The Galway Black Dragon Kickboxing
club hosted a Junior IKF Kickboxing
tournament in the Oranmore Community centre on Sunday, February 23rd. Over 100
children from clubs all over Ireland attended. The junior event was followed
immediately afterwards with a senior novice tournament and 30 adults were in
action also.
The above picture shows six youngsters from the Galway
Black Dragon club who had their debut fights. Champion fighter Catherine
Cullinan who coachs the Little Dragons class for four to six year
olds was extremely proud of her charges as was chief coach Pete Foley
who commented that the future of Irish Kickboxing was very bright indeed.
Big thanks to all the visiting clubs & coachs who had the interest to
bring their kids to one of the best run Junior Light Contact events ever seen in
Ireland and to the volunteer Referees, judges, timekeepers, set up crews etc.
Also special thanks to big Pa Murphy (Galways top DJ) for the events public
address system.
All the referees and coachs did a fantastic job in controlling the contact
which took place in two boxing rings and an extremely safe matted area. After
the Junior fighters competed 30 adults were matched in a senior novice show
under the rule styles of boxing, kickboxing and K-1. In all they had 15
entertaining contests where novices got a chance to fight others of equal
stature.

IKF TO
ALIGN WITH UNIFIED WORLD TOURNAMENT A
Legit "ALL AMATEUR" World Championship Event in Europe.
Over 30 Worldwide Sanctioning bodies can't be wrong. Unity is the goal of
our sport. With that being said, the International
Kickboxing Federation would like to announce our intention to support
the Unified World Championships to be held
in Italy this coming October, 2014. IKF
Europe has already made plans to organize an IKF
Europe Team selected by the co-directors for IKF
Europe Colin Payne and Carl Sams along with Peter Foley,
IKF Representative of Ireland. Other IKF Regions may also announce the sending of a team
which could include a team from the USA or North America. However this was not
the main reason of the alignment since the IKF
already has an established World Championship Tournament in the USA, the
IKF
World Classic.
"This was more of a decision of economics" Said IKF President Steve Fossum. "It's
getting more and more expensive for European Fighters to come to America and
fight in the IKF World
Classic, so we thought it might be a good idea to send some of our
IKF Fighters from Europe to a legit
Amateur Championship in Europe. We may also decide to send an IKF North American Team as well along with other
winners of the IKF World Classic."
The IKF welcomes the opportunity to
work alongside other like minded organizations for the betterment of the sport
and see this event as an excellent opportunity to work towards some unity which
can only help the most important people in the sport, the athletes themselves.
The management team of IKF Europe will
be announcing soon their plans for selecting teams to attend the event which
will be OPEN to all interested fighters regardless of affiliation. Details to
be circulated very soon.
The IKF's participation in the Unified
World Championships is not intended to take anything away from the
IKF
World Classic. Fighters from around the world are still welcome
to attend as always. It's just that some fighters from Europe are finding it
more and more expensive to pay for travel to come fight in the USA. However
traveling among European countries is far less expensive which is why most
European Tournaments have more fighters participating in them.
"The Unified World Championships (UWC) is
unquestionably the greatest, unique and legendary event in all the history of
Martial Arts and Combat Sports. 2014 will be the second edition of the UWC,
the first edition in 2013 had 6 world federations, but 2014 will see more than
20.
This will be the first time in martial arts that over 30
federations will participate in such an event and combine their forces to create
the most incredible championships that has ever been organized in the world
throughout the history of martial arts and combat sports."
Michele Panfietti President of the Organizing
Committee |
The event will take place at the CarraraFiere Sport Hall which is
over 40,000 square meters in size. Inside you will find Restaurants, Bars,
Meetings Rooms, Bank Services, and every kind of support along with the event
stages and seminars from Master and Coaches of every part of the world. Marina
di Carrara is located in Tuscany Italy which is close to Pisa, Florence,
Genova, Turin, Rome, Bologna and Milan Airports.

Legacy Fighting
Championship 28
- Evan Thompson -
FROM:
www.LegacyFights.net
|
One fighter who has been developing his career as a professional in Legacy
FC is Evan Thompson (3-0). Thompson has of late had some
changes of opponent and event in the scheduling of his next fight, and is now
due to fight on February 21 at LFC 28. "I was due to fight
Larry Crowe, and the San Antonio fight was moved to Arlington; it made sense for
me to fight in front of my friends and students. I'm pleased to fight here. not
only will I be able to have more people come to watch, but it makes the weight
cut easier, it's nice to be able to do that and be staying in my own home."
Evan comes from a martial arts family. His father,
Ray Thompson,
is a long time karate practitioner; and his brother
Stephen Thompson
(8-1) has had success fighting in the UFC. Amazingly,
Stephen was signed early in his MMA career; and had his sixth fight of
his professional career under the UFC banner, where he continues
to compete. "My family comes from a traditional karate background,
Kempo Karate. My dad was teaching that, but it was more like a mixed martial
arts style of karate. I started training at three years old and entered my first
karate tournament at three; I started kickboxing at ten and started fighting
full contact at fifteen years old." Evan himself won the
2005 IKF North American Classic Title (August 19th,
20th & 21st, Orlando, FL) and in 2009 he won the
2009
IKF World Classic Title (July 24th,
25th & 26th, Orlando FL) In 2009 he also won the "Quickest
KO" of the Tournament with a "Jaw Dropping" neck kick KO at
:27 seconds of round 1.
Not only does the Thompson family have a strong karate background,
but Evan's brother-in-law is Carlos Machado, from the famous
Machado Jiu Jitsu family. "When Lindsaymy sistermet
Carlos, then we also had Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the family. Some people find the
transition to MMA difficult, because it's hard for them to step out of the box
and be humbled by a different style. My dad always taught us to adapt and try
different styles, so it wasn't difficult for me. It felt weird at first putting
on a white belt in BJJ. It had been so long since I'd been a white belt [that] I
didn't even remember it; but I go with it, and if I get tapped out, I carry on.
It's all part of learning and improving. I try to keep that mindset, and get in
there and make it work."
Not only does Thompson train under his brother-in-law, but he
teaches at a Machado school. "My business partner and I run a
Machado school in The Colony, TX. I teach the kids classes, kickboxing and MMA
program, and he teaches the adult Brazilian Jiu Jitsu."
Thompson's last fight for Legacy was at LFC 24, when
he faced Evert Gutierrez (0-2) and won by unanimous decision. "I
thought it was a good fight. I was able to work my wrestling. I was disappointed
I didn't get to utilize my kickboxing and karate skills as I can, but I was
happy to get the win. I've been working hard at wrestling and BJJ, and it made
me feel good to use that and be successful."
With changes in both opponent and fight card, Thompson seems unfazed
and has clearly taken such changes in his stride. "As of now I'm facing
Alan Nelson (2-1). Jacob (Brannan, who was due to face Thompson) was the second
person to back out of this fight, so hopefully the fight with Alan will take
place. I don't know too much about him, but both of his professional [wins] have
ended in knockout, pretty quickly in round one, so he has power in his hands.
I'm gifted with a hard head like my dad, so I'm confident that I can take what
he has to give. I'll train hard, and go out there and bring him a good fight."
For Thompson, a training week in preparation for a fight follows a
similar structure week-in, week-out. "Monday to Thursday, I wake at 5
AM. I have breakfast and then I'm in the gym at 6 AM to do strength and
conditioning. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I work with Carlos Machado and John
Machado. In the evening on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, I train with
some of my fighters doing kickboxing and MMA. Saturdays are our sparring day. On
Friday, we rest so that we can be our best for sparring, and Sunday is a day of
rest where I go to Church and have a day off."
As with most fighters, Thompson has clear goals for his MMA career. "I'd
like to follow behind my brother. He's in the UFC, and hopefully I'll get there
as well. That's my goal. I set small goals at a time, and that's my next oneto
get to the UFC. Legacy is a great organization to fight for. It's one of the top
organizations, and a lot of their fighters have already gone [to the UFC], so
it's the perfect place to be to get there. I want to fight the best fighters in
Legacy. People who are going to push me. Legacy has a lot of great fighters. I
was supposed to fight Larry Crowe. He has a lot of skill and is athletic, but
whoever Legacy puts in front of me, I'll fight."
Evan Thompson actually started fighting MMA before his brother Stephen.
"I had my first fight in 2009, and he had his first one in early 2010.
He's had awesome success and was undefeated in kickboxing. He's done really
well, and has helped out Georges St. Pierre, Rashad Evans, and was just up in
New York for a couple of weeks helping Chris Weidman prepare for Anderson Silva."
"First and foremost I'd like to thank Jesus Christ. I'd like to
thank my dad, Ray Thompson, and Carlos and John Machado; Marc Botindari; Todd
Knickman, my strength and conditioning coach; my family and my fiancée
Sarah; as well as my students at the academy for supporting me and coming along
to watch me fight on the night. Also, my sponsors who make it possible for me to
attend training camps and go to South Carolina to train with my dad and brother." |

IKF WORLD CLASSIC INFO...
- CALLERS...
- Before making that call to the IKF,
please see if your questions about this years 2014
IKF World Classic Tournament
can be answered on the Q & A Page located HERE!
- If your question(s) are not answered there, PLEASE make e-mail your second
priority of contact at:
main@ikfkickboxing.com
- If you feel a phone call is absolutely necessary, please make use of our
staff by asking us any questions you may have.
- PKB: For IKF Semi Contact Point Kickboxing questions
please contact IKF/PKB
President Johnny Davis directly at
johnnyd@akpromotions.org
or by phone at (843) 773-1005.
- MATCHMAKING
- BEGINNING JUNE 2nd: We will start placing notes at the top of
certain divisions to try and make sure everyone has a match at the Classic.
If not yet, you may see a note by your name asking you to move to another
weightclass or rule style to create your tournament Bracket.
The goal is to
have a "Minimum" of 4 fighters in EVERY Fighter
Bracket.
This may not be possible in some cases where there just isn't anyone else
to match you up with.
In these extreme cases, we may have a Division with
less than 4 fighters.
- As noted above, when you answer these requests, PLEASE
do so by e-mail at
main@ikfkickboxing.com - This saves us time and
allows us and you to have a record of the changes agreed on.
- WHY A MINIMUM OF 4 FIGHTERS IN A DIVISION?
- ONLY Divisions with 4 or more fighters will be BELT DIVISIONS!
- However, if we cannot strengthen the division by combining divisions around
yours, and all that is possible is a 2 or 3 fighter division, we will keep such
a division as a BELT division.
- REMEMBER: This is a "TOURNAMENT" which means we
desire ALL Fighters to fight a minimum of 2 Times to win their "Tournament"
Title.
- DIVISION/BRACKET CHANGE REQUESTS
- Every year we have new fighters or trainers that are not aware of the
reasons behind our requirements to switch a fighters fighting division after
already being registered. The reason is simple. In the past, some fighters saw
too much competition in their bracket division, so they asked to be moved where
they may have less or easier fights to win their title. Because of this, we have
created the following rule for Bracket change requests
- You can only move to another bracket that has the same number or more
fighters in it.
- The bracket you move to must have equal or tougher competition (Reference
to fight records).
- Your reasons for change must be approved by the IKF.
You can't just change because you want to, there needs to be a justified
reason.
- IF your request is approved, you will be placed at the BOTTOM of the
bracket that you move to regardless of WHEN you registered.
- RULES
- For all Tournament Rules click HERE!
- PHOTOS
- If you are a
Registered Fighter
for the IKF World
Classic and have the words "NEED
PHOTO" listed after your name in the registered Fighters
Brackets, you have until FRIDAY, JUNE 27th, 2014, 12
NOON to get your photo to us to avoid paying a $35 Photo Fee at Registrations "EVEN IF
YOU BRING YOUR OWN PHOTO TO REGISTRATIONS."
- Keep in mind this fee is a "Deterrent" so that
all photos are in and we do not have long lines with People needing photos taken
and passes made. If you still have the words NEED
PHOTO by your name you can either express mail your 2" x 2"
headshot photo to us or e-mail one to us in a jpg file.
- WHY
- ALL Photos are placed on your Tournament ID PASS. Without it, you
will have to pay a spectator ticket fee to enter the Tournament. The photo is to
prevent someone else using your ID Pass if you should lose it or have it stolen.

- FAXES & CREDIT CARDS
- FAXING IN REGISTRATION FORMS
- If you plan to pay your registration fees by Credit Card, you can send it
to us one of 2 ways:
- BEST WAY: Fill out all your forms, with your credit card info on
the form, scan and e-mail to us at
main@ikfkickboxing.com
- Fax in your registration paperwork with your credit card info on the form
to 916.663.4510.
- Just e-mailing or faxing in your Registration Form DOES
NOT REGISTER YOU!
You need to include your credit card number
and still get us your photo.
- If we do not have your photo (either by regular mail or e-mail) by
FRIDAY, JUNE 12th, 2014, 12 NOON you will
have an additional Photo Fee of $35 at Registrations, whether you bring
us a photo or not at Registrations.
- FAXED PHOTOS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED - THEY COME OUT OF THE FAX
MACHINE AS A BLACK SQUARE.
- PLEASE DO NOT SEND US YOUR PHOTO AFTER FRIDAY,
JUNE 12th, 2014, 12 NOON.
- CREDIT CARD CHARGES
- All Credit Card charges have been charged through our Graphics Department (since
this is where we have our charge Card Account) and will appear as Foster
Graphics on your statement.
- DO NOT DENY this charge, or you will have an
additional fee of $100 for your registration.
- REAL TRAINERS ONLY PLEASE...
- Several registered trainers or trainers who try to register on registration
day may be a little embarrassed when they discover they
will not be granted an official Trainers pass for the entire weekend.
- We have already informed several who have attempted to register family and
friends as cornermen or cornerwomen to get a cheaper ticket to watch the event.
Ladies and Gentlemen, this just isn't right...
- To assure we will be able to afford future IKF
Tournaments, PLEASE do not register your friends and or family as
trainers and cornermen/women. PLEASE be honorable and inform us that
they are not trained cornermen or women and if you have already registered them,
or are one of these individuals we are talking about, ask us to put your paid
fee towards your event pass.
- You know who you are, whether we have already spoken to you or not. PLEASE
do not come and try to register as a trainer or cornerman/women or pick up your
pass when you know you will either be questioned or denied. We have done
our best to provide a low fee for the
TRUE and REAL trainers and cornermen/women of this tournament.
Please allow us to have a positive experience. Please be honest and honorable.
"What we do in life echoes in eternity."

souvenir for every fighter and their families, but it's also a "Matchmakers

Every year, matchmakers and scouts from promotions around the
globe attend the IKF

allow is to, we would love to tell you who has been hidden in the crowd in the
past and who plans to be there this year. However, they have always respectfully
asked us to keep quiet about who they are and who they represent. What we can
say is that this year there will be some big names there representing both
Kickboxing/Muay Thai and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts).
The program is a full 8&1/2 X 11 inches in size. Ads very
from a business card size ad starting at $50 up to a full page, full color for

IT'S ALL
ABOUT THE BELT BABY!!!
As many here know, the IKF
Tournament has ALWAYS Provided The VERY BEST BELT AWARDS Of ANY
Amateur Kickboxing or Muay Thai Tournament in the World!
However, it doesn't stop at the Belts! Every Year the IKF makes sure that EVERY FIGHTER walks away
with special gifts that value far more than the entree fee they pay to register
into the tournament. Keep in mind we are talking about an entree fee that has
stayed the same since 2002 of only $55.00! To add, when you become an IKF World Classic Champion, you better have help at ringside
to carry out more than just your IKF World
Classic Title Belt! Every year the IKF
awards additional gifts to all the Champions. Over the years, these additional "Champion Awards" have included items
such as Champion Hats, Champion Sweatshirts, Champion Jackets, Special Trophy
Awards, Autograph Gloves, Champion Certificates, just to name a few. This year
will be no different as the IKF already
has a LOAD of Awards scheduled to give out to the 2014 IKF
World Classic Champions!
Below you can see some of the belts of past IKF World Classic Tournaments. This years Belts will
be revelled in May, and we can assure you, if your looking for something DIFFERENT
than in past years, THIS WILL BE THE YEAR! We can't give any hints just
yet, but we assure you, this years IKF
World Classic Belt will be the most Dynamic Belt EVER! Lets hope
your wearing one around your waste come Championship Sunday!
See you in Orlando!
"The saying in football is that on any given Sunday
any team can win. The champions of our sport will have no easy time at the IKF
Championships as the best of the best come to meet the challenge. Fighters rise
to the task when faced with great talent and our returning champions surely
provide that. Don't hand out the belts quite yet as new talent will certainly
emerge and increase the field of fighters to watch. I am positive there will be
great fights for all the belts and we will enjoy the best tournament in America.
Looking forward to seeing all of you."

SPECIAL GUEST Don "THE DRAGON" Wilson
"The
DRAGON" Will Be In the House At The IKF World Classic!
|
In case you haven't heard yet, Don "The Dragon"
Wilson will step back in the ring again this coming September on an IKF
Sanctioned event in Turkey. However prior to that we will all get a chance to
see him again as the Special Guest at this years IKF World Classic.
Wilson's Professional Kickboxing Record stands at 71
wins, 5 loses and 2 draws with 47 wins coming by the Knockout. He has been
regarded as one of the greatest kickboxer of all time. This year, as every year,
up and coming Amateur Muay Thai Fighters and Kickboxers will get a chance to rub
shoulders with him all weekend long because "The DRAGON"
will be "In The House" at this years
2014 IKF
World Classic Amateur Championship Tournament! in Orlando,
Florida, USA.
During his career Don won a total of 11 World Titles
with several Sanctioning bodies that included the IKF, WKA, KICK, ISKA, STAR
and the PKO. Never backing down from a challenge, Don has fought
champions all around the world, in Hong Kong, Japan, Italy, Canada, Germany,
Great Britain, Thailand, Las Vegas and countless other locations.
In 1999 at 45 years of age, (Left) Don stepped
back into the ring to fight for the vacant IKF
Pro, FCR Cruiserweight World Title on
May
15th, 1999 in Lowell, Massachusetts, USA against Dick Kimber
for what is still this day, the highest kickboxing purse EVER paid,
$150,000.00 and some additional training expenses. Kimber swore to
everyone that he'd have the fight over before the fifth round. However when the
Dragon unloaded on Kimber in round three, Kimber dropped
to the mat and referee Dan Stell counted him out on the floor, a count
that went into the round break. Kimber never stood during the count and
to this date, Kimber never fought again. It had been over eight years
since Don last entered the ring, but his trademark sidekick was stronger
than ever. Wilson picked up the IKF
Cruiserweight World Title for his efforts and Kimber kept his promise
when this one was over in round 3. In 2001, having never been challenged for his
title, Wilson Voluntarily Retired it to move down to the Light
Heavyweight Division.
Over his career Wilson fought and defeated many Great
fighters such as James Warring, Demetrius Edwards, Maurice Smith, Dennis
Downey, Dennis Alexio, Branimir Cikatic, Mike Winkeljohn, Herb Thompson, Greg
Smith, Muhammed Ashraf Tai, Panya Sornnoi, Pongdienoi Prasobchai, Rob Salazar,
and a very controversial Draw against
Jean-Yves Theriault which many thought Wilson clearly won.
After his first retirement from the ring, Wilson went
on to yet another level of stardom as an action movie star. Movies to his credit
include: The Last Sentinel (2007), Soft Target (2006), Sci-Fighter (2004),
Stealing Harvard (2002), Redemption (2002), Moving Target (2000), The
Capitol Conspiracy (1999), Whatever It Takes (1999), Inferno aka Operation
Cobra (1998), Hollywood Safari (1997), Papertrail (1997), Night Hunter
(1996), Virtual Combat (1996), Bloodfist VIII: Trained to Kill (1996),
Cyber-Tracker 2 (1995), Bloodfist VII: Manhunt (1995), Batman Forever (1995),
Ring of Fire 3: Lion Strike (1995), Bloodfist VI: Ground Zero (1995), Terminal
Rush (1995), CyberTracker (1994), Red Sun Rising (1994), Bloodfist V: Human
Target (1994), Out for Blood (1993), Ring of Fire II: Blood and Steel (1993),
Bloodfist IV: Die Trying (1992), Blackbelt (1992), Bloodfist III: Forced to
Fight (1992), Ring of Fire (1991), Future Kick (1991), Bloodfist II (1990),
Bloodfist (1989) and
Say Anything... (1989).
During this time Don married well known Film and
Television Makeup artist Kathleen Karridene in 1996. They have three
children together; Jonathan, Drayden, and Aubrianna. Over the
course of his career Don won 11 world titles in 3 different weight
