Sumter Showdown
Kickboxing 3... | |
IKF Promoter Mr. Jerome Robinson should feel very good about his third Kickboxing show held this past Saturday night in Sumter, South Carolina at the Palmetto Xplosion Center. It was a very nice event, decent turnout and some impressive fights! Dave Eugene Nelson successfully defended his IKF East Coast Tournament Title against tough and game Holden Nagel of Winston Salem, North Carolina. Nagel was able to land a nice Kick to the head of Nelson that put him to the Canvas early in the fight. But it was Nelson who continued to land overhand rights and some impressive spin kicks throughout the fight. In the end, the judges were split but Nelson came out ahead, 48-47 Nagel, 48-47 Nelson and 48-46 Nelson. It was a close fight as intended in the matching. Also in one of the best fights of the night Aaron "Kill Bill" Shaw of Sumter, South Carolina matched up against Alex Kearschner of Charlotte, North Carolina. This fight showed both men going back and forth but "Kill Bill" Shaw was in control throughout most of the bout. Shaw took the unanimous decision, 30-26, 30-26 and 29-28. Congrats to all fighters as they gave the fans a great show and proved again why Kickboxing is one of the most exciting contact sports in the World! Forward March...

After 5 rounds of action, Benoit Ladouceur (Gatineau, Canada, 21-2, 195/88.6, 6'1", 38) won the vacant IKF Amateur Full Contact Rules Light Heavyweight World Title by unanimous decision, 49-46, 48-47 and 50-45. The 38 year old Ladouceur defeated Switzerland's Sébastien Bozonet, (Geneva, Switzerland, 14-1, 195/88.6, 22) at the Gatineau Convention Center. Bozonet dominated the first two rounds of combat before seeing Ladouceur take over in the last three. Ladouceur's won the vacant title and had already won another organizations North American title in the same category. After the fight, Ladouceur's coach and event promoter, former world champion Jean-Yves Thériault, said he believes his protégé's experience was an asset. "He has a maturity now that he had not the first time he tried to win the championship. He knows how to trap his opponent and that's what he did." said Jean-Yves Thériault. The coach also praised Ladouceur's preparation, saying he was more motivated than ever in the past six months. As for the continuation of things for the new world champion, Thériault says it will be up to the latter to choose. "He could retire to glory or decide to face the greatest champions," he said. "I never pushed him, it will be to decide him." The new world champion, however, preferred to enjoy the moment. However, he admits that it will be difficult to resist the temptation to defend his title. |

Missouri USA is First on the map for the 2017 IKF World Classic! Light Heavyweight International Rules Fighter Ian Zarvos of St Peters, Missouri, USA is the FIRST Fighter to register to compete in the 2017 IKF World Classic. Zarvos got a short but sweet taste of the IKF World Classic at last years 2016 IKF World Classic when he fell in the first round to eventual Champion Tim Lo by TKO at :15 seconds of round 2. However, Zarvos and the IKF are not questioning his ability from that loss. Zarvos had no shame in the loss as it was only his 3rd Kickboxing bout against a much more experienced fighter. Eventual Champion Lo of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, already had a fight record of 18-3 with 8 of his wins by KO/TKO. The two met up in the first round of the 8 fighter bracket. The first time Tournament contender didn't let his first career loss get him down as it only motivated him to come back in 2017 in search of the IKF Gold! Knowing his trainer though may have had a significant part in his decision to not stop there. His trainer is multi time IKF Tournament Champion Kevin "The Hitman" Engel. Engel was also an exceptional MMA Fighter as well finishing his Pro MMA Career with a 5-1 record, only to move on to open his own successful training gym. Engel too lost his first IKF Tournament Title in the 2001 IKF National Amateur Tournament in Olathe, Kansas, USA. Kevin was defeated by Mark Feakes of Akron, Ohio (12-7-1/2) by TKO at 1:05 of round 2. After that first Tournament, like Zarvos, Kevin was hooked and ready to come back for the title he knew should have been his... Engel's first IKF Tournament title was at the 2002 IKF USA Nationals held at the Radisson Quad City Plaza / RiverCenter in Davenport, Iowa, USA (Prior to the Tournament being called the World Classic). His win was in the Full Contact Rule style in the Super Middleweight: division. Engel first defeated Christopher Terry (Phoenix, Arizona, USA, 8-3/5) in the opening round by TKO at 1:34 of round 1. In the Championship bout he defeated Shannon Hudson (Lyman, South Carolina, USA, 9-4/4) by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27 & 30-27. Hudson later went on to become an IKF Pro World Champion years later. Engel followed his 2002 Tournament Title up with another IKF Tournament title at the 2003 IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Championship at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA. Engel again fought in the Full Contact Rule style, which at the time was the largest and most popular rule style in the tournament and in the United States. This time he moved up in weight to the Light Cruiserweight division. In the opening round he defeated Jeremy Hodges (Beloit, Wisconsin, USA) by unanimous decision. In the Championship bout he defeated Bill Jardine (Mondovi, Wisconsin, USA, 11-3/1) also by by unanimous decision. By the time Engel turned Pro, his amateur kickboxing record was 22-3 with 10 wins coming by KO/TKO. Along with having success in Pro Kickboxing, Kevin was also a successful pro boxer where he won his first 13 straight bouts, including the vacant World Boxing Foundation Intercontinental light heavyweight title. He ended his Pro boxing career with a record of 20-14 with 16 wins by KO. One thing we can also add is that even Engel's skill came from yet another great fighter and former IKF Tournament Champion, Jesse "Golden Boy" Finney So Ian Zarvos is the First! The
question now is,

He has fought around the world as well as gone toe- to toe with the very best in the industry! Ntoh is incredibly talented and won six world titles in his career. They included;
