Sacramento, CA - May 24th, 2010:
Out- spoken Kickboxing Trainer Cedric Robinson of Sacramento, has been
telling everyone who will listen that his prize fighter IKF Muay Thai West Coast Super Welterweight
Kickboxing Champion Jon "The Hawk" Pryor ( Left -
Hawk not his official ring name) is the best in his weight class and plans
to continue to prove it as he did in stalking and devouring his opponent in his
last fight coming out with an impressive second round knockout of former
champion Bryan Padilla of Milpitas, CA in their February 12th, 2010
fight. The fight was held at the Doubletree Hotel
Grand Ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel in front of a packed house of
screaming fans!
Pryor who very well could be a distant cousin of the
great boxing champion Aaron "The Hawk" Pryor and who
defeated the equally great Alexis Arquello several times in two great
superbouts in Boxing in the early 80's. Pryor retired with an incredible
record of 39 wins 1 loss and 35 knockouts! Jon and Aaron's
fighting styles are very similar and their non stop punching and in Jon's
case, kicking arsenal are very similar and always delights fight fans! Although
Jon demonstrated fighting ability and knockout power in his last bout,
his amateur career has already suffered at least one defeat. So in order for
him to somewhat prove he has the potential to come even close to the Great Aaron
Pryor's record, there can be no more losses in his amateur career and he
must maintain a stellar record as a pro.
In his way, will be John Kusaba of San Bruno ( Right
) who is trained by Former fighter Mark Tubuso. In one of his previous
bouts, he was described as being "flamboyant and elusive with effective
counter striking." Pryor, may need to pull out some new tricks
to bait the perceived cagey techniques of Kusaba. As it has been said
that its styles that makes fights.
Ultimately, both men want the glits and glamour of being at the
top of their game. Whether Kusaba has what it takes to dethrone Pryor,
we are not sure, but this fight could be more than the records portray and
could have both men digging deeper than ever before seeking to gain the respect
as the next great champ and going for an IKF
United States Championship in the near future!
Although Pryor is soft spoken and patient like a hawk,
he has a way about him that one knows when they see him that he is confident and
quietly searching for his next victim!
Don't miss this great event! Over 15 bouts on schedule with two
other title fights! Don't Wait... This may be
another packed event...Get your tickets early!

IKF Promoter Pat
Rockett of the Pat Rockett Academy of Martial
Arts promoted a Full Contact Kickboxing show at the Waterford
Institute Of Technology on Saturday Evening (May 22) and had a
total of 14 fights on the card. Once again Rockett spared no expense
having an excellent MC, Beautiful Ring Girl, top class trophies and a 2 camera
shoot for the DVD and the show went off smoothly.
Catherine Cullinan from Claregalway, who only last week
was crowned Irish Champion at 60 kilos after a hard 5 round battle with Dubliner
Lindsey Doyle faced Waterford lass Chloe O' Brien. This fight
was over 3 rounds and O' Brien seemed well up for it as she started fast
trying to unsettle Cullinan but Catherines experience came to
the fore and she soon controlled the pace to take the nod.
IKF Champion Eric
Daly from Gort faced Irish Champion Trevor Kinling from Bray.
Kinling and Daly are both Irish Champions and this fight, which
was a long time in the making, was set for 4 rounds.
Daly tipped the scales at the agreed weight of 63.5kg and Kinling
came in at 65kg but this made no difference to Daly as he controlled the
fight from start to finish and easily out pointed the Kinling man over
the distance.
Daly too, was in action the previous week in Galway defending his 5
Nations Title successfully against Derrys Dee Mc Guinness.
Here is a brief rundown of the nights
bouts...
- Luke Byrne defeated Ethan Delaney by majority decision,

decision, 30-28, 29-28, 30-27.

The California Black
Belt League (C.B.B.L)
Completes First IKF
/ PKB Event!
Future
is bright for New Martial Arts Circuit. Pus, JD's Point Boxing© division
kicks off its first bout!
The Merefuentas brothers were all smiles with the success of their
most recent California Black Belt League's martial arts event
that included an assortment of martial arts like kumite sparring, weapons,
katas, grappling and the fastest growing semi contact striking tournament
competition IKF Point
Kickboxing©.
The Merefuentas brothers are clearly admired by many martial artist
in the area and looks as they will be very successful in an area where there
doesn't seem to be a lot of martial arts tournament competition. Therefore,
although the participation for the first IKF/PKB was light this time around, the future is bright
for this exciting fighting division as well for those who participate in C.B.B.L
events. IKF/PKB
semi contact competition was a perfect fit for the CBBL as it is
with other karate circuits in the area and the fans seemed to really enjoy the
action! The C.B.B.L will have IKF/PKB in all of their upcoming events for all of 2010
and hopefully for years to come.
Fighters Jesus Barrios of Foresthill, CA and trained by Mr. Tom
Shively and Daniel Oseguera of Modesto, CA who is trained by Paul
Mendoza and Matt Miller get the credit as being the first official
Point Boxing©
match. Also, Josh Shively and Matt Miller gave an excellent
Point Boxing demonstration. Shively Jr. showed skill but Miller
was very impressive as he worked angles, showed fast hands and good footwork.
Miller, who has been participating in IKF
Point Kickboxing for over a year or so now is
getting ready for his full contact match in Sacramento on July 2nd which will be
held at the Doubletree Hotel.
Point Boxing©
is semi contact boxing where no knockouts are allowed and competitors focus on
bettering their "hand" skills to improve overall as a fighter.
Both men showed excellent techniques and landed very good head and body shots.
Osequera would prove to have a little more skill as he won with a
unanimous decision by the judges. Point Boxing© will more than likely be sanctioned by the
newly IAB
Boxing Organization - www.iabboxing.com recently formed by
International Fight Sports - IFS -
www.ifightsports.com CEO Steve Fossum. The Boxing organization will
sanction both amateur and professional boxing matches
The next C.B.B.L event is scheduled for June 19th, 2010 on Ripon, CA.

He won the $5000 grand prize and gained the pass to fight against another Thai
opponent, at Fairtex stadium in Thailand.
The Iranian fighter withstood heavy attacks from Nongoh
Citmato, his well-known Thai opponent and despite the clear disadvantage
from the crowd and environment, managed to win the match.
The crowd cheered endlessly for the fighters as the announcer
introduced them and Nongoh entered the stadium dancing the famous Thai
martial arts moves.
Once the referee blew in his whistle, both fighters started the
match and in the first round, the audience witnessed some fascinating kicks as
both fighters were analyzing and examining each other's opponents.
Coaches from both sides were watching the match closely and
repeatedly reminded the fighters of proper techniques for them to apply.
In this match, which was the first IKF
Championship to be held in Thailand, many tourists from various countries
were present and excitedly applauded the fighters.
At the end, it was the Iranian fighter, Mohsen Mansouri
who managed to win the match by continuously and rigorously attacking the Thai
fighter. On round 5, both fighters showed an extremely exciting performance and
provoked the crowd to cheer loudly and created an overwhelming atmosphere in the
stadium.
Mohsen Mansouri who is known as Eric, managed to win the match
with a close score and won the championship and brought joy to the audience and
to his coach.

And Bach Take Home IKF
Gold
Josh Tuft
Avenges Only Loss As Tommy Bach Retains
IKF World Title
By Chuck Wolfe,
IKF World Representative: Promoters
Craig Cummings and Damon Reed provided a time and place for
Kickboxing History. Josh Tuft and
IKF World Champion Tommy Bach (Right)
made it happen.
In the nights Main Event
IKF World Champion Tommy Bach (20-1-2)
Chicago, Illinois put his Title on the the line for the FOURTH TIME,
against Irish Mike Kelly (12-1) of Kansas City, Missouri. Bach
won this title back on February 1st, 2003 in Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA when he
defeated Keith Nesbitt of Steelton, Pennsylvania, USA by First Round KO.
Since winning it he has defended it 3 more times.
- His first defense was on November 12th, 2004 in Schauburg, Illinois, USA
when he defeated Eric Mihindou of Wixom, Michigan, USA by TKO when at
the end of round 5, with Bach up on all the cards, 50-44, 50-44 and 50-45,
Mihindou told referee Scott Fischer from his corner during the round break that
his shoulder Bach had injured in round 2 with a hard kick, hurt too much to
continue.
- His second defense was on September 27th, 2005 when he defeated Bobby
Campbell of Long Island, New York, USA by majority decision, 116-109,
116-113, and 113-113. However, an Official protest was filed and after an
official review, the bout was declared a draw and a mandatory rematch set for
January 20th, 2006.
- His third defense was on January 20th, 2006 in Crystal Lake, Illinois, USA
where he defeated Bobby Campbell of Long Island, New York, USA again by
unanimous decision, 115-113, 116-112 and 116-113.
In this bout, his "FOURTH" defense, Bach
started strong winning the first round on all Judges Cards with strong hand and
foot combinations. Kelly came right back in the second round winning on
all three judges cards by landing three staggering spinning back fists combined
with repeated counter right hands over Bach's guard.
Bach took charge in Round 3 again landing smooth hand
and foot combinations to win on all Judges cards. Bach started Round 4
where he left off at the end of Round 3 staggering and dropping Kelly
with a right-left-right hand combination that put Kelly down and counted
out by Referee Mike England at :53 of Round 4.
Congratulations to
Tommy Bach for an excellent display of Kickboxing
technique and sportsmanship. |

Tufte
Was Clearly TUFF Enough...
IKF
#2 Ranked Amateur Super Heavyweight Josh Tufte (9-1) from High
Point, North Carolina won a close but Unanimous Decision over #1 Ranked Konsta
Myrick (7-1) of Kansas City, Missouri to win the vacant IKF Super Heavyweight Amateur World Title. Two of
the Judges had Tufte pressuring his way to a Three round to Two
advantage and one saw it 4 rounds to One. In the end it was Tufte by
Unanimous Decision, 49-45, 48-47 & 48-47.
Tufte avenged his only loss to
Myrick in the 2008
IKF World Classic Tournament in Orlando
Florida in which Tufte lost by a close split decision, 29-28,
29-28 & 28-29.
Could fight number three between these two be on the Horizon?

5''1", 1-6-79, Pete Foley Mob: 00353 87 8119227, Tel/Fax: 00353 91 793020)
VS Carla Jessup (European
Champion, Kent, England, 13-7-1/0, 5'4", 12-10-86, Colin Payne, TKO Gym,
Kent, 0044 7912577773)
- The main event was worth the admission fee alone as Galways Nikki "The
Killer" Collins lived up to her nickname when she dismantled a very
fit looking Carla Jessup from the UK to take the win by stoppage in the
fourth round and is now the IKF World
Bantamweight Kickboxing Champion.
Nikki created her own bit of history by becoming the first ever female
World Champion from the West of Ireland.
- Jessup, who is the current IKF
European Champion and has defended it on two occasions, also won the
2008 IKF
World Classic Tournament in Orlando, Florida, USA beating all the top
Americans in their own back yard so a very credible opponent indeed and a great
ambassador for the sport of kickboxing.
- The fight started at a faster pace than we're used to seeing Nikki
involved in as she usually takes her time in the first round but not this time.
She entered the ring looking in incredible condition to a tremendous applause
and she had a certain fire in her eyes - this was set to be a cracker of a
contest.
- When the bell rang both girls went at it and got straight down to business
exchanging punches and kicks like they were going out of fashion. The second
round was more of the same but Collins was starting to tee off on Jessup
and the third saw Collins upping the ante yet again putting the English
lass under severe pressure.
- The fourth round was an all out war but Collins swept Jessup
to the floor on two occasions and really unsettled her and then caught her with
a kick to the mid section which warrented a standing 8 count.
- The game English lass got up and fired back but Collins smelled a
finish and like a lioness on the hunt set about finishing off her wounded prey
and with a barrage of vicious kicks and deadly accurate punches she had Jessup
on the canvas once again and Referee Bobby Nolan from Dublin had seen
enough and called a halt to proceedings to save Jessup from further
punishment and Galway had a new World Kickboxing Champion by way of the big
Knockout in the 4th round.
- Jessup is Medically suspended for 45 days due to
her KO.
- BOXING
Gary Giles (Galway)
and Peter Doyle (Dublin) fought to a split decision draw, 28-29,
29-28, 29-29.
- IKF
Amateur FCR All Ireland Super Welterweight Title
Gary "Slick"
Manogue (Galway, Ireland, 10-0/6, 69.5kg, 6', 5-28-81, Pete Foley, 00353
87 8119227)
VS Kayne Nelson
(Kilkenny, Ireland, 15-10-1/0, 70kg, 6', 12-1-87, Bernard Doyle: 00353 86
8175604)
- Gary Manogue who recently knocked out Gareth Porter in
Telford for the IKF 5 Nations Super
Welterweight Title added the IKF All
Ireland Title belt to his collection when he out pointed Kilkennys Kayne
Nelson over the championship distance by unanimous decision, 50-48, 49-48,
50-45 bringing his record to a perfect 10 and 0 with 6 by way of knockout.
- IKF
Amateur FCR European Super Middleweight Title
Cathal "Mean
Machine" Manning, (European Champion, 1st Defence, Galway,
Ireland, 22-7-2/0, 79kg, 6'3", 12-31-87, Pete Foley - Mob. 00353 87 8119227
- Tel/Fax: 00353 91 793020)
VS
Rob Burbridge (5 Nations Champion, Kent, England, 11-4/0, 79kg, 6'4",
1-14-85, Colin Payne: (TKO Gym, Kent) 0044 7912577773)
- Cathal Manning made a mandatory defence of his IKF European Super Middleweight Title against Rob
Burbridge in the last fight of the night. He took the judges unanimous
decision, 49-48, 50-48, 49-48, in a fight that could have went either way as it
was an over and back affair. however when you fight the Champion in his own back
yard you have to be very convincing and Mannings head kicks obviously
caught the judges eyes.

COLLINS
KEEP
IKF WORLD TITLE
IKF Amateur World Champion Ashley Collins
successfully defended his IKF World
Amateur Light Cruiserweight title at the Amadeus Nightclub on Sunday and
after a tough fight with Adam McDermid he emerged with a unanimous
points decision from the judges.
The contest was competitive from the opening bell with Adam
trying hard at all times to impose his greater size and strength on Collins
while Ashley was looking to do sharp work in countering. The result was
put beyond doubt when with 30 seconds remaining in the last round Ashley
scored a knockdown. Hitting Adam first with a jump back kick he followed
up with a round house kick to the body to put him down and though he was up
before the count of 10, this put the decision firmly the way of the Champion.

T.J. Arcangle...
Is
He Ready for his Toughest Test?
Gabriel
Carrasco of San Jose, California Means Business!
Tickets On Sale Now Online
|
It's been almost a year since A.K.
Promotions' President Johnny Davis made an agreement with
trainer Kru Sam Phimsoutham of San Francisco, CA about the potential of
making his new up and coming fighter with only two fights at the time a
champion. Since that time Light Welterweight T.J. Arcangle ( Pictured
Left & Right - lands head kick ) has continued to prove himself fight
after fight. His first impressive showing last September at the Tommy T's Comedy and Dinner Theatre in Rancho
Cordova, CA in front of a standing room only crowd, impressed many in
attendance with his level of skill, finesse and fluency in the art of Muay Thai
Kickboxing. He would out - class the next two opponents winning an IKF California Title along the way with each fight
seeming to offer more skill and toughness for Arcangle to conquer.
Davis has kept Arcangle moving forward to the
world title shot he promised. Furthermore, T.J. continues his winning
streak in impressive fashion. Promoting a World Title event is nothing new for
Davis as he gave another talented fighter Mike "Mad Dog"
Morello of Santa Barbara, CA, a shot at a world title on one of his shows
some years back. Morrello fought a tough fight against multi time
IKF
World Tournament Champion Anthony McGaughey of Norman,
Oklahoma but was out-gunned in a unanimous decision loss.
Arcangle, who is relatively soft spoken, has been
offered the same opportunity for a world title shot but the question is will he
be able to prove himself against his toughest test to date. July 2nd, 2010 at
the Sacramento Doubletree Hotel's Grand Ballroom
will be the night he must leave it all in the ring when he attempts to go to the
next tier - fighting for the United States IKF
Super Welterweight Muay Thai Championship in the Full Rules division which
includes the use of elbows as an additional weapon. Additionally, two other
title fights will be on the card that evening along with a packed under card of
local up and coming men and women fighters.
He will be up against another young, hungry and impressive
fighter... Gabriel Carrasco (Below L) of San Jose, CA. Carrasco's
trainer Derek Yuen came to San Jose after living in Milwaukee Wisconsin.
When there he trained with former IKF Pro
World Champion Duke Roufus. While under Roufus, Yuen became a 2
time
IKF
World Tournament Champion and former Wisconsin Light Heavyweight Muay
Thai Champion. He was undoubtedly one of the most talented fighters in Muay
Thai with great kicks and good boxing skills which made him a standout when he
fought both in Wisconsin and in the Bay Area. Based on Carassco's
undefeated record of 11-0, his rough and tough fighting style and the fact that
he is already the IKF West Coast Champion
in another weight class, Arcangle will have his hands full and his 7-0
record could be in jeopardy. T.J.'s trainer, Kru Sam knows
first hand the skill of Carrasco as another one of his fighters was
knocked out by Carrasco in the final round of their bout that Sam's
fighter was winning a few years back.
Yuen is high on his fighter and believes his champ is
the best and will school the lesser experienced Arcangle. Any way you
look at it, this will surely be a night where someone's "0"
will go!
For T. J. to lose, it would certainly delay his future
goals of becoming a world champion in the amateur ranks. A win would continue
him on the path to becoming what so many only dream of but never get the
opportunity. For Carrasco, a win would clearly set him apart and he
would be the man to beat for some time. If the fight is close, there could be a
possible rematch / title defense but otherwise, the winner would continue to
move forward to an eventual world championship opportunity.
There is a lot at stake for both of these young fighters but
regardless of who wins in the ring that night, the biggest winners will be the
fans in attendance as well as the sport of Muay Thai Kickboxing! In the words
of one of the top trainers in the area Kirian Fitzgibbons of Dublin, CA
"This should be one of the best Muay Thai fights in this area in some
time and I'm excited to see this match!" Here's hoping there are a lot
of people who feel the same and this fight will continue to prove why IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing is among the most exciting
fight sports ever!
Forward March!

As always the Lind-Sullivan Team left nothing
to chance and every detail was planned to perfection. Patti, the reason
we go to Eau Claire, picked me up at the airport and we headed to one of the
smoothest run fights I have ever seen. The judges; Mike Madden, Bruce Smith
and Jim Bussen were well experienced and every call was considered fair
and impartial. Referee Jim Peterson ran the fights with a stern hand and
let the fighters do what they do best. Sky Drysdale, the voice of
kickboxing, was there with his crystal clear pipes and every fighter's name
became the center of attention as they were introduced to the crowd. And
speaking of the crowd, it was standing room only a half an hour before the
fights began. Well on to the fight results.

Dates To Note About
THE
FIRST DEADLINE DATE
Of The 2010
IKF
World Classic
- WHAT HAPPENS AT FIRST DEADLINE, JUNE 4th?
- A LOT!
- Today, May 10th, 2010 we are 26 days away from the FIRST DEADLINE of JUNE 4th for this years 2010 IKF
World Classic Tournament.
- The only BRACKETS or WEIGHT DIVISIONS that remain open and
available to join by end of day of the first deadline of June 4th will be those with a
minimum of 1 fighter registered in them. So if you are waiting for a bracket to
fill, you could very well miss out on fighting in your preferred weightclass and
rule style if you don't register prior to the First Registration Deadline of June 4th.
- At the end of the first deadline, "SEEDING" no longer
matters for regional fighters as well as last years Champions.
- After the first deadline of June 4th, seeding is confirmed by the date
your registration is received.
- After the first deadline date of June 4th, 2009 Champions (As in the
same weightclass & Rule Division as 2009) will no longer be
automatically seeded number 1.
- After the first deadline date of June 4th, having registered for a Regional
Seeding event will not give you a higher seeding.
- Prior to the first deadline of June 4th, if you are not a returning 2009
Champion and you do not attend a Regional, you will be seeded according to WHEN
your registration was received here at the IKF
Offices - 2009 Champions and 2009 Regional participants will be seeded above you
up until the first deadline date of June 4th.
- After the first deadline of June 4th ALL FIGHTERS will be seeded according
to WHEN your registration is RECEIVED
here at the IKF Offices, NOT POSTMARKED.
- LAST YEARS NOTES
- Last year, 4 days prior to the first deadline we had 42 registered
fighters.
- By the end of the first deadline day last year the first deadline record
was SHATTERED with a record number of 167 registered fighters. "71"
of those registrations came in on the final deadline day.
- A week later and our registration numbers were at 203.
- When the registration stopped, we ended up with 280 registered fighters for
the 2009 IKF World
Classic.
- Also, the South East Regional
happens on May 29th, so a lot of fighters from that region will wait
to register the week after that regional which is the final week of
registrations.

IKF NEWS
IKF
Still Number 1
It's no surprise that the sport of Mixed Martial Arts has delt
a blow to the sport of Kickboxing and Muay Thai. However, those associated with
the IKF, International Kickboxing Federation
don't seem to notice that blow as hard as other organizations. This is because
those associated with the IKF have always
worked hard and continued to focus on one main principle... "Persistence".
It is by this focus that those associated with the IKF have kept the sport of Kickboxing and Muay Thai
in the headlines for the many "Stand-Up" fight fans around the
world. Last year the IKF finished with
record breaking numbers for events, participants and title fights, far ahead of
any of the other sanctioning bodies. From the very first IKF Sanctioned event, through the record breaking
IKF World Classic
Amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai Tournament to the last event of
2009, it was those associated with the IKF
that saw the rewards of hard work which was the drive to be number 1.
As in the past, the IKF
website traffic ranking has always finished as the highest traffic rated
Kickboxing Sanctioning body website on the internet. While other sanctioning
bodies combine their traffic between their kickboxing and MMA events, the IKF site has continued to be number 1 from
Kickboxing and Muay Thai alone while the ISCF, the IKF's
sister sanctioning body for Mixed Martial Arts beat out all but 1 other
sanctioning body for the 3rd top sanctioning body spot worldwide.
To see all the updated Alexa rankings (
www.Alexa.com
) for internet sites, click HERE.
Like in Golf, the lower the number, the more traffic the site receives. Numbers
are based on the 30 million plus web sites worldwide today. Ranked at 817,066
among the 30 million ranked websites worldwide, the IKF
Kickboxing web sites nearest competitor is at 1,065,641 with the
ISCF
site ranking third at 1,113,988. As little as 5 years ago the IKF site was on
the 100,000 rankings. However, in just 5 years, the number of websites on the
internet has went from 5 million to over 30 million which include a tremendous
amount of new web sites related to MMA.
Next time when you are wondering who's reading about your
event, your fight, your fighters, or looking at who the Champions of Kickboxing
and Muay Thai are, know that more people read about you right here on the IKF web site more than ANY other Kickboxing site in
the world! The ONLY Sanctioning body website with News, Upcoming Event
Listings, past and current Champions and of course, Amateur and Pro Rankings!
All part of what continues to keep the IKF
organization at number 1 in both Kickboxing and Muay Thai!

12th Annual IKF World
Classic
Kickboxing & Muay Thai Championship Tournament
Comparing The Numbers From The Last "2"
Years
VS This Years IKF
World Classic Numbers...
|
The first deadline for the
2008
IKF World Classic was June 20th. On
May 14th of 2008, basically 5 weeks prior to that first deadline, we had 16
fighters registered. That included an early registration of 10 Fighters from
England and the remaining 6 from the USA. By the end of all deadlines in 2008 we
had 262 registered fighters. By weigh-ins we had 241 scheduled to show up to
weigh-in and "Walk the Walk". After weigh-ins, we had a
confirmed 229 fighters fight in a total of 181 bouts in the second largest
IKF
Tournament ever.
The first registration deadline for the
2009
IKF World Classic was June 19th. On
May 18th, 2009 we had 7 registered fighters. By the end of all deadlines last
year we had 280 registered fighters. By weigh-ins we had 251 scheduled to show
up to weigh-in and "Walk the Walk". After weigh-ins, we had a
confirmed 237 fighters fight in a total of 168 bouts in what replaced the
previous year as the second largest IKF Tournament
ever.
The first Deadline
for this years 12th Annual 2010 IKF World Classic is
June 4th, 2010.
As of today, May 4th, 2010, we already have 10 Registered Fighters for this years
IKF
World Classic. Simply put, we are ahead of schedule as compared to
the last 2 years which is great news for this years event.
As in years past, people have been asking if there will be a "Novice
Division" this year or an "Over 40 Division". One
tournament this year added over '170' Fighters to their tournament by
adding classes below an "OPEN Division". Although these are
good ideas, the IKF made the decision last
year to not offer any Novice Divisions at this time. This is because so many 0-0
fighters have had great success against far more experienced fighters at the
IKF Tournament. In all, the IKF Tournament matches "Everyone"
and in the end, there is ONE GREAT World Champion! This is not to say we will
never add a novice division, it's just that at this time, there are no immediate
plans to do so.
As noted before, the Prestige of winning the IKF World Classic has
always been high since it's an open competition against ANY and ALL
"AMATEUR" Fighters. Some say they don't want a Novice Division
because a Champion in a Novice Division will claim to be an IKF World Classic
Champion, but never say he or she was a NOVICE Champion. Much like the 8
year old who receives a
JUNIOR Black Belt, but never mentions he was a JUNIOR Black
Belt, which is FAR From a REAL Black Belt.
We know there have been fighters out there hesitant about
coming to this tournament because they don't have a lot of experience. Let it be
known that every year we have had fighters with NO FIGHTS "Walk the
Walk" and walk out of the ring as Champions.
At the 2008
IKF World Classic, 4 fighters with
0-0 records entered the Tournament and won the Title. They were,
- Hanna Wilson of Byhalia, Mississippi,
USA won the Junior Girls, Muay Thai Rules Flyweight Title.
- Eric Ingram of Eads, Tennessee, USA
won the Junior Boys Muay Thai Rules Light Middleweight Title.
- Travis Mason of Wanship, Utah, USA
won the Adult Men's Full Contact Rules, Light Heavyweight Title.
- Alister Wilson of Apopka, Florida,
USA won the, Muay Thai Rules Super Heavyweight Title.
At last years 2009 IKF World Classic,
3 fighters entered the tournament with 0-0 records and won their title, and one
who was 0-1. They were,
- Ricky Turcios of Spring, Texas, USA
won the Junior Boys 16 year old Bantamweight Muay Thai Title.
- Conrad Martinez of Chandler, Arizona,
USA won the Adult men's Bantamweight Muay Thai Title.
- Mojtaba Najim Wazl of Alexandria,
Virginia, USA entered the Tournament with a record of 0-1 and won all 3 of his
bouts in the Adult Men's Heavyweight Muay Thai division to take home the
Tournament Title which included his first win by "HEAD KICK" KO at
1:46 of round 1.
- David Sharp of Pacific, Missouri, USA
entered the Tournament with a record of 0-1 and won the Adult Men's Super
Heavyweight International Rules Title which included his title fight win against
a fighter with a record of 13-5-1 with 5 KO's!
There were loads of great moments at last years IKF World Classic. The question is, WHO
will be remembered for their moment of Glory this year? Here are just "Some"
of the examples of greatness from last years IKF World Classic Tournament... |
|
- Becky Hallaran
and son Keegan becoming the first ever, mother, son
combination to win Tournament titles in the same year.
- Seeing 17 year old Eli
McGlothlin win the IKF
Tournament Title a RECORD Setting "5 Years in a Row!"
He won his first at age 13!
- Evan Thompson's
"Jaw Dropping" neck kick KO at :27 seconds of round 1 was
impressive as he won the quickest KNOCKOUT!
- However, it was 9 year old Brad Zbilski (No photo available)
who won this quickest win in the Tournament with his TKO victory at only :26
seconds of round 1.
- Julie Keppler
becoming the oldest fighter to win the IKF
Tournament title at 44 years old.
- Justin
Lawrence tieing the record of winning 6 IKF
Tournament titles (John Greubel won his 6th title at the
2007 IKF
World Tournament before turning professional.) AND becoming the
first ever to win the IKF tournament title
in all 3 rule styles!
- Sean McKinnon's
HEAD KICK KO at 59 seconds of round 2 to win his title!
- Constance Thomason
and Danielle Wilson meeting for the 3 time in the Tournament, two of
those times was for the Tournament Championship. In this match-up, Thomason
defeated Wilson by unanimous decision to win the title.
- Nathan Key
becoming a "4 Time" IKF World
Classic Champion!
- But the one that stood out the most in our minds was the memory of the most
impressive Knock Out of the tournament! A "Spinning Hook Kick"
by the first fighter to win "4" Tournament bouts by TKO/KO, Eric
Parker! Parker won his Championship bout at 48 seconds of round 1! This
Spinning Hook Kick came after he defeated all 3 of his previous opponents by TKO
as he worked his way through the largest fighter bracket of the tournament. To

Cesar "El
Mego" Palomera
Wins IKF World
Championship
Article & Photos By Bob Cohen
of Banderas News
In the main event at the "Fight of the Bicentennial"
Friday night at Plaza De Toros La Paloma, Puerto Vallarta's own Cesar "El
Mego" Palomera destroyed Marck "Jaipetch"
Deluca of Pittsburgh, PA with a third brutal knockdown and TKO stopped by
referee Dan Stell 38 seconds into the 2nd round to win the undisputed
IKF Super Lightweight World Championship
belt. With
IKF President Steve Fossum at
ringside, the team of the IKF and Felix
Perez of Sierra Madre Productions helped make the long night
that ended at 1:30 AM a big night for Palomera and almost every Puerto
Vallarta fighter.
After a minute of feeling each other out in the scheduled five
round bout, Palomera assaulted Deluca with brutal kicks and
punches that landed him flat on his back as the popular "El Mego"
prematurely went to a neutral corner and jumped victoriously. Deluca
however was able to continue and shook the cobwebs just a bit, but seconds
before the end of the opening round Palomera put him back on the canvas
with another vicious knockdown.
At the end of the round the ring doctor wanted to call the
fight, but experienced referee Dan Stell spoke to Deluca in the
corner and he seemed aware although hurt. Stell told him if he went down
again he would end the fight and the bell sounded for the second round. Palomera
didn't want to wait for his opponent to regain his complete senses and at 38
seconds "El Mego" again launched an assault that put the
American on the canvas for the third time and there was not a thought of
allowing the fight to continue.
Stell called for the bell as frenzied fans, friends and
family went wild as a world championship belt came to Puerto Vallarta. Strangely
enough, as Palomera ended the fight he caught an elbow above his eye and
bled profusely during the belt presentation and festivities that followed. That
made one wonder that if Deluca wasn't so badly hurt early, if the fight
would have been a different one. Talks of a rematch are already being uttered. |

There were also two other IKF
Pro Title bouts on the undercards. The bout before the main event pitted Puerto
Vallarta's Gregorio "Dragoncito" Gabriel, holder of
two Mexican National belts, one an IKF
belt, take on Luis "La Cobra" Perez of Mexico City, an
IKF Mexican title belt holder. This was in
the lightweight division and for the IKF
Mexican national championship in a five round fight. "Dragoncito"
is a shorter powerfully built fighter and Perez was taller and had more
range and agility which made for an anything can happen fight.
Perez appeared to control the pace of the fight but
Gabriel always bounced back and responded when the fighter from Mexico
City got off first. The two fighters were obviously well trained and at times it
was difficult for Gregorio to get inside. The fight was even after two
rounds to the human eye, but the 3rd round was a wild one. "Dragoncito"
knocked Perez down in the opening minute of the round for a standing
eight count, which meant that if Gregorio held control, he would win the
round 10-8, a huge advantage in a five round fight. Perez bounced back
and fought effectively but later in the round Gregorio knocked him down
again for another eight count. With the round clearly in his favor he made the
horrible mistake of landing a low blow in the waning seconds of the round and
with that came a one point deduction.
The fourth round had good, quick and powerful exchanges but
after the insane 3rd round, this was very tame but very close to call. The 5th
and final round bell rang and both fighters battled as if they needed to win the
round to win the fight. That is how close the fight was. Late in the round Perez
connected with a solid kick that sent Gabriel to the canvas for a
knockdown and a point lost and all the fans felt that sealed the fate of the
Puerto Vallarta fighter. The bout ended with Gabriel unable to do any
damage and they went to the scorecards for the decision.
The math for adding the score for this bout was quite a job and
I was asked to double check the results. The 3rd round had so many deductions
due to the knockdowns and the warning point taken and the final round was a 10-8
round. The fighters entered the ring for the announcement of the decision. Perez
from Mexico City appeared confident and Gabriel was in all honesty
hoping for the best. The ring announcer first stated that it was a split
decision and the first two scores were 47-46 and 46-47. A draw? The last judge
scored the fight 47-45 in favor of "Puerto Vallarta's "Dragoncito"
and he was given the IKF Mexican
championship belt amid the celebration.
The first championship bout was for the IKF Mexican lightweight North Coast belt between
Puerto Vallarta's Hector "El Hierro" Uribe and Carlos
"El Escorpion" Navarro - ( Carlos Singto Sitmonchai ) of
Guadalajara. This was a revenge match for Uribe as he was once beaten by
Navarro. Uribe started strong and cut open Navarros' eye in the
1st round and took the round 10-8. That was an important start as a two point
lead in a five round fight means that only one more round is needed to win if
all go 10-9. The cut was fortunately below his eye so it didn't impede with his
performance. In fact he became the aggressor the remaining four close rounds as
he got off first with his kicks and punches.
Round after round the Guadalajara fighter appeared to pile up
points and as the bell rang for the 5th and final round, it was Uribe
who was desperately looking to mount some offense. The final round was a close
one and there were no knockdowns and the judges went to the scorecards for the
official decision. Again, it was announced as a split decision, 48-46 for Navarro,
48-47 for Uribe and the final score was 48-46 for Navarro who
captured the IKF Northern Mexican title
and defeated Uribe for the second consecutive time in a well fought
fight.
Just prior to the three professional fights there was a boxing
exhibition between two youngsters, both from Power Punch Gym in Puerto Vallarta.
Picachu and Hector "El Tapatio" Vargas, either around
9 or 10 years old, went two rounds and displayed great ring savvy. The two have
been crowd favorites for a few years and were well received.
To start the evening there were nine amateur Muay Thai bouts
and most had local Puerto Vallarta fighters from different gyms fighting against
a group that traveled from Mexico City. There were some bouts that had Vallarta
fighters from different gyms facing each other.
(See undercard results in the first results article below)
After a tally of all the fights, Puerto Vallarta fighters fared
very well. They won two of the three title fights, including the IKF super lightweight World Championship. In amateur
fights they won three fights against the Mexico City fighters, losing just one
with one a draw.
As the long night came to a close at about 1:30 AM, everyone in
attendance in a crowd of about 1,000 left pleased with the superb event held by
Sierra Madre Productions in
accordance with President Steve Fossum of the IKF.
The collaboration of the two bodies went well and we hope to see the IKF again in the near future in another big Muay
Thai fight card. |

Kru
Yong of Sacramento, California
Scores Excellent On His
IKF/PKB Tournament
This
Past Weekend!
Kru Yong Saiyarath of Sacramento a master instructor of
the Art of Muay Thai Kickboxing and trainer of many talented fighters in the
area held yet another successful IKF Point Kickboxing©
Tournament this past weekend in Sacramento, CA at the Inderkum High School.
On a Saturday afternoon, one that many were thinking about the
super bout between Boxing Champions Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Shane
Mosely, over 60 fighters including men, women and children came to compete
in this semi-contact event and still got home in time to enjoy the showcase of
talent by both fighters but in particular...the"Money Man."
The IKF/PKB
action was as always, hot and heavy but everyone seemed to really enjoy the
action as well as the experience of developing their skills in the great sport
of Muay Thai/Kickboxing. As always, Kru Yong was an excellent host
allowing the event to flow while making sure he kept all factors of the event
running smoothly. His next IKF/PKB
event is scheduled for September 11, 2010.
Special thanks to Mr. Yong for being an advocate for
IKF Point Kickboxing©...the fastest growing semi-contact division
on the martial arts circuit. Special thanks also to IKF/PKB officials, David Rosales, Rich
Davis, Sean Cronin and Bobby Rosales who did an excellent job
judging and keeping the fight moving quickly and fairly
IKF/PKB
President Johnny Davis spoke to all in attendance and reminded everyone
of the IKF's commitment to safety and
fairness to all who attend their events. He brought attention to other events
taking place in the area but reminded them that if the event is not listed on
the IKF events web page, IKF/PKB events web
page or AKP web pages, that the IKF Is not a part of
the event!
He reminded them of the quote recently given to him by a friend
in the sport..."fill up the pool and everyone floats"...in
relationship to continuing to grow the sport of Muay Thai / Kickboxing. He
hopes this is the case as others do their events but cautions lack of
understanding of this type of competition and especially keeping them safe for
all competitors... could have a counter-affect...in that "everyone
sinks."
