IKF & ISCF Endorse
Wintensity!

Now Booking Seminar Dates Outside Of Florida!

The IKF and the ISCF (International Sport Combat Federation) would like to make it official that they fully endorse the newly created Wintensity Seminar, The Psychology of Combat and Effective Mental Preparation, as an excellent, "cutting-edge" seminar, unlike any other seminar being offered in martial arts today.

"The aspect of mental preparation for training and competition is most important, and Wintensity provides this training in an engaging, fun, 4-hour seminar that will enhance your understanding of the psychological aspects of fighting. This seminar can be the difference between a good competitor and an elite competitor" said IKF & ISCF President and CEO of International Fight Sports, Steve Fossum. (Right)

If you haven't yet registered for the Wintensity.net seminar, scheduled for this Saturday, February 27th, at the Embassy Suites in Tampa, Florida, you should register ASAP because these seminars fill up fast. There are only FOUR available seats remaining.

Come participate in the most unique "Fight Training" seminar you will ever find, in a course designed to give you a serious EDGE... Visit Wintensity online to register at www.Wintensity.net

  • In This Seminar, You Will Learn:
    • How the human brain functions under the stress of danger and physical conflict.
    • How the stress of danger and physical conflict directly affect physical abilities.
    • Methods to successfully manage Anxiety, Stress, Pain and Fear.
    • What to expect from yourself in a "Real World" Encounter.
    • How to build "Brain Training" into your Martial Arts Training and maximize your mental and physical potential.
    • How to avoid the "FREEZE, FLIGHT or FIGHT" response to the perceived danger of human combat.
    • How to develop a true "Non-Quitting Spirit"

Wintensity was founded by 37 year old Eric Parker. Some may remember that Eric was also the 2009 IKF World Classic Muay Thai Rules Lightweight Champion. The IKF made note of his accomplishments at last years World Classic in what the IKF called,

"The most impressive Knock Out of the tournament!"

Eric landed a "Spinning Hook Kick" on a seasoned fighter with a 20-5 record to win his title and became the FIRST FIGHTER EVER to win "4" Tournament bouts by TKO/KO! Eric won his Championship bout at 48 seconds of round 1! This Spinning Hook Kick came after he had defeated all 3 of his previous opponents by TKO as he worked his way through the largest fighter bracket of the tournament.

Eric founded Wintensity with the goal of providing a unique training opportunity for students of the martial arts, and to help students of the seminar gain a greater understanding of how to mentally prepare for any physical conflict, including competitive fighting.

After serving as a US Marine, Eric entered the field of Law Enforcement where he served for ten years as a street patrol officer, a K9 officer, and a special operations police officer. During his time in Law Enforcement, Eric was a SWAT Team Member for eight years, and a SWAT Team Section Leader/SWAT Instructor for six years. He was also assigned for five years as a patrol K9 Handler. In May of 1999, he was wounded during a shoot-out while serving as a SWAT Team member and executing a high-risk narcotics search warrant. Following five surgeries to reconstruct his left arm and nearly a year of occupational therapy, Eric returned to full duty and was soon involved in additional, similar critical incidents, and successfully avoided further serious injury. These events, along with specific education in the anatomy and operations of the human brain, have laid the foundation for his passion for training in this environment.

As his law enforcement career advanced, Eric was assigned to supervisory level duties and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In addition to being detailed as a Special Operations officer, Eric also served as a trainer, a field training supervisor, and an instructor of department personnel, earning several certified instructorships. These instructorships include; Firearms Instructor, Patrol Rifle Instructor, Chemical Agents Instructor, Less-Lethal Munitions Instructor, Distraction Device Instructor, and Impact Weapon Instructor. Notably, Eric also worked in the private sector, providing specialized "critical incident survival" training to police agencies and military personnel with two Multi-Day courses he developed and entitled, "The Survival Mindset" and "Mental Preparation for Deadly-Force Encounters".

Eric adjusted the critical "mental" aspects of these training courses, and combined them with his personal and professional experiences and his extensive experience teaching police officers and military personnel to survive and function at peak efficiency while under stress. Thus, he has created a seminar which is new to the world of martial artists, The Psychology of Combat and Effective Mental Preparation. It is truly the "missing piece" of the martial arts training puzzle.

This new seminar is specifically designed to educate and benefit competitive fighters and students of the martial arts (Kickboxing, MMA, Point Fighting, etc. etc.) by providing an easily understood, professionally produced seminar on how the human brain functions under stress, and how to build this new understanding into your physical training. The seminar blends the science of understanding human brain function, techniques from the field of sports psychology, and the personal and professional experiences of the instructor, to create an educational experience that will forever transform the way martial arts practitioners view their training. Eric will present this Seminar in a way that will enhance your understanding of physical conflict, and better prepare you to reach your goals in your martial arts training.

Eric began training in the martial arts at age six. With 31 years of continuous martial arts training, he is an active and current competitive Muay Thai fighter with an official record of 10-0 (6 wins by KO). He is the reigning IKF World Classic Amateur Muay Thai Lightweight Tournament Champion, the ISKA Florida State Light Welterweight Champion, and the AIC Florida State Light Welterweight Champion.

Eric left the field of law enforcement in 2004 to open a business in the private sector. In addition to conducting seminar training and developing Wintensity, he also owns a real estate finance company with his wife, and resides in Tampa, Florida.

  • Testimonials from Wintensity Participants
    • "The Wintensity seminar is really the "missing piece" in today's martial arts training. The seminar is just as good for students interested in fitness and self-defense as it is for competitive fighters. The seminar is fun, exciting, and the information and material is totally unique in the world of martial arts instruction and training. I have been teaching martial arts and coaching fighters for 25 years, and I highly recommend it. I would not miss the opportunity to attend this seminar."
      • Shihan Gary Hellman, Tiger Schulmann's Mixed Martial Arts, Clearwater, Florida

    • "Wintensity's Psychology of Combat seminar was better and more informative than any training seminar I have ever attended. As a professional world champion fighter and trainer, I can say that I learned much more in this seminar than I expected, and I really wish I had taken this seminar ten years ago. At least now I can take what I have learned from the Wintensity seminar and pass it on to my self-defense students and "up-and-coming" fighters. You cannot put a price on what I learned at this seminar, and I really enjoyed it."

    • "I thoroughly LOVED this seminar! I highly recommend it. I thought that after all my amateur and pro fights I was comfortable enough in any fight scenario. But, in talking with the instructor before the seminar, I realized that I have a lot to learn. Not just for my own sake, but especially for the sake of the people that trust me with their training. After the seminar, I realized the true value of the information provided by Wintensity. This seminar will teach you the most important part of fighting; the way your brain reacts to the anxiety and stress in the ring, and better yet, how to prepare for it! It is said that fighting is 90% mental… Well, here you go!"

    • "As a psychologist and martial arts student, I found the Wintensity seminar provided an excellent blending of physiology and psychology in a format that was engaging, innovative, and easy to understand. The lessons presented are not only applicable in the ring and on the training floor, but also in everyday life."
      • Angela Horvath, Ph.D. Research Psychologist St. Petersburg, Florida.

    • "...a breakthrough program.....combines human research with fight tradition... helps trainers get the most from their students on fight night, and helps students get the most from themselves."

"IKF KICKBOXING"
February 12th, 2010 - Sacramento, California, USA

Photos By Mr. Chris Kisela: (408) 688-6469

This event had more pre event HYPE than most World Title events! Why? It was the simple fact that this would be one of the largest and most exciting fight cards in the Sacramento area since the names of Pro Fighters Dennis Alexio and Eric Regan headlined the night.

The card didn't feature any Pro Kickboxing or Muay Thai, but to the crowd, there seemed to be little difference between amateurs and pros on this night. 15 EXPLOSIVE bouts were presented to the packed crowd at the Double Tree Hotel in Sacramento this past Friday night. Three IKF Title fights were planned but unfortunately, only one of the three was an actual "Title" fight since two of the fighters didn't make the title weight.

Nahe VS Otte
IKF GIRLS JUNIOR AMATEUR IR ATOMWEIGHT

Of the three planned titles, the one receiving the most attention from the press was the "First ever LEGAL Junior Amateur bout in the State of California." The bout featured 12 year old and two time IKF World Classic Champion Katrina "The Storm" Nahe of Antioch, California vs 14 year old Aneka Otte of Scottsdale, Arizona for the (of course) vacant IKF Girls Junior Amateur IR Western US Atomweight Title. However when Otte came in 2 lbs over the 105 weight limit, Nahe, who weighed in at 102 won the title on the scale. Still within the required 5 lb spread, the two agreed to move forward with the fight, but with no title on the line.

With a packed house watching, it was a good thing they did because we have "NEVER" seen such an excited crowd in all our years of the sport! This was a back and forth battle as these two used up every bit of the 90 second rounds to give it their all. If there was ever any down time in the action, we must have missed it because these two gave a perfect example of the term, "Buzz Saw!"

Rounds 1 and 2 were action packed but Nahe clearly had the edge winning them both 10-9. Rounds 3 and 4 were where we were glad we were not the judges. In these rounds it would not have surprised us if the judges gave them both to Otte which could have ended the bout in a draw. Unlike rounds 1 and 2, rounds 3 and 4 seemed to prove that Otte found a way to defend from Nahe's attack. Otte seemed to be blocking nearly everything Nahe was thrown her way, but in our opinion, she needed more on offense to sway the judges. All three judges gave Nahe round 3, and 2 of the 3 gave her round 4 as well.

Although the scores read unanimous, this bout was without a doubt "MUCH CLOSER THAN THE SCORECARDS READ!" On the cards, Nahe took the win with a unanimous decision win, 39-37, 39-37 and 40-36. When all was said and done, this bout had "Rematch" written all over it. If so, it will be a first defense for Nahe's title she won on the scales and confirmed in the ring. However, knowing that the gold is on the line, and seeing that Otte finally found a way to defend Nahe's explosive attack by round 3, we may end up seeing just that little extra the judges needed to see from Otte to even the final score out. If there is a "Next Time", Otte might even take the IKF Gold from Nahe, but it's Gold that won't be easy to grab from the New Champion Nahe. Regardless of the outcome, if a rematch is made, this fight alone will be sure to PACK THE HOUSE!

*Bryan Padilla VS Jon Pryor
IKF AMATEUR MUAY THAI RULES WEST COAST SUPER WELTERWEIGHT TITLE *DEFENSE

This was a title defense of Bryan Padilla's IKF Amateur Muay Thai Rules West Coast Super Welterweight Title. However, it was anything but a glory ending when he won the title on July 11th, 2009 at Phantom Promotions', "Fight Night At The Fox" in Redwood City, California, USA when he defeated previous champion, John Duenas by TKO at 1:18 of round 2. On this night, Padilla's challenger Jon Pryor found Padilla's number within round 1 and simply took it to him right at the opening bell of round 2. Pryor caught Padilla quickly and within a few seconds, (15 to be exact) this bout was over by TKO and yet "Another" new Champion was crowned for the IKF Amateur Muay Thai Rules West Coast Super Welterweight title and his name this time is Jon Pryor!

Could this be a cursed title? So far it seems likes "No One" will be allowed a successful defense of this particular title. The title was vacant when Duenas first won it on March 27th, 2009, again, at Phantom Promotions', "Fight Night At The Fox" in Redwood City, California, USA when he defeated Abel Carrasco by unanimous decision 38-37, 38-37 & 38-37. So far, the two previous Champions have lost the title on their first defense. Hopefully the result won't be the same for Pryor.

T.J. Arcangel VS Tyler Cronin
This bout was planned to be the first title defense of IKF Amateur Muay Thai Rules California Light Welterweight Title won by T.J. Arcangel back on November 22nd, 2009 in Sacramento, California at the very same venue, just in a different room, on AK Promotions' "IKF Kickboxing" when he defeated Jimmy Machado of Concord, California by unanimous decision, 40-36, 39-37 & 39-37. It was a welcomed challenge for Cronin who's the team-mate of Machado, both trained by Dan Black. However, it was a challenge that would be bitter sweet. Cronin was unable to make the title weight of 142, coming in at 144 and unable to drop the two lbs. This could have meant the end of this bout since it wasn't for a title, however, being the warrior he is, Cronin elected to still go on with the fight, without the title on the line.

Scheduled for 3 instead of the required 4 for a title bout, it was an Explosive final bout of the night that sent the crowd away wanting MORE! In the end, Arcangel took it by unanimous decision, 29-28 on all three judges cards. We look forward to a possible rematch here with Cronin making his weight and redeeming himself for the IKF Gold unless Arcangel is shooting for the IKF West Coast title or maybe even a USA Title on his next outing. But until that happens, the Gold of the IKF Amateur Muay Thai Rules California Light Welterweight Title is still proudly worn by Champion, T.J. Arcangel

Here are all the detailed results of the nights action.

Boxing Drills
For Prime Positioning

Will The Judges SEE YOU HIT - Or GET HIT?

Drills for Prime Positioning

Using the rules as facts. If the scoring target needs to be seen by a judge to score, then we can conclude that the boxer who places their back to the most judges is in the safest and most advantageous position for scoring. This month I will discuss Drills for Prime Positioning.

Coaches blame judges for bad outcomes all the time. Looking at the facts, the rules tell us that the judges are neutral. They are as much for a boxer as there are against them. That means I, as a boxing coach, need to do everything in my power, strategically, so they score for my athlete. I encourage you as a coach to look at boxing as a team sport rather than an individual sport. Let's imagine the ring is a basketball court and there are six members on the team, one boxer and five judges. If I am the imaginary point guard, my job is to make sure my teammate is open, or I create an opening before I pass the ball. Amateur boxing is very similar. I train my boxers where to be in the ring so the judge is "open". If the judges are not open, the boxer gets to create openings with positioning. The more judges that are open at once, the more options the boxer has for them to view scoring shots.

I grew up near the Motor City and as a result, I teach with an assembly line approach, progressing through introductory drills that are 1-safe, controlled and FUN, 2-pattern drills that involve COMPETITION and 3-drills that emphasize WINNING. The first step is to give a lesson that encourages the team to identify, recognize and discover the basic strategy for Prime Positioning.

Prime Positioning Lesson
To summarize, Prime Positioning is when a boxer hides their scoring target from the most judges, simultaneously placing their opponent's target in view of the most judges. In national and international tournaments there are three sides with one judge and one side with two judges. The boxer's goal is to keep their back, and their opponent's front, to as many judges as possible. This means their back should ideally be towards the side with two judges every time they are on offense.

The following lesson is worded the way I would teach it. Know the positioning strategy (you can refresh by re-reading the article, Building a Strong Foundation of Coaches & Officials) so it comes from you in a genuine manner. Consider doing a trial run of the lesson with all the coaches in your gym so they all know and understand the strategy.

People learn best if they come up with the idea instead of being told what the answer is. Your job as a coach is to guide the athlete into the direction and allow them to come up with the answer themselves. Ask them when they have come up with a final answer and then reinforce the right answer with praise. Now that they understand the basic concept of keeping their scoring target away from the judges you can take a more aggressive coaching role and tell them how this can be applied in a strategy.

"When you hide your scoring target from the most judges, you simultaneously place your opponent's target in view of the most judges. There are three sides with one judge and one side with two judges. Your goal is to keep your back and opponent's front to as many judges as possible. This means your back should ideally be towards the side with two judges every time you are on the offense. If you are ahead on points and/or want a break you can float around, but when you want to score, the best place to be is with your back to the two judges. Does anyone have any questions?"

FUN Drill (patterning with minimal competition qualities)
PURPOSE
Score points by placing partner in position in the ring so judge sees the opponent's scoring target. Practice positioning and controlling with footwork and ringmanship.

Jabs are used as the only offense and blocking/catching are the only defense (slipping and other evasive defensive tools can be used in more advanced drills. Adding those extra elements simply complicates the drill, making it more about punching than footwork and ring control). This drill is not about the punch but controlling the ring with footwork. The jab/block relation acts as a signal for the Judge to score.

COMPETITION Drill
PURPOSE

To practice ring positioning with an element of "trading punches" and creating a slightly competitive environment without actually awarding a winner or loser.

WINNING Drill (Full spar with jabs only)
PURPOSE
To practice ring control, punches and defenses simultaneously in a competitive environment where a winner is declared.

NOTE: It is a MUST with this Winning Drill to instruct the people acting as "Judges" to only score shots they actually see land on the scoring target and not the ones they think or infer to have landed eg. head snapping back does not constitute a scoring shot unless the target was seen to be hit. This will also allow them to appreciate and respect the challenges of judging even more.

Ireland & The World Lose
John Gallagher & Father...

From Peter Foley, IKF Ireland Representative, pfugym@hotmail.com

Dear Friends,
It is with a heavy heart that I write this email to you all as the Kickboxing community has lost not only a good fighter, competitor and coach but also an extremely obliging and decent young man. Well known talented Kickboxer Sean Gallagher had his young life cut short this morning (Sat 30/1/10)

Sean (24) and his dad John (59) from Ramelton, were travelling back from dropping Sean's girlfriend to the airport on the Slab Road in Burt, Co Donegal. The pair came from the small community of Ramelton in Co. Donegal. The two car collision happened in icy conditions on a notoriously dangerous stretch of road at the junction of the N13 and the Slab Road in Burt. Driver John Gallagher and son Sean, who was the front seat passenger, were killed instantly.

Sean was very well known throughout the Kickboxing community in Ireland and was the assistant instructor for the Donegal Black Dragon Kickboxing Club under head coach Joe Wilson. Sean leaves behind his heartbroken mother Hilary and three sisters Aisling, Aoife and Ailish.

He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him especially his coach and mentor Joe Wilson and his wife Amy and all his friends and clubmates in Black Dragon Kickboxing. God bless you young man and may you and your dad John rest in peace.

From IKF
The entire IKF Family sends our heart felt condolences to the Gallagher Family and friends in this time of tragedy. As we have said to others in the Kickboxing world we have lost, Sean and his father are Gods Champions now.

IKF Championship Kickboxing!
A Grand Affair Set for Sacramento's Historic Event!
The Doubletree Hotel will Rock!

By AKP Press: The countdown is on for what to be one of Sacramento, California's largest kickboxing events in years! The stage is set to bring new light to a sport not so in the spotlight but still standing strong and ready to show its greatness!

AK Promotions of Rocklin, California and partner-

Tommy T's Comedy and Dinner Theatre

of Rancho Cordova, California have plans to light a fire to ignite a new wave of kickboxing entertainment in the Sac. Area.

This is the third show in the past six months and both prior shows have been overall very successful with action - packed bouts, a sellout show on the first one and a respectable crowd at the second show in a larger venue. Fans left wanting more and now they will get their chance to taste it once again...but this time with a bit more flare!

The Doubletree Hotel of Sacramento, California is once again opening its doors to

AK Promotions

Friday, February 12th at 7:PM. They were impressed enough with the last show back on November 22nd '09 to give the promotion company its beautiful Grand Ballroom this time around which is adorned with enough chandelier to impress a prince!

Wayne Wilson

On fight night, the Grand Ballroom will be filled with chairs and a kickboxing ring at center mass. Lighting and Sound Producer Mr. Dennis Smith will have the ring aglow with proper lighting that will illuminate the room with a Vegas fight night ambiance. Plus, the film crew on hand will give the feel of a grand affair! Music will be blasting with the hottest sounds that will circulate and delight the ears of fight fans as they enjoy alcoholic beverages and snacks served by experienced waitresses from Tommy T's Comedy and Dinner Theatre from bars set up inside the Ballroom.

Next, Ring Announcer Wayne Wilson (Left) of Elk Grove, CA will take center stage introducing the officials and the performer of the National Anthem who is recording artist (Right) Aaron Young (AKA- AY) Young currently has songs playing on several local radio stations.

He is the latest winner in a Craigslist National Anthem singing contest that AK Promotions does to find the best performer for its shows. As always, the talent was awesome- the final three had to audition twice but in the end, 'AY' pulled if off with his control and powerful singing talent.

With so much going on around the world today, like the horrific earthquake in Haiti, fight fans here in America will be reminded of how great this country is as we continue to assist those in great need across the ocean. Rest assured that Aaron's rendition of the National Anthem will set the stage for our humility as world citizens as well as the great sports entertainment to come that evening.

Aaron Young

Katrina Nahe

As fighters take their position on stage, spotlights will beam them and music will blast as fog fills the air! Ring girls will lead the way and no doubt get their share of attention as well. Soon both fighters will enter the ring on separate planks preparing to do battle in serious feet and fists of fury!

Over 15 bouts of Muay Thai / Kickboxing including men, women and a special IKF Junior title fight will be one of the main events of the evening. Perhaps, two of the smallest in the ring, may in fact have the biggest impact on the entire event.

When 12 year old and two time IKF World Classic Champion Katrina "The Storm" Nahe (Left) of Antioch, California battles 14 year old Aneka Otte (Right) of Scottsdale, Arizona, the roof may explode due to the noise fight fans will make for this much anticipated fight! The adult fighters that evening will really need to push to out-do this fight as each camp is predicting large turnouts of cheering fans with all the bells, whistles and signs needed to make this fight a real Super Fight!

Trainers of these two young ladies made it clear- (Mr. Dennis Guila for Nahe and Mr. Bob Karmel for Otte) that they are training hard and plan to take full advantage of this historic IKF title fight. It's going to be a war!

Aneka Otte

Now, saying all that, it may seem as though Nahe Vs Otte is the main event, not so. Actually, there is a smoking semi- main event and a potential title exchange in the main event if it goes in trainer Dan Blacks' of Concord, California direction.

Black had originally put forward Rick Erlec to take on the defending IKF West Coast Champion… the very crafty T.J. Arcangel (Left) of San Francisco, California. However, as of today, this match-up had to be changed. Due to personal medical issues with Erlec's father, he was forced to pull out of the bout and the IKF fully understood his and trainer Dan Black's decision.

Fortunately for T.J. Arcangel, Black was able to replace Erlec with another one of his top contender fighters, Tyler Cronin (Right) of Concord, California, (8-2).

As would be expected, long-time veteran trainer of World Champions in Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts, Kru Sam Phimsoutham, who is always quiet and confident, doesn't feel this is a possible. Kru Sam believes T. J. is also destined to become a World Champion…

We will just have to see!

Jon Pryor (Left) of Sacramento, CA who is talented with flashy boxing and kicking combinations, will get another shot for an IKF title as he takes on champion Bryan Padilla (Right) who is trained by IKF Pro World Champion Rudi Ott of Milpitas, CA.

Pryor fell a little short in his last outing for a title.

However, in the words of Cedric Robinson, trainer of Pryor and owner of Sacramento based Robinson's Tae Kwon Do Clubs, " If Jon does what he is suppose to, the title stays in Sac-town!"
Sounds like fighting words!

Media, Start the Presses! Fighters, Call Your People! Fight Fans, Make your reservations... Now! This will be the show of shows and one you will not want to miss! We hope to see you there…prepared to witness this grand affair and see why Kickboxing's light will shine brightly again while proving why it is truly one of the greatest contact sports in the world!
Forward March!
