JAMES GRIDLEY WINS TITLE
LOOKS UNBEATABLE ONCE AGAIN!

James Gridley captured the vacant IKF European Amateur Full Contact title with another devastating display of his skill and talent. Gridley stopped Frenchman Rachid Bagari in the 1st round which brings up the question, "how good was Bagari?" We will never know as Gridley never gave him a chance to get started. Gridley went to work from the first bell and scored a knockdown with the first punch. After that, Gridley never let Bagari recover as he scored often with his trademark kicks at will. Within a matter of seconds, the fight was over in the first round...

Gridley already has a first defence set up and will meet 5 Nations Champion Sean O'Neill from Ireland on February 2013. He should provide a stern test for Gridley but will have to be on top form based on this performance by Gridley.

"2012 Amateur (OSR) Kickboxing Championships"
November 25th, 2012 - England



On Sunday 25th November 2012, leading promoter, David Eckersley organsied the A.K.A. Amateur Kickboxing Association's National Tournament Championships for the third year running. This event was co-sanctioned once again through the International Kickboxing Federation. The event consisted of elimination bouts throughout the day, with the finals in the evening. In total there were 14 Championships bouts. These Amateur Kickboxing bouts were contested under 'K-1' Modified type rules ( Kicks, Boxing, Knees – limited time clinch hold ), using Open-Scoring ( electronic scoreboards ) criteria, similar to the format used for Olympic boxing. All of the athletes wore complete safety equipment, as is being followed worldwide by several associations that are supporting the Olympic drive for Amateur Thai/Kickboxing.

The Phoenix Kkickboxing Club in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, under the expert guidance of chief coach Mr. John Quigley, put together a fantastic night of IKF sanctioned kickboxing in the beautiful Bridge House Hotel in the middle of Tullamore town. At weigh-ins, all fighters made their scheduled weight making for an exciting fight card. A good first event by new IKF Promoters and although they lost a couple of fights due to injuries, the 6 fights they had provided lots of entertainment and produced in the end a good crowd. The title fight was action from the start. However Ozog was too strong and he finished his opponent with a knee to the head which put down Weir-Rhodes, also opening up a cut and therefore bringing about the intervention of referee Colin Payne.

IKF Promoter Vinny Murphy put together a cracking fight night in his home town of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford on Sunday. Culminating in a fast paced thrill a minute, the Night ended with the Main Event, the IKF Amateur IR All Ireland Light Middelweight Title contest between local hero Keith Moroney and Galway fighter Martin Murray. Moroney was busy in the first couple of rounds landing some really solid low kicks to Murrays lead leg but Murray appeared to come back later in the fight and won the last couple of rounds, helped along with the fact that he dropped Moroney with a head kick in the 5th. However, the three ringside judges decided that Moroney did enough and he won the title by split decision.

    The return of IKF World Middleweight Full Contact Champion John Orchard to the Boxing ranks did not disappoint as he delivered an absolute masterclass performance. Shaun Law has never been stopped or floored in well over 100 contests but he had to admit that in this contest he had never been hit so hard and from so many angles. The shut out victory was a joy to watch. As an added bonus new IKF World Super Middleweight Full Contact Champion James Wallis was in the audience and the pair squared off as Orchard offered the match for 2013. That should be a cracker!

    Double IKF World Champion Natalie Bee looked on a totally different level as she outclassed European champion Lisa Schewe over the experimental distance of 5 x 3 in this Full contact contest. It was also fought in shorts and without shin or foot protection. To be fair the pace was strong and high and the experiment certainly proved popular with the capacity crowd. Schewe had huge kicks but was unable to deal with Bee's punch combinations followed by kicks. It was basic but very strong and like Orchard she moved to a shut out victory, showing the doubters that she is still The Queen Bee!

New IKF Promoter John Fitzgerald put together a nine fight card (including two light contact) and also some excellent demonstrations of weapons and self defence etc. The show which had a mixture of styles started on time just after 2.30 PM and was all wrapped up by 5.30 PM.
