Durrant receives 45 day medical suspension until 5th September
- Jon Durrant receives 45 day medical suspension
until 5th September.
The excellent Chris James
continued his march towards world recognition with an 8 round stoppage over
world class Jon Durrant in a voluntary defence of his IKF British Title.
James has had a patchy record but in the last 2 years has stepped up a
level, producing some fantastic results.
Tonight was a clinical display that started with both vastly experienced
men feeling each other out and stepping up the pace accordingly. This was a
classic Full Contact contest that had everything. Great combinations,
spectacular kicking and a clash between 2 very dangerous and even fighters. It
was evident by the 6th round that James was starting to hurt Durrant
to the body, something he has been particularly good at of late.
Durrant took a count and from then on seemed to cringe in pain with
every shot. In the 8th round james found the target with almost every shot until
Durrant finally sand to the canvas, unable to make the count.
A successful defence and now Chris James must surely go on to a
European title. It is worth remembering that current IKF
World Champion James Wallis holds a win and a draw over Chris James
and a rubber match for the world title is a strong possibility for next year

Professional FCR
Southern Area Light Heavyweight Title
Craig Liddell (Bristol, England, 6-2, 79.8kg, 6'3",
02-15-79, Ross Chick 07967319907)
VS
Jon Smith (Chard, England, 11-2-2, 81.3kg, 5'11", 03-07-84 ,
Self 07598 316550)
WINNER: Jon Smith by RSC 1:28 Round 1
- Craig Liddell receives a 30 day medical
suspension until 19th August.
John Smith made
short work of Craig Liddell in their IKF
Southern Area Contest. This was expected to be a close affair with both men able
to deliver heavy shots but both open to big shots as well. This is how it turned
out with Smith connecting early in the first. Liddell wobbled
and Smith stuttered, almost not believing he had connected. But once it
registered Smith was relentless and Liddell had no chance to get
himself back into the fight. New Champion Jon Smith.

Amateur Women's FCR
Southern Area Light Welterweight Title Clara
Norman (Bournemouth, England, 4-0-1 Boxing 0-2-2, 63.1kg, 5'9",
11-18-70, Carl Sams 01202294223)
VS
Zoe Hackwood (Weston, England, 3-2, 62.4kg, 5'5", 10-31-88,
Stuart Davies 07969933558)
WINNER: Clara Norman by unanimous decision
50-46, 48-47, 50-46
Clara Norman has been fighting
for 10 years but always struggled to find opponents due to her weight (70kg).
However, a change in training took her down to 63kg and she has been extremely
busy over the last 18 months, culminating in this IKF
Light Welterweight Southern Area Title challenge against Weston's Zoe
Hackwood.
The contest was a volatile affair with both girls trading from the opening
bell.
Norman quickly established herself as the stronger fighter, matching
Hackwood shot for shot and backing her up for most of the first round.
But the Weston girl had come for the belt and never stopped coming back.
The second was a stronger round for Hackwood and you had to at
least give her a share of it as Norman settled at a longer range, giving
Hackwood room to move.
In the third Norman was under instruction to close the range down
again and keep the pressure on the whole time. She obliged and at one point a
desperate Hackwood looked to bite Norman on the blind side of
the referee. We really were down in the trenches now.
Norman stepped up a gear in the 4th and dominated again with sharp
punches and kicks on the end of them. Hackwood fought back but had no
real answer.
Coming out for the final round Hackwood needed the stoppage and
Norman knew it. Still she stood toe to toe looking for her own stoppage,
there was no resting on her laurels. It was a fantastic contest and a worthy
unanimous decision, and the title belt went to Clara Norman.
Congratulations to Zoe Hackwood for her effort and the part she
played in making this a cracking title fight!

66.1kg, 5'10", 07-04-87, Ash Gettings 00447796671616)
VS
Fred Russias (Challenger -Bournemouth, England, 4-1-1, 64.8kg. 5'11",
TBC, Sert 07878620501)
Result: Majority Draw 46-48, 47-47, 47-47
This was the only IKF
sanctioned contest on a busy fight card at the Phoenix Academy but it turned out
to be worth the admission fee on it's own.
Tom Ward started fast
with combination punches and low kicks, but Fred Russias looked very
dangerous with what has become his trademark high roundhouse kick.
Ward had it covered with a very tight defence and began working his knee
strikes. Towards the end of the round he delivered a sweet knee strike to Russias
ribs and he was down. It didn't look as though he would make the count but he
did and held on to see the round out.
Round two saw Russias step up a gear to get back into the fight,
but Ward went with him. Even so the Bournemouth fighter was determined
to even things up and he powered the high kick in. Although Ward blocked
he was starting to feel the shots. His own knees were still doing damage but
Russias did enough to take the round on all cards.
The 3rd was a pivotal round. Even exchanges, both men rocked but Russias
looked to be getting stronger. Ward was no slough and his low kicks
looked good with his hands and knees. He was busy and effective but it was close
with the judges split.
Russias knew that the knockdown had been crucial and he stepped up
another gear in the 4th and 5th to try and catch up.
Ward was feeling the pace more but only a professional would spot it as
he countered every shot with more of his own.
The final two rounds were clearly Russias but the early and middle
rounds had been close and there was a knockdown to bring into the equation.
The judges cards were totalled coming out as a Majority Draw.
Not an ideal scenario in a title contest but it is worth noting that not a
single round was marked even:
Judge A: 10-8, 9-10, 9-10, 9-10, 9-10 = 46-48
in favour of Russias.
Judge B: 10-8, 9-10, 10-9, 9-10, 9-10 = 47-47.
Judge
C: 10-8, 9-10, 10-9, 9-10, 9-10 = 47-47.
The third round was crucial and of
course the first round knockdown. A promotion is now being sought to put this
one on again. Congratulations to both fighters!

- WINTENSITY
- If you have not heard
about Wintensity by now, you
better start doing your homework.
And if you don't finish your homework,
make sure you attend the FREE Short course, mini seminar that will be held at
this years
IKF World Classic
after the Welcome Meeting This course has been sponsored by the IKF and International
Fight Sports and is free to everyone who pre-registers, so there is
no reason you should miss it.
- The seminar training provided by Wintensity
is designed to help martial artists gain a greater understanding of necessary
mental preparation for any physical conflict, including competitive fighting.
- Wintensity was created by
former IKF World
Classic Tournament Champion Eric Parker. Eric began training
in the martial arts at age six, and is now 41 years old. With 35 years of
continuous martial arts training, he still trains and teaches Muay Thai every
day and trains in JiuJitsu several days every week. He retired this year from
competitive Muay Thai kickboxing with an official record of 12-0 (7 wins by
KO). Eric was the first fighter to win "4" straight IKF World Classic Tournament
bouts by TKO/KO on his way to winning the 2009 IKF World Classic
Muay Thai Lightweight Amateur Title. He won his Championship bout at
48 seconds of round 1 with a Spinning Hook Kick after he defeated all 3 of his
previous opponents by TKO in what was the largest fighter bracket of the
tournament. Now retired, he is also a former ISKA United States
Light-Welterweight Amateur Champion, and ISKA Florida State
Light-Welterweight Amateur Champion.
- After serving in the Marine Corps, Eric entered the field of Law
Enforcement where he first worked as a communications officer for three years,
and then served for ten years as a street patrol officer, a K9 officer, and a
special operations police officer. During his time in Law Enforcement, Eric was
a SWAT Team Member for eight years, and a SWAT Team Section Leader/SWAT
Instructor for six years. Eric was also assigned for five years as a patrol K9
Handler. In May of 1999, Eric was wounded during a shoot-out while serving as a
SWAT Team member and executing a high-risk narcotics search warrant. These
events, along with specific education in the anatomy and physiology of the human
brain and the impact of critical stress upon physical performance, have laid the
foundation for his passion for training in this environment. Eric has a B.S. in
Psychology with a continuing education focus on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
and cognitive processes.

IKF WORLD

TO...
"BRING IT ON"
Something
To Think On...
Lets Not
Forget The Experience... The MOMENTS...
From IKF President
Steve Fossum
The
photo at the right is from 1999 of nearly all the IKF
Tournament Champions of the FIRST KICKBOXING &
MUAY THAI Tournament EVER in the United States, the 1999
IKF/RINGSIDE USA
Nationals..
Unlike most years, nearly all of them stayed until the very end
to watch all the fights, meet many new people and simply absorb the moment. Some
were even unsure if there was going to ever be another tournament like it...
Well, 13 more followed, and this weekend, many of you reading
this will be in the same place many of them were. Some won the Tournament title
while some fell short. Some were Champion trainers while others told their
fighters, "Hold your head high, you will fight another day."
Some went on to become great Pro Champions, Trainers, Gym Owners and Officials,
while others went on to excel on other professions. Still... They all had
something in comment...
"They
ALL shared this moment.".
Some of those pictured above included...
Duane Ludwig, Angela Rivera (Parr), Dan
Rawlings, Charles Baron, Derrick Yuen, Mick Doyle, Jim VanOver, Mark and John
Greubel, Marshall Hamel, Heath Fonnest, Brooks Mason, Rob Wiley, Robert Rene
Jr., Duke Roufus, Peyton Russell, David Pareja, Harvey Grasse, Brian Fowler,
Brad Fowler, Paul Pearman, Robert Carlton, Elliott Cooper, Greg Davis, Rob
Zbilski, Aaron Lassi, Jennifer Thyssen, Gene Fields, Jason Johnson, Kongnapa,
Mike Carlson, Sven Bean, Tim Mazurkiewicz, Jeff Mullen, Zachary Day, Craig
Monyelle, Jean Baptiste, Clarence Thatch.
"They ALL shared this moment.".
We
hope you look forward to your moments this weekend...
More To
Think On...
From IKF President Steve Fossum
A Roman philosopher in the mid-1st century AD named
Seneca once wrote,
"Expecting is
the greatest impediment to living. In anticipation of tomorrow, it loses today."
Dear 2013 IKF World Classic Fighters, Trainers and Officials.
This coming weekend we will all gather in Orlando Florida to share and
witness yet another opportunity to see everyone perform at the top of their
game. None of us know what the future holds for us from who will be the proudest
parent or trainer of them all, the most accurate official or who will return
home as Champions. Regardless of our anticipations, I'd like to ask a favor of
all of you...
Stop thinking about
what the weekend will bring you
Instead, "Remember your Journey
that brings you here."
So often, we focus so much on the end product that we miss
everything happening in front of us. The MANY Great things unfolding every
moment of our day. Back in 2002, my wife Toni was given some great advice by a
good friend for our wedding. She was told
"During the
middle of everything at the reception, stop for a moment and look around and see
everyone and take it all in, cause you will only have this one moment to do so."
As any married couple can tell you, a lot takes place on your
wedding day, and so often, we forget so many little things. I wish I were given
that advice my wife was given, as it would have been very helpful. She recalls
many little things years later while to me; it all seemed to just happen so fast
I wish we could do it all again, knowing what I know now.
On the 3-day drive out here, in the past, I've always focused
on the destination, and not the drive. This year, I took that advice my wife was
given years ago. In doing so this year, it was no surprise that I had many
moments where I just stopped and absorbed what was happening around me. Needless
to say, in a 3,000 mile drive across our great nation, despite it being a speedy
trip, there were so many things I missed on the very same trip I'd done before.
Special thanks to Dan for documenting so many moments. Although trivial as he
was doing it, these moments were so great to look back at
His actions
taught me that I need to take more pictures in my life. But not of Food Dan
:)
All this being said, I ask ALL of you whether driving or flying
here, to take a moment during your travels and "Absorb the moment" of
your lives that are all part of this great journey you will set out on for this
coming weekend. It is much more than what happens at the end. Far more than any
belt or trophy can give you.
This weekend you need to take note of those who helped you to
take this journey. From your loving family and friends, sponsors, and ESPECIALLY
your trainers who have taken their time out of their busy schedules to help you
in your quest to be the best. The experience, as Brooks always says is "Life
Changing." And it truly is. After this weekend, you will all have
become something different, something greater than you were before the weekend
started. Take the time to say hello to your peers in our great sport. Meet new
people, give thanks and appreciation with "Thank You" and "Please'
as often as you can. Remember, people may not remember so much of what you did,
but will surly remember how you made them feel.
When it comes time for you fighters to perform in the ring,
take heart and absorb the words put together by a rap artist in a song that to
some, are just words, but to me and you, they need to be fully absorbed, or you
may not leave the ring as a Champion. Those words are:
"Look, if you
had one shot, or one opportunity, to seize everything you ever wanted in one
moment, would you capture it or just let it slip?"
Think about it everyone
As I started in this post,
life is all about the "Moments". The question for everyone
reading this is
"Would you capture it
or just let it slip?"
Good luck everyone.. Make sure to Walk YOUR Path
this weekend... and we will see you in Orlando
THURSDAY,
JULY 11th, 2013, AT 11:00 PM/
PST
OFFICE CLOSED
Dear
Fight Fans,
Due to our 2013
IKF World Classic Amateur Kickboxing & Muay
Thai Championships in Orlando Florida The International Fight
Sports offices will be closed from Friday, July 12th until Monday Afternoon,
July 15th when we will have our offices set up in Orlando Florida for the
Tournament. Any e-mails will be returned after Monday, July 15th.
In a few hours, IKF
President Steve Fossum
and IKF Co Founder Dan Stell will be leaving IKF Headquarters in Newcastle, California for the
3,000 mile journey to Orlando. The two will drive to Omaha Nebraska where they
will stop for a break and meet with IKF
World Ambassador Brooks
Mason.
Last year Brooks made the second half
of the trip with them, however this year, unless Steve and Dan can talk him out
of it, he will be flying to the event. After their stop in Omaha, they will get
back on the road and hope to arrive in Orlando sometime late Sunday night, early
Monday morning...Unless they get sidetracked with some fight action along
the way.
So WHY do they DRIVE to this event every year?
Well, in 2000, the second year of the event, the shipping company (UPS) who was
also their shipping sponsor, lost all the tournament title belts. It was at that
time when Fossum made the promise, "No fighter will ever again
go home without his or her belt, and I will personally make sure all the Title
Belts get to the event." He's kept his promise. Starting in 2001, he
has driven to every
IKF
Tournament ever held. In fact this year, he will do all the
driving himself unless they kidnap Brooks in Omaha.

LEGAL HEADGEAR
Allowed
At The IKF World Classic
Legal HEADGEAR (Which is Mandatory for
EVERY Fighter) MUST Be
"COMPETITION
HEADGEAR" and NOT, "SPARRING
or TRAINING"
If it doesn't say "COMPETITION" on the
headgear, try calling your headgear manufacturer and ask for a "PRINT
OUT" of the headgear description.
Competition headgear will say, "Competition
Headgear" such as this one, click
HERE.
We found a pretty good page on The internet
that talks about Headgears and rates them.
It also names them as "Competition"
or "Training/Sparring" Headgear.
We feel it will be
helpful for Everyone.
Just Click
HERE.
LEGAL HEADGEAR
FOR COMPETITION
It is illegal for an IKF
Amateur fighter to use any "Training" style headgear. This
has always been described as headgear with a jaw bar across the front of the
jaw. However, there are other headgears that are NOT allowed in
IKF Amateur competition.
Headgear that are sold with the word "Training"
or "Sparring" in there title are not legal "Competition"
headgear for IKF Amateur Kickboxing.
(Just like they are not allowed in USA Amateur Boxing) The issue
with "TRAINING" or "SPARRING" Headgears is
that they usually have the large ear padding or the jaw bars. When you look
at the LEGAL Competition Headgear you will notice there is no Jaw Bar and the
Ears are far less padded.
Training Headgear
range between 16 - 18 ounces depending on the size. Official IKF
Competition Headgear should range from 10 to 12
ounces in weight with or without cheek protectors To Accommodate
Small Through XL Sizes.

HERE ARE SOME PHOTOS OF BOTH STYLES.

The Below Is On Every IKF World

"Walk The Walk"
I could have sat in the crowd & "Talked
the Talk".
Heckled or cheered but instead I fought.
I could have been a critic and TALKED of
what I "COULD" have done.
But I Made My Dream a Reality today, and Regrets, I have None.
Those Who Talk of others, instead of DO,
for themselves are critics with no respect.
With a title of critic, what else would you expect?
Instead, I entered the ring of battle,
to put my skills to the test of War.
With my hands, my feet and my HEART, I will make the crowd ROAR!
I may win or lose, but this is not the
only test.
For I have "Walked the Walk" and that alone Is My BEST!
For I'm a Champion, for DOING what I
said I would DO!
And if you're a critic of my skills, my response is "Where Were YOU?"
I was the Warrior Fighting, as a

I've Achieved My Victory just by being here, and I

TRAINERS
&
CORNERMEN
There were several issues last year within the trainer/fighter
and officials areas that has brought about some changes and requirements for
this years IKF World
Classic. The officials confirming all the trainers this year are
going to be VERY strict with who comes into the warm-up areas and ESPECIALLY
the fight pit. During the event, please be prepared to take a "Written
Tournament Cornerman License" Test to assure us that you are truly
a "TRAINER" and not just a Friend, Girlfriend, Boyfriend,
Parent etc. who wants to be allowed into the Fighter area.
If an individual who takes the test fails, they will lose their
cornerman pass and be required to purchase an event ticket, with NO CREDIT from
your pass going towards the event ticket. So, here is your last chance to
Transfer the fee' you paid for your cornerman's pass for credit towards an event
ticket. (For Ticket Prices Click
HERE.)
If you wish to do this, you need to e-mail the IKF prior to Wednesday, July 10th at 5:PM and simply
put in your e-mail: main@ikfkickboxing.com
My name is John Doe. please transfer the fees paid for a
cornermans pass towards the cost of my ticket I will purchase for the event.
Thank you.
IT'S OFFICIAL...
RECORDS HAVE BEEN BROKEN!
Well for those wondering, it's official.
This years IKF World Classic is
the Largest Ever in terms of registered fighters.
The previous record was
2010 the
record was 320.
This year that record was broken with a registered
fighters total of
358.
The majority of the tournaments around the world would like
everyone to believe that the big win is in the number of registered fighters.
However, the REAL WIN is the number of fighters who "Show-Up"
to actually compete. Some hide these numbers by only posting the Champion and
second place. Since the first IKF
Tournament, we have always posted EVERY CONTENDER on our results pages. With
this in mind, of the 358 who have registered for this years IKF World Classic, 332
are still on schedule to "Show-Up' and actually "Walk the
Walk!"
To give you a perspective of drops, in that record breaking
year of 2010, of the 320 who registered, 268 were how many fighters that showed
up to "Walk the Walk!" Here is a breakdown of the past 14
years with total number of registered fighters listed first. Those who showed up
second and the number of dropped as a percentage number.
- 1999: 91 / 72 - 80% Showed Up To "Walk the Walk":
Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA.
- 2000: 145 / 116 - 80%: Council Bluffs, Iowa, USA.
- 2001: 266 / 207 - 77%: Olathe, Kansas, USA.
- 2002: 244 / 200 - 82%: Davenport, Iowa, USA.
- 2003: 242 / 220 - 90%: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA.
- 2004: 257 / 220 - 86%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2005: 270 / 240 - 89%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2006: 217 / 190 - 88%: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA.
- 2007: 201 / 194 - 97%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2008: 262 / 229 - 87%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2009: 280 / 237 - 85%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2010: 320 / 268 - 84%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2011: 282 / 226 - 80%: Orlando, Florida, USA.
- 2012: 298 / 228 - 77%: Orlando, Florida, USA: Second highest
number of registered fighters prior to this year.
- AVERAGE PERCENT Of Registered Fighters
That show-up to the IKF
Tournament: 84%
As you can see, it's not always about the number of registered
fighters. It's about "HOW MANY" actually show up. Last year
the IKF World Classic
numbers dropped below 80% because we had so many switch to semi contact point
kickboxing. these fighters are not included in the "Show Up"
numbers. If so, last years numbers and other years since we started doing the
Semi Contact Point kickboxing event, would average between 9 to 14% higher.
The bottom line here is, "Fighters SHOW-UP" to the IKF World Classic! A
Tournament as one trainer put it, "Just showing up and being placed in the
results is a big plus an a fighters resume. And to win it... Even more. Keep in
mind this. The IKF
World Classic is not the only think the IKF
does year around. To add, the IKF is not
just a "Regional" sanctioning body. The IKF is World Wide, and being so draws a lot more
credibility and recognition to the IKF World Classic and it's Champions. There
are plenty of places fighters can win titles today.
However, when you win an IKF title, or an IKF World Classic Title,
You will be remembered as a Champion
Forever!

REMINDER...
CHECK YOUR STATS!
CORRECT ALL FALSE OR MISSING INFO
It is MANDATORY for
everyone who is registered to fight in the IKF World Classic Tournament to assure ALL
your listed stats and information is correct.
If any of it is found to be
incorrect you risk being dropped from the tournament.
THIS INCLUDES
the correct spelling of your name, city, state you are from, trainers name,
fight record, HEIGHT, age, date of birth.
So at this time we urge
ALL Registered Fighters to check out their listing.
If something is missing
such as your record or height, we need you to e-mail it to us ASAP!
BAD PRINTING?
It
is VERY Possible we could not read your writing on your registration
forms.
We happen to know we have A LOT of cities, trainer names, etc.
misspelled or listed incorrect because we simply could not read your writing.
This has been especially true for the faxed registrations.
- We urge EVERYONE to look at their Fighter Registration info.
If you are missing info or we later discover you have not given us your TRUE
info (Such as your fight record, height or more so...) you will be
dropped from the tournament. This includes your fight record in other
fighting styles such as Boxing and or Mixed Martial Arts. We need you to inform
us of this info NOW, NOT LATER via e-mail
at
main@ikfkickboxing.com
- Thank You.

KICKBOXING &
MUAY THAI
OFFICIALS...
Amateur
Athletes Of This Years
IKF World Classic
NEED YOU!
With the 2013
IKF World Classic Tournament coming
soon, we wanted to ask if there are any qualified Kickboxing and or Muay Thai
Officials that would be willing to help the Amateur Athletes accomplish their
dreams at this years 2012
IKF World Classic Tournament. We are not
into the "Politics" of the sport so don't think we are only
looking for "IKF"
Officials. We are looking for Kickboxing and or Muay Thai officials from any and
all organizations or state boxing-athletic commissions. We would be proud to
have you share your skill and talent as ring officials with the hundreds of
athletes, trainers and other officials this year. To see who is currently on our
list go to www.ikfkickboxing.com/WCOfficials.htm
There are more names to be added on this page before the event and we would be
proud as well as grateful if your name can be added too.
We know there are a lot more Muay Thai &
Kickboxing Officials around the world and we need them to help out if they can.
Again, they do not have to be IKF
Registered Officials. We welcome ANY and ALL Qualified
Kickboxing and Muay Thai Officials to the Tournament.
We are always in need of Judges, Referees, and
Timekeepers. We are also looking for those who want to be a part of our
Tournament Staff to help with other aspects of the Tournament. If you can help
out we here at the IKF are not the only ones who would be Grateful for your
assistance. The fighters and other already confirmed Tournament Officials would
greatly appreciate it too!
We will have a special private dinner for all
officials on Saturday night, but we need to have a head count for the hotel
within a few weeks, so if you can be a part of this years 2012
IKF World Classic Officials Team, please
e-mail ( main@ikfkickboxing.com
) us your name and what kind of official you are qualified as. We will also give
you meal vouchers for all your meals on Saturday and Sunday that can be used at
the restaurants in the hotel.
This way, if you want to have dinner with your friends, you can go on your own
without having to wait for anyone else.
If you are an experienced and qualified
Kickboxing or Muay Thai official that can help out at this years
2013
IKF World Classic Tournament,
we would love to book you now. We will provide your IKF
Officials Polo Shirt at no charge and your help pays for your IKF Officials license for the next year. We request
you wear black pants if a referee, judges and timekeepers may dress as desired,
but clean and neat please. To volunteer for an officials position please e-mail
us at
main@ikfkickboxing.com
and in the subject line, make sure it says, IKF
WC Official.
Thanking you in
advance for your help!!!
See You in
Orlando!
