he was truly missed by us all. And Brooks,
you missed a Great Show! With a total of 240 fighters
in attendance, it will go down on record as the LARGEST Amateur Kickboxing Tournament ever held in North
America. But enough of the talk. We will save the stories for later,
so for now, here are the complete results of this years 2005 IKF North
American Classic Amateur Kickboxing Championships... |

RESULTS FROM THE
Round Kick Rumble II
In Lake View, Iowa, USA
Terri Storm,
IKF Representative
Friday,
August 5, 2005 was the date for Roundkick Rumble II
in Lake View, Iowa promoted by Pete and Pam Peterson. What an
outstanding event! The Petersons pulled out all the stops.
IKF Pro Full Contact
Rules United States Super Middleweight Champion Randy Pogue was on hand
to sign autographs during the fights and present a Kickboxing seminar on
Saturday morning. Fighters from several states came to battle in front of old
and new fans from a variety of Midwest communities. Rookie fighters as well as
veterans showed that quality training and a lot of heart can make anyone a
winner. Here are the nights results.
- Daniel Reum (0-0-0) Manteno, IL vs.
Eddie Cox (0-1-0) Joliet, IL: Super Welterweight
MTR
- The opening bout set the high energy pace for the evening. Cox
used strong leg kicks and wide hook punches while Reum punched straight
down the center. Cox effectively used knees inside the clench and Reum
broke the clenches by throwing Cox.
- The second round began the same way as the first round ended
clenches
and throws. The excitement of the round came toward the end when Cox
began pummeling Reum with punches and Reum didn't respond.
Referee, Carl Duncan, gave Reum a standing eight count.
- The final round began with Cox taking advantage of Reum
dipping his head and opening himself up for knees to the body. With 30 seconds
left in the final round, Reum found a spark of energy and tried to steal
the round by landing a couple of clean head shots on Cox. It turned out
too little, too late.
In the end, Cox won a
unanimous decision.
- Joe Powers (0-0-0) Peoria, IL vs
Ryan Clark (1-0-0) Des Moines, IA: Middleweight
MTR
- One of the favorite match-ups of the night, Joe Powers and Ryan
Clark gave a seminar in ring generalship as each threw and endured strong
hits throughout the fight seemingly unaffected. Clark was able to land
round kicks both to Powers' head and legs, but Powers landed
solid punches to Clark's head at the same time. This quick pace was
kept up for most of the first round.
- The second round began with Powers as the aggressor backing Clark
to the corner twice, but Clark was able to respond. Powers
utilized knees to the body with one knee accidentally ending up as a low blow.
After a short break, Clark started back with the powerful exchanges
defining the entire match. Powers' strategy was to focus on center line
attacks while Clark tried a variety of attacks and angles. Powers
appeared stronger until a series of wide hooks landing solidly on his head,
obviously making an impression.
- The final round began with Powers' again relying on knees, but Clark
was ready to block. As both fighters began to tire, they dug deep and found the
heart to fight strong until the end.
Clark was
awarded the unanimous decision.
- Randy Bartels (0-0-0) Carroll, IL vs
Chris Garrity (0-0-0) Omaha, NE: Heavyweight IR
- This bout began with paced exchanges with both fighters showing caution.
Garrity accidentally round kicked Bartels in the groin followed
by a slap kick to the head. Both fighters came back after the time out throwing
caution out the door and slugged out the first round.
- Round two started by Bartels keeping Garrity away with
kicks to the abs. Garrity was able to figure out how to by-pass the leg
kicks and landed both punches and kicks. Bartels continued to rely on
kicks to try and keep Garrity at bay, possibly affecting Garrity
slightly. With 30 seconds left in the round, Bartels appeared to get
tired, but still threw techniques marching straight up and down Garrity's
torso and head.
- The final round began with Garrity immediately bridging the
distance well covered up as Bartels again tried to keep him off with
body kicks. Garrity used leg kicks and body shots to keep Bartels
from gaining any ground.
The nod was given to
Garrity by unanimous decision.
- James Lyons (3-0-0) Washington, IL vs
Frank Young (7-2-0) Davenport, IA: Lightweight
MTR
- This fast action bout was exciting to watch. At first it appeared that
Lyons might be burning himself out while Young was busy keeping
himself out of tough situations being 4 inches shorter than his opponent. Great
conditioning proved to help Lyons keep up the power and speed as he
knocked Young to the mat with a knee. At the end of the round, Lyons
again knocked Young to the ground, this time with a right hook to the
head. This resulted in the only knock out of the night when Young was
unable to answer a 10-count from referee Carl Duncan.
James Lyons earned his 4th victory by KO.
- Kyle Stevens (0-0-0) Carroll, IA vs
Brad Bragg (0-3-0) Decatur, IL: Super Heavyweight
MTR.
- Stevens took the first attack, but Bragg quickly turned
this into his fight by forcing the clinch and using knees. Stevens was
able to land a solid hook to Bragg's head while against the ropes which
shook up Bragg. Bragg regained his composure and again forced the
clinch where he gained the advantage despite the 25 pound weight difference.
- In round two, Stevens was able to throw Bragg out of the
clinches and landing on Bragg after one such throw. Bragg
quickly got back into the fight and evaded Stevens wide hooks and using
knees in the clinch. Stevens was able to get three clean right hooks to
Bragg's head before Bragg could stop him. Bragg ended
the round with straight punches to Stevens head and face.
- Bragg began round three with a renewed sense of confidence and
again evaded Stevens' wide punches. Stevens did throw from the
clench, but Bragg was able to get in a series of punches on Stevens
to which Stevens turned his body. Bragg repeated the flurry
until Stevens couldn't respond. Referee Mike Storm began giving
Stevens a standing 8 count when the final bell rung.
The unanimous decision was given to Bragg.
- Jason Skowl (0-1-0) Decatur, IL vs
Maksim Shcherbiy (2-0-0) Omaha, NE: Middleweight
MTR.
- Another fast action bout began with the fighters getting into a quick
clinch with Shcherbiy using knees and Skowl using punches. Skowl
landed a right upper-cut to Shcherbiy's chin putting Shcherbiy
down and earning an 8-count from referee Mike Storm in Round 1. Shcherbiy
recovered quickly and started coming back with effective knees to Skowl's
body. A terrific exchange of punches toward the end of the round resulted in
Skowl knocking off Shcherbiy's headgear.
- Round two opened with Skowl coming across the ring looking for a
quick knockout with continuous punches. Shcherbiy was able to stop the
barrage with more knees to the Skowl's body.
- Round 3 offered more of the same. Shcherbiy fought hard to take
control of the fight, but in the end, Skowl was able to land too many
punches to Shcherbiy's head.
Skowl won
the majority decision.
- Chase Green (8-1-0) Rockford, IL vs
Tim Gorham (5-3-0) Omaha, NE: Super Middleweight
MTR.
- This was a much anticipated main event. Immediately, Green began
throwing several strong round kicks towards Gorham's leg and head, but
Gorham was able to block most of the blows. Gorham landed a few
round kicks to Green's body. While Green began as the
aggressor, the aggressiveness evened out by the end of the first round.
- During the 2nd round, the fighters were all over the ring with short
exchanges. Either one could have knocked the other one out with their power.
- The final round got going with Gorham catching Green's leg
and then kicking out the other leg. Green landed a strong knee in an
attempt to start a clinch, but Gorham stopped it with a throw.
In the end, Gorham received the unanimous decision.
- Two exhibition bouts showcased veteran women in
one and up and comers in the second.
- In the first bout, Naomi Ferguson and Ann Graff, both
members of Team Roundkick moved around the ring in 3 one-minute rounds to
knock-off more ring rust than to knock each other around. Both ladies are
headed to Orlando in two weeks for the NAC Championships and were very careful
to avoid injury to themselves and each other.
- In the second exhibition match, Marie Sturm from Carroll, IA got in
the ring with Emily Anderson from Omaha, NE. Although an exhibition,
both ladies wanted to make a good showing. After an outstanding display by each
of them during three 2 minute rounds, these ladies gave notice that they were
ready to step up and take a spot in the ranks of the IKF
women's divisions.

On Friday July 29th
Shamrock

ISCF MMA
and 4 were IKF Kickboxing. All of them
kept the 1000+ fans very well entertained. Congratulations to Jesse Finney /Shamrock and Ben Nogueras /Blue

City, MO.
After a close first round,

In 2004

registered 27 fighters and all of them made it to the Finals. Although Georgia
registered 29 fighters, only 22 made it to the 2004 NAC which put them in 3rd in
2004. Who will win this title for 2005? We only have a few days left to see.

"TWO"
Fighter
Brackets
They are the nightmare and worry of every fighter and trainer
in the Tournament, not to mention the most expensive and controversial of the
entire event. They are a nightmare because every fighter and trainer in a TWO
Fighter bracket will be worried they will lose their opponent until they step in
the ring with him and her. If they drop out between now and fight time, it
leaves the other fighter very little time to make a change, if any. Worse yet
will be the fighter and trainer who pay their way to the "SHOW"
only to find out their opponent was a "NO SHOW" without any
prior notice.
There will be NO Walkover Champions this year.
Sure, we said it last year and made some awards, but this year it's for real. If
a fighter becomes the only fighter in their bracket by end of weigh-ins, they
won't go home with anything.
For this reason, we are asking ALL the fighters who are
currently in TWO Fighter brackets and their trainers to consider moving to
another bracket to assure there will be someone across from them in the ring
come Championship Sunday.
We won't be adding any more divisions now either because to do
so will be a cost of over $400 per division. There is a rush/late fee for
another belt, and not to mention the addition of other awards and logistics
here. ALL fighters who are by themselves in a weightclass now need to determine
WHERE they will move to, if they want to move at all. If possible, also call
your opponents trainer and make sure they are OK with moving to a larger
bracket.
Regardless, there will still be fighters who choose to stay in
their TWO fighter bracket. So, for the record, we want to remind you again, "There
will be NO Walkover Champions this year." However from the looks of
things, there will surly be over 60 fighters going home with some IKF Gold from the 2005
IKF North American
Classic Amateur Kickboxing Tournament. Hopefully you or your fighter
will be wearing one. Good Luck everyone.

IMPORTANT
For
ALL NAC
Fighters & Trainers!
There are some important issues we need to address with all of
you that we keep getting e-mails on. MANY of these issues are related to rules
and regulations for the event as well as procedures for registration etc. Please
note the following issues you NEED to be aware of below. IF you know someone who
does not have internet access, PLEASE inform them of these issues to avoid any
consequences by event time.
- CORRECT FIGHT RECORD
- Some fighters have registered with incorrect fight records. This is a major
rule breaker! If we discover a fighter or trainer has provided us with an
incorrect fight record, INCLUDING how many KO's or TKO's a fighter has, they
could be DROPPED from the Tournament! If you did this, we will give everyone 1
free opportunity, no questions asked, to correct your records now. You have
until Wednesday, August 10th, 2005 to do so. Already we know of SEVERAL fighters
who have not registered with the correct fight record. This is your chance to "Come
Clean!" Unlike ANY other Tournament "In the WORLD", we provide a
DETAILED match list for all to see. It is our honest desire to assure the other
fighters in this event are seeing the HONEST and CORRECT information of their
division opponents. To correct your record, please e-mail the IKF at
main@ikfkickboxing.com
or call us at (916) 663-2467.
- MISSING INFO
- If you have any RED showing in your
registration you need to take care of these items NO LATER THAN Wednesday,
August 10th! These items include:
- Missing fight records
- Missing height
- Missing Date of Birth
- Missing Trainer contact info
- or ANYTHING ELSE in RED.
- BIRTH CERTIFICATES
- If you are a Junior fighter, we NEED to have a copy of your birth
certificate in our hands no later than Wednesday, August 10th! If you have a
RED notice saying we don't have one, you
need to get it to us ASAP! You can fax us a copy to (916) 663-4510 or mail it,
as long as we "RECEIVE" it no later than Wednesday,
August 10th!
- COACH/TRAINER/CORNERMAN PHOTOS
- If you are a fighters cornerman and want to save a TON of time at
registrations we ask that you "REGULAR MAIL" in your photo ASAP to
arrive here at IKF HQ no later than
Wednesday, August 10th! To save even more time, you can mail in your $10 fee
too. All fighters and trainers who owe a fee will have to go to a separate line
at registrations first before going to the regular registration line. ALL fees
due (Late Fees) are listed on the fighter registration pages. If you have a fee
due, please do not waste your time in the wrong line at registrations. You will
need to pay all your fees due in the "PAYMENT" line first before
moving to the registration lines.
- IKF, P. O. Box 1205, Newcastle, California, 95658.
- PHYSICAL ADDRESS
- The physical address for all Fed-Ex or UPS Express mailing is:
- IKF - Ringside Gym
9385 Old State
Highway
Newcastle, CA, 95658
Rear of Building
(916) 663-2467
- LATE REGISTER SEEDING
- As noted several places on the website:
- Any Fighter who registers AFTER the first Registration Deadline of July
22nd will not only be charged a late fee, but also be seeded at the bottom of
their division. This rule applies to ALL CHAMPIONS too. Late registered fighters
will be seeded according to DATE we receive their Registration Forms "AND"
Fees.
- MATCHMAKING
- if we have placed a RED matchmaking
note next to your registration, you NEED TO RESPOND TO US ASAP.
Otherwise, we will just move you to a division where we feel is best, regardless
of your approval. We are trying to please everyone, and need your help to do so.
For this reason, PLEASE respond to us ASAP because we are all running
out of time. ALL Matchmaking of divisions needs to be done no later than
Thursday, August 11th, 2005.
- LEAVING US PHONE MESSAGES
- If you are greeted with our message machine at the IKF
Office, you only have 1 minute to leave a message so please speak loud and clear
and leave us all numbers TWICE in case they don't come through the first time.
This had to be done since we are averaging anout 150 e-mails and about 90 phone
calls per day. Thank you. (916) 663-2467.

RESULTS FROM IKF Kickboxing Dinner Show July 31st, 2005 - Weston Football Club Weston Super Mare
England
Promotor: Stuart Davies. Weston Warriors George
Katsimpas and Matt Martin both well and truly put Weston Academy
of Martial Arts and Weston Warrior Kickboxing on the International
map on Sunday the 31st of July. George and Matt both fought for
IKF Title bouts.
The show was a small event specifically organized by Stuart
Davies for George and Matt to fight for these IKF titles. The IKF
had insisted that George challenge for the European title as an
agreement had been made for George to Fight for the IKF World title later this year either in Spain or
Scotland if George held a top class IKF
Pro Belt. Stuart also wanted to showcase his other fighters champion
Matt Martin and up and coming Gay Bettle.
First up from the club was Gary Bettle and he took on a
more experienced fighter from Wales. The fight was a tough affair and
unfortunately had to be stopped in the 2nd round as the Welsh fighter dislocated
his shoulder. Gary did a great job keeping the bigger fighter under
control. Gary gave away nearly a stone in weight. There will be a
rematch at Fightclub 8 later this year.
IKF
Amateur England Middleweight Full Contact Title Mat Martin
entered the ring to fight for the IKF
English title against an undefeated fighter from King Tiger Gym
Weymouth. Dan Webb is a top up and coming fighter with a great future
and this fight was excellent. Matt had to change his approach for this
fight and really worked his socks off to ensure a convincing win over this top
young fighter. Matt worked the body shots and kicked the mandatory eight
kicks per round with great effect. Matt won unanimously on points.
IKF
Pro European Middleweight Full Contact Title George Katsimpas
entered the ring for his toughest fight yet for a 10 round IKF European title. Katsimpas faced Gena
Tacachenco from Belarus with a fighting record of 39 fights with 37 wins.
This was a major fight and Tacachenco is known to be one of the toughest
and fittest fighters in the world. This was always going to be a battle from
beginning to end. George only having eight fights experience and only
going over 4 rounds once would need to give it all to get a result in this
fight. The early part of the fight saw both fighters clash with some explosive
body shots and head kicks. George had the better of the fight during the
early rounds and continued to make Gena miss. In the fourth and fifth
rounds things were a little closer. George had to really dig in but was
doing enough not to loose the rounds. There was a major turning point in the
seventh George unleashed a barrage of head punches and the referee the
famous Ronnie Green stepped in and gave Gena a standing count.
George continued to apply the pressure and worked really hard to ensure
he did not loose his lead. The closing round Stuart Davies, George's
coach, insisted he pressured the Belarusian and win the last round. George
came out guns blazing and really let Gena know who the boss was. George
went on to take the unanimous decision win with the congratulations and
agreement from Gena's corner. Mark Woodard a professional
referee and martial artist who has judged TV fights said it was the best
Kickboxing fight he had ever seen.
George well and truly now placed his name amongst the best fighters in
the World.
