Promoter Steven Cook delivered another great show at one of the best new fight venues on the circuit and in a short time he has established himself a solid reputation as a promoter. Two great title fights headlined the event. Grace Spicer and Ruth Walker served up a very tough K1 fight with Spicer taking the title. Two talented young men Tyler Oxford and Vasil Chonev had a great tussle for the British Junior title. Both have big futures ahead of them.

The 4 Star Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow Town was the venue for the latest IKF Ireland Promotion. It was the first time in almost 20 years that the small South East town had a Full Contact Kickboxing event. The show was promoted by Anthony Byrne of Carlow Kickboxing Academy with a huge amount of help from Waterford Kickboxing Maestro Billy O Sullivan and WKA Secretary Ray Connolly who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure it ran smoothly.

The main event was an IKF All Ireland Title defence between champion Keith Moroney from Dungarvan and Challenger Eric Nolan from Dublin. This was backed up with an exciting 13 fight undercard which kept the 300 strong fight fans in attendance very entertained. Moroney however, had a bad day at the office. After five hard fought rounds, Nolan was declared a unanimous winner and lifted the IKF Amateur IR All Ireland Light Middleweight Title from Moroney.

Local hero Matty Moore from Carlow and Tullamore fighter Derry Guinan probably had the most exciting fight of the night. They battled it out over four action packed rounds in a heavyweight eliminator bout to decide who would go forward to fight for the IKF Amateur IR Heavyweight Title later in the year. However the judges decision was a draw so the pair are due to meet again. This time over five rounds for the vacant title and the date has been set for November 16th in Tullamore. Expect fireworks for this one!

IKF Promoter Tommy Delaney hosted a successful Junior Light Contact Kickboxing event in Mountmellick, Co. Laois, Ireland this past Sunday. Even though the tournament fell on the same day as Fathers Day, over 70 enthusiastic youngsters, their coaches & parents showed up and a great day was had by all. IKF acting Representative Mr. Craig Sutton was on hand to make sure the event ran smoothly and that all the kids went home happy. Mr. Delaney made certain that every child received a medal for their efforts whether they won, lost or drew.

The next event on the IKF Ireland calender is on July 27 when the IKF will sanction a show in the capital city of Dublin for the very first time. The show will feature a Professional International K-1 fight, a Full Contact All Ireland Title defence, an Eliminator bout and an amateur K-1 bout between a current Irish champion and an unbeaten fighter at an agreed weight. Of course there will be a full undercard of K-1 and Kickboxing bouts. All enquiries should be put to IKF Promoter Mr. Damien Crowther of the Siamo Camp.

'Son Of Drago' - Denis Grachev
Aims For Monte Carlo Upset In Pro Boxing

Former IKF Pro Muay Thai Light Cruiserweight world Champion Denis Grachev has not had many offers for Muay Thai but most likely because he's been quite the star in Professional Boxing.

However critics of his next Pro Boxing match-up has placed Grachev as the underdog... He be the underdog, but he's training with the will of a champion ahead of his July 13 fight with Edwin Rodriguez (25-0 with 15 wins by KO) for the Million Dollar Super Four crown in Monte Carlo, Monaco. The tournament is promoted by Golden Gloves.

Grachev (13-1, 8 KOs in Pro Boxing, 17-3 with 7 wins by KO in Pro Kickboxing/Muay Thai) is holed up at Abel Sanchez's Summit Gym in Big Bear, California. Along with Grachev at the stable includes WBA and IBO Middleweight Champion Gennady Golovkin, (26-0 with 23 wins by KO). Golovkin will be fighting later this month against Matthew Macklin (29-4 with 20 wins by KO) at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods Resort in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA in a defense of his IBO & WBA Middleweight title.

Grachev earned his place in the final against Rodriguez with a rugged 10-round split-decision defeat of undefeated two-time champion Zsolt Erdei (33-1 with 18 wins by KO) at the Salle des etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco this past March 30th, 96-94, 96-94 & 94-96. (PHOTO )

Grachev, the man who trades by the name "The Son of Drago" says that while he was only in camp for 10 days for the Erdei fight, this camp would total six weeks' training, leaving him in "the best form ever".

"We are high in the mountains, eight of us fighters, just boxing and training. It is hard work, very intensive, with jogging in the morning and much training the rest of the day. I wasn't in my best shape last time, but this will be different."

Grachev says the fight with Erdei was the hardest of his career.

"With his boxing style and experience, it was my most difficult fight. It was hard to find the key to beating him. I think it will be easier with Rodriguez. He is the favorite according to many boxing fans, but they are going to be disappointed. It will probably be his first loss."

Sparring with Golovkin has added sharpness to the Russian's repertoire, but he's also trained with Zaurbek Baysangurov, (28-1 with 20 wins by KO) the WBO Junior-Middleweight Champion, and two other Russians.

"I've had very good sparring, especially Gennady [whose last defence topped the Monte Carlo card]. We are studying Rodriguez's style and sparring accordingly."

Golovkin still holds his IKF World title but his schedule in boxing has not brought him any offers to defend it or any challengers challenging him. He has also fought as a mixed martial artist. His fight career has taken him all over the world. He especially enjoyed the Monte Carlo experience.

"It's a fantastic place and I learned good boxing lessons there. I found out some of my mistakes and I am now working on them. Winning Super Four would mean a lot; it would be a great honor being better than Erdei and Rodriguez."

The Monte Carlo card includes champion Khabib Allakhverdiev (18-0, 8 KOs) versus Souleymane M'baye (40-4-1, 22 KOs) for the WBA and IBO Light-Welterweight Title, the WBC Silver Cruiserweight fight between title holder Dmytro Kucher (21-0, 15 KOs) and Ilunga Makabu (13-1, 13 KOs) and a European Middleweight Title fight between Maksym Bursak (26-1-1, 2 KOs) and Prince Arron (23-4-1, 5 KOs).

The Story of A Champion...
Grachev was born in 1982 in the city of Chaykovsky, Perm Oblast, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He started training in kickboxing at the age of 14 and was trained by Gregory Golubkova, Mikhail Stepanov, Alik Basharov, Vyacheslav Tutubalina, Yuri Vtyurina and Vladimir Lavrov throughout the years. In 2005, he graduated from the Chaykovsky State Institute of Physical Culture with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education. In 2006, he moved to San Diego, California with Evgeny Khil, a long-time friend and fellow kickboxer after appointing Mark Dion of City Boxing as his manager. Grachev would represent City Boxing's professional fight team, as well as being the gym's kickboxing instructor. Although competing mostly under low kick/international and full contact rules, he competed under Muay Thai rules while in the United States. When he first moved into the USA, he had no understanding of English at all and was enrolled in English classes at San Diego City College by his manager Mark Dion. At this stage of Grachev's migration into the United States, he had been dabbling in mixed martial arts and boxing. His manager Mark Dion had plans of moving Grachev's career away from kickboxing since there was little money in the sport due to the lack of popularity of kickboxing in the United States. Grachev eventually made the full-time commitment to boxing in 2011 and is primarily trained by former IBF Minimum Weight World Champion Manny Melchor. Grachev states he has always enjoyed boxing, though resorted to kickboxing while growing up in Russia because there weren't any good boxing gyms in Chaykovsky.

KICKBOXING / MUAY THAI
As an amateur in kickboxing, Grachev achieved a record of 123-18, with 40 of his wins coming by way of KO. In the 2004 WKA/IAKSA Amateur World Championships in Basel, Switzerland, the first joint federation world championship, he won the bronze medal under low kick/international rules. The following year in WAKO's Amateur World Championships in Szeged, Hungary, he won the gold medal under full contact rules, also earning the classification of International Master of Sport in kickboxing.

During his professional career in Russia, Grachev competed most of his bouts in World BARS Kickboxing Federation. On September 13th, 2006, he won WBKF's vacant Commonwealth of Independent States 81 kg championship under international/low kick rules when he defeated Denis Goncharenko of Belarus. After moving to the United States in 2006, Grachev competed in his first kickboxing bout under Muay Thai rules against kickboxing legend Manson Gibson on July 7th, 2007. The bout was for IKF (International Kickboxing Federation) Muay Thai Light Cruiserweight World Title (Left Kicking Gibson & Right with Promoter Dennis Warner on Left & IKF President Steve Fossum on Right). Grachev went on to win the world title with a third round TKO over Gibson after Gibson's corner threw in the towel from too much punishment.

On November 29th, 2007, Grachev took on WBC Muay Thai Light Heavyweight World Champion Joe Schilling. (Schilling who is currently renowned for being a sparring partner of MMA World Champion Nick Diaz) Grachev defeated Schilling with a 47 second knockout in the first round after Grachev delivered a spinning heel kick to the body. Schilling was unable to beat the referee's 10-count. In result, Grachev won IKKC's vacant U.S. Super Middleweight Title.

His last Muay Thai bout was under FULL Muay Thai rules on October 2nd, 2010 in Pala, California. in the bout he defeated Fernando Gonzalez by unanimous decision. Although still never challenged for it, Grachev continues to hold his IKF World Title.

BOXING
Grachev made the transition to boxing in 2007 when he faced Rosendo Rubalcaba on June 24, the professional debut for both combatants. Grachev won the debut with a second round knockout after knocking Rubalcaba down a total of four times the entire bout. On December 11th, 2009 (in a 6-round fight), Grachev fought to a controversial majority draw against Ernesto Castaneda in a fight where he was the effective aggressor and showing more ring-generalship, landed more punches and the harder punches in a majority of the rounds. Clearly, every ringside observer thought that Grachev had done enough to win. One judge scored it in his favor, with the other two judges scoring the fight even.

On July 4th, 2011, Grachev went on to capture his first major championship in boxing when he defeated Eddie Caminero with a third round TKO and becoming the WBC Continental Americas Light Heavyweight Champion. On April 27th, 2012, he took on then-reigning NABF Light Heavyweight Champion Ismayl Sillakh (19-1 with 15 wins by KO). At the time, Sillakh was a consensus top-10 ranked Light Heavyweight and was going into the bout as a heavy 11 to 1 odds favorite over Grachev. After being knocked down in the third round by Sillakh, as well as losing most rounds on the judges' scorecards, Grachev rallied what many called the upset of the year, winning by TKO in the 8th round. The victory also won him the NABF Light Heavyweight Title.

Grachev put his NABF Light Heavyweight title on the line against former IBF Super Middleweight World Champion Lucian Bute (31-1 with 24 wins by KO) on November 3rd, 2012. The bout took place in Bute's hometown at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Despite a tough, solid effort over 12 rounds, Grachev lost by unanimous decision, 115-113, 118-110 and 116-112 . Though some believed that Grachev won the majority of the rounds (and therefore the fight) with his sheer aggression and the fact that he landed more punches, most analysts and ringside observers agreed and believed that Bute had the upper hand throughout the bout, as he out-boxed Grachev throughout a majority of the rounds of the fight and managed to land the harder punches of both of the fighters. On March 30th, 2013, (noted above) Grachev added another big name to his boxing resume when he fought Zsolt Erdei (33-1 with 18 wins by KO) at the Salle des etoiles in Monte Carlo, Monaco in a 10-round fight and defeated him via split decision, 96-94, 96-94 & 94-96.

Grachev currently lives in San Diego, California. When not giving his own fight training full time attention he works at City Boxing as an instructor.

Be Aware Of Matchmaking Rules For The
IKF World Classic
TOURNAMENT...

As we begin matchmaking this coming week for the IKF World Classic,
please be aware of these important
"IKF TOURNAMENT RULES"
rules if you are wanting to request to move from where you are currently seeded to another bracket or rule style.

1. If there is NO OTHER FIGHTER in a fighters bracket, he/she can move to a different weightclass or rule style at any time.
   
   
2. If a fighter has at least 1 matched fighter in their registered bracket, they cannot move unless there are 4 or more other contenders in the division they are requesting to move from.
   Since this is a "TOURNAMENT", we try to make it a "LEGIT" TOURNAMENT match up.
   Meaning we try to assure that to become a "TOURNAMENT" Champion, that fighter will fight a minimum of 2 times to win the Title.
   
   
3. If the division has 4 or more other fighters, the requesting fighter may ONLY move to another division if it has;
   • MORE Contenders in it.
   • The experience level of those in the division the fighter is moving to is greater than the bracket they are requesting to move out of.

With the 2013 IKF World Classic Tournament coming soon, we wanted to ask if there are any qualified Kickboxing and or Muay Thai Officials that would be willing to help the Amateur Athletes accomplish their dreams at this years 2013 IKF World Classic Tournament. We are not into the "Politics" of the sport so don't think we are only looking for "IKF" Officials. We are looking for Kickboxing and or Muay Thai officials from any and all sanctioning organizations or state boxing-athletic commissions. We would be proud to have you share your skill and talent as ring officials with the hundreds of athletes, trainers and other officials this year. We know there are a lot more Muay Thai & Kickboxing Officials around the world and we need them to help out if they can. Again, they do not have to be IKF Registered Officials. We welcome ANY and ALL Qualified Kickboxing and Muay Thai Officials to the Tournament.

We are always in need of Judges, Referees, and Timekeepers. We are also looking for those who want to be a part of our Tournament Staff to help with other aspects of the Tournament. If you can help out we here at the IKF are not the only ones who would be Grateful for your assistance. The fighters and other already confirmed Tournament Officials would greatly appreciate it too!

We will have a special private dinner for all officials on Saturday night, but we need to have a head count for the hotel within a few weeks, so if you can be a part of this years 2012 IKF World Classic Officials Team, please e-mail ( main@ikfkickboxing.com ) us your name and what kind of official you are qualified as. We will also give you meal vouchers for all your meals on Saturday and Sunday that can be used at the restaurants in the hotel. This way, if you want to have dinner with your friends, you can go on your own without having to wait for anyone else.
