Returns to Atlanta, Georgia Area
Emerson, Georgia - Friday, June 10th & Saturday June 11th, 2016!
In
Conjunction With The World Fitness Expo!
Last June as part of the World Fitness Expo, AK Promotions - www.AKPromotions.org brought a night of IKF Kickboxing Action to the Atlanta area. The event was held at the World Congress Center. Fighters from across the region came and participated in this exciting event. Two women titles were presented as both Anna Crutchfield and Aracely Valenzuela won IKF Titles on the night. It was just confirmed that AK Promotions will be returning to the Atlanta area again this year as part of the World Fitness Expo that will be held on June 10th and 11th at the beautiful and huge Lakepoint Sporting Community located at 755 Hwy 293 Emerson, Georgia. In short, Lakepoint is like a small city for sports enthusiasts! In fact, they have so much going on, you will need to read about it yourself at their website at www.lakepointsports.com - It's a wow thing happening there! Mr. Sam Butler and his World Fitness Expo host assorted fitness outlets like, Weight Lifting, Aerobic Contest, Arm Wrestling, Grappling and so many more Cross Fit Programs that it boggles the mind to be amidst all of the great athletes and celebrities that were there last year. Based on last year's event, one would have to be impressed with the great turnout and the professionalism of all the groups in attendance and this year's event will be even bigger! As part of the expo last year, AK Promotions and the IKF did not go unnoticed among the excitement. AK Promotions presented an exciting night of Kickboxing on the Friday night, followed by another exciting event, the IKF Point Kickboxing Tournament the next day. AK Promotions will be following the same course this year with a Full Contact Kickboxing show on Friday June 10th starting at 7:PM and an IKF "Semi Contact" Point Kickboxing tournament on Saturday morning June 11th around noon. Additional information will be available for that event the first of March. Gyms interested in being on the full contact show can send in their interest to Email Please also send in Title worthy fighters Men, Women and Juniors and we will see if there is the right match for them! Remember, going forward, we are only matching fights for IKF Unified Rules For IKF Uniform Rules Click HERE. AK Promotions will not start officially accepting stats for matchmaking the nights fight card until the end of March. AK Promotions' also has an April 9th event on the calendar and they are also looking at another potential event in late May. Feel free to contact AK Promotions if you have questions about the June 10th and 11th event in Emerson, Georgia or any AK Promotions events at (843) 773-1005 or go to www.AKPromotions.org |

AK Promotions With respect to the great art of Muay Thai, we feel that it is much too difficult to get everyone up to speed with the assorted judging criteria's that exist in the more traditional art of Muay Thai. With the exciting news we hope to share with you in the coming days, we feel that now is the best time for this decision. This decision will only effect AK Promotions events. The IKF sanctions an assortment of fight styles and will continue to do so. We will continue to offer options in the IKF Point ( Semi Contact ) Kickboxing Divisions including International Rules, Modified Muay Thai and Unified Rules But to be honest, if you are only prepared for International rules where knees are not allowed based on the direction of our sport, you may miss out on many fight opportunities as most are doing knees these days. Moreover, we feel that this decision also aligns better with larger and televised organizations like Glory and now Bellator who will also do the Unified Rules of Kickboxing. For years, AK Promotions along with the International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) has been an incubator for the sport of Kickboxing across the board and will continue to do so. Fighters coming from our events will be better prepared to compete in these top level events with little adjustment to their rule style as is the case now for Muay Thai stylist. To also be considered is the more fight fans can relate with one rule style, the faster our sport will grow and be accepted as a credible contact sport! IKF Unified Rules will keep the action moving while still allowing fighters to use most of their tools minus the elbows and sweeps. The temporary clinch and applying knee strikes is allowed in UR as well as not having to clinch at all to throw a knee. Although some Unified Rule bouts only allow one knee, other UR rules like those of the IKF, will allow you to throw multiple knees but fighters cannot clinch like in Muay Thai. Fighters will be asked to break as in FCR, IR or Boxing. We here at AK Promotions feel that whether in Muay Thai or MMA Fights, it seems that most fight fans prefer the continuous striking as oppose to the tussle and manipulation seen in some of these Muay Thai bouts at least at this level. Top level Muay Thai fighters better understand how to work the clinch and therefore may be able to keep bouts more exciting and active. (AKP will keep the aforementioned option open in special cases) However, this has not been the case in our experience thus far and in order for more fighters to get a fair rulings etc, limiting some of the tools, will make for easier judging, refereeing and perhaps more exciting bouts! Additionally, What we have found at this level and in building the sport in this Southeastern Region of USA is that not only do judges and referees have a problem properly officiating Muay Thai bouts, but it also seems that too many fighters are not prepared for the long clinches, barrage of knees, sweeps and in some cases elbows etc and therefore, we feel more injuries will occur as well. Not to mention just the other night, two gentlemen were fighting in a cage for a Full Rule Muay Thai fight, one did a spinning elbow and the cut that resulted from this blow was just terrible! One could argue, it's just the fight game but another could argue that the two fighters were fighting under rules that were not completely understood and, or that either were prepared for. It's easy to let two willing fighters go at it with little rules but we feel implementation of certain rules will keep fighters safer while still providing great entertainment on our AK Promotions events. Furthermore, at this level, we do not feel an injury like this balances the level of compensation that any of these fighters and certainly the uncompensated amateur deserves now or ever frankly. It's just not the direction we want to see often with AK Promotions. Injuries like the aforementioned one will happen and have happened on our shows too but the case was the same an intentional and legal elbow strike that left a 2" cut in an fighter's head just not worth it. ( We are just not fans of the elbow to the head padded or more so, bone to bone equals CUT and a bad cut will limit a career as it will remain vulnerable for some time!) It is our goal to provide as much safety to our competitors as possible while allowing them to put on a great show! What we at AK Promotions want to promote is a top quality event that will show great athleticism and technique not a bloodfest! An event filled with the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat in a competitive environment will more than give the fans their money's worth! We want to keep our bouts action packed but would prefer both fighters leave the ring walking and not have life altering injuries to their appearance hence, why we are making our stance today for Unified Rules! Simply put Stand for something or Fall For Anything .Forward March! Thanks for your continued support of AK Promotions as we are dedicated to the longevity of the sport! To contact Mr. Johnny Davis (President of AK Promotions) directly you can call ( 843) 773-1005 or e-mail at Johnnyd@akpromotions.org or go to www.AKPromotions.org

LION FIGHT
ADDS TO
INTERNATIONAL PROFILE
BY PARTNERING WITH AUSTRALIA'S WARRIORS WAY
Published
on: February 22, 2016 By: S. Zerr
Lion Fight Promotions continues to grow its brand of electrifying Muay Thai action on an international level by announcing a new partnership with Warriors Way, the largest promotion in Australia and New Zealand. To launch their new agreement in exciting fashion, Warriors Way, will hold a four-man tournament with the winner earning a spot on a future Lion Fight card. That tournament will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at Warriors Way, #15 taking place at the Doncaster Shopping Town Hotel.
"In over 25 years of working to develop Muay Thai in Australia, this has to be one of the most exciting developments for the sport and for me personally," said Warriors Way, CEO Mark Castagnini.
"I'm so pleased to partner with Lion Fight, a truly global brand and a true force in Muay Thai and combat sports. The opportunity to give fighters from the Oceania region the ability to showcase their skills and challenge other fighters in Lion Fight events will no doubt be a dream come true for them."
The Lion Fight / Warriors Way partnership comes on the heels of Lion Fight's first international talent-sharing agreement with England's Muay Thai Grand Prix. Victor Saravia is the first in line to carry the Lion Fight flag into battle inside the MTGP ring when he faces Daniel McGowan on March 26th at The O2 in London.
"It is our aim to take the Lion Fight brand worldwide and become the undisputed premier promotion in the sport of Muay Thai. Teaming up with prestigious international promotions like Warriors Way and Muay Thai Grand Prix is a superb start to the plan," said Scott Kent, CEO & President of Lion Fight."The idea to share our talent pools is really a massive opportunity for the fighters to present themselves on the biggest stage in the sport inside the Lion Fight ring."

KICKBOXING NEWS...
Scott
Coker | ||
Many today may not remember who the largest Kickboxing Promoter in North America was back in the 90's. Heck, some of you were not even born, let alone watching or even participating in the fight sports. However, all of us here at the IKF do. It was Scott Coker who created the Kickboxing Promotion "STRIKEFORCE" which later became "Strikeforce MMA". Coker's love for Kickboxing never left him. Well Kickboxing fans, you can stand up and cheer again because Scott Coker is BACK, this time under the new banner, "Bellator Kickboxing!" Coker made it clear in his press conference (See YouTube link below) that they will not be promoting Muay Thai bouts. Their focus will be on "K-1 Rules" Kickboxing, So no elbows or clinches. Many know Bellator as the biggest competition of the UFC. However, many others see what Bellator has done has made them a much larger Fan Favorite brand than the UFC. Add in Kickboxing and just like that, Bellator just added an entire new fan base. Bellator Kickboxing is scheduled for an April 16th launch on Spike like Bellator MMA. According to sources, the Bellator staff will operate Bellator Kickboxing out of its current Santa Monica, California offices. According to sources, Coker said he jumped at the opportunity to start his own promotion once the relationship between Spike TV and GLORY disbanded in 2015. "We know how to do this as good or better than anybody," Coker said. "Because this kickboxing business is something I've been doing for a long time. It's something that I felt like, we could do it properly. Let's get our fighters that want to fight in kickboxing, who are fighting MMA right now, and let them fight on both sides of the ledger." "If you look at our roster we have a lot of fighters that can cross over and do both," Coker said. "When you look at the TV side they liked having kickboxing as part of their programming. We can do a great job, have the fan base that Bellator has already and really market to them and speak to them." The April 16 event will be co-promoted with Oktagon Kickboxing's Pala Alpitour in Turin, Italy. Spike will air a live Bellator MMA event as a lead-in. The Bellator Kickboxing event will feature Melvin Manhoef VS Alexandru Negrea headlines the kickboxing event along with Mustapha Haida VS Karim Ghajii. Coker's plan with Bellator Kickboxing is to feature Stand-Up fighting stars such as Joe Schilling, Raymond Daniels, Kevin Ross, Keri Taylor-Melendez and Anastasia Yankova. Some events will feature a mix of MMA and kickboxing bouts. According to Coker, Fighters will be free to compete in one or both promotions. You can watch the entire press conference announcement by clicking the link below. Having been a part of so many former Kickboxing Champions careers, this decision was no surprise to us here. With Champions such as, but certainly not limited to, Pro Fighter like Javier "Thunder" Mendez, who on his birthday in 1992 celebrated by winning his first Light Cruiserweight World Title. After a brief retirement 2 years later, he came back again and in 1995 he won his second World title in the Light Heavyweight division, eventually retiring to focus on his Martial Arts Gym. Javier's Gym, American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose California is one of the most successful fight gyms in the country producing loads of great fighters, many who went on to fight on Coker's Strikeforce MMA events. Through the years Javiar remained close with Scott and said just recently as Strikeforce faded into the history books, Scott never changed as he was, and still is all about the fights and the fighters. "He's driven to make great shows," Mendez said. "He's never been driven by popularity, or fame or attention. He was driven by creating great things, by putting on shows fans wanted to see, by doing things that people thought couldn't be done. He's had great, great success over the years, but he's still the same guy. If he gives you his word, you can rely on it. His word is golden. He's one of those rare people you meet, who when he tells you he is going to do something, he does it. Javier was one of Scott's big name Main Events along with others such as Francis "Footloose" Farley who in 1989 won the North American Middleweight title. In 1993 he won the Middleweight World title and in 1995 he won the Light Middleweight World title. Other Kickboxing stars of Coker's promotion included Jean Claude Leuyer who won the Intercontinental Super Heavyweight title on March 13, 1994 and eventually the Super Heavyweight World title in 2 different rule styles. Two time World Champion Curtis "Battlecat" Schuster and San Shou World Champion and eventual Strikeforce and UFC Champion Cung Le were also parts of Coker's Super Stars. And of course, the late former World Champion Alex Gong, and other Fairtex fighters such as Jongsanan Fairtex, Bunkerd Faphimai, George Tsutsui & Enn Fairtex (Janthakhunkick) Simply said, Scott created a lot of Champion and Star Kickboxers. His events were what many referred to as "The Last of the Known Kickboxers". This was because after ESPN didn't renew their contract he stopped Promoting Kickboxing and Muay Thai. Because of this, there was no more Kickboxing on TV. TV, as it did with the UFC and MMA, made the sport, and with it, the Stars. With no more Kickboxing TV deal, there were no more Kickboxing Stars, leaving it up to web sites such as the IKF's to be one of the only places future Kickboxing and Muay Thai Stars would be known. |

THE
IKF IS BACK IN
ARIZONA...
AGAIN...
|
As some here may or mat not know, State Athletic Commissions change Executive Directors and Board Members just like any company does. Over the last 20+ years as a worldwide sanctioning body the IKF has had to re-apply for approval in dozens of States around the nation, some, several times. One such state has been Arizona. However, we are proud to announce that once again the IKF has been approved to sanction/regulate Amateur Kickboxing and Muay Thai in the State of Arizona. Over the years there has been many IKF Arizona Promoters. However there is one promoter who's been loyal to the IKF as well as very helpful in getting the IKF re-approved each time, Richard Williams (R). Williams is from Camp Verde, Arizona and has been a part of the IKF since 2003. Richards main quest now though is becoming a part of the Arizona Boxing & Mixed Martial Arts Commission as an official. For any Arizona based Promoters looking to sanction their upcoming events with the IKF please send us an e-mail to main@ikfkickboxing.com as we look forward to working with all of you who have been inquiring over the last several months. |
|
Since the beginning of the IKF
there have been quite a few IKF Champions
out of Arizona winning both Sanction Ranked titles as well as IKF Tournament titles.
For more info about the IKF's plans in Arizona please send us an e-mail to main@ikfkickboxing.com - Thank You. |

As part of the Grand Strand Fight Night IKF Championship Kickboxing show, there was the day time IKF Point Kickboxing Tournament. Always fun and exciting with great competition, this one did not disappoint! AK Promotions discovered a lot of talent, many of them ready to step into the full contact ring. They also met those that did their first real competition and found out that they needed more condition etc. but plan to come back stronger next time. The value of the IKF PKB has proven as a true incubator for the great sport of Kickboxing as we continue to encourage those that want to move forward in the sport; be recognized for their skills in the infancy of their career and help them become a seasoned Champion.

Stephen "Wonderboy"
Thompson | |
Since the early 2000's, we've been telling everyone just how "Special & Different" Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson is as a fighter. How he had a different style of stance, explosive, blitz style attacks, amazing accuracy and how he would methodically pick his opponents apart with well timed, well targeted strikes. Unlike a lot of fighters, Thompson uses "Economy of movement" in pretty much every strike he throws. He doesn't just strike to strike, he strikes with a pin point accuracy of a specific target in mind... AND HITS IT! So where do these "Special" skills come from? NOT from "Fight" training... They can only be attained from one type of training... "Karate" Training. Yes, you read that correctly, "KARATE!" You know, the style of Martial Arts without the word "Mixed" in front of it. The martial art no one wants to give credit to when people like Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson makes a splash. Well, the critics can no longer ignore "Karate" as a viable "Fighting" style. At least not with an exciting "KARATE" style fighter like Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson making headlines in Pro MMA under the banner of the largest MMA organization, the UFC... Lets face it though... Isn't ANY form of Karate a "Mixed" Martial Art? Of course it is. There are many "Styles" of "Karate" though, or at least in general. However, most Tae Kwon Do practitioners will tell you they do not do "Karate", they do "Tae Kwon Do". Still, put them all together, call them what you want from Kenpo to Kempo to Kajukenbo, Shotokan to Kung Fu, Judo to JuJitsu and on and on and in the end, they are all Martial Arts. That being said, when we say Thompson has a "Karate" background, what we really mean is the actual "Art" form and "Discipline" that you only see in true "Karate" or "Martial Arts" training. If you've never trained in a "Belt" Martial Art system, you may have no idea what we're referring to. Thompson's strike accuracy started with "Point" Karate fighting, where simple activity or impact damage have little to do with winning. The ONLY things that matters in "Point" Karate are "Timing, Speed and Accuracy!" One of the many reason IKF Point Kickboxing is so popular, as it truly prepares fighters for the next level of full contact competition. A lot of fighters today simply kick and or punch to stay active, with no real "Set-Up" of a target. They just throw a kick, throw a punch, with little thought of things like fakes, counters, double-ups, transition of speed let alone the even deeper details of Psychological maneuvering or other "Karate" point fighting terms. It's a "discipline", not just a "Technique" and this's what set fighters like Thompson apart from fighters who have never taken any "disciplined" Martial Art. Although Thompson may be one of the most explosive Karate Fighters MMA has seen he isn't the first to makes waves in MMA with such skills. There were others before him who also took headlines of being Exciting Fighters. Fighters such as Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva, Georges St. Pierre, Cung Le, Anthony Pettis, Ronda Rousey, Pat Miletich, Bas Rutten, Chuck Liddell and even Conor McGregor, just to name a few. All of these fighters have a very "Different" style of fighting in MMA, a style that brought all of them success. Thankfully, what we've been telling everyone for years about Thompson is finally getting some deserving press from everyone else now... Enjoy Chad Dundas piece below from bleacherreport.com |

Johny Hendricks vs. Stephen Thompson - UFC Fight Night Highlights UFC's 'Wonderboy'
and the Re-Emergence of the Every time Stephen "Wonderboy"
Thompson hit him on Saturday night, Johny Hendricks got a look on
his face like, | |
Over the course of their three minutes and 31 seconds together, Hendricks' face took on that look quite frequently. It's hard to blame him; we were all shocked. Thompson's funky punches and kicks came from all angles during the main event of UFC Fight Night 82, and he outlanded Hendricks 24-7 in significant strikes en route to a first-round TKO victory. "I came out here to put on a good show," Thompson (12-1 overall, 7-1 UFC) told play-by-play man Jon Anik in the cage when the fight was over. "Hopefully everyone was impressed I didn't look for the knockout, I just let it happen. Hopefully I'll get that title shot, baby, that's what I want." To say the win was eye-opening would be an understatement. In one fell swoop, Thompson extended his welterweight-best win streak to six fights, made his bones as a serious man in the Octagon and perhaps established himself as the surprise No. 1 contender in the 170-pound division. More importantly, he might also have cemented the return of karate as a viable fighting style in the UFC. The traditional martial arts have long gotten short shrift in modern MMA. The Gracie family sponsored early UFCs as glorified infomercials for their Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighting style and quickly proved their pointthat a fighter had to know how to grapple to succeed in real-world hand-to-hand combat situations. Their early dominance briskly undid many previously long-held conventions about how to fight. Simply put, the Gracies made a lot of traditional, stand-up-oriented martial artists look like fools. Even as the legendary family faded from prominence in MMA, practitioners of no-frills Western systems like wrestling and kickboxing largely went on to dominate the next two decades. Classic movie-house forms were summarily overshadowed. A lot of professional fighters may well have started in karate, taekwondo or kung fu as kids, but few of them fought like it once they arrived in the Octagon. Former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, or at least his deltoid tattooclaimed allegiance to kempo karate, but he fought like a brawling kickboxer when it mattered. Welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre boasted a background in kyokushin, but he was known more for his dynamic wrestling during the heart of his UFC career. Only light heavyweight titlist Lyoto Machida stood out for his classic karate fighting styleand his reign on top was so short it became a punch line. Machida's elusiveness and counterstriking were always his calling card, but his patient, unorthodox methods sometimes seemed to work against him when judged according to MMA's unified rules. The Octagon forced fighting styles to evolve with unprecedented speed, and efficiency was at a premium. Techniques that were deemed outlandish or ineffective were quickly cast aside while less flashy but operational skills became the bedrock of modern MMA. However, this latestand arguably most unexpectedbend in the evolutionary road makes it seem as though some brands of traditional martial arts were dismissed too hastily. Without warning, our sport has perhaps crossed another generational threshold. Suddenly, little by little, MMA appears to be headed back to the dojo. Methods that were once considered dead on arrival in the Octagon are experiencing a revival. The results can be breathtaking to watch, as Bleacher Report's Jonathan Snowden noted: { TWITTER: Jonathan Snowden ? @JESnowden: There's nothing more beautiful than a really fluid karate guy. I think Thompson exceeds even Machida when it comes to pure aesthetics. 10:12 PM - 6 Feb 2016} Conor McGregor recently won the UFC featherweight title using a wide-open stance plucked straight from a 1970s grindhouse film. Despite a recent loss, 19-year-old Sage Northcutt has become one of the UFC's preferred young stars with his effortless front flips and his mashup of taekwondo and something called kajukenbo. It's also tempting to include Ronda Rousey in this group, as she cruised to the women's bantamweight title primarily on judo throws and a single submission hold (the armbar). None of them is purely one-dimensional, of course, but they are all more entrenched in their base styles than many successful MMA fighters of the recent past. Now comes Thompson, who is as pure and impressive a karate man as we have ever seen. The child prodigy started following his father to the gym at age three and began fighting in kickboxing and karate competitions at age 15. Martial arts were a Thompson family affair, and the tale he told Snowden this week made his journey sound more like a quest to claim his birthright than a way to target college scholarships or earn a career as a professional athlete: "We just grew up in it. There are football families, baseball families, basketball families. We're a karate family. We're a martial arts family. That's what we did. If we even hinted at wanting to do something else, it was like 'Nope.' This is it. This is what you're focusing on, and you're going to be great at it." In certain waysfrom his flashy striking style, to his fade haircut and Wonderboy nickname, Thompson is a throwback to bygone days. And yet he is also part of a meticulously cross-trained next generation. His brother-in-law is BJJ legend Carlos Machado, and these days he prepares for MMA bouts alongside former middleweight champion Chris Weidman. Thompson's performance on Saturday drew rave reviews from his training partner: {TWITTER: Chris Weidman ? @ChrisWeidmanUFC What!!!!! My brother @WonderboyMMA is a beast ! 9:55 PM - 6 Feb 2016} Still, it begs mentioning that Thompson's traditional martial arts upbringing made him the exact opposite of a guy like Hendricks. The former welterweight champion was forged by a much more common (and Western) lifestyle, going from high school wrestler to All-American at Oklahoma State University before transitioning to MMA. And maybe those differences were to blame for our hesitance to take Thompson seriously leading up to this bout. Even though he'd already won five in a row, including a highlight-reel spinning-hook-kick knockout of Jake Ellenberger last July, he entered this weekend as nearly a 2-1 underdog, according to Odds Shark. Hendricks was the more proven commodity, and maybe some of that anti-karate bias still kicked around in the back of our minds. We've had 20 years to convince ourselves that stuff doesn't work in MMA, after all. If that was the prevailing mindset, though, Thompson single-handedly did a lot to undo our prejudices. He battered Hendricks from start to finish. From the moment he threw a jumping kick during the fight's first 15 seconds, his speed advantage was evident. He disrupted Hendricks' plan to wrestle with a continual barrage of long-range strikes from his karate stance. With one minute and 30 seconds gone, Thompson landed a side kick to the body and immediately followed it up with a side kick to the head, and Hendricks made that face for the first time. Wait, what? Many of us who had anticipated a quick-and-easy win for the Oklahoma native likely had the same expression. This didn't go at all how we expected. The end began for Hendricks when Thompson blasted him with a right hand with 1:45 left in the opening stanza. Thompson followed it up with a series of strikes against the fence, including one kick that appeared to stray low. There was a spinning kick mixed in there and then another series of punches before Hendricks collapsed against the chain link, prompting referee John McCarthy to call a stop to the action. Every technique Thompson threw on the feet was picture-perfect. It's clear now that the sheer diversity of his stand-up attack, his speed and power make him a threat to anyone in the welterweight division, including strike-friendly champion Robbie Lawler. Thompson's most important accomplishment in this fight, however, was warding off Hendricks' only takedown attempt during the first minute. His defensive wrestling appears to have improved greatly since his loss to Matt Brown in April 2012. Perhaps that wrinkle underscores the most significant difference between the new breed of traditional martial artist and the generation we saw undone in MMA during the early 1990s. Not only are Thompson and those of his ilk incredible athletes who have been impeccably trained from the time they could walk but they also understand the need to possess well-rounded skills. Today's martial artists simply have more information than the fighters of two decades ago. They understand that the grappling game is vital for success in mixed combat sports. It's their ability to stay on the feet in the first place that allows them to bring these age-oldand previously discreditedstriking techniques to bear. And if Thompson can stay off his back in future MMA fights, there's a good chance the karate master will leave his opponents with that same confused and painful look on their faces. |

Phetrachapat VS Gaston Bolanos
In every IKF Sanctioned bout or event, it is the responsibility of the IKF to assure that all IKF seated Judges on any IKF Sanctioned bout/event follow the "IKF" Judging Criteria as explained to each fighter, trainer and official. As many here are aware, last week the IKF had a bout on an IKF Sanctioned event (Lion Fight 27) that drew a lot of attention after the final scores were announced. The bout featured Kronphet Phetrachapat of Redondo Beach, California, USA (Via Thailand) with over 170 Pro fights VS Gaston Bolanos of Dublin, California, USA with 7 Pro fights. On the event in question, up until this bout, the judges scoring was in line with the IKF criteria that was explained to everyone in the rules meeting prior to the event. However, things changed in this bout. After 5 rounds, 2 judges scored the bout 48-47 for Phetrachapat and one score it 48-47 for Bolanos. When the winner was announced, right away the decision was in question which prompted an IKF Internal Judges Review of the Judges scoring. This is a process that the IKF has used over the past 20+ years to assure the fair score is decided in a bout where judges scores may be in question. This past week the IKF sent out a private clip of the fight in question to a list of officials that was comprised of IKF Muay Thai Officials and to be fair, some non IKF Muay Thai Officials from around the world. The number of officials who were asked to review the bout was then narrowed down due to some not able to respond or some knew one or both fighters and felt their opinion may be a conflict of interest. When the review started, 21 officials sent in their scores. This was an overwhelming number of requested reviews as the IKF usually sends out such a review request to only 7 IKF Officials. The reason so many Officials were requested to do this internal review was because this was such a high profile bout and the IKF felt it best to have a broader review. The event Promoter on these reviews holds no part in the review process or the decision other than they are made aware of the process. These officials were from all parts of the United States along with Canada, Mexico, Mainland Europe, United Kingdom, Australia and even Asia. Of the 21 Judges who were sent this clip. Here were their results:
Based on the Internal Judges review, it is our responsibility and duty as the regulatory/sanctioning body of this bout to Reverse the official decision of this bout, giving Gaston Bolanos the official win by decision. The IKF would like to Thank all of the Muay Thai Officials involved in determining the appropriate out come. |

Former IKF

Thompson
To Face Johnny Hendricks This
Saturday On
UFC Fight Night!!
Former IKF Amateur World Champion and 2 time IKF World Classic Champion Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson is ready to headline UFC Fight Night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday night against Johnny Hendricks Thompson retired as an amateur Kickboxer in May of 2004 with a record of 37 wins and 0 losses with 18 KO/TKO's. As an Amateur Kickboxer he won 16 Amateur Titles (6 of them with the IKF). They included...
As a Pro Kickboxer Thompson was 20-0 with 10 Knockouts. Johnny Hendricks vs Stephen Thompson was originally supposed to be part of the UFC 196 pay-per-view event, up until injuries to the headliners forced the promotion to downgrade it to a Fight Night show. The welterweight match up has been promoted to the main event slot, and since they've already done filming, this card will still get the UFC Countdown treatment. Among the interesting things shown was Thompson's background and daily life, with him teaching Karate to kids, along with his dad, Ray Thompson, explaining his background competing in 'no rules' competitions decades ago. In one of the sequences, Hendricks also basically lays down his cards, and breaks down Thompson's style and distance. Watch the clip below for the full UFC Countdown show that previews the welterweight showcase.
Another connection to the IKF will be on the Preliminary Card as former IKF Amateur tournament Champion (2004 & 2009) Justin Scoggins takes on Ray Borg. Scoggins (Pro MMA: 10-2) use to train under Thompson's farther Ray as well, but has since moved and trains elsewhere now.

Lion Fight Planning to
Hold
Four Events in England in 2016
By: Mike Sloan, Sherdog.
It's one of the world's greatest sports, yet in America it barely registers a
blip on mainstream sports news outlets' collective radars. It's an odd thing,
really, because fight fans have an insatiable thirst for violence and action but
even though Muay Thai events are typically littered with such, the sport and its
stars are unknown by most. If Lion Fight
CEO Scott Kent has any say in the matter, things will begin to shift in
the favor of "The Art of Eight Limbs" sooner rather than
never.
Kent revealed earlier this week that Lion Fight is ready to take the promotion internationally. Starting in March, Lion Fight will begin hosting events in England, with four to be held at the legendary O2 in London. This announcement comes on the heels of the Las Vegas-based promotion teaming up with Muay Thai Grand Prix, a growing promotion rooted in Britain. The partnership will see Lion Fight and Muay Thai Grand Prix swapping their elite fighters and pitting Lion Fight championships against titlists from MTGP.
"The events that Lion Fight has on AXS TV Fights already have a massive international presence and our upcoming partnership with Muay Thai Grand Prix will just further enhance that," said Kent during his appearance on AXS TV's Inside MMA on Friday night. "It is our aim to share talent between Lion Fight and Muay Thai Grand Prix so that the fans of both promotions are able to see the most elite skilled fighters in the world," he added.
"That plan started right away at Lion Fight 27 with England's Charlie Peters of Hartley, Kent, England (35-14/25, A: 11-2/8) in the main event. However when the smoke cleared, Peters fell short, losing to Fabio Pinca { Pinca Fabio} of Lyon, France (89-22-3/29) by unanimous decision, 49-44 on all 3 judges cards.
Lion Fight is slated to host four events at both Foxwoods Resort Casino and 3 more at Pechanga Resort Casino this year. There are also plans for the promotion to return home to Vegas for two more massive outdoor events as well as a potential show in Milwaukee. All of these events will be broadcast live on AXS TV and unless noted otherwise, will be televised starting at 10 PM ET / 7 PMPT.
